PLEASE beware of a traveling vet by the name of Charles Rogers... he runs a business called Veterinarian Internal Medicine of Northeast Ohio. He does not work out of his own office, he travels around to different offices, he is currently licensed to practice in Ohio and Pennsylvania although in the past he seems to have practiced as far up as Maine. He advertises himself as a doctor of internal medicine and oncologist.
Last summer, my 13 year old Mini Schnauzer Misty had a procedure to remove some cysts on her and a dental, everything went well, Dr. advised that there could be some coughing from irritation from the breathing tube for a couple of days, which there was. A few weeks later she developed a different sounding cough. It was thought to be pneumonia or an infection from the breathing tube. Antibiotics were prescribed, but it didn't get better. X-Rays were done by her primary vet, Dr. saw a spot on the x-ray on her lung along with some heart and liver enlargement... he strongly believed that it was cancer but couldn't rule out pneumonia, we continued antibiotics and looked for an oncologist to rule out the cancer or confirm the diagnosis and hopefully begin treatment... we tried this Dr. Charles Rogers, who seemed to have good credentials. The first appt with Rogers was in August, he took x-rays and blood work, he said that he could see where someone would think she had cancer, but she definitely did not, He also sent out the x-rays to a radiologist to confirm that she didn't have cancer. We continued antibiotics and heart meds and Predisolone, Rogers suspected a recurrence of her Myositis that she had years earlier... by September Misty is having some good days and bad days, her coughing was getting louder. At this appt Rogers did more blood work and urinalysis, administered IV fluids as she was becoming dehydrated. Rogers did not want to do any more x-rays, he was convinced she did not have cancer, when asked, he took an irritated tone, told my Mom to sit down, looked her in the eyes, and said "Your dog does NOT have cancer!!" Misty was becoming more lethargic, coughing worse, losing appetite, having a harder time keeping her hydrated despite IV fluids... Rogers says to bring her in again for an appointment on 10/9 and he finally takes more x-rays, tells us her lungs are full of cancer and he wanted to euthanize her on the spot... we go from August: No Cancer, September: No Cancer, October: Definitely cancer, put her down today. We did not put her down, Misty was still alert and eating specially prepared foods, she was coughing, but her breathing was ok. We were alternating between being devastated at hearing this and angry at Rogers who not even a month earlier insisted she did not have cancer. Later that evening, we were able to see her regular vet, he took more x-rays, and sat down and compared them with the first x-rays he took. (Dr. Rogers would never let any of us see the x-rays at his appt, he would just tell us what he saw, and send them to his radiologist, who refuses to talk to anyone) I can't read an x-ray, I have to believe what the experts tell me... but there was no doubt that these x-rays were MUCH worse than the August x-rays... her vet did not believe it was time to put her to sleep, she wasn't in pain, not struggling to breathe, still drinking, etc... We arranged to get all of Dr. Rogers records and give them to her primary vet (the original report from the radiologist in August said there was a suspicious area on her lungs, contrary to what Dr. Rogers said the report said!) he was willing to try a chemotherapy drug called Vinelrobine, but he couldn't make any promises and wished he could have done it sooner... which didn't happen, thanks to Dr. Rogers.
DO NOT trust this Dr. Charles Rogers, he is dangerous, at the very least he is incompetent, at worst he is out for the money and does not care who he hurts in the process. He is not cheap, the 3 appts were almost $1700. Please tell everyone you know. I hope I can save someone else from going through this with Dr. Rogers. Read Less
