Came in with one of my rats when she caught a mite infestation on her ears. Dr. Powers was great dealing with her and gave her and the rest of my rats medicine that cleared it up in a week or two. We've used S.S.A.C. for 6 different dogs over the last 7 years. Sure, it's hard to get a timely appointment, but that's because it's a great clinic with great vets and great prices! We're thankful they make visits so affordable... It shows how much they care about the animals! Dr. Powers is super sweet and empathetic. He was wonderful when our dogs Mandolin and Boo-Bear had cancer. And our lab Mallory just loved Dr. Barry! She was always excited to see him and would actually wag her tail during appointments. Our normal vet is the VCA on stark but since my wife and I lost our jobs we could not afford the almost $2,000 estimate for our dog to have a lump removed and dental cleaning so one of the assistants their said we should try Stark street animal clinic. We went their and paid a small $40 fee for him to be evaluated and they gave us an estimate for the same procedure including so much more for between $500 and $600 total. We went with them and when we paid the total ended up being only around $450 (which is less than the estimate) and they did even more than their estimate said (blood work, nails, medocation etc...) Dr. Berry is great! He won’t break the bank and very practical. It’s a drive for me but it’s worth it for western regular vet type medical care. More of a clinic and be prepared to wait they’re extremely busy all of the time. The crowd in the waiting room runs from great to rough and as an all positive certified dog trainer I’ve been compelled to hand my card out watching people with their dogs...or had to zip my lip when a know it all is giving wrong info to another client in the waiting room but that’s a different story. For major stuff I do go elsewhere but I’ve got very specific vets for specific things and he was recommended and I now do the same because I he’s a good doc! Read Less

Dr. Barry and his staff at Stark Street animal clinic are amazing. My two dogs got into a really bad fight and one of them had their ear torn completely through up the cartilage. At first I had taken her to the VCA hospital and they wanted to charge an insane amount and wouldn't work with me on payments at all. Stark Street Clinic charged me 1/3 of what the hospital wanted me to pay AND they worked out a payment plan so my dog could get help right away. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR. This by far has been the WORST customer service I have ever had to deal with. If you go here and Amy, a woman with BLONDE hair, blue eyes, and is about 5'5 or 5'6 is there LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. She is extremely rude and has no care for good service. I accompanied my mother LAST week for some pills since my dogs got fleas, my mother speaks really good English and has no trouble communicating, but obviously doesn't look Caucasian. We went up at EXACTLY 9 AM, when the clinic opened last Saturday to pick up these pills. Amy told us we needed to come back before 5 PM because the dogs needed to be seen by the vet. We let her know when this usually happens we never have to see the vet, she insisted again that we come back later and we left it at that. We returned at 3:45 that same day and were waiting 30 mins before she bluntly asked us "what do you want". I kindly let her know we needed to get pills for the dogs and she said "you need an appointment." My sister who accompanied us earlier that day, reminded her what she told us. Amy grew frustrated and told us that walk ins are from 9 AM - 12 PM. Confused, we reminded her again what she had said to us and she said : "I'm sorry but it's what it is." I said to her that it's fine, and we will return another time. Today we returned at 9:30 AM, and went up to the front desk asking AGAIN for the pills for our dogs. A quick disclosure, they are NOT new to the system, we have gone to this vet for many years. Amy told us to sit and she would help us in a moment because the dogs HAD to see the vet for this. WE WAITED TWO AND A HALF HOURS! While waiting two other walk ins, yes WALK INS went up to her for the same reason and she gave them the same pills we asked for. All she did was look them up in the system and handed over the pills. My mother then waited in line and said to her "I just saw you gave the same pills we have been asking for since last week to those two walk ins. You told us we had to see the vet but it seems clear to me that's not the case." Amy then said "well what do you need the pills for?" My mom replied "for the fleas, the same thing I asked you for LAST WEEK, and TODAY." Amy then said "well I thought you asked to see the vet." What the hell???? By a miracle my mother kept calm. Amy then out of nowhere said "I'm not going to argue with you! Do you want the pills or not?!?" She literally yelled at my mother. In front of customers. My mother kept her cool (I DONT KNOW HOW) and paid for the pills and left. To top it all off, my sister then returned to the front desk to ask for her name, waited in line for 15 minutes, and as soon as she was next Amy GOT UP, and left to the back, leaving my sister unattended. My sister then asked her coworker what her name was and that was when we discovered her name was Amy. We have never dealt with this before, and are not sure why this happened given how sweet the vets are usually to us. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE, and if you do, STAY AWAY FROM AMY! Dr. Powers has treated all of my little fuzzy rats, and I've always been satisfied with his care. The prices are reasonable, but the practice is small. They always seem to overbook appointments, and I've had to wait in the lobby for over an hour even when I schedule a visit a week in advance. With the waiting room packed with people and pets, the receptionists still encourage customers on the phone to come on down and try to compete for a walk-in spot. There are frequently people outside waiting in their cars for a call to come inside. While the doctors are great, there should either be more of them or a more reasonable number of patients seen each day. I always feel like I waited ages for a nonchalant and rushed, if experienced, evaluation. Read Less

I used to take my kids to Gresham Animal Hospital. I have nothing bad to say about them except their prices grew and grew. I found Stark Street and fell in love with their prices, care and love for my kids. I was told that they aren't in it for the money but for our kids (pets) and that has been my experience so far. This is the greatest veterinary clinic that I've ever dealt with. You never feel rushed because they take their time and really care. Would have liked to have found them sooner, then my little dog might not have to deal with the skin issues for the rest of his life. Going to the vet is usually a very stressful situation for me and my doggie. My dog is deaf, and does NOT like people strangers. She needed to be treated for flea bites and ear infections, so I brought her here. Dr. Barry is a very calm presence and sweet to dogs, you can just tell he has a way with them. My dog was calm and friendly with him. It was the least stressful vet visit we've ever had, and that means the world to me. Nurses are polite, friendly and helpful. Dr. Powers and Dr. Barry are clearly veterans at their trade. They are always extremely personable and very sensitive to any emotions that may be in the moment when your pet is sick. While they accept walk-ins, know that there are only 2 doctors who run the entire clinic, and there is often only coverage by a single doctor on certain days and during certain hours. Thus waits can be very long if you don't have an appointment. However, they do fit you in with minor emergencies, as such has been my case when antibiotic treatment was needed within a very short window. I have had nothing but good experiences at this clinic, with quick and effective treatment, and always positive results for my little ones. Have been going to Stark Street Animal Clinic for many years and will continue to give them my business. They continue to give me the best care, without gouging my wallet or making my pets go through series of unneeded tests.Read Less

Dr. Barry gave my pets just that little bit of extra attention. He genuinely loves animals and it shows. I only needed an update on vaccines, he added a detailed exam and extra nail and teeth inspection. The wait was a little long, so 4 stars for this visit review. I so wish I had discovered this vet clinic ages ago. It would have saved me so much money and worry.  My animals have been to both doctors and the vets really have the same philosophy about their work.  It's a no-nonsense attitude and they both are there to get down to business vs. trying to sell you extra stuff etc. And they will tell you as much.One caveat.. they are extremely popular so it's super busy for the most part and they have a small waiting room. Our Scout had a bad fall and had no feeling in has back half. He was treated kindly and the prognosis was encouraging, but not to the extent of X-rays, surgery, voodoo and crazy expenses. This made a sad experience bearable as the cost, for once, was not even a consideration due to the affordable fees of this office. The staff couldn't be nicer, never EVER impatient, and Dr. Barry is the nicest man and dedicated Doctor. Thankfully the office is close, but please drive if you must, as everything about this Clinic is the best. Scout continues to improve in small increments daily...he's got a chance of recovering! Absolutely the best vets out there. They don't over test, they are caring and compassionate to both the pets and the owners (and their checkbooks!). Both Dr. Barry and Dr. Powers give sound advice based on years of experience. After going to every vet in East County and shelling out HUNDREDS of dollars in useless testing and bad advise: 1) had one vet want us to pay $95 every 3 months for a thyroid test on a 17-yr-old cat! 2) paid another vet over $200 to find out why our dog kept throwing her food up, only to be told "we have no idea", then our groomer suggested sprinkling acidophilus over her food--problem solved. You'd think a vet would suggest this. We have three dogs and five cats; very thankful we found Stark Street! Read Less

I've been to only 2 other vets but they never fully told us the price of anything until we decided to have it done and we had to pay. This place isn't like that. I asked how much it cost to get my puppy neutered and I was told the full price including meds, she was only off by $5 which wasn't a issue at all. Came to have the dogs shots done as well and it was super fast and we didn't need an appointment. I'm so very happy with this place and it's where I'll be taking my dog from now on. Read Less

They have been taking care of my pets for 12 years. They are carring and compasionate people. I know that my pets will get the best care there. I know Dr. Powers from when he was at Mt. Hood Pet Medical Clinic. He was the nicest Vet. Dr. that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting--- so great, that I had to ask Mt. Hood Pet Med where he went to! He spent extra concern and considerable time helping me figure out the best options for helping my elderly, sick cat ""Allison"" in the summer of 2010, while he was working at Mt. Hood Pet Med. He is absolutely in this profession because of his love for all animals. I saw the review about how one client seemed to think that he looked down on them for wearing nice clothing, or ""appearing rich"". I am sure that was a misjudgement by the client- and they still commented that the Dr. was great! There can be no way that the clothing worn by an owner would cause Dr. Powers to look down on you, or provide lesser care for an animal. And, if the staff seemed to, that is unfortunate, I'm sorry for that, but, if you have ever watched a television doctors show, (House, E.R., or SCRUBS), sometimes they may need to find levity when dealing with tough issues all the time(and I am sure it probably wasn't even directed at you). It has to be a tough job, seeing joy, and sadness everyday. I know that I just couldn't handle that all the time. I would place my trust in care for my dearest ""kids"" in the hands of Dr. Powers anyday! Highly recommended!!! Absolutely among the best care you can hope for, (and great prices also?!! C'mon!). Dr Barry has treated our 2 dogs & 2 cats and we have been nothing but pleased with treatment and prices. He was informative but also did not do unnecessary tests that could have resulted in major costs that other vets insisted were relevant & needed . I was very pleased going to this vet. I had a great experience. I had to have two of my males neutered, and they did a great job! I felt at ease, they were fine and didn't have any pain. They came though with flying colors!! I would recommened this vet/clinc to anyone. I had to get more done, and on a good time with them; also whom partner with the low cost referal help which I needed! So they were very easy to work with did that, and for the shots my kitties need in the future for thier health, it's my passion to care for my loves, and they helped so thanks!.
