The staff here are excellent in my experience. .competent and caring. The long time manager certainly gets credit for keeping that standard high. The vets change frequently but I have always felt my pets were well cared for in all cases..100% satisfaction in 95% of those experiences. They have a full schedule these days, a bit of growing pains but I understand that there are plans to open another clinic soon to alleviate that crunch. It is needed. They still do all they can to accommodate that being said. Read Less

I've had really good experiences at this location. I know some people talk smack about this company but I have been very pleased with the service here. All the Vets and Tech's I've encountered have given me wonderful service and are very loving and caring towards my dog. The insurance type program they offer has worked out really well for me and allowed me to take excellent care of my dog without being so concerned about getting hit with a huge bill. I also appreciate dealing with a vet that approaches things logically (but caring) without going overboard. Will continue bringing my girl here. Read Less

The corporate system of Banfield lacks any continuity of care. Our dog has been going to Banfield for over 12 years, all of which have been under the health and wellness plan. This plan can work for some, especially if your pet has no serious health issues.  The problem arises when your pet does need a proper diagnosis or specialized care. Our dog has had many issues. We've never thought twice about taking her in because her happiness directly affects our happiness. The issue over the last 3 years is the fact we can't seem to keep the same vet. She's had 8 - 10 UTI's over the last 18 months. We've ran every test they've asked, sometimes in duplicate due to a different vet starting over again.  There is a systematic lack of communication and the "hand offs" usually start you back at the beginning instead of making progress towards a real diagnosis. This is a corporate vet clinic. Don't fool yourself into thinking that "maximizing shareholder wealth" isn't just as or more important than the health of your pet during the board meetings. I will stop short of saying that they want to keep our dog sick but it sure doesn't feel like they have the staffing continuity, communication framework or even the compassion to properly diagnose and care for our aging family member. I called to voice frustrations today and I was promised a call back from a vet. Not our vet, since he has been gone for 4 weeks and not coming back for another 4 weeks. Not the last vet we liked since she moved on, like most of them do. Just any old vet would've done to at least make me feel more comfortable about how we can stop our dog's suffering.  Instead no call. Just like that our relationship with this corporation has come to an end. We will pay the remaining months on our health and wellness "contract" but we will not waste our time and put our dog through the stress of these vet trips that always result in the same thing... Antibiotics and a return trip. I truly hope someone reads this and makes changes that will help other people and their pets who go to Banfield. It might mean increasing the budget to keep good vets or hiring more so there is more time for vets to communicate with each other. There's a lot that could be accomplished if Banfield wasn't so focused on shareholder wealth above all else. Read Less

I had an amazing vet and she left, I have had so so since then, I have a rare breed so that's not easy. However, I just got super ripped off at the 21st Northwest location at Providence Park, that one... I thought it was in good hands. Not I didn't get ripped off that much, but I'm about 40 bucks over on medication. But was told to go buy the medication at the pharmacy and bring it back to them to have it mixed. Basically, they threw away all my medication and put it into two tiny ass bottles and so I'm out a whole bunch of money and the medication that they just dumped. I'm not even sure what one of them was. I got charged and never even saw it. Stay away from these people. I'm so done. They used to be really good at all the locations. not anymore. Read Less

I am so grateful to the vets and staff at this Banfield location. We just moved to Oregon, and my dog was attacked at one of the dog parks. She had a puncture wound on her shoulder and was in pain. I got her into the car and found the closest animal hospital... Banfield. The front desk staff were so sweet and quick, and they had someone come out to look at my dog to assess the seriousness. We then waited 5 minutes before coming back. The nurse and the vet were fantastic and explaining dog bites, their recommendations, and why they were recommending things. I never, ever felt that they were padding the bill or doing unnecessary things. That first day, I was too upset to think about signing up for the wellness plan they offer. The next day, we came back for an evaluation, and our dog ended up in surgery. I was so impressed by the level of care that I signed up for a wellness plan. Dr. Hilsenteger will now be our vet!I like the cleanliness of the front room and exam rooms. I like that the charges are explained in advance and that I can see them on the computer screen. Also, I was surprised at the affordability of the care. And even though we were there for something serious, we learned things specific to Portland (like the prevalence of worms when there are mosquitoes). Finding a vet that you click with is so important. Somehow I stumbled into doing just that. Read Less

I took my dog in for the Kansas City FIVN testing so he can come home with me in Hawaii. He's currently in Oregon staying with my friend which is extremely hard. I flew back to Oregon to take him in again for his second rabies testing in May and flew back home to Hawaii. I flew back July 1st to take him in to have the test done that Hawaii requires through Kansas. Hawaii also requires hand signed rabies vaccination paperwork which the vet I saw at this clinic in May failed to hand sign. (Knowing I was bringing him to Hawaii) so I was told both the Atlanta vet who gave him his first vaccination and the vet at Banfield would send me a hand signed (not computer generated) vaccination form, sent to my home address. This was 2 weeks ago, when I flew home on July 6th the vaccination from Atlanta was in the mail box. I called this location July 8th to find they NEVER sent it. Thanks Banfield! Today is July 14th, I still haven't received it! Smh! I called the 11th to ask someone there if they've confirmed receipt of the blood at Kansas testing center, nobody called me back so I called today, the woman who answered the phone was very rude and unconcerned saying "you just called on the 11th and the vet wasn't in yesterday" I called Kansas and asked myself, they told me the samples were received July 6th and are NOT MARKED STAT!! After the vet I say complained to me that I wasn't charged enough when I had him seen in Atlanta, I was actually on a plan and had to describe that information to her, waisting my time with that conversation as it did not relate to the appointment I flew 3000 miles for but it showed me she clearly was more interested in money than doing the present job! The STAT testing was supposed to take 1-2 weeks, my dogs blood has just been sitting there a week now because it was NOT MARKED STAT!!! So while she made sure I paid almost 500.00 for STAT testing. She did not do STAT testing! I called back and was told there's several dogs in the hospital and dogs in the waiting area as well the vet is busy and will call you when she can. I said is that going to be within an hour, is she going to keep seeing people or take a few minutes to straighten this out, the lady was extremely rude AGAIN insisting she doesn't know! She doesn't know how to proceed herself all she knew was that I was not a priority "the dogs here take priority over your phone call" well ain't that a b* Thanks Banfield for your RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE, TOTAL DISREGARD OF RESPONSIBILITIES, TOTALLY SLACKING OFF ON MY DOGS PAPERWORK AND CARING MORE ABOUT MONEY THAN ANYTHING ELSE! I don't mind paying, but I shouldn't have to harass the clinic to get the job done!!!! I've already bought a ticket back to Portland to retrieve my dog but apparently I'll have to change that flight! Don't offer services if you can't FOLLOW THROUGH I COULDVE SENT THE BLOOD MYSELF!! This is total BS! You're service SUCKS!! I feel like a babysitter I shouldn't have to call to make sure the job I paid for is done! GET IT TOGETHER! Read Less

Do yourself and your pet a favor- please go to another vet clinic!!! Seriously poor service. You and your pets will suffer. Service used to be really good - like 5 years ago... they are too busy now- I've been going since at least 2007 and I have always had multiple pets. One classic story from recently. My old dog needed a teeth cleaning and a severely bad tooth out- kinda emergency style- all of a sudden her mouth on the one side was swollen and I could tell she was in pain. So I call to get her in- I explained how bad it was- I'm on the wellness plan (for all my pets) and the say the soonest is 3 weeks!- so I get some pain killers to get her through. So finally when its time for the appt- i drop her off at 8 am, she sits in their kennel all day. I get a call at 5pm saying that they can't do her tooth cleaning and extraction because they ran out of a necessary tool, she continues to say that whoever did the ordering should have ordered more. So I ask, when is the next appt... 3 more weeks!!!! So I get more pain killers which of course cost more $$$. And my dog has to suffer and wait another 3 weeks.... Another gem of a story- I had my guy bring in our young girl dog because she had a little bit of a high temp and had a little bit of leakage. She was totally active, acting just fine, eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom no prob. He calls me all upset and says -they said she has a really bad bacteria infection that won't go away and that she needs to have all her lady parts removed. (For the record we were planning on breeding her once, puppies already had pre planned homes.) So I thought this was a little bit weird, since she really was acting totally normal. They seriously scared my guy, saying that he really needed to make the appt for the next am, and that she may even need to go to the emergency overnight vet.... so thank goodness I'm smart enough to realize something was wrong with this picture. I had my man cancel the am surgery and instead brought her to another vet- vca north portland (they were great) for a second opinion... turns out she didn't need the surgery, just needed antibiotics. She is totally healthy and just fine! Oh and by the way, that emergency removal of her lady parts that they tried to scare my man into getting- would have cost $$$$1,500 on the low end. Even though I'm on the wellness program! I've got a few more stories- and I'm finally pulling the plug- going somewhere else Read Less

I love this place! Though I don't personally have any pets, I have taken animals here to help. In fact, 3 dogs and 2 cats and a kitten if memory serves. I'm sitting in a room at Banfield with my friend's dog and the intelligent Doctor Freeberg. They accurately diagnosed in one of the dogs with a skin condition, helped maintain anal gland health in a dog with chronic issues in that area, they prescribe supplicants (as they're prepared to do today), sell quality products that may come in handy. Like pill pockets lol, I'm no good at making dogs take pills so I always get pill pockets so we can skip the fuss and have a happy dog (or kitty!)I can't stress this part enough, the pet plan can be a life saver. Not only do they cover random visits or dental visits but it helps in the situation where you need a price break. I wish so wholeheartedly that I knew of these guys when my mieu (my dog) was diagnosed with a pyometra (spelling?). I took my mieu bear to vca, they told me she's just old. I didn't believe them so I took her to dove Lewis, where I was asked to pay close to 8,000 dollars to save her. I'd pay 10k but alas, I didn't have the funds, they told me to put her to sleep. We took our cat in for urinary problems. I started becoming suspicious about the many bills when we left our cat at the office for testing. The only reason she needed to stay in the kennel was so that they could complete a urine catch. Well, instead of testing the urine that they caught, they cleaned up her mess and charged us for the boarding for that day anyway. After spending over $2800 on tests, bladder surgery, and meds, our new vet looked over our bills and assured us that the cost should not have been more than $400, and that most of the tests were unnecessary. Our cat was also badly over-medicated and her body rejected their meds. She was horribly sick for days after every visit because of the meds they told us to give her. But only one vet at Banfield seemed to be willing to adjust her meds for her when they learned of how ill she would get. Of course, it meant buying new tests and new medicine. There are good vets here in Portland. Don't let the ""savings"" that the ""Wellness Plan"" touts fool you at Banfield. Read Less

The vets change frequently but I have always felt my pets were well cared for in all cases..100% satisfaction in 95% of those experiences. Read Less

Read Less
