I had to take my dog here, because he was my foster before I adopted him, and this is the clinic the rescue wanted me to go. If you need something simple/routine like flea media or spays, neuters and vaccines, then this place is ok. However, I asked Dr Dax to look at a spot on my dogs tummy. Dr Dax says "that's just a bruise." Well I told him it was not a bruise, he had had it for months. Well I was just informed fr his nev vet, that it is skin cancer. From the initial visit where it wasetermined our puppy needed oral surgery to the surgery itself we were treated very friendly and professionally. Birch Street Animal Clinic is wonderful! They are so friendly, kind and compassionate. My cat has a chronic illness that likes to pop up at the most inconvenient times (weekends). I cannot say enough great things about this clinic. They have taken excellent care of my 2 dogs (and me). They compassionately helped me through the aging and ultimate loss of my Missy. They continue to care of my Boo, who is aging "gracefully". Both Dr Dax and Dr Jarrett are extremely competent and compassionate. Dr Jarrett's knowledge amazes me, he is always willing to take the time to explain things, as does Dr Dax. The staff at Birch Street Clinic clearly care about the animals. Sometimes the technical info from the doc goes over my head but I appreciate that they want to educate me. Right now I have 2 senior cats and a senior dog and we have our share of the issues that often accompany aging. I can usually get an appointment quickly when it's urgent. Staff is fantastic, which when it comes to our babies is priceless. Doesn't hurt that they charge FAR LESS then other providers and they don't pressure or take advantage of your vulnerable state to do more than what is necessary. There building is like a house that was converted into a business but I think it adds to their charm and homey feeling. A few years ago our male cat's pancreas was giving out again and after a week in their care he came home. Fees were half of what we were charge 2 years prior with another provider for same diagnoses and time in hospital. Worst thing is letting go of our babies and this summer 2 of my indoor 16 year old cats were dying (within 2 months from each other) and I just didn't want them to suffer anymore and to be put down. Initially I called around and they said it was their policy to have an examine first and do tests. The thought of my babies remaining hours be spent being poked not to mention the extra expense infuriated me. Birch scheduled a non-examination appt. where the doctor and nurse would come in and briefly evaluate the situation which in our case there was no doubt. While being injected we were right with them the whole time. Our only fee was for the injection and private cremation to take home (takes about a week to return) Can't say enough good things Read Less

I highly recommend Birch St Animal Clinic above any others. After getting the run around from other vet clinics and specialists about rather large tumor my dog needed to have removed, a friend told me to give them a call. So glad I did, they got us an apt right away and made her priority. After completley discussing with us best and worst case scenario, we scheduled the surgery with them feeling completley confident she was in great hands. Surgery was this morning and it was a complete success! The best part was they were always happy to talk to my husband or I no matter how many times we called throughout the day to check on our girl. Our first experience at Birch Street was over 5 years ago. We had an older dog that had a seizure and Dr. John told us that she had ruptured her spleen and due to advanced age and her condition the most humane thing we could do was to let her go. We had made that choice and the staff was so caring and handled all of the details afterwards. We got a new puppy about a month later and the clinic was really good as we worked through all the puppy shots and things.In December of 2014 we adopted a dog from the Clackamas County Dog Services. She has dry eye and will need medication for the rest of her life. I have done a lot of price checking and just one of the medicines is $23 cheaper at Birch St than at 1800PetMeds. The new vets that took over after Dr John retired are young, knowledgable and very caring.Even though we have moved to Milwaukie, we drive to Canby to the vet.If I could give them a higher rating I would. Our experience at Birch Street Animal Clinic was wonderful- one of our dogs got sick right before Thanksgiving and Dr. Dax & Dr. Jarret went out of the way to treat her, staying after hours even to check up on her and gave us phone calls to update us with her progress. Both of these vets are very personable and knowledgeable, and really worked with us to make sure our dog's treatment stayed within our budget. My grandparents recently took their child...a 11 year old cat into this clinic who ended up with a 103 fever and a draining tube. The vet made smart remarks about leaving him there all weekend with no one around and that he was just going fishing. They also said that the kitty could be picked up at 10 when in actually it could have been picked up at 8:00. The vet may have been joking, but when it comes to your kids being very sick it is just bad taste to make such jokes. Read Less
