We use to take our dogs to this location. However there was "ALOT" of changes that affected what we ended up thinking of this location. The front staff that worked there moved to a different state and so the front staff changed which caused our dog who had to have special dog food because he is allergic to not get his dog food ordered. Then the vet we had she moved to closer to where she lived to work. Which the next vet we dealt with there was a huge personality conflict. It was good before but now not so much. I was out of town with my cousin watching my dog. He had been vomiting blood. The ladies at this clinic took amazing care of my sweet boy. When it was discovered that he needed a rock removed from his GI tract the vet herself called around and found me the best price. She then knocked the price down on her original quote and did not run unnecessary tests. This all was done with love and understanding for someone they had never met as this was an emergency. My first visit was to put down my cat. The staff was amazing. The vet was thorough. Spent time talking about options and gave me very clear price quotes. Once I decided that letting her go was the best option, the staff handled both myself my cat with amazing compassion. I felt that the cost was very fair. They are not knowledgeable when it comes to birds. Was told that my bird has chlamydia and find out (from a trusted source) over $130 later that it's just allergies. They did not even check up with me at all after the appointment to make sure she was doing okay (like they said they would). When the appointment was over I was still not given even a guess of a diagnosis. They had a bunch of things they thought it might be (which I understand that it's hard to narrow down a diag...nosis without testing) however they threw out a large spectrum of different things it could have been which was not helpful. The vet didn't seem to have a firm understanding on birds like I had hoped coming from an exotic vet that sees birds. Additionally, I waited for a long period of time as she went from room to room seeing other animals between my visit. I will say that she handled my bird very well and was very gentle and patient, which I greatly appreciated. It's very possible that she knows dogs and cats very well so don't be detoured to try her out as a vet for your furry friends but my suggestion is that you find a different veterinary for your avian pets. This clinic clearly knows what they are doing and giving!! Thee best care and concern...They had the knowledge to recognize that my son's dog was not aggressive, but extremely anxious at treatment. They bent over backwards to make him feel better about vets. He actually licks them and shakes his paw.  Don't get me wrong, he still has a bit of a fear and will growl and show his teeth, but they are such trained professionals that they carry on, giving him no fear on their part. We have taken our rat and Bird to this vet clinic. Yesterday, my mother took her rat Travis to this place and they were all sweet and amazing. Staff and Dr. Winkler are amazing! They took very good care of Geppetto (hedgehog). Even though Geppetto was a little resistant they handled him with a lot of love and patience. They took very good care of my little guy and handled him frequently (keeping a hedgehog socialized is very important). I take meticulous care of my hedgehogs cage and they did too. Our experience was that the vets were really excellent and caring. But we stopped taking our pets there because every visit they wanted to do blood tests and later on it was very expensive senior panels. When we wanted to get a refill for a prescription we were told we needed to have them do another senior panel. When we told the front desk that we refused, we were told we needed to talk to one of the vets before getting our RX filled. It was ridiculous. The RX's were twice as expensive there as anywhere else. And the cost of the office visit was way over priced. As someone else stated, it is as though they just keep pushing for more and more tests and procedures which we felt were not necessary with that frequency. We have since found another vet and the prices are reasonable. We now pay $170 (same brand) for a prescription that they charged $289. Our new vet requests a senior panel annually. Although very elderly, our pets are doing fine even though they have some new conditions. But our new vet does not keep pushing for more and more tests and procedures because they said it would not improve their quality of life anyway. That is an common sense Vet. Keep looking. Read Less

I've waited a long time to write this review. I wanted to have a cooling off period and make sure what I have to say is valuable. First, there are a couple of things that I have seen in other reviews that I agree with whole-heartedly 1) they have very high regard for my pet and 2) they have very high prices. One thing that I didn't see in other reviews - we never saw the same vet twice in a row. I really like having a relationship with a specific dr and it was frustrating not to have that. I, like others, first came to this clinic as the result of an emergency. The care was excellent. Every person there is very caring and sweet toward their four footed clients. Dr. Ten Broeke attended our girl that first night and we are ever so grateful. We stayed with them for approximately five years. We followed every recommendation that they gave us regarding care and treatment with the exception of preventative flea applications. Ultimately, our girl was diagnosed with low thyroid. The medication that they prescribed was going to be $90 a month for the rest of her life. I asked the dr that we were seeing that day about purchasing the prescription online as a way to save money. She agreed that they were happy to provide the prescription. I went home and looked on the internet. You may have surmised that I am very cautious with my girl, given the fact that I refuse the unnecessary flea treatment, and you would be right. I would never do anything to compromise her health in any way. After researching the safety of purchasing on line pet medications I came across a flyer on the FDA website fda.gov/ForConsumers/Con…After reading through this information I found a website that was recommended by the FDA and went there to order the prescription. Later that day I received an email from the website (allvetmeds.com) saying that Gladstone had refused to confirm my prescription. This started a flurry of back and forth phone calls with the clinic. Let's say it was heated. At one point one of the assistants accused me, in a condescending tone, that I was putting my girls safety in jeopardy. They finally agreed to give me a paper prescription and when I received it, in the envelope, was a copy of the EXACT SAME flyer from the FDA describing how to ensure you are getting safe medications! So the bottom line is that even though they say they will support you purchasing medications in reality, they will not. You can send the paper copy of the prescription in to the online store but you will have to do that every time you get a refill because Gladstone will not confirm the prescription over fax or phone. Our girl has had three brushes with death (lest you think I'm a neglectful mom - the first was a reaction to ACE that another vet had given her, the second was hemorragic gastroenteritis and the third was an allergic reaction) and as a consequence we have spent a small fortune for her care over the years. As I said before, we did everything that was recommended and the care was excellent but when they became grasping and greedy, suggesting that I was putting our girls health at risk to save a few bucks, I had to draw the line. If you have endless funds and don't mind seeing a different vet every time you go, this is a good clinic. Read Less

I've been taking my rats to Gladstone for the past year. It was difficult to find a veterinarian who works full time and sees small pets, but it was worth the search to find Dr. Winkler. The vet I was seeing previously only saw rats every other Friday, but Dr. Winkler has been attentive and available through several illnesses and emergencies. We've taken all of our pets here since forever, probably because it's two blocks from our house. Three things you should know:- The care here is very expensive. I haven't gotten out of here once without paying at least $180 for anything. I've had a cat spayed for $280, a dog spayed for almost $500. When our times have been rough, we have gone elsewhere for service. The prices seem almost inflated compared to other clinics. They recommend treatment without regard to what could wait or what is essential, which is an area I think they could improve. Unlike other reviews, I have seen probably every vet in this clinic and I didn't think the vets were any more attentive than anywhere else. - If they prescribe you any type of drug for your pet, ask them to give you the prescription. They were going to charge me $180 for a prescription. Many pharmacies now dispense pet medications as well. I went down the road to Walgreens and got the prescription filled for $40.-  Provide your telephone number at your own risk. They will call you like a drunk ex-girlfriend, even if your pet has been in there within the week. This is probably the thing that irritates me the most about this place. I've gotten three calls in the last week. We get postcards all of the time, too. I understand veterinarians are invaluable parts of society, and I would do anything for my pets, but I don't need voicemails every other day to make me feel like a terrible pet mother because I haven't brought my pets in this week. I've been coming here for 8 years.  Although I miss Dr. Schaefer, I've had the pleasure of working with many of the other vets.  About 7 years ago it was time for my cat to leave us, and they were the most caring and thoughtful.  I sobbed in the exam room for 30 minutes and my vet stood by. I've brought my turtle, cat, and dog here.  They are AWESOME.   If you are looking for great, honest care, this is your place.  I drive out of my way to use this vet. Read Less

I have been coming here for over seven years now.  I don't have to visit the office that often, usually just for the once a year check up for my dog and any visits for shots he might need but every time I go in the office staff is very nice and friendly.The new thing they have that I LOVE is the ability to create a log in on the website and view your pet's information.  It gives you information visits and any upcoming things so you can plan for them a little better than just getting a card right before things need to be done.I usually see Dr. Ward since she is who I started with years ago but as she has been unavailable I've seen other doctors, all of them being of a high standard!  It's great when a doctor will come out in the lobby and just say hi and visit if they aren't swamped. I came to them last year with an emergency, and became a loyal regular customer. I've worked with Dr. Ward and Dr. Ten Broeke, as well as former associate vet Dr. Sheaffer, who have been excellent in providing care for my bird. Their examinations are thorough, they take TONS of time with you (of course, unless they have a critical emergency roll in) and their information is current. They're open to consulting with specialists, researching and input on treatments I've heard of elsewhere. Their techs and admin staff are wonderful, too...competent, friendly and personable. Gladstone Vet is about 10 minutes farther from the clinic where my other animals have been patients for the past 10 years, but they'll be getting my business from now on.Oh yeah---they're open late on weekdays, and they keep Saturday hours.
