Dr. Metcalf has been caring for my English Bulldog for a few months and was always great with him. He unfortunately got really sick and was hospitalized for an entire week with chronic kidney disease. Dr. Metcalf called me everyday, updated me on his condition, and answered all my endless questions. She even called me on her days off to check on him. Took my German Shepherd here to be fixed, chipped, and get her rabies vac. she is not a public friendly dog and they were great with her. I've been back one other time and the experience was the same, I will say they are a little more costly than some other places I could of gone, but the service was top notch. Unfortunately, the vet I used forever retired and I had to find a new vet. I had been to Hecht to have my Yellow Lab spayed and she passed away less than a week after due to an infection and of course they denied responsibility. That being said I wasn't going to trust any vet and so I did my research. When my furbaby Franki was diagnosed with cancer they took such good care of her and she out lived her prognosis by 17 months! I have dealt with a few different Vets there for both my cat and dogs, and each has been compassionate and competent. My cat has been sick recently, and on two different occasions they got her in without an appointment immediately. This was the only place where I could walk in with my super-sick five month old puppy on a Saturday, no questions asked. They worked with us on payment and meds, very kind, caring, and helpful staff. I took my cat here because he became lethargic and refused to eat. The Vet gave him an examination and reported that despite a minor fever, all his vitals were relatively normal and blood work would be needed to investigate further. What I really appreciated was the doctor recommended that I take my cat home for 24 hours to monitor his condition, BEFORE administering and charging me for further testing. He even offered to wave the consultation fee if things didn't improve by the following morning and I needed to come back. I'm happy to report that my cat made a full recovery and I'm glad that on top of being sick he didn't have to endure the unnecessary pricking of needles. Very friendly and down-to-earth. No BS--we were in and got the antibiotics/pain meds and done. They didn't try to hustle me for more money like most vets do. I am overwhelmed and grateful for all that Dr. Shipman and the McKinney Animal Hospital staff has done for my pets, more recently for my sweet ten-year-old dog Jack. He suddenly became very ill over the weekend. ER doctors were not able to pinpoint why he was so sick. After he returned home he only get worse. I called Dr. Shipman first thing on Monday. She discovered that Jack had developed pancreatitis and kept him at the hospital to give him fluids and antibiotics. On the third day, he finally ate food on his own. I was able to visit with him and his appearance stunned me. He was happy to see me, not depressed and sick-looking. He was smiling again. Dr. Shipman has always showed compassion and understanding for my pets and also for me. All of the veterinarians, staff and technicians at McKinney have always shown great care for my pets. I have always been able to call and speak to Dr. Shipman when I have a problem or they are sick. And just a few months ago, Dr. Shipman and all of the vets and staff helped us through a very difficult time with our dog Sugar who developed an advanced cancer. It meant so much to my husband and I to have their care and support. I'm so thankful McKinney is there for us and they truly do care.
