Southside Dog Bird And Cat Clinic

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
General Info
The Southside Dog Bird And Cat Clinic in Oklahoma City transforms each pet visit into a spatial conversation. The position of the animal combined with their directional angles and arcs around care holds significant importance in Oklahoma. Interaction with pets occurs directly only when they give permission through invitation. Staff members instead modify directionality through soft curves combined with slight sideways movement and diagonal body angles. The startle reflex diminishes while orientation trust develops. Caregivers occupy specific strategic positions—commonly seated at right angles—enabling animals to establish a triangular relationship between comfort zones and medical presence. Before tool visibility occurs observers detect blink rates alongside paw arcs and balance shifts. Southside Dog Bird And Cat Clinic delivers imaging services alongside early onset detection and chronic issue management while offering cardio screening and gastrointestinal alignment together with age-specific care. Access tolerance sequences service operations into ordered progressions. Certain animals prefer to initiate contact through flank touch before engaging frontally. Placing instruments on the floor before use enhances others' responses. Discharge routines feature re-orientation techniques including how to guide pets out with a serene zigzag motion, which angles to use for at-home bandage inspection, and where to position bedding to avoid corner-trapping during recovery. These tips reduce flight behaviors and help reestablish spatial security once the pet is back in a familiar zone. Southside Dog Bird And Cat Clinic extends its integrated care from Oklahoma City to every neighborhood across Oklahoma by embedding treatment into the angles spaces and soft pauses animals understand best which turns medical intervention into an inviting experience rather than a disruptive one.

I have used this clinic for 20 years now. I got my first dog at age 20 and they were always very kind and seemed to really care about their customers and patients. Unfortunately, I do not feel that was the case today. I now have a 20 year old daughter and her dog fell over unexpectedly and started seizing today. This has never happened before and was quite scary. My daughter called Southside to let them know she was on her way, as did my stepdaughter. Both were told to come on in. Both girls were obviously very upset and frantic. When they arrived, the customers in front of them were checked in. My girls were turned away and told they're no longer accepting patients, although they didn't close for another hour. The girls told them they had called prior, yet it didn't matter. When I called up there, the woman I spoke with became immediately defensive, which set me into mama bear mode. She was not apologetic, did not care I was a long time customer, and said they "obviously cared" since they referred the girls to the expensive pet hospital 3 miles down the highway. We have 7 dogs between my children and I. Sadly, we will be finding a new vet that will value us and sincerely care about our fur babies like they once did. Read Less

Firstly, knowledgeable staff. I called several vet clinics to find a specific avian vet. Once I described my pet's condition, only at this clinic I was advised to wait some time before bringing my bird in for an evaluation. They were not in a hurry to get my money, but rather wanted to exclude certain conditions first. I definitely appreciated it. After the proposed wait, I went ahead and brought my pet for a check up. The service was great, both, friendly and professional. My only inconvenience was that I live in the North side of OKC and had to travel to the South Side. But guess what, I will do it again with no doubt because it is absolutely worth it! Highly recommend. Read Less

I have gone to this clinic for years after today I will not take my dogs there again. They used to be well trained and friendly but that is not the case now. They have a bunch of girls up front that do not understand good customer service and the amount of confusion among them is baffling. They need better training. They over charged me for one of dogs that wasn't even there and when I asked her to credit me back she couldn't even tell me when it would go on my card. The vets there don't agree on treatment and tell me different things when I take my elderly dog there that has to receive heartworm treatment. Also they try to get you to do x-rays and other treatments regardless of whether you can afford it. It is all around confusion and I would not recommend going there. After today it is worth it to pay a little more elsewhere to get good care and service. Read Less

Cheap, decent veterinarian services with a catch: long wait times and questionable medical care can be prevalent. For instance, my family and I had our Boxer/German Shepherd mix, Buddy, neutered there, and he experienced leaking and dripping afterwards. We were promised by one of the vets that we would be helped free of charge, since it was their fault. However, we paid for multiple visits and were given shoddy excuses for his leaking despite the direction correlation to his neutering. However, they do the basic care very well: shots, pills, etc. I would be careful about having any surgical procedures done though. Read Less

The staff there are so kind, calm & caring! Krista & Caressa went above and beyond helping, understanding & comforting me when my dog had a bowel obstruction that resulted in emergency surgery - a foot long incision in his belly - then busted his stitches open a couple of days later. I work nights & was exhausted from trying to take care of him everyday. When he went back for the 2nd surgery 3 days later they were concerned for both of us so kept him overnight & insisted I get some rest! So thoughtful! & altho I don't remember everyone's names there is not a single person I encountered who wasn't kind, caring & tried to help the best they could. These people are amazing. I went to the same vet for 9 years (Ranchwood) my dog was in labor and the pup was stuck. Our vet said they were closing in 15 minutes and I'd need to take her somewhere else. I saw the this hospital sign as I was going down the highway. They were packed and closing in minutes but they not only took her as a new patient but put her ahead of everyone. We lost the pup but they did Xrays and found there was a second pup. Gave her meds to force hard labor. Stayed there with her until she had her baby. They saved her life and the baby. I was so afraid to ask what the bill would be. To my shock it was only 99.00! Needless to say we have a new vet. They actually care about the animals they work on. Thank you for saving our dog and for the pup that is now a 1 year old happy, healthy member of our family. Let's be frank. This isn't going to be the fanciest vet clinic you will ever walk into. This is affordable health care for your pets. It is not an emergency clinic - first come first serve. Dr. Harlin is very knowledgeable and would never do anything to put your pet in jeopardy. As the review below indicates, they are always looking for ways to save you money rather than nickel & diming you to death. I took my dog there in October for a 'lick-sore', we followed up again in April and they didn't charge me an office visit because it was a 'follow-up'. They are doing the best they can. If you need to know every detail of your pet's visit, then maybe you should go to a regular vet office with regular vet prices. You can't have your cake & eat it too! Read Less

Roger Harlin, is the most unprofessional and rude person I have the displeasure of dealing with in a quite some time.I brought my dog into the Southside Dog Cat & Bird Clinic have his teeth cleaned. He is a rescue and had some pretty bad teeth. They cleaned his teeth just fine, but they had to remove 3 teeth because of their condition. The problem I have with this vet is at no point in time did they ever call me and tell me he had 3 bad teeth and they never told me they pulled the teeth. I didn't know until the next morning I noticed teeth missing, so when I went to the office to ask about why they were gone, Robert got defensive and rude. When I told him I was upset, the first words he said to me were, "Well there are other places you can go for this kind of service." He also told me that they did me a service for not charging the $13 extraction fee for each tooth. He never did seem to care that I was never informed that teeth were removed and I was upset because of that. He said, "we probably should have said something."Do not take your animal there because you never know what they will do to them when you're not there. Read Less

The prices are reasonable, they do not overcharge. My dog had a problem last year that nobody could figure out...Southside couldn't figure it out, and I also took her to Neel Veterinary. Each place ran all kinds of tests, but all came back negative. The staff at Southside really did all they could to help her, and what I really appreciated was that they didn't charge me for consecutive re-exams for the same illness. Most vets will charge you each and every time you have to take your pet in, but they just charged me for meds when I had to keep taking her back for the same problem. We did eventually solve the mystery; she was having bad reactions to the heartworm medicine she was on. We switched her to another one, and she's been fine ever since. I think they're great. It's not posh, it's not glam...but it's not dirty, (as I saw one post elude to) the building is just an older building, with older furniture, but the clinic and exam rooms are clean. They are first come, first serve. If you don't like waiting, get there first. If you have an emergency and they can't get you in, go to Neel. What you don't want to do, is take your pet to Banfield. Did that done that. They overcharge, and oversell everything. They're more interested in selling you pet insurance than the health of your pet....and your wallet. I'd also like to add that I took an injured dove to Southside once... a wild bird, not a pet, and though she told me they couldn't treat wild animals, I could see it tugging at her. She wanted to help it., but all she could do was hold it and make it comfortable while it expired, so that's what she did. Point is, I don't think they'd let an eight week old kitten, an animal they CAN help...die out in their waiting room as that one post stated. I don't believe that for a minute. Southside Dog Cat and Bird are good people. Read Less

Best Animal Clinic in Oklahoma City!!! I've been taking my pets to this clinic for over ten years. I even drive over 20 miles just to take my pets to this clinic! All the staff I've dealt with (with the exception of a few) have been very kind, compassionate & caring. Dr. Harlan knows his stuff, & even after all the years in Vet Medicine, he seems to be one of the few Vets I've ever known, that has not ""calloused"" with time in the profession! I love that! Pricing @ this clinic is very very reasonable in comparison to most other clinics in town! (Do the homework) I've had few problems at this clinic. All staff are human. You can't expect everyone to be perfect all the time. That clinic is high volume, high stress! I've read some of the negative reviews here & am just stunned that people are so ignorant! Interesting to note ... To the man who claims ""they killed my puppy"" & the one who says, ""worst clinic in Okc"" ... How's this for you? My aunt called me, says she's sick, (out of the blue). I took her to Integris Hospital E.R. They gave her some meds; insisted she would be fine. But, then she died in less than a week & the doctors had no explanation. What?!? Am I supposed to be mad at the hospital & the doctors because there was probably something more wrong with my aunt than was originally discovered? Am I supposed to go around telling everyone that ""THEY killed my aunt""? Get over it people!!! It is the PRACTICE of MEDICINE... not a fine science!!! In contrast, my dealings with a certain ""northside"" ""24-hr - Emergency Animal Clinic"" on N. MacArthur, in OKC, that will remain nameless here, is a place I will NEVER EVER take my pets!!! (& it is within 5 miles of where I live!) Talk about really rude, hateful and disrespectful??? ... NOW if you want real incompetency, & to be treated rude, then I suggest you go to THAT clinic & get charged out the wazoo to boot! Southside Dog Cat & Bird Clinic is the Best in Oklahoma City! I recently lost my dog Buster whom I loved very much. He was 10 1/2 years old. I've taken Buster to the Southside Dog Clinic he's entire life. We have always received excellent care and kindness from all the staff - from the front desk to the doctor to the surgeon. When I took him in this last time he was in a very bad way but they took him back immediately, worked very hard to revive him and they cried along with me as he passed. I have taken all my animals for the past 20 plus years to this clinic and I have been very satisifed with them. I have tried other vets that are closer to me but I didn't like them manner. It has always been worth the drive. The waiting is long sometimes depending on the day of the week. It's because they do everything possible to keep the price down to a minimum for the max. care. I will continue to use them when I have the heart to find another dog to love as I did so much for Buster. Read Less

Southside Dog Bird And Cat Clinic

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
(45)
7020 S Shields Blvd
Oklahoma City Oklahoma 73149

Read Less

When he went back for the 2nd surgery 3 days later they were concerned for both of us so kept him overnight & insisted I get some rest!

You're in good hands! :) Read Less

I've taken my animals here for over 20 years, I moved to piedmont a while back and still drive all the way across town just to take them here. I've been to several other clinics over the years and really don't have a problem with any others but it just seems the farther North you go the more expensive they are. Every other Vet wants to charge 3-5 times as much and constantly try to up-sell other products and services. I've never had a problem with wait times or rude staff, sure they're busy sometimes but thats to be expected... Clinics with nobody in the waiting room are that way for a reason. Read Less

Genuine care from Vets and very reasonable prices. Only downside can be the wait time since it's first come/first serve but worth it for the savings.

I love Dr. Harlin and his group. I can call anytime I have an emergency and they have seen us through some really rough times (one of the dogs had cancer). This is the only vet that my dog won't bite and they have done an emergency c-section and spaying on another one of our babies. (we have 5 dogs). I can always know that my pets will be well loved and pampered when they go there. Read Less

My family has taken ALL our pets here for 30+ yrs and have NEVER had a bad experience. I think the bad reviewers are only trying to get business for Ban---- (since this name is used). There can be a wait sometimes, but this is because it is first-come first-served (unless it is an emergency). I have lived in various places, including overseas, and Dr. Harland runs a top notch clinic. We drive over 45 mins to this clinic and will continue to do so!!! Read Less

Read Less
