I love Vitality. I bring my two pups here from North Salem because they have the friendliest staff and are incredibly responsive to questions and requests for appointments. Plus, the doggos love it because there is an unending supply of treats in the waiting room and in the exam rooms. Even the male vet techs (my dogs are typically nervous around men) get all the love from my dogs because of their friendly demeanor and gentleness with the dogs. Read Less

They can be helpful and I have been over all happy with the care my pets have received here. Sometimes I feel like some of the staff do not know much beyond basic check up procedures very well. There are two reliable vets here. When I did not visit one of the two for a problem I had to revisit until I saw one of the two to find out what was actually wrong. The other vets mostly told me they did not know and had me return later. This happened on more than one occasion. Also be sure to go through all the paperwork with the vet if a pet is going to have surgery. (Which is a good idea to do for any surgery) Read Less

I had been taking my pets there for a couple of years and now they wont see me because my cocker spaniel was overdue to have her puppies and the vet told me if my dog needed a 'C' section i would have to have the money up front or my dog and her puppies would have to die ! My 19 year old granddaughter was with me and could not believe how cold hearted the veterinary doctor was. I held back from saying much accept that how many dogs die because some people do not have that much money on hand to pay all of it right away ?. The vet lady doctor would not give a direct answer but choose to deny my pets any further care there. Please do not take your pets to this clinic as they do not care about the health and well being of your beloved animals. They only care about the money. I will be posting this on social media as well. If there is a written response to this by the clinic , you probably should tell the truth. Now here comes thier response full of lies...wait for it...see..i knew this vet would rewrite her answer ! My cockers are well taken care of. The have thier shots because i give then theirs..except the Rabies ! You offered no help seeing how upset i wasvwhen my precious lucy was needing a C section. The smirk on your face was like someone ate a sour grape. You shouldnt lie about people who pay your living ! Whybdont youvtell the public what a crappy uncaring vet you are ??? Yeah..i didnt think so. Read Less

I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!! I had a horrible experience taking my healthy Persian cat in for the "Spa day" package. The price quoted over the phone changed drastically in person when I showed up to my appointment. They said it was due to a new person working the phones. They did agree to honor the price after talking to additional staff. Then 5 hours later; 45 minutes before my scheduled pick up time, I got a call from them wanting to sedate my cat with a high fee due to my cat scratching and being upset. I said that's impossible my cat is de-clawed and Do Not sadate my cat, I will not pay additional charges. They said no work was done and that I should just come pick her up ASAP.They did not bathe or brush her, they sent her home dirtier then when she was brought in. They shaved her in patches and avoided any and all matts that needed to be cut, most of them could have just been brushed out.I wish they had not touched my poor cat. They had her wrapped in a towel when they handed her to me and tried to hide the "free of charge" nasty job they did to my cat. I now need to take her somewhere else to get this fixed. This place was rude and treated me and my poor cat horribley. Very unprofessional staff they should not get away with treating animals or people like this!!! Read Less

I have to agree with a couple other people with comments about staff and hygiene. One lady that i started with the first time I came looked like she had not brushed her hair in days. Had huge knots in the back. Another guy looked like he just walked out of a heavy metal band. They did some blood work on my dog and said they would trim her nails too (which I appreciated) but when we got home she was limping because they cut to the quick. Also I agree with the person that said they felt pressured to pay more money and buy lots of extra things. Β I felt the same way. Also I think their Spay fees were outrageous. If I could give one star, I would. I wish I'd paid more attention to the reviews on here as well as on Yelp (including those "hidden") because I'm now another dissatisfied ex-customer. Suffice it to say that Dr. Amy Sachs is incredibly rude, and this facility is in business to up-sell you and bully you into things that aren't necessary. And more than that, they LIE to get you to agree. When I was reviewing the estimate with Stetson (vet tech), I questioned a $33.83 Cerenia Injection line item. He said it was to help my dog stop vomiting. When I balked at the price, he said that it would last a week, which would give my dog enough time to recover from her nausea and start eating again. I asked why we couldn't just do a pill since the pills are around $3 each. He emphasized that the injection was better and again repeated that it would last a week. So I said yes. The vet then tells me that it only lasts 24 hours. When I ask them to remove the charge, she bullies and berates me, insisting that it was necessary, and ignoring the fact that I was given misinformation when making my decision. I remind her that I would NOT have said Yes, if I had been told its benefit would have a life of less than 24 hours. She and another tech Phillip stood there and mocked me with their arms crossed. Dr. Sachs said there was "no way" she would reverse the $33.83 on my $311.83 bill. I said I'd be willing to take a partial credit of just $20. She continued to refuse and bully me. She said, "We'll just have to agree to disagree, and I'm not reversing it." I said, "Well, either I pay zero, or I pay $278. It's your choice." She responded, "Okay, I'll reverse the charge but you are no longer welcome here as a patient and should find another vet." Making matters worse, they didn't even diagnose what's wrong with my dog. Dr. Sachs jabbed, "Well if your dog starts vomiting again, she's either terminally ill or she has cancer." WTF? I said, "You told me her blood work came back fine." (I even paid for their most expensive blood panel for $133 because they promised it was comprehensive." Dr. Sachs replied, "Oh we didn't check for cancer. That would be another test for additional money, and we'd also do an xray for another $150." She's rude and cold, and has no place working with animals or pet parents. From what I read on some Yelp reviews (particularly those in the hidden area), I'm not alone in this impression. Oh, and yes, they try to push extras onto you. Do yourselves a favor, there are MANY vets in the Salem area. Pick one. Just not this one. Read Less

I took my dog to this vet for the past 14 years. Every visit they pushed selling and made me feel guilty when I declined things that seemed unnecessary. My dog is now pretty old and her health started to decline. I brought her to Vitality and allowed them to run blood tests and an x-ray as they thought she may have bone cancer and wanted to check her kidney and liver functions before giving her pain medicine for possible arthritis. While they were drawing blood I sat in the waiting room and got to witness the very sad event of two different pet owners coming in minutes apart from each other to pick up their pet's remains. Each lady was visibly sad, yet somehow the tactless receptionist thought it fit to say, "Have a good day" while handing over the small box holding what was left of their pets. I doubt she noticed or cared that those very insensitive words caused more pain to show on their faces than was there when they first walked in. Afterwards I waited for the call regarding the results and when no call came, I finally called them. I was told my dog was having kidney failure and my options were to bring her in for a few days to receive IV fluids or bring her in to put her down when it looked like she was done for. I chose neither. My dog slowly started to get better and here we are four months later and she's still alive. When it does come time for her to be put down, I do not want the people at this place wishing me a good day while handing my sweet dog's ashes to me. I will never bring another pet to this vet. I regret sticking around for the 14 years that we did. Read Less

I didn't get a great vibe from the vet assistant Jason. He reeked of cigarettes. Turns out my cat didn't care much for him either. I felt he was unnecessarily rough with my cat to give her vaccinations. He scruffed her roughly and it was hard enough to make me uncomfortable. She even tapped his face to let him know she was upset. If I held her it would have been much better (however I understand why they have the techs do it...for the safety of the doctor and so they can have proper needle placement). The doctor was nice but I did not feel valued as a client and my cat did not receive pampered care at all. I don't know the doctor's name (she didn't introduce herself) The girl at the front desk barely acknowledged me coming or going she was on the phone. I will have to find another vet. This will not be the place to care for my kitty. I had high hopes. Read Less

We have received wonderful care for our pets for years at Vitality Pet Hospital in South Salem. Prior to the name change it was Companion Pet Clinic. No one ever wants to frantically search for emergency pet services. Unfortunately we experienced this awful situation a couple days ago with our dog.To make a long story short, our dog was attacked and needed help, fast. She had been bitten on the neck and ear area and shaken aggressively for a few seconds. I did a Google search and after calling the VCA (who could not accept our dog because they were so busy), Vitality was brought to our attention.I spoke on the phone with the receptionist (who was incredibly kind!) and was told to bring our dog in right away. Once we got in, our doggy got looked at and was cared for by the vet techs. We were told in detail what they had noticed about our dog's injuries and provided us with a detailed estimate of all costs for her care. Although pricey (hey, it was an emergency), we did not hesitate in getting her treated. The vet techs told us the pros and cons of the surgery they were going to do to our dog, and told us exactly what needed to be done. We left our dog at Vitality for a few hours and was told we would receive a call before they closed (6pm) to pick her up. 5:55pm rolls around and I give them a call. I hate to be one of those annoying helicopter dog owners, but I wasn't sure. Turned out our dog was ready to be discharged, would have been nice to know. Our dog is great right now, has her medication and her stitches look in top shape. We are going back tomorrow afternoon for a check up (with some good news about her recovery I am sure)!

I have to agree with a couple other people with comments about staff and hygiene. One lady that i started with the first time I came looked like she had not brushed her hair in days. Had huge knots in the back. Another guy looked like he just walked out of a heavy metal band.

He was nice enough but a one track mind of trying to sell me more and more. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? I hope so, because that's not the way to treat pets and their very caring parents. I just left Vitality about 1 hr ago with my little ol' grumpy puppy. I am SO grateful for their kindness, attention, and explanations and even more relieved by their prices. I love my pup and want him to be as healthy as possible in his senior years. But it can be hard to give your pet all he needs when the service providers are super expensive and unfriendly. Even though my pup can be hard to deal with, they were so gentle and they were gentle on my wallet. I am new to Salem and was so nervous to take Jaxson to another vet but I am so relieved to have found them. Thank you, thank you, thank you Vitality Pet Clinic!!! Read Less

We've been taking our animals (three dogs and a Persian) to Vitality Pet Hospital for years and we just love the Vets along with their entire staff there.. They truly care about the animals and the people that cross their paths. In the past, they've seen us through the deaths of our beloved pug, Mugsie and our Persian baby, Simba. We've received phone calls from so many of their staff, which I consider lovely "after care". It's their personal touch that makes us feel like they are part of our family and we would never consider bringing our pets any place else! Simone and family Read Less

We think Vitality Pet Hospital is a great place! We have been customer's for years and years and have always been well pleased with the Vets and the Vet Tech's. All are professional and also really caring. We have a dog that loves to go there even when she has had surgery on her knee and various other issues which would make you think that she would hate the place. Our cats have also been treated with good care and kindness- as have we. We couldn't recommend it more highly!! Read Less

Have been taking my cats & other pets to Vitality for 12 years. In that time they have saved 2 of my cats lives & done many surgeries. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable & willing to help in any way they can. I would tell anyone I know to take their pets there for care & even for boarding. They always call to check on my pets after I have taken them in & a vet always calls if I have any questions or concerns. I love that they always remember my cats names (I have 7) & any health issues they have had in the past. Read Less

We have received wonderful care for our pets for years at Vitality Pet Hospital in South Salem. Prior to the name change it was Companion Pet Clinic. We have seen many improvements under the ownership of Dr Surroz. Love the follow up phone calls and the real concern for the well being of our pets, and us. The doctors, techs and support staff have more than met our requirements of professional care for our pets. The new system of making an appointment has certainly made it much easier to access treatment, but we also have been treated in an emergency situation to our satisfaction. Five Stars to the great staff at Vitality Pet Hospital, keep up the great work. Read Less

Read Less
