Take my bunny there to get his teeth ground. They're fast and he's always happy afterward, it's always too expensive to get them trimmed $75 but it's a good place

First class care and honest pricing. I recently made the decision to have my 15+-year-old Boston Terrier's teeth cleaned. My decision was made based on a very thorough discussion with Dr. Darcy Smith. She presented clear pros and cons, leaving the ultimate decision to me. My boy came through beautifully even after several necessary extractions. Specific aftercare instructions were provided, and I was even given Dr. Smith's cell number if I needed to contact her after hours. Unbelievable. Each staff member is professional and knowledgeable in their specific field, from the tech to the receptionist. They've really got it down, which virtually eliminated all of my anxiety. I was totally taken care of. The ultimate cost, in my case, was nearly 40% less than the estimate. As a fellow animal care provider, I would not hesitate in recommending this veterinarian practice. This place is awesome. We found an injured animal today and called SO many places to find it some care. Everyone was full or not taking them in, except this place! They were so polite and caring and took the animal in immediately. We don't know what will happen to it, but we sure are glad they really care about animals. If you live in the West Salem area, I recommend this place just out of the pure dedication they have to helping animals. Thanks so much, guys! We'll be sure to mention you to anyone we know looking for a vet in the Salem area. :) Read Less

I have an Amazon parrot that I've owned for almost 30 years.  I have recently moved to Salem and was looking for an exotic bird vet that would clip his flight feathers and talons.  Oak Hills would do this only after a $75 exam PLUS the cost of any lab tests they deemed necessary.  The cost of the grooming would be another $25 or more depending on the time it took them.  I had the wings and nails trimmed for $20 somewhere else. My boyfriend was looking for a place to get his cat, Quake neutered for a while. We live across the street from this place. I thought we should check out this place and see their prices on spay/neuter. We went inside and talked with the receptionist. She seemed friendly- willing to communicate with us through paper & pen since we were deaf. My boyfriend went ahead & asked her the estimated price on the spay/neuter. The receptionist did mention that she wasn't sure but she said it is about $200. My eyes almost popped out. I told my boyfriend I got my cat, Fuse spayed combined with adoption fee, microchipping, etc for way less! So, no way! We just smiled and told her we would contact her when we decide if we want to get Quake neutered at that place. I know everyone wants the best for their pets but I think you guys would be just fine if you guys got your pets spayed/neutered at the Willamette Humane Society. It's way more affordable and they have the same quality of vets in there as any other vet clinics. Our Quake was just fine when we got him neutered at WHS. :) Read Less

When I moved into the area, a friend recommended I check out this clinic for my animals.  The receptionists, techs, and doctors have all been quite friendly, and it's obvious that they genuinely like my little pooch, which makes me very happy.  Cost of services is reasonable too.A few things are a little off though.  First, they're REALLY pushy about vaccines.  I used to be a vet tech and I don't vaccinate my dog against kennel cough.  The tech I spoke to acted like this was some sort of horror and kept bringing it up.  I overheard her talking to the staff in the back about it too.  Oh horror!Second, there was a really neat reptile poster on one of the exam room walls, so I mentioned to one of the vets that I was a big reptile lover and he said "Ugh, why?", then went on to tell me how he's phased them out of his practice so he doesn't have to see them anymore.  Rude much?  I was pretty taken aback. In spite of those two things, I was overall happy with the care my dog received here and I will be back. I moved to Salem recently and I needed to find a vet for my dog. First she had an ear infection and, knowing no one but wanting to find a well-respected vet, I saw the several good reviews here for Oak Hills. I took my dog in and what would normally have cost $65-$100 at her previous vet was $300 at Oak Hills. There was nothing unusual about this ear infection. A few days later, my dog broke a tooth and was in great pain. Knowing she needed to be seen immediately, I returned to Oak Hills where I was told I had to take her to a dental specialist first. I did so and when I was told the only treatment option was extraction for that tooth and one other and that it would cost $1200 I returned to Oak Hills to see what they would charge. Ha! $1000-$1200!!! Fortunately, I am not so far away from her previous vet that it would not be worth it to make the trip back there for the surgery. I did so and it was SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive ($500). In short, the techs at Oak Hills are great and I felt the vets were very competent and thorough. Unfortunately, in this economy, their services are prohibitively expensive. I will continue my search for quality veterinary care at a reasonable cost.Read Less
