They were able to recommend a specialist for my two kittens who have a rare congenital disease and they’ve been very supportive of my choice to pursue treatment, even though it would be at another hospital, rather than recommending euthanasia which I imagine some people would have. We have been a part of the Sherwood Family Pet Clinic extended family since 2006. We moved 20 miles away from the clinic in 2011, and we have not visited another vet with our puggles even once. Whether it’s a routine check up or emergency surgery when your dog eats 8 corn cob centers out of the garbage (😬), they are on top of every situation!!! We will never visit a different vet clinic because they truly care in every instance. This clinic is beyond words in their love and treatment of our dogs! I am a Sherwood Pet Clinic Member as they have been for caring for all of my puppy children for years. That being said, today only reinforced my faith in their ability, while I watched everyone on staff handle my emergency. My two Minnie Dachshunds got into slug bait. After contacting the poison help line and being unable to induce vomiting, I called Sherwood Pet Clinic and was told to just rush them right in. I was met at the door by two assistants, each took one dog straight back to start treatment and I was given a room to speak with another to get the specifics down and to let me know what was happening. Dr Schlimgen then came in to explain what treatment plan the kids were undergoing and why. It was rough, but my pups came home with me today!!! We took our 2 dogs for their annual check ups and vaccinations and brought one of the dogs back for teeth cleaning. They are both professional and friendly. Everyone is so sweet and caring. They really try to do what's best for your pet and keeping cost in mind if you have budget issues. They tell you what is absolutely necessary and what can wait. My dog had two surgeries there for tumor removals and both times went amazingly. Best care and after-care for your pet. My cat had to have all of his teeth removed ($3000+) and when he wasn't healing as planned, I didn't pay for any follow-up care past the cost of new medication. They truly care about your pet. Of course they are a business and want your money, but they are as close to a non-profit as one can get. Knowing I spent so much on the surgery, they worked REALLY hard to make sure my cat was cared for to the best of their ability. I really can't say enough about this team and the peace and comfort they brought me when my 13 yr old cavalier had to be put to rest. Hardest thing I ever had to do. The staff at Sherwood Family Pet Clinic are all so amazing. They care for your pet as their own. They also consider how you as their owner during difficult times. My Great Dane had pneumonia when he was 7 months old, and if it wasn't for the quick thinking and actions of Dr. Rains and Dr. Schlemgen, who know what would have happened to my puppy. He's now a healthy happy 9 month old with no problems from the pneumonia. I'm so grateful for them. The staff is wonderful too. My family has been going to Sherwood Family Pet Clinic off and on for the past 7 years or more and they have always been so helpful and courteous! A year and a half ago our beloved dog Rocko broke his leg, he's a miniature pincher chihuahua mix, so you can imagine how small he is. All the tiny toothpick sized bones in his paw were broken!! We took him to Sherwood Family Pet Clinic straight away. The way they treated my dog was unbelievable!! The staff are all so awesome!! Dr Merrill performed a surgery on my dog that he hadn't done in over 10 years, but he never wavered once, he was very confident that my dog would come out of this almost as if the break had never happened!! Not only were we worried about how Rocko's recovery would be, but we were worried and stressing out over paying for the surgery and after care!! Again, the staff was so understanding and sympathetic to our situation. I strongly believe that if I would have taken my dog anywhere else, that the results would not be the same, the quality of care would not be the same and the treatment from the staff wouldn't have been the same. I have been taking my pets to Sherwood Family Pet Clinic since 2007. I have been to many vets throughout the years having had many pets in my lifetime. I have never found a vet where I feel so at ease and trust that they are doing what is right for my pets health over anything else. The staff and vets are very caring and compassionate people. My dog,3 cats,and 2 other cats and a dog who have since passed have all been patients there. They have all been calm and seemed to like the vets. This is saying a lot as I have a very nervous dog and a very grumpy cat. They have even helped with behavioral problems. We adopted a dog slated for euthanasia. She had a LOT of behavioral problems and was very aggressive. They helped us to see she had fear based aggression and get us in touch with a trainer who not only helped us to save her but turn her into a different dog.They are always very accommodating and professional. I recommend them to anyone in need of a vet. I love my furry babies very much and couldn't imagine not taking them there! Read Less

My cats are extremely important to me, so I am very picky about vets.  I've been to the vet clinic in Wilsonville, as well as one in Tualatin, but were not satisfied with either.I've been going to this clinic for about 5 years now, and they've seen my cats through some tricky things including an allergy, some dental problems, some illnesses etc.  In general they've done pretty well, they are always friendly, and they have a pretty good rapport with my cats.  They work well with my pet insurance, and their prices are fairly reasonable.On the downside, they have very high turnover, and their best vets always seem to leave. My pets and I have been going to SFPC since 1999 and I wouldn't look anywhere else for a quality, caring vet clinic.  We've had so many animals go there (ours, strays, rescues, etc.), that my family's file has several volumes!  The doctors and staff have always gone out of their way to make being a client of theirs a really great thing - whether it's answering a simple question (and not making me feel like I'm a bother!), choosing the right kind of pet food, recommending a specialist for serious medical issues, or helping make the emotional decision about when to put a much-loved pet to sleep.  I have a grandma kitty who had been throwing up several times during the day, but I was concerned that putting her in the car to go to the vet would upset her even more.  I called SFPC and Mary - an incredibly caring and gifted member of  its staff - came up to my house on her way home and administered IV fluids to Abby, as that was really all she needed to feel better again.  I've had some people mention that the prices at SFPC sometimes seem a bit higher than other vets, but you have to realize that this clinic is also certified to do many more procedures in-house, so they have the high-tech equipment and skills that make it so you don't have to be sent to a specialist for every little test that may be necessary for your pet's on-going health and well-being.  Not having to take my dogs and cats to numerous other clinics or labs is extremely worth the little extra I may sometimes have to pay here.  If you really care about your animals, this is definitely the vet-clinic staff that you'll be thankful you know on a first-name basis! I drafted a long review of this vet and decided to make it short because I've already discussed my issues with the office manager.  Bottom line, the veterinarians are nice and well qualified.  The staff is friendly and caring.  However, I am no longer taking my pets there because there have been a lot of communication breakdowns.  I also feel that they do not review the costs of the tests they are recommending and it has gotten too expensive for me to continue to take my pets there. OK, I was going to save #400 for my flight to Whitehorse tomorrow on Air Canada.  Please see my Earthwatch Institute ("Climate Change at Artic's Edge").  I also checked the Environment Canada website this morning at it was 25 F in Whitehorse this morning!  So I guess it's time to take one more trip down to Wilderness Exchange to discuss layering one more time!  Gayle does wonder why I sometimes tend towards cold weather trips.....Anyway.....I'm yelping around Portland Oregon this morning (I miss my son and Powell's Books) and here in front of me is the Sherwood Family Pet Clinic owned by Dr. Robert Merrill!  I first met Bob in Kindergarten back in Estherville, Iowa.  We went to school, carried on together, and helped each other out over the years.  And before he decided to attend Iowa State and become a small animal Vet, he raised cattle at his Dad's farm and even got "Grand Champion" a couple times at the Emmet County Fair.  He's also a great snow skier, pizza maven, an ethical and caring human being, and of course a great Veterinarian.I really don't think that your beloved pet could be in better hands. We have been taking all of our pets (3 dogs, 1 cat) to Sherwood family pet clinic for five years.  I swear we have gone like 20 times, due to the fact that one of our dachshunds keeps eating things she shouldn't.  The staff at the front desk are great, and the doctors are great, and very thorough.  They are also good at calling and following up after an incident.  One of our dogs started having seizures and one dr talked me through it on the phone for 20 minutes.  Also if we have to go to the emergency vet in Tualatin, Sherwood clinic will always call us their next business day to check on us.  Those two clinics seem to work really well together.  We have seen multiple doctors and every one of them has been great.  Our dachshund that eats everything LOVES it there, and runs in like she owns the place.  Pretty weird huh?  The other two don't like to go but that's par for the course. :-) Read Less
