Dr. Bartel took care of our dog Loki for many years. When we had to go on trips we would leave them there for lodging and the staff took really good care of him. Unlike most dogs when they smell a vet's office they want to go running back into the car. Not so with Loki he loved it there. When Loki was 15 years old and he started having seizures I took him in to see dr. Bartel because I knew if there was anything to be done for him he would do it. But look he had outlived his natural lifespan largely due to the efforts of dr. Bartel. When he was put down I was allowed to be in the room with him and comfort him dr. Bartel and the staff were compassionate and understanding. I was with Loki until his body went cold and I will never forget leaving him there and the condolences that I received from the staff. I live in southern Oregon now and I've yet to find a veterinarian that cares as much for animals does dr. Bartel does. Read Less

We have used West Hills Animal Clinic since 1990 (4 dogs). Dr. Bartell has a wonderful manner with both people and dogs. He knows that not everyone can afford to spend thousands on their pets, and tries to come up with the most effective yet cost conscious approach. His explanations are easy to understand and comprehensive. He truly cares about his clients, both human and canine, and so do his staff. When we boarded one dog, we had very good luck (happy, clean dog when we returned).  If I ask "what would you do if this was your dog?", I know I will get a candid, caring answer. He is very sensitive to "end of life" issues for pets, and empathetic with pet owners' concerns and sadness. He is the closest vet to our home but there is no reason for us to go anywhere else. We have four pet's so we go here frequently.  Dr. Bartell is really knowledgable and he takes time to talk to you and explain things to you.  He is up to date on medicine and procedures and knows what is the best product for the best price.  Dr. Bartell is almost always available to see my pet's when I have had an emergency and he promptly answers my emails.  His staff is nice and honest, my dogs trust them, even my neurotic dog.  We also board our dogs there when we go on vacation.  The only issues I have are that his hours are minimal and sometimes they do things without giving a fee estimate first.   The most important thing to me however, is that I trust my veterinarian and I trust Dr. Bartell. This place is a great. It's Dr. Bartels's sole practice, and he's a really wonderful vet. We were lucky to have found them shortly before our Boston Terrier developed cancer. The care of the animals is top notch, the vet takes a great deal of time with us to explain things and answer questions, despite having been in practice for decades Dr Bartles keeps up on current veterinary research, and the prices for many procedures are often less then half what we were quoted at larger chain vets. I can't say that this is the world's's best vet, but its certainly the best I've ever found. Read Less

First, I really like Brian Bartels. He is a nice, thorough vet who has taken good care of our dogs. But I am worried about the kennel. I have taken my dogs there for YEARS, and they have been well cared for. But the long time person who ran that program left a few months ago, and the new people know nothing about customer service. Because they are closed Sundays, when I return from vacations or long weekends, I pick my dog up after work on Mondays. Twice in the last two months they've called and told me they were closing early and I had to leave work to go get my dog. Once they called at noon and wanted me to come right away! Their excuse: the office was ""hot."" It was maybe 85 outside. What kind of customer service is that? I work -- I can't just leave the office in the middle of the day to go get my dog! I am not sure if Bartels even knows about this; he is usually very customer-oriented. I am giving them one more chance, and if it isn't fixed, I am changing service providers for both vet and kennel. This is not a cheap service, and I expect more. Read Less
