In Dec. 2013 we'd just moved to Multnomah Village with our 2 Great Danes and 3 cats and needed a vet, fast, for our older Dane. She'd stopped eating, was miserable. Went to Barbur Vet and got excellent advice, drugs, instructions to taper her off the trank our previous vet prescribed (which may have been causing urinary incontinence and appetite supression) and start her on other pain (arthritis) and psychotropic meds. It worked, she recovered, is now her usual pita self.On return checkup visit, we asked that the vet/vet tech do toenail clips on this old Dane. It resulted in blood and pus all over the floor - bad fungal infection! They kept her for several hours to make sure everything drained. Again, serious meds and the infection was cleared up in less than 2 weeks. All of this was VERY EXPENSIVE! For example, we took in our oldest cat for teeth cleaning. They did full lab work, exam, etc. - over $180 just for the exam/lab. They gave us an estimate of $1000 (plus or minus ~$100) for a single cat's teeth cleaning!! We took her to our old vet in St. Helens (who has, unfortunately, since retired) who did an excellent job for $108. I just added up the bills for the last 4 months: $947 - 4 visits, one of which was a followup with nothing except a quick exam. So, bottom line. Expensive excellent care for medical problems. Teeth cleaning cost is way way out of line. Staff and vet are highly competent and caring. They were great with our old scared cat - let her find a bookshelf cubbyhole to hide in and put a towel over the opening to help her feel secure.I highly recommend this vet for any medical problem. I'll probably look for a cheaper alternative for routine care - teeth cleaning, shots, etc.Five stars for medical care; 1.5 stars for cost of routine care. Read Less
