My 3 cats have seen Dr. Clark and Dr. Hixson and are always well-treated. My kitty Freya has had a rough year with mystery vomiting attacks that can send her into major distress and keep her ill for days. Despite that, she's completely normal most of the time and we're still searching for answers. This past week, I had to call the office while fighting back tears to say I was on my way with a kitty in severe distress. I told them I knew they couldn't guarantee me an appointm...ent and I wouldn't make a scene if they couldn't squeeze me in, but I couldn't afford the ER clinic and I was bracing myself for the worst if all they could do was help me end Freya's suffering. When I got there, we were immediately taken back and with heat packing, oxygen and various meds including what sounded like a mild sedative, Freya was stabilized. The quest for answers continues, but the staff at Alpine have always impressed me with their patience and compassion and willingness to teach at-home care to clients when it's possible and appropriate. They've taught me how to give fluids, nausea and appetite stimulant meds and use heat packing between warm towels for coldness (due to low BP). Best clinic ever !! I was with Alpine when Dean Bauman owned it. When he "retired" the "boys" took over. What a blessing. Dean was wonderful and the thought of having less of a clinic was troublesome. No worries. Since 1989 they have been our animals medical team. The goat, horse, all the dogs and cats, everyone was seen and treated wonderfully. I've never had one complaint in all these decades. I've had some major health emergencies with my dog, and Alpine Animal Hospital has always come through for us. Even on days where they were booked up, they managed to squeeze us in for quick visits. The only reason I don't rate them higher is because they are really expensive. Every time I go in, there are always complaints from the customers that they are expensive. Worse still, they try to push things on you that you could easily get for half the price as an over-the-counter thing. Don't be afraid to ask about alternatives that could be cheaper. Read Less

I moved to Corvallis in 2013 with an 11-year old dog. Within a few months, I discovered a tumor and needed to find a vet quickly. Friends recommended Alpine and I could not be happier with my experiences there. Dr. Clark saved my dog's life (at least I think so). He is kind and compassionate and is always willing to talk directly to my veterinarian family members about treatments. I could not have asked for a better experience. I've used them since my dogs were puppies, and for my ferret before that.  I guess it's been over 10 years.  I drove from Portland to Corvallis for vet visits even after I moved.  I've never had a single complaint.  They have great prices, great service, and I really miss them.  I did get a new vet out in Tigard, where I moved 3 months ago.  I miss them, and am considering taking days off to drive them back for appointments.  The only issue is Toby now has diabetes, and getting his insulin kept up could require me to take some days off just for his care.  I highly recommend them, and I miss them.  :)  Great team!  Thank you for hiring such a great team. After great care for 10+ years, I was really frustrated that the clinic refused to dispense flea treatment for a rescued kitty who has records of being seen in last 4 months by a vet at a different office, just so they could charge me for a vet exam. Ridiculous. This is not a federally regulated medication, it's a topical flea treatment and an example of putting $$ before what's best for animals. Front desk needs training in customer service and the vets should revisit this policy. Until then, I wouldn't recommend them and it makes me reconsider whether we should stay with this clinic. They have been our vet for over 3 decades. I can't say enough about how well they handle and care for pets. We have had to make the hard decision to put down 3 dearly loved dogs over the years, and the compassion and dignity shown by Dr. Clark and his staff are remarkable. Dr. Hixson is truly an animal whisperer, he can calm the most anxious animal with a gentle touch and word. I can't recommend them highly enough. I adore Alpine Animal Hospital and have taken my pets there since 1992. The vets are kind, skilled, knowledgeable, give reasonable recommendations and they are reasonable in cost. In reading some of the reviews from 6-7 years ago where people were displeased with reception service, my comment would be to go back again. There are staff changes over time and at that time there was someone who was not the most courteous. It really is a top rate vet practice! Read Less

Years ago, when I was a poor college student, I found a kitten while kayaking. She was covered in mites, fleas, and had an eye infection so her eyes would not open. There was some outbreak at the time, so local shelters would not take the kitten, so I decided to keep it, and took it to this clinic. The Dr. took care of the kitten and as a kind gesture of humanity waved the fee. I feel like some veterinary clinics approach the health of our pets as an upsetting opportunity. This experience showed me this clinic puts the welfare of our pets and the community as a number one priority, above profit. My mom was just in there with her dog that had a ruptured injury and was bleeding. She was turned away due to letting them know that she could only afford to pay part of the bill (I would have paid the rest). Is this how you practice? Turning away an injured animal? I am appalled! We will take our fur-baby elsewhere and will be sure to let the community know how much you "care" for injured animals. This saddens me. I've had great service here, and really like the vets. I've used them for my two aging cats, and they have handled all of our weird issues with great care and compassion. We've seen Dr. Porter and Dr. Hixson, and they are both excellent. They don't try to sell you on expensive care choices, but do make everything you need available. I find the reception staff, all of whom seem to also be vet techs, to be very friendly and helpful, and I can always get an appointment when I need one. And they're open Saturday morning! Read Less

We have been going to Alpine for five years for all four of our pets.  We have worked with all three vets and a number of technicians and have found them all to be compassionate, caring, and professional.  They are generous with their time and patient with all my questions; I appreciate that they are thoughtful in presenting different procedures and the risks and benefits (including cost analysis).  Drs. Porter, Cole and Hixon have been willing to spend time on the phone with me for followup as well.  Customer service has always been excellent.  There are times when I have had to wait a bit for our appointment, but also times when I have taken up a lot more time in the appointment room than was anticipated, and I appreciate that the staff at alpine are willing to do what is necessary to provide my pets with the best care.  I recommend them highly and would not go anywhere else. While I like the vet we've used there, I have to warn against boarding here. After just one night, my dog came home very stressed, thirsty, appeared dehydrated, and was frantic to relieve herself when she came home. I have boarded her before and she's a pretty easy going girl so this was not typical of her behavior. The kennel itself was basically a dark prison cell with some dried up feces at the back of the kennel. The staff was not overly friendly either. I'm only giving two stars because I like her vet. We have taken our dogs to Dr. Hixson at Alpine for almost 20 years and feel that the treatment shown to Gus & Bailey as well as our experience with the entire staff has been exceptional!  They have gone above and beyond to make sure our dogs are happy and healthy.  I will give two examples......several years ago our little Gus had been staying in another facility while we were on vacation and was severely injured.  Our son picked up the dog and took him to Alpine where he was seen immediately.  That evening, and several more times, Dr. Hixson called us in Hawaii to assure us that Gus was improving and took the time to answer all of our questions.  Recently our dog, Bailey, was showing severe anxiety while riding in the car and the noise of fireworks and thunderstorms.  With the help of Dr. Hixson and his staff we were able to find medication that has improved her anxiety greatly.  We happily recommend Alpine Animal Hospital to all animal lovers who want the best care for their furry friends! Alpine Is an amazing hospital! Our kitty got shot with a BB gun that shattered her front femur. Dr. Hixon and his staff were amazing. They got her right in.... Even though we didn't have an appointment. He did surgery the same day and the cost of everything was extremely  reasonable. I live in Harrisburg but work in Corvallis so having them so close is practical. We ended up having to take her back ( No Fault on Alpine) because we were holding her outside and she got spooked and jumped out of my brother-in-law's arms and went missing for several hours. We were worried she may have re-injured her leg but after Dr. Hixon checked her... Everything was fine. He was so generous he even gave us $45.00 dollars worth of pain medications for free. Awful.  I was new to town and went here on a recommendation.  I sat in the waiting room with my nervous dog for well over an hour past our appointment time.  There was nobody at the desk most of this time to ask about the wait.  Once we got in to see the vet she looked over him really quickly, not commenting on his massive amount of tumors, missing teeth, bad eyes or any of the obvious stuff (he's a rescue dog who had a rough start).  She prescribed an expensive ear medication I later found out he didn't need (we were there for fleas) and sent us on our way after spending about 5 minutes with us.  Go somewhere else that will take care of your pet and not try to sell you things you don't need.. Although I don't have much experience with vets I do know doctors and my favorites always are ones that aren't afraid to field questions.Dr Hixson and Alpine Animal Hospital gets high marks from me.  My cat doesn't seem to like these visits and has been known to attack during his examination.  The staff's manner with the animal was excellent.  They patiently answered all my questions.I gave him another star after my visit as I had to call in and had a couple of more questions.  I thought I would just ask random people on his staff but he ended up talking to me and again patiently answering all of my questions.... great stuff. I have taken our dog, Juicy, to Alpine for problems, shots, etc. since we bought her in 2003. Not once have I felt poorly treated or maligned.
