My dog had a surgery on something that wasn't even there from the beginning. We did xrays. Ultra sound. Dr. Was sure what it was there. Everything was a wait and receptionist mentioned compensation but i didn't see that anywhere. So the next day I go pick her up we wait more. Also they bring her to me in a wet blanket and her ear is soaking wet. How often do they check on our babies when we leave them here. I just wanted to take her home so she can rest and see a regular vet first thing in the morning! Go somewhere else! Read Less

Took a friends pet here for an emergency visit. They were able to see the pup, put him at ease, and gave him a shot of medication and a follow up prescription for a *very* reasonable rate on the meds. Additionally, the pup had messed his crate on the way over, and they cleaned it up for me and put a pad in so he would have a comfortable trip back. I was very pleased with their assistance. A great idea for an emergency vet to be open over night and weekends when your normal vet isn't. The staff here is super nice too.

This place was fantastic! We took our lab in about 11:30pm because he had what we believed to be a seizure. The vet took him straight back and looked him over. They kept him overnight to do lab work and get a urine specimen and to watch for more seizure activity, which made me feel better. I spoke to the vet the next morning and picked him up that afternoon. Both Vets and staff were awesome! Hope we don’t have to but if needed we would definitely use them again. Read Less

I took my dog here because I thought she may have eaten something she shouldn’t have. They told me that they didn’t find anything which was a relief. I’m only deducting one star because I really would have liked to have seen the x-ray. That may be a lot to ask but it would have been nice to see for my own eyes. I never did find the object that I thought my dog swallowed which will still have me paranoid for at least a week. Other than that I thought the staff was nice. I thought the vet tech and vet on duty were very friendly. The receptionist up front was blunt but I still found her helpful and nice. All the negative reviews had me worried. I think it had mostly to do with cost. A simple visit and x-ray was almost $250. The alternative is waiting until your vet opens. All charges were openly mentioned up front. Read Less

My 17 year old red heeler became very sick tonight. I've been to this place several times before and had decent experience except they like to make you wait...and wait. The last time I went there, I was the only person with pet and it was still 25-30 minutes before the vet lady came in to see us after being interviewed and asked the same questions by 3 different girls and then again by vet lady for the 4th time. So, tonight, the girl at the front desk takes it upon herself to tell me to go to a "regular" vet and wouldn't even get the vet lady even after I asked her to. I was so mad. I called back and talked to vet lady and she asked me to come back down after I had already driven back across town and to a different clinic. Read Less

Over holiday weekend, we took our 4 yr old feline with rapidly progressing lethargy & bowels passing actual pieces of tissue & blood. Cat hadn't had fluids or food for 2 days, and we were sure he would die during the night. We were the only people there, but waited a long time for vet, who saw us for maybe 1-2 minutes, and disappeared. Totally impersonal, not engaged one bit. Assistant ran normal blood work. NO X-ray was offered for foreign object & NO fluid IV was offered for dehydration, but an antibiotic was prescribed with no explanation of why, and a bill for over $400, which would be absolutely fine if these folks did ANYthing other than the minimum. Our regular vet saved his virtually lifeless body the next day with X-Ray, fluid IV, steroid, and intestinal medications. We would never EVER go here again, as the vet is virtually non-existant, not engaged, impersonal, obviously doesn't care one bit during the minute you can see him, and the assistants do not seem skilled or seasoned, and aren't professional. Big thumbs down. I think Norman, OK needs a high-caliber pet ER. Read Less

We had a late night problem with a puppy we rescued. It wasn't even an emergency you'd normally bring an animal here for, but no pet store or animal shelter was open to help us at 10 pm on Easter Sunday. The puppy had ticks deeply embedded in her ears (so many of them we didn't even know how to start removing them- I've never seen anything like it) and hundreds just all over her body. She also had two sizeable cuts that had scabbed over and looked infected. The center welcomed us in and helped us remove all of the ticks. They also gave us multiple ways to clean the cuts and lots of advice over what to put on the infection to help it. They brought the puppy high calory food and water. We were there for almost 2 hours just trying to get hundreds of ticks (and fleas) off her body and they could not have been more helpful and attentive. And to top it all off, they did this free of charge. I am so so thankful for the people who work at this clinic. They answered our prayers tonight. Read Less

Horrible service. Very sub-par. I understand they are expensive because they are open late, but they are crazy expensive. We took our dog that got in a fight with a neighbor dog in to see the doc. We told them 3 times that he had a chest wound we needed them to look at. Every time they came back to talk to us, (never examining in the room with us) they just glossed right over the chest wound like it didn't exist. Finally they came in with a treatment plan, covering just the scratch on his leg and X-Rays to check if it was broken for $658 ?!?!?!? We said no thank you and left with a $100 bill. We took our dog to another vet in the morning. The scratch on his leg was just a scratch, no worries, they would only do an x-ray if he doesn't use the leg in 2 days (for half the price by the way), and they would continue the antibiotics. And they found the chest wound we were talking about (because they examined him in front of us) which was a dangerous puncture requiring staples and anesthesia. The entire visit to the quality vet cost us only $200, only double what the charlatans wanted for walking in the door. And we probably saved the life of our dog by going elsewhere because they wanted to charge a fortune for the scratch and ignore the actual puncture that needed attention. Do not visit this facility! For 305$ our English bulldog got a Benadryl, steroid shot, and an eye flush with a bottle of saline... over two visits. They are quick to diagnose incorrectly because they don't take the time to actually evaluate our English bulldog. But they are even faster at price gouging If you would like the full story please keep reading. About 9 o clock at night we took my bulldog out for a nightly walk about thirty minutes later his eye was swollen shut. Thinking he may have been bitten by something we took him in. After a minute of looking at his eye they said it was an allergic reaction and charged us 253$ for 10 pills of Benadryl, and a steroid shot plus unrelated ear cream. We were informed that in about an hour his eye swelling "should go down dramatically." We went home and went to bed. The next morning his eye was less red, granted, but still just as swollen, and uncomfortable to our bulldog. We called and they said to bring him in and they would address it free of cost. We brought him in and they took him back WITHOUT us. Two minutes later they told us there was a VERY small scratch on his eye and that was why his eye was so swollen still. So for 62$ they gave us a saline rinse and cream for the scratch they thought wasn't really that bad. After rinsing his eye the swelling drop almost immediately... so in short they told us they would fix it for free after they messed up. They did not. And if they had spent more than a quick 1, 2, 3, on my dog I could have saved about 200$. I would recommend just about any other place for your animals.Read Less

They were kind enough to understand my financial situation and did what they could to lower the various fees. Tl;dr these are great people running a clean facility. "Describe your experience"... this isn't enough space to describe everything that just transpired. I called ahead and let them know my dog is injured, more than likely from being hit by a car after she and my other dog escaped my backyard. The girl that answered the phone was helpful and offered directions to their office. I arrive to a locked door. After trying to open it, and walk around to see if there's a second entrance because I thought surely the wouldn't lock the main entrance to an emergency center, I ring the little bell to gain access to a place that shouldn't be locked in the first place. Once inside, the rudeness begins. Not one person asked about the condition my dog may be in after just being hit by a car. All I got was, "Were you there to see her get "hit by a car" (no kidding, she used air quotes and everything). I explained that a man carried her back to my house because she had her ID tag on, and my other dog followed, so no I wasn't there. She looks at me with disgust like I hit my own dog with my car! She demands I give my dog to her (and her being a vet, I did). Then the receptionist informs me it'll be $75 just for an exam, no treatment. It's an emergency center, and Sunday, so I accept. The receptionist then tells me "I'm going to put you in a room." Cool, thanks? After the "Doctor" tells me she has a small laceration on her arm and a mild concussion, he informs me he'll return with the treatment options. He soon returns with a $950+ "care plan" with a bunch of bogus nickel-and-dime fees like oxygen therapy and catheter placement (which cost more than the catheter....) and not to mention a $500 "miscellaneous" for potential treatment. Couldn't tell me what the additional treatment may be, but sure had a $ figure in mind already. He blew up that I questioned what the treatments were and why the cost so much (even though he asked me "Any questions?") and told me to take her to another vet, and that he doesn't go to my job to bother me. I reminded him that we were at his place of employment, and he shouldn't ask if o have any questions if he isn't prepared to answer them in detail so that I have a clear understanding. To top it off, I'm waiting for my dog to get a couple shots to treat her mild concussion, and this "doctor" comes out and asks his receptionist, "Hey, should we leave him a good review?" Then he repeated it saying my full name and where I work. Little did he know that I was still there waiting to get my dog, who should have been given to me by now apparently. He says it again to her and I replied, "You can if you'd like, but I'm curious why you're talking about leaving me a review at my job." He claimed he was just kidding. He wasn't kidding, he was just being a donkey (and you know what I mean). He quickly kicked me out and told me I was not welcome back. Come back? I would never go back there and I'll make sure everyone I know knows about the immaturity and lack of compassion and respect the showed me after my dog just got HIT BY A CAR! Read Less

I took my sick little cat in. It was dehydrated and had diarrhea . I told the receptionist who was a dunderhead, the nurse who was on drugs and the doctor. The nurse came in stumbling in and couldn't find the cats orifice to stick the thermometer in and said oh forget get it and stumbled out of the room. The doc came in and i told him what was wrong and he advised some medicine. I paid and waited 20 min for the damn medicine. The nurse was mixing it up and said she marked the syringe with a line, so fill it up there, which was 1.7 ml and my cat weighs 7 pounds. after two days i noticed there was not going to be enough medicine, so i checked the ml and the bottle said .7ml and she marked 1.7 ml. so i put in .7m in syringe to give to the little cat. it has lost 1 pd so far. mama called the doc up and was told he was going to get a cussing from the dunderhead receptionist, but he was shocked when a sensible, smart woman wanted to know what was going on. Then mama called again and the nurse who was druggy was cognizant this time and said she would give a new bottle just bring back the old one and the syringe. Well I have been to four Veterinarians in this damn town and everyone of them are fking Quacks. All they think about is the money. I got the first cat out of a shelter, petco, and it was sick. turned out it had a staff infection from the fricking doc who performed the neuter on the cat so it was doomed. took it to Rose Rock and they punctured it's bladder and said, oh it doesn't hurt, the hell it didn't. So i took sparky back again after two weeks of pills, they punctured his bladder again, and said he still had some bacteria. I told the bytch that if he couldn't get rid of this staff infection he would have to be put to sleep, this torture was too much on me and my cat and it was not a good life style for him. I had gotten him up to 12 pds and had him for 14 months with him going to the doc every month. Well when i said to put him to sleep she hesitated, like maybe she had lied, anyway as I cried she put him to sleep. If she lied and was trying to get more money out of me, then she killed an innocent cat. The fking vets only want money. I think they prolong the suffering for more money. what happened to compassion and caring..oh no it is money, money, money. Well i have found a vet not in town and they are good. I don't know if this new cat will live either, the one i took to the emergency vet, but i will not get another cat or dog from a shelter. I think they make them sick and are in cahoots with the docs to make money. I think they make them sick and keep them sick. the stupid fks. Extreme lack of compassion! Called ahead of time and let them know I would be bringing my 16 year old extremely ill dog in for euthanasia to the Norman Animal Emergency Center on McKown Drive. I arrived several minutes prior to their 8:00 a.m. closing time and arrived to locked doors. I rang the doorbell and the vet on duty said Well, we close in like 5 minutes and I need to get to my other practice. I explained that I had just driven 45 minutes with my extremely ill best friend to help end her suffering and that she is too ill to come back at a different time. We went to a waiting room within seconds the vet was in there literally physically yanking the dog away from my wife and I. No option to stand at her side as she is euthanized, no five minutes to say a final goodbye to a family member of 16 years, literally about 30 seconds with an impatient stranger invading our privacy. Much added misery to an already miserable process. Hey, as long as the doc made it to his other practice on timemission accomplished. Hey doc, next time pick up the phone and call your other practice to let them know you are handling an emergency euthanasia at your Emergency Animal Center and you may be a little late. It has taken me a long time to be able to write this review, but here it is. Near the end of 2013, our beloved cat started displaying a decreased appetite and lethargy. We immediately took him to another vet at a daytime clinic across town. I don't want to go into too much detail about THAT vet clinic, but I will say that they were incompetent and showed zero sense of urgency in diagnosing and saving our cat.Which brings me to Animal Emergency Center... One night, very late, our poor kitty got sicker. My husband and I were terrified for him. We called AEC and they told us we could rush him right in. So we did. We informed the vet of what we already knew from the other vet, and he conducted additional tests and imaging, and settled on a diagnosis of a stomach tumor. This was new information to us, and I wish more than anything I had been given this crucial information sooner. Maybe we could have saved him earlier... but at this point, our kitty had been so sick for so long, and his pain was unbearable. Oh, it breaks my heart to pieces, even now, to talk about... but the important thing is that AEC took every measure to provide our kitty with comfort and in the end, allowed our kitty to pass on with dignity, and allowed my husband and I to be there with him to cherish him in every final moment. AEC provided us with a cremation service, and we chose to preserve our beloved cat in a lovely wooden urn with his name engraved. We can now honor him for a lifetime, and that means the world to me. Up until this week I would have given a different rating; but Wed night was not good service. The middle-aged blond vet was not any good. Wasted my $68. She must have said "I dont know" at least 5 times. I took my dog in bc she had obviously been bitten by somethine, her face was swollen and she had the most horrible cough and wasnt feeling well at all. All the other times I have been here, after the initial consultation with a tech, the vet has always come in to visit with me and to ask me questions and to hear my side of happened and why I am here. This time, after the tech took the info, she took my dog into a room where I could not go saying the vet wanted to see the dog now. After about 25-30 min, with no one coming back to speak to me, the vet finally came in and said "tell me why you are here." I asked how my dog was and had she examined her? Yes I was told and she is fine. Fine--did you see her face and her her cough? Yes but I dont know the dog so I dont know anything yet. So I told her. She got my dog, said she cant tell about swelling, could look like that; I said I know it. Nothing but saying I just dont know. No--we can take a blood test to see if any venom in the blood or anything. I took my dog home after learning her lungs sounded fine and her heart sounded good. Later that night, my dog was sick-throwing up and very restless, guess the venom or whatever was traveling thru her system, no thanks to the vet who could have given me something, anything to look for or tested for something. Before I have been satisfied with their service, their attitude and their diagnosis/prognosis and choices but this woman--she was stressed and uncaring. It costs a lot of money to go here, they should have people who want to be there and have the correct creds and attitude to be there. Read Less

After moving to Norman, my older doggie had some stress issues that caused a host of other health issues. Her usual vet was closed when the problem escalated enough to ring my maternal alarm bells, and I brought her to the Animal Emergency Center. Highly impressed with the front office, techs and veterinary care we got while she was here. Yes, it's pricey, but they quickly and correctly diagnosed Lucy and got her feeling better very soon. I never had any doubts.I've also called for advice on various off-hours issues, and I've always received honest advice and even was advised how to treat something at home rather than go to the open clinic in inclement weather. Love these folks, and I'm glad to have an emergency room for four-legged friends in Norman. Read Less

Nothing more stressful than having to take a member of your family to the vet emergently, only to find your vet closed! The animal emergency center was the best option. They provided great care when we brought our 15 year old puppy in after getting clipped by a car. Truly appreciated their openness. As far as the cost of everything, they provided an estimate as well as options. Lucky for us our baby girl was fine and would only be sore!!! They provided great care at a fair price!

Read Less

Absolutely unprofessional, selfish and uncaring.Read Less

I have actually had to come here twice because my dog does not believe in getting sick during regular business hours, and both times we have received excellent care.  I actually think I'll just swing by here myself the next time I'm having a medical emergency. They are super friendly and you can tell they really care about the animals.  They got us right to a room and had someone in to see is immediately.  They tell you right up front how much the fee is to be seen, then after the vet sees you, they give you a recommended course of action, including the price, and you go from there.  They give you all the information you need to make a good decision, all the while also factoring in what is best for your pet.  There were pamphlets in the room for financing options, so I think they can help set you up with that too in case your poor furry baby is having a big emergency. It is my hope that you never need to utilize their services, but if you are in the Norman area and have a canine (or other) crisis, your furry baby will be in good hands here.

Read Less
