Ive been to several vets with my pets, and this BY FAR is the BEST vet I have EVER been to! My dad and grandma have taken their pets to this vet for years and love them. When another vet fixed my cat wrong, NE Halsey was quick to fix him right and give him everything he needed!! Love this place. One reason I wished I hadn't moved to Idaho. They took care of my dog as if he was their own. Brooke is an exceptional employee there. Heck, they are all great! As people have mentioned in other reviews, the receptionists here can be a little off their game at times, but never been too big a problem for me over the many years (off and on) I've been coming here. I've never had a bad vet here. They're always kind and willing to answer questions and they will work with you on different options for different budgets. My dogs have been here several times now. So far, I am fine with the quality of the service. My dogs seem to accept their fate and now understand where we are going. The staff is friendly and helpful. Never had a concern while there, setting up an appointment, or having my babies checked out. Everything explained and directions kept simple for me. Love you guys and your staff excerpt for the young gal with the long black hair that sits up front. The other gal Kendra is always smiling and very nice and calming the other gal rarely smiles and has a way about her that is just unpleasant and she needs to learn to apologize instead of saying things like oh I am sorry you feel that way. Instead she should have said I am sorry I upset you how can I make it better. The lady I talked to at the front desk and on the phone was wonderful, but honestly that'd all this place had going for it. First off, they tell me that they put me in for 2:45 so naturally i get there early. When I get there I call them to let them know I am here (they wanted to take me in through a pecial entrance because these cats were recently adopted so they didn't want to possibly spread any shelter things) and they tell me my appointment is at 3, and they wanted me here at 2:45 so that I could fill out paperwork. On that same call they say they'll send someone out and I have to sit out in the sun for what feels like forever before they even come and get me. Once they get their weight, the vet came in and handles them kind of harshly. One of my cats hadn't been eating very much, so she prescribed these fluid injections (which have made her so lethargic to say the least), and says she'll send me home with some special food for her. Now, I understand inflections in language and the way she said it made it sound like "I'm going to give you some complimentary cans of food to help." Nope, I paid almost $5 for only 2 cans which I thought was very steep pricing. Anyways, the entire process was just horrible, and I feel as though I over payed and one of my cat got some things she didn't need (she hasn't vomited since the first day but still said she was going to give her an anti nausea fluid). And money isn't the thing that frustrated me, because I would do anything to keep them healthy, it was that they don't say "hey, are you alright if I give her this fluid? It's $30 plus we'll charge you $30 for me to administer too." Love the receptionist, but will most likely not be back for the vet. Read Less

I moved to the area around 7 months ago and was hesitant to switch vets,  but I've been buying my cat food here the entire time and have always enjoyed the staff here.  Very welcoming,  professional,  and helpful.  Well alas, my cat dinasaur (*his name is spelled wrong on purpose) came down with an eye infection and couldn't get in to see my normal vet across town, and halsey east worked him in last minute.   Just to give a brief history on my cat,  he's very aggressive when taken to the vet,  he's always had to be put under gas sedation previously,  but this time he did not.   The vet and technician were able to handle him without the use of sedatives like total pro's.   I was so impressed and thankful he could get in with no problems.  Upon checkout,  i was pleasantly surprised to get out of there paying under $100, which included his visit, medicine, and food.  Never felt guilted into extra exams,  vaccinations,  etc. I have no hesitation giving this clinic 5 stars, from the front desk being so professional and being able to accommodate me and my kittybear last minute,  to the vet and technician being able to handle my cat without the need for sedation and showing my kitty such good care. Wonderful experience,  such a breath of relief to know going to the vet doesn't have to be such a stressful experience,  at least for me.   Dinasaur is still a little grumpy,  but that's par for the course in his case.  Thanks again to everyone at halsey east,  you've officially got a new client. Great place to take your pet. They are very caring. A little expensive but I'm still getting used to the high cost of vet care in Portland so they might be normally priced for this town. The clinic is very well cared for, inside and out with an up to date and clean facility and very caring vets. The staff there are all very empathetic and friendly as well, except for one of the receptionists who was cold and aloof when it comes to normal conversation. Other then one or two "bruised apples", their customer service is excellent. And it could have been that one of the apples had just been dropped that day and that's why they were so ugly the day I was there.Read Less

Early this morning we were in a terrible spot. We thought Fozzie Bear had his Rabies vaccination and was good to check in at the airport at 8 a.m. What we actually had was proof of another vaccine. His expired at the end of March. Halsey East could have turned us away like Banfield chose to do, even though they were his actual vet. Instead they helped someone in need that they had never seen. This is a great clinic. It's large and very clean, and the staff is helpful and friendly. Dr. Vidos shows a genuine tenderness and concern for the animals and really seems to know her stuff. I switched primary care for my dog Apollo to this clinic about a year ago, and they have been wonderful. My pet has had a string of odd conditions and random injuries / illnesses, and they have taken supremely great care of him. The medical staff is very knowledgable and highly professional, and give highly comprehensive explanations when things get complicated. I love his doctor and the staff is so friendly and wonderful. When extra problems have popped up that would be unexpectedly much more expensive after being given a quote, they always compromise a fair price (without having to even be asked!) so that we aren't blindsided with a suddenly-massive bill. it's a very nice, clean, idyllic clinic with a great staff who are genuinely concerned about the wellbeing of people's pets -- i've witnessed this firsthand not just with my own pet but with others. i can't say enough about this clinic. My dog was with a clinic for several years that, when it changed ownership, went from being a family-like feeling i was in love with to outright dismissive and rude treatment. the care between the two clinics overlapped slightly, and Halsey east was far above and beyond what we had come to expect from his previous primary care. Do not ever bring your pet here. I brought my cat in for an emergency exam for being attacked by a coyote.  Dr Noel did not complete the exam they claimed my pet was in too much pain to feel the multiple lacerations on his back. His spine was almost coming through his back. They did X-rays which I was okay with I also paid for a radiologist to interpret the X-rays   No one ever called back to even check on him. When I talked to the manager about why no one had ever called me about the X-rays they said it was because I took my pet to his regular vet. What did I pay for then , they said they would mail be the radiographs to review them. I am not a radiologist that is what I paid for. They will not refund my exam fee or the interpretation of X-rays. This place has terrible quality vet service. I will never go here again. Next stop is BBBAddition: they ended up sending me a check for the radiographs. Read Less

What a great place! Doggie daycare is done in small groups with many people to supervise. I feel safe knowing my dog is in a healthy environment getting proper training. I also love Dr. Capper, she has seen my itchy mutt and was very helpful. Over the counter remedies? Yes please!! Go here if you want to be charged for things that your pet does NOT need or if you want your dying pet to die!  My husband brought his pet in here when he was on his death bed and the vet did unnecessary tests and to be pushed out and said you need to go to another clinic because I don't have time for you!  As soon as he took the pet to OHS - all they had to do was a palpitation and knew right away that he had a blockage (cats toy) and rushed him into surgery.  He was home in 6 days healthy and back to normal!! What a great clinic! My girl ate through a bottle of Dayquill and was headed toward liver failure. Halsey helped me find the medication I needed for her for $20 for two vials, the emergency hospital wanted $80 per vial. What a nice thing to do! Plus, my poor sick dog was hospitalized for two days (I took her home at night) and was excited to see Dr. Vockert BOTH days. This is a one of a kind place. Read Less

We have a chihuahua and does not like anyone but myself, my husband and our son but they have worked wonders and even held our "big" Louie! I recently moved and had to decide on whether I wanted my cat to yowl for a 35 minute drive to my old vet or take him less than a minute away down the street, within walking distance. I chose to not stress him out more. I'm happy that I did too! We took our cat Oscar here for a routine check up, vaccines, and a little extra weight we wanted to work on getting off of him. I saw Dr. Vidas and was very pleased. The front desk and vet tech/assistants were so friendly and outgoing. The Doc left no questions unanswered and even emailed me to make sure I had all the information I needed on diets and getting a few pounds off our little guy. There was no "animal" smell that some clinics have. I also liked that the room they took our cat in had the pheliway diffusers. The pheromones to help calm animals. I think they actually worked because this guy is usually very shy around strangers but was all over the place flirting with the tech and Dr. Vidas. At the end of our appointment he was purring in my lap not even phased by the visit. Price was not outrageous but I think when it comes to our pets we are willing to pay a little extra for quality care. Read Less

All I can say is...if you want your animal in the BEST hands you must see Dr Vidos!!! She is, by far, one of best veterinarians in the state, country for that matter :). Veterinarians and technicians are great. Administrate staff has little patience and can very very rude. Now that our regular veterinarian has switched clinics seems like I'll be looking for another vet. **This review was temporary at 3 stars, my experience with the receptionists at this clinic gets worse with every visit**I had brought my dog in for a first time visit. Being a first time pet owner I didn't really know the process. Most of the staff was quite friendly. There was some miscommunication, and I didn't like the lack of guidance or the judgmental tone when I questioned some of the charges. I had provided a print out of all the information I had on my adopted puppy at the very first visit so they would know what needed to be done. Since he had kennel cough I was forced to return after he was well for the vaccinations. Not ideal but it was good advice. When I called back a month later to schedule a revisit for the vaccinations the admin (again) quite rude in answering my questions, asked me repeatedly to provide information I had already (over the phone and hard copies). They were able to accommodate a last minute appointment (within 48 hrs) so that was a plus but the customer services for the price of this place was very mediocre. I've gotten better customer service at a fast food drive through. Which is what she made it seem like when she couldn't even tell me what vaccinations were remaining. Being a first time owner I relay on the staff and vet to help me understand what is going on with my puppy. The vet seemed decent but the service in general gave me the impression they don't look into each dog's medical history before treating and that doesn't sit we'll with me... If she wasn't qualified to answer my questions it would've behooved her to transfer to someone that could help. Read Less

We have been bring our pets to Halsey East Animal Clinic since 1979. The best services available. Highly caring & compassionate. We just took our dog in & found she has terminal cancer. We thought she would have only a couple of days. Dr Vockert gave her a treatment of some things to stimulate her apatite, re-hydrate her & generally make her feel better. We know this is just temporary but it has given us a week & she is better now than she had been in several weeks. I have taken pets to many veterinary clinics over the years and never found one as special as Halsey East. Every person who works here is friendly, caring and loves your animal. They will do their best to accomodate you on short notice. Dr. Vockert is a very competent surgeon and if he doesn't think he has the expertise needed, he will refer you. The other veterinarians are wonderful too. By the time your pet leaves the clinic, you will say "I am never going to another veterinary clinic!" The fees are comparable to other clinics, and this clinic is new, spacious, and state of the art.Read Less

Amazing place to bring your animals, of any age. My neighbors have brought their animals there for 30+ years, and last year.. We started taking my dog. We had taken him to 5 other vets to find out what was going on and why he was loosing his fur. Everyone we took him to, said it was fleas w/o even touching my dog. But Dr. Vockert actually touched my dog, ran tests, etc. We ended up with three kinds of medication to give my dog, could only afford two of the three... So Dr Vockert thankfully gave us donated medicine and charged us $1 for a month supply. Amazing! I've started taking my cat there too! She was just spayed, and not the easiest of cats to handle.. But even though she hissed at the staff when they walked by, they still treated her with the utmost respect. Read Less

I called on a friday morning after my cat was having trouble breathing the night before. They were able to get me in as a new client within an hour of me calling. I saw Dr Karen Vidos who spent the appointment time with me and discussing my cats case and our treatment options. She spoke to me like a person and not like an idiot. Explained the pros and cons of treatments and the cost involved. Hands down, I would recommend this clinic to anybody with a cat or dog. I had taken all my pets to Halsey east for years, and many pets had done well under the care of the old doctor Vocker. Then I brought in my nearly blind kitten, (new to the house) and the new owner Stephen Vocker convinced me to have a very expensive surgery done on the cat. Later one of the other vets let me know this surgery very little hope in helping my cat but the owner had read about this procedure and really wanted to try it. Since then he has suggested other very expensive and experimental surgerys. I am now after 20 years shopping for a new vet. His staff is wonderful, the prices are moderate, the groomer is the best, but DO NOT LET THE OWNER work on your animal. Read Less
