My cat died unnecessarily I believe. He needed antibiotics for an undiagnosed infection it turned out. However, non of the vets picked up on it. He was diagnosed with bladder blockage, they squeezed him, overly sedated him and sent home. He got worse, took him back and they had no idea, but you could smell the infection when i kissed him goodbye for the last time, which was never mentioned, nor did antibiotics come up at any time, it would seem that it should have been standard procedure to give antibiotics to a sick animal that isn’t recovering. It seems like a good place to take a dog with a broken leg or something. However for a small animal like a cat that needs more personalized care and treatment, i would go someplace more private. I'm not usually one to take time to write reviews, but in this case, I felt that it was absolutely worth taking a moment to do so. My mum's cat that she's had since I was still at home fell suddenly ill. He went from being around 16 pounds to 8 pounds within a matter of days. We made an appointment and brought in Snowball to see a vet at VCA Westmoreland because my mum had previously had a pleasant experience bringing in her little dog for an urgent visit. I'm incredibly grateful that we brought Snowball in as he was in very critical shape. He had to be hospitalized for a couple of days, which was very expensive (which is completely understandable and still less costly than hospitalizing a human), and we picked him up a couple days later. Initially the diagnosis was lymphoma but we were awaiting pathology results. When we took Snowball back in, we saw a new veterinarian there by the name of Shane Sheets. Dr. Sheets was so incredible that we have specifically brought our little furry buddy back in to him for each consecutive checkup. Its been a tough process, but Dr. Sheets wasn't willing to just give up hope on the little guy and his passion, dedication and optimistic attitude has meant the world to us and I cannot properly express how thankful I am. After numerous rounds of tests, blood work and antibiotics, our little friend is making enormous strides toward becoming healthy once again. We thought we were going to have to say goodbye to our little guy and were overjoyed that while some vets would have simply given up hope and told us to just make him comfortable or euthanize him, Dr. Sheets was willing to do everything in his power to treat our little guy while still trying to work within our limited finances. As a result, my fiance and I brought in our cat, Kitty for a checkup with Dr. Sheets and will take her to see him for everything in the future as well. I will note that rest of the staff we have interacted with are also great, the techs there all give Snowball all the cuddles and attention they can when we bring him in (he's a particularly loving little guy). I personally am just particularly fond of Shane's passion for saving and caring for animals and so I will continue to see him specifically whenever possible. He's amazing, and very kind, and I will continue to recommend him to everyone I know who has pets. Read Less

When my wife and I brought our cat in to VCA we thought we had found a Vet office for life. We were wrong. The first visit went well and our cat seemed better. She had a problem and the Dr took care of it. A few months later she had the same problem so we brought her in again. We didn’t have as good of an outcome. Our Vet was off so it was with a different Vet. We went home and hoped she would get better. Our cat started on a downhill slide. We called and the original Vet was in so we thought we would bring her in again. We were really hoping for a turnaround since we thought we were losing our sweet kitty. It just didn’t happen. The bad part is the Vet didn’t seem to care. Almost throwing hands up in the air saying that’s all I have. That is why the 1star rating. NOT just because our cat didn’t get well there. A few weeks ago our good friend and neighbor recommended a different Vet. We took her in and within a week we have our kitty back. And we are happy again. Three weeks later and we can say we haven’t seen her this well in over a year. All this from a simple fle allergy. Read Less

The worst experience we have ever had at a vet clinic. We brought our dog in to get a cut on his foot checked out, the vet told us that he would need to get it stitched. He told us they would sedate him and the procedure would be finished in an hour. Two hours later, we hadn't heard anything. After 2.5 hours the vet came out to say every thing went fine and our dog was coming out of his sedation and would be ready to go shortly. at 3.5 hours, and vet tech brought him out to us. We were surprised to see that his wound was completely uncovered, no gauze or anything. Since it was on the bottom of his foot, we asked if we should cover it before we went outside. She said she didn't know, but went to the back to grab a plastic bag. The visit cost us $600. We were pretty frustrated with the vet at this point, but it got worse. Five days later, just walking around the block the dog's stitches broke upon. We rushed him to our regular vet in WA (we were just in Eugene visiting family), they examined the wound and said that the stitches had been too thin and too shallow to work, and that they would need to re-trim and stitch the wound. They used deeper stitching, and finished in 45 minutes. It cost $119. Not only did VCA overcharge us by 600%, but their treatment didn't work, and they couldn't be bothered to provide us any wound covering beyond a plastic bag. I am absolutely shocked at the quality and cost of care provided by VCA Westmoreland. I will never trust this or any VCA location with my pet's care in the future, and I would urge others to do the same. Read Less

This place is the finest I've seen in my 40 years of owning animals. I'm a surgical technician and have high expectations when it comes to care for my pets. We own two English Bulldogs that are in excellent health and recently moved to Eugene two years ago. Finding a vet that not only cared about our animals and was doing what they are passionate about was a hard find for us. We went through two other vets before Westmoorland was recommended to us by a friend. Dr. Shane Sheets was nothing but friendly and professional and I knew after 5 minutes he really wants to do what he does. Support staff is exemplary. Dr. Sheets had me visit with his assistant while he sat on the floor to get to know his patients. After 5 minutes he offered every explanation and detail before I could even ask a question. We needed a fine needle biopsy and he performed this and a pathological diagnosis, providing pictures on his cell phone of slides displaying cells that were abnormal. He was scratching his head on this and had every vet in the hospital look at these slides as well. The group is stumped on the diagnosis so the slides are being sent to OHSU. Dr. Sheets even knew the pathologist there and spoke with him. Results could be back as early as today and if surgery is necessary they will get our girl in the next day. Dr. Sheets even came back out to the lobby when I was paying my bill to ask me where we purchased Mercedes from. He had information he just found that showed a certain area of the country may have caused the condition of what we were looking at. Is turned out to not be applicable to our case but the fact he did this impressed me even more. If your looking for a vet, look no further than Westmoorland. Sincerely, Rich J Read Less

I have taken my cats here for years, and they have seen me through the adoption/check up of a new kitten. They know how to treat and diagnose both little kittens and the medical issues that can plague senior cats. I have been met with nothing but compassion and caring from each of the vets there. The one thing is that they can have high turnover, so I got really attached to one vet and then they moved. But everyone I've seen has been great. I had to have my oldest cat euthanized a couple years ago and their office handled it so well, with such grace, allowing me as much time as I needed with my cat and providing me a back exit afterward in case I didn't want to go out the front. This vet is tops and I think they can deal well with pretty much anything you throw at them! Read Less

Signed my kitten up for the Wellness plan. They charged my card THREE times for $46.99 and insisted that they didn't. Had to have my bank cancel it. I was told my card wouldn't get charged again until the 1st of October and then it was charged TWICE again only a few days later on the 30th of august. Again, they insisted that "their system didn't show the charges" I had to drive to my bank, print the transaction statements to prove that they charged my card. It still took another two days to get my money back and both times they caused my account to go negative. They didn't even offer me a refund or discount of any type. We have received outstanding care here on two occasions where our Australian Shepherd, Ripley, needed emergency surgery. The first time, Dr. Rensema was the only veterinarian (out of 3 in town) who correctly diagnosed her intestinal obstruction and was willing to act quickly to surgically remove it. Without his accurate diagnosis, confidence, and surgical skill, I think it is likely our young dog would not have survived. On the next occasion, Ripley was attacked by two off-leash dogs while we were out on a walk, opening up a large puncture wound in her side. We brought her directly to VCA and were face to face with Dr. Rensema in less than 5 minutes. They took Ripley in and performed surgery, giving her back to us all patched up (complete with drainage tubes and cone of shame) later that afternoon. She is healing up nicely and will make a full recovery, once again. The entire staff there is extremely friendly and professional. I really like how they print out all of the at-home-care instructions complete with numbered, highlighted steps to make the process of giving meds and nursing our dog back to health as easy and stress-free as possible. They are also always available by phone to answer questions. The rooms are very clean, and the lobby is spacious and comfortable (definitely improves safety when there are a lot of pets in the building). Overall, we have been amazed by their quality of care. They have truly earned our trust and respect. Read Less

A few weeks back I brought my cat, Luna, to VCA Westmoreland Animal Hospital. Based on my experience, I will most certainly be returning to them in the future, and would highly recommend them for your animal care needs. I had discovered blood in my cat's urine late in the afternoon, and I was wanting to get him seen as soon as possible, as he has had urinary problems in the past. Before this had happened, I had been looking into switching vets, and Westmoreland had been on the recommended list. So I gave them a call. Their reception staff was incredibly patient with me, as I was admittedly a bit panicked, and managed to get me in immediately. I can't say enough to this. As someone who's worked in the customer service industry for a long time, I know how difficult it can be to have a customer standing in front of you, wanting all the answers in the world, who is also emotionally compromised. Jocelyne and the reception staff handled this with the upmost professionalism, and made me feel more at ease, despite the situation. I had told them about his previous issues, and they called his former vet to get his records. Despite being squeezed into the schedule, we didn't have to wait long. We met with the vet tech, and then Dr. Rutherford. Her bedside manner was incredible. She was very patient with Luna (and myself. Let's be honest here, it can be even more challenging to deal with the pet owners than the pets) and genuinely seemed to care about his well-being. Based on what they found, she and her assistant came up with a plan for me. And let me stress this, they broke down the importance of what needed to be done, and what could wait. They were conscious of my budget restrictions, and were honest about what needed to be addressed now. We came up with a plan that everyone felt comfortable with. When it came time to pay, Tito was incredibly helpful. As in most cases, this wasn't an expense I was able to perceive. So, I had to split the payment up between physical cash, and a number of cards. Which got me a bit flustered. Tito was patient and got me taken care of. I'm happy to say Luna is doing wonderfully, and he and his siblings will most certainly be going to VCA Westmoreland Animal Hospital for any future care. Read Less

I took my rabbit there last week because he had/still has a wounded testicle from a bite from another rabbit & all the vet did (I don't even know her name because she didn't even introduce herself) was look at it & say "he needs neutered right away". I asked if it would heal or if there was anything else that could be done, she said "no". Even though, from my research there is a high possibility it can heal on its own. I was very sad when she said this because putting rabbits under anesthesia is risky & this procedure would be even riskier with him wounded. She did not offer me any advice or give me any medicine, she just walked out of the room without saying hope he gets better, good luck, bye, nothing! So, for the past week I've been researching it on my own & putting iodine & neosporin on him to prevent infection. I called today to see if it was okay to give him infant ibuprofen to help his swelling, because the internet had contradictory opinions on that, & 6 hours later I finally get a call back from them saying "no, don't give him that, but you can come here & buy metacam for $40". Do they only care about money?? It seems that way. & why wasn't I offered that medicine a week ago when I was there??? As for the neuter, they want $250, & told me the price was normal for the area but I called around & found another vet in Eugene who charges $80. (A more typical price for this procedure). I will never go to or call this vet again. They do not care about you or your pet. : ( Read Less

We brought our pet to this hospital a few times because the location was convenient but I will never return because they grossly overcharge and oversell. They tried to charge us double the pharmacy price for one common medication and 4X the price for an antibiotic. The last straw: this weekend they tried to charge us $700 to have our cat's abscess drained (a procedure that our other, not as conveniently located vet, quoted us $250 for). They also charged us $100 for one lab test that our animal didn't need and that would cost about $15 for a human. It is unethical for them to operate this way. Some of their clients may not be aware that they are being robed by this place, it's sad to think that pets may have been put to sleep because the owners where told that a procedure like lancing an abscess is $700. Whoever sets the prices for this place should be ashamed of themselves. Read Less

Read Less

I had parrots for a couple years and Dr. Rensema was great with the birds and helped me immensely with resolving Gabby's plucking. He also did what he could to lower prices for me since I'm fairly low income. Great vet for exotics. Update: I have sold the birds but he also helped me with my snake and another vet there was very helpful and understanding with my dog dealing with heart failure and helped me find a care plan I could afford.

I wouldnt trust them with your credit card information. After all of that, no good review from me My business will be going elsewhere. Read Less

Read Less
