I brought my two bunnies here to get neutered. They had an examine then the actual procedure. The staff here is very kind and knowledgeable. The prices are also very reasonable. Our boxer dog has an extensive history of GI & allergy issues. After relocating here I continued to drive her to Polaris because the holistic vet there who fixed a lot of her issues knew her so well. I finally made the transition to Dr Shields & my only regret was I didn't do it sooner. He read thru our dogs history & medical reports prior to our first appointment . I've been taking my furkids here for years and if anyone ever asks for a veterinary recommendation. I always suggest Dr. Ben Shields. I have had experience in the past with vets that manhandle animals and don't treat them in a way I want my animals treated and I am happy to report I will never have to experience that again. We recently moved to the area and called to set up an appointment based on referrals from others and Yelp. We were really impressed with how quickly we were able to make an appointment, how prepared they were for us, and the care we received. Our cat had an accident at the office inside of his carrier and he was quickly tended to by wonderful staff, cleaned up (as was his cage!). Everyone was very nice and understanding. I have been with Dr. Jeff for over 30 years and he has always been professional and helpful with all of my dogs. I feel he gives 100% to making sure your pet gets the best treatment. He doesn't talk at you, he talks to you about the best treatments for you pet. He treated one of my dogs who had cancer and took the time to be honest and helpful every step of the way. He is very compassionate in everything he does. Now Ben has joined the practice is has the same traits. I would highly recommend his practice to anyone. His staff is great too. This is a top-notch  veterinary practice!    I am new to the area and have been thoroughly impressed with the quality and compassionate care my Shar-Pei puppy has received. The front desk staff is very knowledgeable  and helpful when I call for an appointment or I have questions. The techs are incredibly patient and  wonderful and handling my dog. Dr. Shields and his staff are the best. I have an 8 year old lab baby and I feel completely confident in taking her to him as she approaches her senior years. I know he has labs of is own. He is so great with her and always tells me to keep doing what I'm doing and doesn't push to have unnecessary tests or treatments. You can tell his priority is the welfare of the animals, as it should be. He also taught me how to make my own ear cleaner at home which I've never had a vet do. The day we were set to close on our new home and move into the area our dog experienced an aural hematoma. We came in for a visit and were pleasantly surprised. Dr. shields did not immediately push surgery and did a thorough checkup. He explained our options and suggested waiting to see how our dog would do. When two weeks later she was no better we opted for surgery. The doctor himself called to explain her bloodwork results. Costs were reasonable and explained ahead of time. No surprises on our bill and every cost was itemized. We will definitely be back and have found our family vet. After the surgery our call and directly from the Vet. The receptionist and intake runs smoothly and are knowledgeable and friendly too! Great practice. First off, it should tell you something that when friends are willing to make recommendations to other friends, they must really  like the place. Dr. Shields is the best, most caring vet I've ever been to! He treats my three dwarf bunnies, and is very knowledgeable about rabbits and their behavior and care. He is very sympathetic and takes the time to explain things in a way that you understand. He also is one of the only vets in Columbus who treats and specializes in small animals (pocket pets). I started going to this hospital in 1999 when we moved to the area, when Dr. Duvall was the vet.  He helped us care for a number of our animals.  He was always truthful and honest about price of options and helped us make mindful, compassionate decisions.When Dr. Shields bought the practice i was skeptical about changing vets, but gave him a shot.  I find him to be just as compassionate,  honest and knowledgable as Dr. Duvall.  We've been lucky to have such great vets in Pickerington.  Nancy and Matt at the front desk are wonderful too (sometimes their great job gets overlooked, but really, they're great too!) I have always loved Boston Terriers, and after many years of waiting, I finally bought one from a breeder in March of '06.  As soon as I brought him home, I discovered he was very sick.  Dr. Duvall (who is no longer there), helped me nurse my Merlin back to health.  Merlin was infected with a bad case of mange, ear infection, respiratory infection, yeast infection, and every kind of worm a dog can get in its stool.  It took me almost a year and a lot of money, but Merlin was finally healthy and has been so ever since thanks to the Cross Creeks staff.  Throughout Merlin's illness, I had been fighting with the breeder over paying for his medical expenses, and Dr. Duvall even wrote a letter to describe how all of Merlin's conditions were the result of bad breeding/bad breeding environment, as I planned to sue the breeder for all the expenses and have her breeding program shut down.  The staff was kind enough to write off some of the charges as things got very expensive, and every time I come in, they know me and all three of my dogs by name.  Dr. Duvall is gone now, but Dr. Shields is just as nice and experienced.  On many occasions, he has been honest rather than push vaccinations and products sold in the office.  I feel they really care about my dogs and appreciate how friendly and loving to my dogs everyone is.
