Up until now, I've been happy with this clinic. They seemed to care about my dog and listen to me. My Lady was my life. She was everything to me. She passed away after Xmas and we chose to take her to gateway vet as we did in life. She really liked one tech in particular who always commented on how she looked just like her old dog. If I had known my baby's ashes would be sealed inside an ugly cardboard box that looks as if it came from dollar tree, I would have taken her elsewhere. This is disgusting and disrectful! No one told me she would be in a cardboard box. My cat's ashes are in a wooden one that I can paint. I can take a couple screws out if I want to spread his ashes somewhere and still have a memorial for him. I would have to completely demolish this ugly thing to do that for my Lady. I don't want to see her ashes and have no plans on spreading them for the foreseeable future. This is heartbreaking all over again! I felt relief when I got my kitty home; I just feel pain and disgust that my last baby is put in a cardboard box. They didn't even take a pawprint and they said they would! I wish I would have taken her elsewhere. Read Less

Dr. Dahlquist and his staff are the BEST. I took my two French bulldogs here, the staff were so friendly and caring. For both exam fees, rabies shots, and to have blood work and diagnosis done on a lump on my one bully's back, and my other bully's breathing issue looked into, it cost me just about $190. The prices are reasonable, and the staff isn't trying to up sell you products, they only care about your animals health and well being. They will be our new permanent vet. I said, I've been his mom for 11yrs and we have OUR language worked out to where "alright" means "that's enough." he then proceeded to roughly scratch Nikko on his butt area, which is a sensitive spot!! Nikko snapped at him, then he tried again and he snapped w the vets aggressive petting. The vet then grabbed the muzzle whipped it on him and latched it with out even measuring his snout size. IT WAS WAY WAY WAY TOO TIGHT!!! He then picked Nikko up at arms length away, and taunted him saying "I'm bigger then you, I'm bigger than you!" he dropped him on the counter, then picked him back up, and Nikko started to shit and puss all over him. The vet put him down and Nikko immediately started frantically trying to take off the muzzle, as if he was being suffocated. I ked if we could loosen it, and the vet said nope! Just had the absolute worst fucking vet visit(7/1/2015) I have EVER EVER EVER taken my Nikko to in the 11years I have loved him. The short fat bald asshole vet (Dr. Matt Belquist) knocked loudly, which made my chihuahua bark.  He then came into the the room, I tried to calm my dog down by saying " Alright alright" then the vet gave me this buckshot psychobabble about how me telling him "alright" is interpreted by MY dog as it's OK to bark and growl. I said, I've been his mom for 11yrs and we have OUR language worked out to where "alright" means "that's enough." he then proceeded to roughly scratch Nikko on his butt area(did not let him sniff him, just went straight for his butt),which is a sensitive spot!! Nikko snapped at him, then he tried again within seconds of the first attempt and he snapped again w the vets aggressive petting. The vet then grabbed the muzzle whipped it on him and struggled to get the clasp to click, he did it with out even measuring his snout size. IT WAS WAY WAY WAY TOO TIGHT!!! He then picked Nikko up at arms length away as he was squirming, and taunted him by saying "I'm bigger than you, I'm bigger than you!" Nikko squirmed out of his hands and he DROPPED him on the counter(Nikko tried to regain balance), then the vet picked him back up, and Nikko started to shit and piss all over the vet. The vet put him down on the examining table and Nikko immediately started frantically trying to take off the muzzle, as if he was being suffocated. I asked if we could loosen it, and the vet said NO! He held the muzzle clasp in his hand and had Nikko half way dangling(with both front paws off the exam table) and said "you can leave if you want,"  I said YES I"M LEAVING, he unclasped the muzzle and my dog fell back down on all fours. He is panting so hard rt now in the car. I will be writing a yelp review as well as any suggestions y'all might have so that never happens to another pet.***That was my Facebook post before I even left the parking lot of this hell hole!!I will be filing a complaint with the Veterinary Medical Examining Board, as well as making as many pet parents aware of how he treated my dog!  THERE IS NOT ONE STANDARD OF CARE, ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL!!!  The vet tech (Rebecca) was very nice, let Nikko smell her, asked for my assistance with taking his heart rate and anal temperature.  She was accommodating to my senior, hot(my car doesn't have A/C, and we drove from Interstate and Rosa Parks area) chihuahua.  If you think of all the chihuahuas you know, how many of them don't have some kind of sass?  How many are one owner dogs and usually don't let you pet them?  You have to slowly ease into petting one.  All breeds need certain accommodations, and the vet should have taken a different approach and not gone with the Napoleon syndrome bullying.  Maybe my dog had a bigger penis than him, and that angered him from the beginning?I am a PSU student, and I have never in my 30 years of life written a yelp review, but when a dipshit fucks with MY dog and treats him the way he did, I want as many dog/pet parents to know about this place, and stay away if possible. I am also filing a complaint with the Veterinary Medical Examining Review board! Read Less

Your not a number, your a member of the family.  Dr. D has always made sure I was an educated pet owner and dosent push things that aren't necessary.  He is excellent with exotics and a terrific surgeon.   If your looking for the best " bang for your buck" and the quality of your pets life is minuscule;  then there are plenty of places that can't wait to treat u like a number!   But Not me and my kiddos.. we will take the health care that's on the path to the quality of their life! The staff at the office is extremely friendly. I did have a bad experience when I got my dog Shorty fixed. They let me know that she might already be in heat in which case the procedure is double the price because the dog is more at risk (so they were going to charge me $240 instead of $110). They called me later that day after I dropped her off and let me know that she is in heat and the fee will be higher. I could hear my dog screaming in the background and the first thing she said to me is we have some bad news. Not such great service, my heart almost jumped through my throat. I paid the extra money and my dog ended up completely fine. Now three four months later I did get three months behind on my bill and they sent me to collections. I tried calling and offering to pay whatever necessary to bring it up to date (my card number had changed and I just kept forgetting to call them). However they are saying I need to pay for the full 12 months of the wellness plan before I can reestablish service. Even thought I only used seven months of it. So I need to pay the other 5 months for absolutely nothing at all and then setup a new plan for another twelve months? Needless to say that will not be happening. I will pay what I owe and be done and NEVER return. BEWARE! Read Less

I recently was looking for a vet to take my rescue mama dog to. She was 58ish days pregnant and I wanted one final well check done prior to her whelping. I sent Gateway Vet Hospital an email, inquiring about their exams, fees and if they had any specials for new clients. After reading some great reviews online I figured that they would be a fantastic place to take my dog to! I got an email back stating that they do not do free initial exams and what they normally charge, and they recommended I go to Banfield. I absolutely do not like Banfield as I have had many bad experiences there and shared with Dr Dahlquist my experience there. I will quote our emails from here:Dr Dahlquist to me (after I stated my recent experience with Banfield, see my review on the one in West Linn/Lake Oswego area): You would not like us either.  Science Diet is  not  "loaded with fillers" - there is dietary fiber -which you value in your breads, cereals and other sources - and likely pay extra for "an excellent source of fiber!".  The "best" foods are not gluten free, grain free or corn free.  There is a lovely Science article on dog genetics that discusses that wolves have 2 genes for carbohydrate metabolism and dogs have upto 30. RAW diets  are universally cited as incomplete and hazardous by veterinary nutritionists (with an actual PhD in animal nutrition). AHAA (American animal hospital association) and the AVMA advise against.  The grain free stuff is idiocy based on personal philosophy and no science or phylogenetic understanding of what dogs came from (think coyotes not wolves). I then replied stating that my dog had obvious allergies to the additives (corn, grain soy etc) and that feeding her RAW (with much help and support and dietary information from many people and resources) had turned her completely around. I then sent him information from the PetFoodAdvisor website regarding the ingredients to Science Diet. This was his response:Get off NaturalNews and Realpharmacy bull**** sites.Needless to say, I will NEVER be coming there with my animals. I was treated HORRIBLY by this vet and am shocked that he thinks he can get away with this!!! Granted, after he spoke so horribly to me I called him a bull headed jerk and other names, but this is absolutely ridiculous! Makes me wonder how he treats his clients behind closed doors. Read Less

P.s. all the complaints about the doctor are ridiculous, he's an awesome vet who just has a dry sense of humor. The short fat bald white asshole vet came into the the room, gave me this buckshot psycobabble about how me telling him "alright" is interpreted by MY dog as it's ok to bark and growl. He held the muzzle clasp in his hand and had Nikko half way dangling and said "you can leave if you want." I grabbed my Love and we were out. He is panting so hard rt now in the car.

Read Less
