I had a great experience here. I came for a second opinion regarding a large splenic mass on my 9 year old dog. The initial vet I went to told me my best option was to put her down, ideally within a week. This was without further scans or ultrasounds to see if it has even spread (don't even know if it is cancer at this point) it was just assumed. Also the initial vet told me that she was too old for surgery and wouldn't respond well. I took her in at noon to south suburban for the second opinion visit, they provided additional ultrasounds and determined she is a good candidate for the surgery. The surgery was scheduled for later that day. The service was amazing, so prompt, so caring, they saved my dogs life. I highly recommend this facility and they have my loyalty now. Read Less

I took my 2 cats to this veterinarian twice. The place itself is clean & the people are very nice. The first time I went was this past winter. I took my 1 cat there because she had black goo in her eye. They prescribed steroid eye drops for her that were somewhat pricey. I brought them back for a checkup and vaccinations. My cat still had black goo occurring in her eye. This time I was told, I should not worry & all I needed to do was buy eyedrops at the store to clean her eye. The ones that run about $2 as opposed to the ones prescribed previously that were $70.  Interesting considering the issue both visits were identical. One of my cats is over weight and has been eating a prescription food - which has been working. The veterinarian recommended continuing with that brand of cat food but switching to the can version, because it was higher in protein. They brought in cans of the food, so that I could have a sample. Their samples were $2.30 each (mind you they are a little over $1 at most stores).  Also, when I asked about purchasing the dry food, interestingly they told me I should go to Petsmart. The best part - I looked into the prescribed cat food. The can food, suggested by the Veterinarian b/c it had more protein, based on the nutrition label contains 8.8% protein and the dry food contains 35.8% protein. Hmmmm.... I was quoted a price of $70 over the phone w/out vaccinations.  I was NEVER even asked whether I wanted a 1 yr or 3yr rabies shot & didn't know it was good for 3yrs until after the fact.  I usually always have them receive rabies shots that are good for 1 yr.  I'm assuming they went w/the 3yr one b/c it was more expensive.  In case you were wondering, my visit totaled $266.55 & I opted out of the "sample" cans of food.  The most expensive vet bill I have seen for 2 healthy cats. Needless to say, I won't be going back to this vet & do not recommend going there. Read Less

We moved to the area six months ago.  We started seeing Dr. VanHusan at South Suburban Animal Hospital and couldn't be happier.  We scheduled an appointment initially just as a meet and greet for my kiddos.  It was a great appointment where we just introduced them to the clinic, met some of the staff, and let them meet Dr. VanHusan.  This allowed them to get acclimated to the new environment and associate it with positive reinforcement (= treats).  She is so incredibly nice, very compassionate, and has a great demeanor with both of our dogs and cat.  She made sure to understand our concerns and work with what would make us feel most comfortable.  They have since been back twice for their routine wellness exams and dentals.  Each time, we have been extremely happy with the service and care they have received.  The technical staff has a lot to do with this as well.  The clinic is very clean and well maintained, and I like that they have windows so that you can even see into their surgery suite.  Not many clinics would do this, but since they operate and maintain high standards of care...they have nothing to hide.  We are very happy with SSAH and will be back!  Thank you for all that you do for our fur babies! I have two different reasons for giving five stars. 1. I had moved to the Toledo area and hadn't established a vet for my 8 year old dog. OUT of no where, he fainted and collapsed and unknown to me, was in the process of dying.  South Suburban was the only office to say COME in now, we will get you on right away (Maumee emergency clinic wasn't open yet) and they were so helpful and willing to accommodate us. They even sent a card giving their condolences. Very personal and appreciated. Since then I have two dogs and they are so good to them! There website is awesome, meds are available and fair prices. They always have an opening when I need it/which the same doctor.  And my dogs don't even realize they are going to the doctor! Read Less
