When I took my rabbit in to West Hills for the first time I thought for sure she was reaching the last few months of her life, but thanks to Dr. Vickstrom and staff, she lived another 3 and a half years. They saw her through arthritis, kidney failure, eye issues, and infections all with a great quality of life. Every time I went in for an appointment or to pick up food, everyone was friendly and knew exactly who I was. When my rabbit did eventually pass, I got a really nice card from everyone there. Definitely a top-notch vet, with staff having close ties to OSU.  They do more than dogs and cats, also handling small animals including exotic birds, which can be hard to find proper care for.  (we have five different pets that go there, ranging from a St. Bernard dog, all the way down to a little Bichon Frise, a rabbit and exotic birds, all well-cared for)  Staff really care about both the patient and the owner, following up with courtesy calls, information, etc.  Our pets like the care and attention they get, as evidenced by their excitement to go in, once there. They strive to accommodate emergency needs, fitting your pet in whenever they possibly can.  There are certainly less costly vets around, but we feel the extra cost is justified in the overall quality of service we get! I see Dr. Yuko Eguchi-Coe, who recently helped me through the trauma of having a cat with pancreatic cancer that metastasized to the rest of her body. Yuko emailed me back and forth daily, even in her time off, and went out of her way to try to help me and my kitty. She went in and got us medications in her off time while the office was closed, and saw us after hours because that was the only time we could make it. And when it was time to let the poor kitty go, she was so understanding and supportive of the process. She went above and beyond to help us and our poor kitty. West Hills is amazing! I have a geriatric, reactive, easily stressed pup and I am so relieved to have found a team of folks in Corvallis that is savvy about safe handling and positive reinforcement! I am so glad that I was referred to them and would recommend them to anyone. After moving from Portland, where I went to Mt Tabor Veterinary Care and received care from vets and technicians who were up to speed on positive reinforcement based handling and making pets feel as comfortable as possible  (feeding treats during blood draws,  allowing me to be in the room since my dog's anxiety increases when I am not there, stopping the procedure if he is panicking, etc), I moved to Corvallis and went to two different vets whose approaches were less gentle. I thought I might not be able to find a good match for my dog in Corvallis and considered travelling back and forth to Portland for his routine care. However, a friend recommended West Hills and I was blown away by the entire staff's sensitivity, willingness to do what was needed to help procedures go smoothly, and understanding that there are lots of gentler ways to get the job done. This is, hands down, the best veterinary clinic I've ever been to. I've taken many of my animals there for care and have always been impressed not only by their knowledgeable and highly qualified staff but also by how much they personally care about each animals feelings and comfort levels as well as the comfort levels of the pet owners. I'm also impressed with the variety of animals they treat. I've had a hard time in the past trying to find good quality veterinary care for my rabbits so it's been quite a relief to have finally found a clinic I can trust to take them to as well as my other animals. I've been coming to West Hills for years after being disappointed by an interim vet. I love that all people who work there so clearly love animals and that each animal makes them smile. Dr. Moore and Trina's PT with my dog Bear gave him 3 extra years. And I always appreciate Dr. Remcho's research when any of my creatures presents with something odd.Read Less

My three parrots have been clients of Dr. Vickstrom's since we moved to Corvallis in 2011... well. Kitsune, the green cheek conure, has been. Tanuki, another green cheek arrived a few months later, and Bokashi, the fiery-shouldered, came to Corvallis in 2012.The staff are supportive and helpful, finding ways to get me in if I have an emergency during their normal hours (after hours requires a trip to Willamette Veterinary). Dr. Vickstrom has parrots herself, and is current on the latest in parrot behavior and avian medicine. She is also not afraid to seek information from other avian vets when there is something funny going on. It is obvious in the way Dr. Vickstrom handles my birds that she is familiar and experienced with avian clients!The prices are a bit high, but that is what good avian service tends to cost (except maybe the x-rays... ouch!). I also like that the clinic and the vets are willing to work with me on health options, explaining the risks and likelihoods of treatments and tests. They also correspond with emails frequently, checking on my birds and their progress, and even answering questions that I might have instead of requiring an appointment (and money!) to come in. This is a really good business to take your beloved companions to. Especially those more exotic companions.  Ive been to veterinarians in the past that just try to make money and handle my lizards too roughly, and ignore me, the owner. We had a Savannah Monitor who passed away in early October and the veterinarians and staff went beyond out of their way to help us. They were very helpful, courteous, professional, and sympathetic.  They offered us immediate assistance,didn't charge us full price, or for some items, then after his passing offered and did a free necropsy to find out what was wrong with him. They really went out of their way to show that they cared about the owner companion relationship, almost as though they were helping their own companion.I also recently took in my (March 2015) two sphynx cats, and saw Dr Amsberry. My boys were treated well, and Dr Amsberry answered the questions that I did have about them and asked what I wanted for my two guys. I was straight forward about wanting the clinic to treat my boys like part of the family, showing care, he said that he understood completely, and that our goals were on the same page. I appreciate that he was up forward about his experience with sphynx cats, I know some veterinarians generalize all cats being he same, or attempt to understand the differences, often resorting to a quick google search. That was NOT the case here which I believe is even better because my boys , strange breed ""  "", is understood by their primary veterinarian!I would recommend taking your animals here. There are a lot of people who take their pets here, there have always been multiple people in the building when I have come and left, which is a good sign!UPDATE 1 AUGUST 2015I was not a huge fan of the female veterinarian for therapy / special needs canine related issues.  She seem uninterested in what I had to say and appeared to be ignoring me or would talk over me most of the visit :/. We were referred to West Hills Animal Hospital by a vet in our are as our Guinea Pig had dental problems and was not eating. They were so caring with our little man, and were so informative with everything. I like being able to talk with staffvia phone and email and send them pics with concerns before we travel to them. The staff even checked up on him multiple times fallowing his dental procedure. I have and would refer anybody with an exotic pet to them, as they know their stuff and made sure you understood too. West Hills is wonderful.  I am a professional pet sitter, and so many of my clients go here.  I always recommend West Hills to my clients who are new to the area.  I have had to take clients' animals in to West Hills in emergency situations, the most recent one was for a little kitty who had developed a UTI during the holidays.  The staff at West Hills was so nice and caring, and Dr. Amsberry was so gentle and thorough.  He talked to me in depth about the diagnosis, what medicines the kitty would be getting, and made me feel so at ease.  Whilst I was waiting for the little kitty to be returned to me, I heard the staff cooing over her as they were putting her in the carrier.  They were so gentle with her, and sounded so warm and caring.  Last year, I was taking care of an elderly dog who was nearing the end of his life.  He needed several medications a day.  Dr. Amesberry was his vet.  I remember talking wtih Dr. Amsberry over the phone several times on behalf of the owner of the dog, who was elderly and had asked me to call the vet for her.  All of my conversations with Dr. Amesberry were always so reassuring and informative.  He was completely focused on the discussion and so easy to talk to.I recently recommended West Hills to a client who had asked me which vet hospital I would trust the most.  She was so pleased with her visit, and wrote to thank me for referring her to West Hills.This is a great place.  Great and genuinely caring staff.  Thank you West Hills for providing such loving care to the pets in our area. West Hills is without a doubt, awesome. Lilly, my yellow lab, and I have been going there since she was a brand new puppy. From the first time we walked in the door, I knew the service we would receive would be phenomenal. Dr. Candace Remcho, Dr. Steve Amsberry and the staff are fabulous, welcoming us with bright smiles every time we come in (which use to be a lot). Drs. Remcho and Amsberry were able to not only identify an environmental allergy that was causing Lilly's hair to fall out, but have also come up with great solutions for ongoing management. Before identifying the problem, I could count on weekly check-in calls from one of them, just to see how Lilly was doing.The vets and staff are also great about encouraging owners and animals to maintain weight levels for optimal health. With their coaching and encouragement, Lilly has lost more than 10 pounds and is now at her healthy weight. Now, each time we go in, the whole office congratulates us on the hard work "we've" put in (although it seems like Lilly sacrificed a little more with the ordeal).West Hills is also fabulous on e-mail, sending check-up and appointment reminders regularly.
