I had a very old cat that I wanted put down humanely. I both called and came by the office to make sure that they could do the procedure as I asked. I just wanted what every pet owner wants at that point, to limit the trauma and suffering while their loved pet is released by lethal injection. I told them I just wanted to hold the cat down on the pet bed I brought her in and comfort her until she died. They said that was fine and they do this all the time. Instead Dr. Eckerson gave her the shot, then immediately pulled her from the warm bed I had provided and slapped her down on his cold metal table while she was still alive and flopping around. When I asked Dr. Eckerson, in no uncertain terms, why he did that? He said "it's just an animal, it, er (backpedaling) it's the procedure we have to follow to make sure she's deceased." When I pointed out that she was still alive, he then said that he did it because he didn't want her to lose bodily function on the bed I provided. Of course the old girl had already peed on the thing and I cared about my cat not the stupid bed that is now in the trash anyway. The bottom line is that vets fail to provide any good reason to kill your pets on a cold metal table, except it's procedure or some other nonsense. I should have felt a profound sense of relief after the inevitable ending ordeal with a cat that was part of my family for almost 20 years. Instead I went home and angrily buried my cat. I thank Dr. Eckerson for providing this service and understand that this is likely the very worst part of his business. I simply chose this place due to proximity and I do not believe that Dr. Eckerson's actions caused my cat much unnecessary suffering, but putting the live cat on the cold metal table was completely unnecessary. The service was provided and they took my money, but it was wrong, and not what I had asked for. So this review is not about bitterness over a dying cat or the type of service (thanks for that) but that there was a failure in communication and customer service. I strongly regret taking my cat to Dr. Eckerson. What is up with these cold metal tables? When we die at a hospital or home, we die in a bed. They save the cold metal table for when we are dead. I will never understand this vet's actions, but if you want your pet to die on a cold metal table, Dr. Erkerson is certainly the vet for you.Read Less
