Our sweet little sphynx kitten managed somehow to cut her tail down to the bone at 9pm on a Saturday night. I'm a vet tech at a local hospital, but we're M-F only so I knew we had to get her into EVH. We brought her in without calling first, the receptionist was so kind and calming in such a stressful situation. They immediately took our baby to the back and assessed her bleeding, gave her a pain relief injection, and did a quick wrap to stop the bleeding. Waiting room had about 4 other clients waiting, we were in a room within 25 minutes. The veterinarian was so knowledgeable and friendly, laid out a clear and concise plan, and made us feel so comfortable leaving our kitten with them for a sedated procedure. She was ready right when they told us she would be and is happy and doing well afterwards. Not to mention the cost of the visit felt extremely reasonable for the quality of care offered (On an emergency basis, no less!) Thank you to EVH staff for your compassionate and skilled care you offer 24/7. Can't recommend them enough. Read Less

Thank you so much Dr. Meg for helping suture up my baby boy Harley and taking such good care of him. I was so uneasy about his outcome of care and your vet assistants as well as yourself helped ease my concerns about his well being, and financially helped me significantly (I never mentioned to you or your staff that I am starting this fall into the nursing program, thus am inquiring a $26,000 debt that has my money ultimately tied up). Thank you so much for your empathy\sympathy, and taking care of the one I consider as my only child! We decided to take him to an emergency vet because we thought it would be faster and we wouldn't have to time to wait for his regular vet, which opens at 8 am. We have waited for more than 2 and a half hours and the vetinarian still hasn't come to see my cat. This is a horrible place and we will not ever be coming back. Our dog had to have surgery yesterday at her regular vet. It was an emergency situation, and her vet doesn’t staff their clinic over night so they highly recommended that we transfer her to EVH to be monitored & be given fluids overnight. The staff was very sweet to her, and kind to us. She was well taken care of over night & looked much better when we picked her up the next morning. It was a scary situation for our pup & us, but she was in good hands. They quoted us $318-$548 for her stay depending on her needs, and her bill came in at $328, I was grateful it was on the low end of their estimate. I hope I don’t need emergency care for my pup again, but if I do, I’m glad EVH is available. Read Less

I will never recommend/ Or come here again. Had to wait for 20 minutes while the lady in the front was "chatting" with another customer about their cat.... while the sign said people with the most needed immediate attention will be helped first, I sat around waiting for cat chat.... Finally just got seen... and they hardly looked at the dog and said they want to keep him for a few hours, and come up with a big quote for $$ already? They haven't even looked at his bite marks. We had to utilize this clinic when our dog was experiencing labor complications in the middle of the night. The first impression I had of the front desk person was unfriendliness, though the vet techs were kind. The whole situation was difficult and while the care our dog received was in the end adequate, there were a few things that in hindsight seemed off, or made me uncomfortable. First, they would not let us see our dog the entire five hours we were there, though I repeatedly asked. I could hear my dog yelping and screaming in pain, yet large amounts of time passed before we were updated. Second, they brought us the puppies that were safely delivered (one puppy was still born) but would not bring out our dog to us until we had paid in full. I was exhausted, as I had been up with my dog all night, and even in my lack of sleep addled mind, I very much left with the impression that our dog was being held back from us intentionally until they knew we could pay. We paid our (high) bill in full and left, grateful that we would never have to return to this place again. Three days later we received a phone call that we needed to either pick up the remains of the still born puppy, or give them our credit card number over the phone to pay for cremation. They even quoted us the "single cremation price" or the 'group cremation price." It was all very tacky. They never mentioned any of this when we were there, they called THREE days after! We live thirty minutes away, we generally plan ahead for trips to the area...yet they called us every single day after this, demanding we pick up the remains immediately, or pay them over the phone to cremate. The general tone was "do this or else," though I have no idea what they think they could actually do as a consequence, if we didn't. When I went to pick up the remains, I was completely ignored, not even acknowledged, by the two front desk ladies for at least twenty minutes, until a vet tech on his way back inside asked if I needed assistance. Long story short: the vet service is ok, the general vibe is money driven, and the customer service is terrible. I very much wish there were more emergency vet options in this area. Read Less

Everyone from the vet techs to the dr were all so wonderful and understanding. They let us take our time with our goodbyes, they were patient and waited for the rest of my family to drive down and say their goodbyes and let us be there with her until the end. They gave us a plaster cast of her paw print to keep and also sent us a card in the mail sending their condolences. That place is Hell! The emotions were cold, and it was just another euthanasia to them. Business as usual. I felt like I was in a Nazi gas chamber with my poor baby. Our very best friend, Shasta, died last night at the Emergency Veterinary Hospital. I say this so you will know that our outcome was not what we wished for. Nevertheless, the staff at EVH was nothing but compassionate, kind, caring, and attentive to our dog and to us from the moment we arrived on referral from our regular vet on Friday afternoon and throughout the whole weekend while Shasta fought for her life and we spent our last days with her. Yes, they did give us an estimate when we arrived so that we would know what to expect and could decide how far we wished to go to save Shasta. And, yes, they do deserve to be paid for services they perform. Even though Shasta stayed for 24 hours more than included in the estimate, the hospital’s costs were still within the estimate. We were in the lobby several times waiting to visit with Shasta and witnessed every sort of horrible accident and illness that you could imagine your pet could suffer from come through the front door. These wonderful folks handled each case with obvious love and care, efficiency and competence. Anyone who reports differently is delusional or just plain nuts. Do not hesitate to bring an animal you love to be cared for in an emergency by these wonderful professionals. That they handle these tough cases day in and day out knowing that a few malcontents have hurt the hospital’s rating is a sad, sad situation. We will always be grateful to them for making the loss of our friend somewhat bearable. Read Less

Our 100-pound husky sustained a terrifying attack from a neighbor's dog, and after going right to the emergency vet, he waited there from 6 pm to 6am without being treated. When I picked him up, he had had a couple of pain injections, but they hadn't even cleaned or irrigated his wounds. It was terrifying to see my healthy, athletic, young animal in shock. I got him to our regular vet when they opened (LOVE Animal Health Associates!) - but he was whimpering in pain, dehydrated because he spent the night preparing for surgery that never happened, and could barely walk. Our vet was shocked at his condition, and worried that because his head wounds had festered for so long, he might lose his ear. He had to be on fluids for five hours before he could withstand surgery, and then they carefully reconstructed our pup's ear. I called the Emergency Vet the next day to discuss matters with their office manager. After some back and forth, we didn't hear anything. We called our credit card company to refuse their charges, and we received a check from EVA. Clearly, they know they failed to provide adequate care for our animal. This community is too large to have only one 24-hour option! Next time, I would take my business to Albany or Corvallis if I had to, rather than risk my furry family members' lives. Read Less

Front desk : unfriendly,  uninviting,  receptionist. It took the receptionist 90 minutes to discharge us as well. Multiple times I was to be call backed, waiting for over an hour twice I had to recall them. I was able to call late at night and get updates, the only positive star about the front desk.Vetenarian: my puppy went into the hospital with a stomach condition. Although they fixed the condition. They decided not to leave a bandage on my puppies open IV wound. Within 5 minutes of leaving there facilitys we had whipped the car around from extreme bleeding. The IV going though his leg was completely opened and he was losing blood quickly. After arriving they took him back, bathed him and sent him with a bandage this team. Why a 9 month old puppy didn't receive proper bandages when discharged ? You tell me. VERY unprofessional. The vet tells me my puppy most likely licked his wound to open it back up. Even if that is true (which it's not) WHY WOULD YOU NOT HAVE A BANDAGE FOR THAT REASON, again unprofessional. I took my best friend to get proper medical help, in the process of helping my puppy they also almost killed him. On top of all that we now have a bloody front seat of our car. Bloody clothes that basically got ruined. Although this is miniscule in size to my puppy health, still very very unprofessional. AVOID IF YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS! Read Less

Horrible service. Absolutely THE worst veterinary clinic I have ever been too. After having to make the very hard decision to put my pup down due to extremely aggressive behavior, and after calling to find out what I needed to do the person I talked to said everything thing would be taken care of and I would just need the people that my dog bit to fill out paperwork to put him down. I drive 2 hours to get to this clinic, the waiting area is packed, one person was complaining at the desk that they were called and had been waiting there for 3 hours to pick up their animal. The lady working at the front desk had no organization and no customer service skills. They ended up telling me they couldn't do it even after I was assured they would. They then say they called the VCA in Eugene and said that "they would be happy to do it"  I drive even further out of my way just to find out that the VCA was never called and they also could not do what I needed. Making a very hard decision even worse, now I have to wait agonizing about the fact that it's just a matter of time before I put my pup down or he bites another person and I get sued... Read Less

I didn't want to go to this place because I've heard stories about how ridiculously expensive they are, but after calling several other vets open on weekends who couldn't see my cat, I had no choice.  They vets I spoke to informed me his condition sounded serious and I needed to take him to emergency vet right away.  Overall my experience was pretty good.  The receptionist and the vet I spoke with were very informative and caring.  They ran tests on my cat and gave me some meds for him.  I was there for about 2 hours on a Saturday morning, and my bill came out to a little over $300, which was actually less than I was expecting.  About a $100 of that was for an exam fee and an emergency fee, so be aware you will spend a base price of $100 at this place. Had a terrible experience with the front desk staff here- to the point where I will never bring my dog back here. They were so rude at a time where I was very emotional about a condition with my dog, and it was after hours so I was unable to contact her normal vet office. They made me feel her emergency wasn't worthy of their services, and while I understand she wasn't on the verge of death, I also would have appreciated some sort of advice or compassion. I am not a vet, so if I have a concern with my animal, I am going to call a professional and I hope that in that moment of worry and need, they respond without a rude or condescending attitude. I'm so relieved her normal vet office is always so reassuring and loving- as a vet office should be. Brought my cat here after a mysterious injury at 7 pm. His massive wound needed a cleaning and stitches. I had so to sign permission for 600-900$ of work. With that cost I was expecting professional veterinary services. I was called at nearly 2 am to get my cat. I asked if I could get him at 6 and was charged a 50$ fee for an "overnight" on top of everything. When I removed his bandaging 2 days later, which took an hour because it was taped directly onto his fur and he is a long hair, what I found as shocking. The vet had said all that remained was a tiny open triangle that would heal shut. This was not the case. I had to take my cat to a different vet for a whole new procedure. I went to VCA Westmoreland and couldn't be happier. For 200$ and one hour of work their skilled vet was able to completely stitch the wound with no bandage needed. I have been phoning the emergency vet to get a partial refund because the veterinary service was completely inept, but I received a letter in the mail denying my request because proper procedures were followed. We took our 6-7 week old kitten in on a Friday night last month due to her temperature dropping dramatically and not raising. She became sluggish and we rushed her in. They immediately set to work at raising her temperature. It was a busy time, but a few hours and a few updates later the vet said she was doing alright and could go home or we could leave her overnight. It was thought due to our baby being very underweight that she just couldn't warm up herself. (We had received her this way and had been doing everything we could to try to get her weight up) Of course we opted to take her home since the vet said it should be perfectly fine and to just make sure she was warm and eating. She was back to her old self and so we didn't think anything of it. The next morning (Saturday) she crashed. Within minutes she just seemed to go limp and give up and had uncontrollable diarhea. We thought she had just fallen asleep until we realized she was weak. Setting her down we realized she was too weak to stand. We rushed her back to the vet. It was empty and they took her back immediately. I saw no hesitation in getting her some care. We were informed she might not make it in what I feel was the gentlest way they could without giving false hope. We told them to do everything they possibly could and also explained we only had a small amount of money to work with. Student loans had killed any other option. They did what they could with our budget and assured us that even if we spent more there was likely not going to be another outcome. Our darling girl never recovered despite all of our efforts and we made the difficult decision to let her go peacefully. The vets allowed us to go back and say our goodbyes and respectfully allowed us time enough to do so. I myself could not watch her be put to sleep. We each got a paw print and two weeks later have received a personalized sympathy card with her name. Despite our loss I am thankful to the staff for all they did for us. Read Less

We drove for over two hours to take our elderly toy poodle to this clinic once night this past August. We are from out of town. Our dog appeared to have suffered some type of stroke like event that left him unable to move his hind legs. The veterinary staff was kind and very polite. Unfortunately there a knowledge deficit when it came to identifying and implementing an appropriate plan of care. Being a registered nurse myself and with some understanding after 35 years, of what might be helpful, I was horrified when the best that was offered was "keep him over night to see if he gets worse" (worse in this case meant dead). I asked about steroids and pain meds and was told no for both. I can appreciate that the vet can only provide what he is comfortable with however these were basic responses to the event my dog had suffered and in any case would not have been harmful if the diagnosis was wrong. The dog was returned to me in his blanket soaked with urine- which as he had lost the use of his back legs was a sign highlighting an emergency in of itself. We drove the two hours back to Florence and sat up with our pet till the morning. Luckily the vet clinic in Florence was able to see us right away and they were, after assessing our pet, able to determine the best course of action for his care. Interestingly enough the care notes from the emergency vet were not complete by the next afternoon for the second vet to have. I am appalled that a facility advertising 'emergency care' does not 1. recognize an emergency and 2. does not have sufficient knowledge to devise a plan of care to treat the animal. If your pet is sick do not go here. Read Less

Very kind, gentle with our boy in his last few hours, and wonderful with us. Tonight though, I had to bring in my other boy. He has been a part of our lives for 6 years. When we got him he was borderline completely feral, but through a lot of patience and care and love you wouldn't know that today. Anyway, he showed up late tonight at the house after lazing about outside in the warmth. When he came in we noticed he had a large injury on the side of his stomach that looked like a pellet gun injury. I called them and explained that I had no available funds at hand (the reason for this was unexpected, and beyond that the kids come before any of us for school and their needs). I also explained that my credit was not good enough to get the care credit line going. I was told that the initial basic check on vitals did not cost, and that there "were options" that might be available to me for anything else. I got there and they brought him back while I filled out the check in information. While I was filling this out, one of the staff came out and asked me about the initial fee of $98 and some change. I was appalled, but explained what I had been told. Not long after they brought him back out and explained that, and I quote: "We are a business and we can't do anything without payment." I was LIVID. I firmly, but cordially explained what I had been told, again. I also explained that having experience in an animal rescue taught me that you do NOT put undue stress on any animals, and in particular felines, when they are injured. If I had known that those "options" basically boiled down to trying to "gently" press me for payment, I wouldn't have put my boy through that. That kind of stress lower immune system efficacy for days and potentially for over a week. The end result of this useless visit that wouldn't have happened if I had not been told that there were "options" when I called that were in fact non-existent could be my boy getting an infection and dying painfully. Thank you EVH for an important life lesson that I honestly should have already known. I feel now like the only reason our first visit went the say it did was because it was an end of life moment and we hag cash to pay up front. Read Less

I am not sure how to rate them here. I took my baby girl here years ago when I accidentally ran her over with my computer chair and broke her leg, they did really well back then and from what I can remember I wasn't over charged too much for an ER visit considering when I first walked in there was some people saying they were spending $5k on their cat.Fast forward to last Saturday when I had a terrible feeling it would possibly be the last time I would see my Princess. We brought her in because she was lethargic, and old.Upon walking in the prices given for exams, and etc seemed outrages! But we knew she had to be seen. She was almost lifeless in my arms. The one thing I can tell you that bothers me is when they take your pet to be checked out when they are in this state is they put her in a cage! We wanted to be with her and hold her. She had separation anxiety as it was with out me, and I didn't need her in a cage alone if they were not doing anything. There were some members of the staff that seemed compassionate, and others that were just there....We decided to pay the astronomical amount to have her X-rayed, examined to find out what was going on. Her little heart was giving out and taking over. She didn't have much time, so we had to make the really difficult choice to lay her peacefully to rest. The Dr was the most compassionate. So no complaints there. I can tell you this was the hardest thing we have ever had to do. How do you know if you are doing the right thing? Or know when to say good bye?I held my little girl. And they were really good about letting us be with her. We chose to have her cremated, and they send them to her vets office. They also made 2 paw impressions for us to keep and made a heart shape of it.I wish their prices were a little cheaper. But I guess it is an ER. :-(R.I.P my little Princess, you will for ever be in my heart! Read Less

My fiancé had to take his guinea pig, Buttercup to this clinic a while back, due to a bad infection. She sadly had to be euthenized. He was waiting in the lobby and could clearly hear the vet assistant say coldly "Just put it in a box, we're just gonna throw it in the burner later." I wish I knew this cold, heartless witches name. Apparently all he can remember is the assistant was an Asian woman. The fact that these people are here because they supposedly care about animals is frightening after witnessing how incredibly cold and uncaring they really are. Now we are the proud, loving parents of an adorable purebred toy poodle puppy and I promise they will NEVER get our business ever again. The Vet first said it might be a fungus and then he said it was dog bites.. this dog has never been out of my site for years and is an indoor dog. The other dog in the house would not bite her and I would have heard that kind of a fight. The dog was losing hair for a week and had a massive infection that came about in one week. I had her in the local vet where I lived and they didnt find anything. Infections of that nature dont just come out because of a dog bite in less than 7 days. On top of it all, they first said it would be $120 to put her down but then it was just under $200. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG THERE IF YOUR FROM OUT OF STATE. THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU! Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE IF YOUR FROM OUT OF STATE THEY WILL GOUGE YOU.  The young vet I dont believe knew what he was doing.  He first said it could be a fungus and then said dog bites.  Neither were true.  They did it to run expensive testing.  The dog has just seen the local vet less than 7 days prior and nothing noted.  We were treating a little infection above her eye, which was not responding well.  We found out she had a huge infection on her side and several in other places.  One was spontaneously bleeding.  He kept saying it was from a dog bite and I kept telling that could not be since this dog was an inside dog and never out of my sight.  The other dog I own is old also and didnt bite her.  I would have heard it. They are never out of my sight.  They did a procedure on her that I have had done on another dog that cost me $189.  This one cost $809.  They originally wanted $1100 but when I told them I would not pay that they brought it down to $809.  Then they first state $120 to put her down and cremate her privately, then it went up to just under $200.  And they would not mail the asses out of state.  So we have to drive back just to get her ashes or have someone pick them up.  I am would NEVER TAKE AN ANIMAL IN THERE.  They separate you from your animal and you dont get to see the animal while they negotiate a price with you for care. They make you sign that you will either pay $500 to $700 for immediate care or $98 to see a vet.  Disgusting to say the least. Read Less

My bird landed herself in the emergency vet at midnight on a Sunday from flying into a picture frame on the wall, giving herself a very deep cut on her chest. We're talking exposed organs here. We called the only vet open, and actually got to consult a real doctor about what steps to take. We brought her in, they took her back immediately, and patched her up overnight, sending her home as good as new the next morning. They did have to anesthetize her since birds don't really sit still during surgery, and the grand total came to ~$350, which was quite a bit less than they quoted. They sent her home with antibiotics and pain meds, and were professional and knowledgeable, which is sometimes a crap shoot with avian medicine. The wait was a bit long (we were there for about two hours before we were dismissed for the evening), but that can be expected in any emergency medical setting. I feel bad that they get negative reviews just based on the nature of their business: all of their customers are distraught and in a stressful situation by virtue of the fact that they're at an emergency vet. Our experience was great. If your fluffy friend is in need of care, don't hesitate. Bring them here. Read Less

I'm always nervous about letting people work on a bird, but they did a great job and it only cost ~$350, which is less than what they quoted us. Not to mention the cost of the visit felt extremely reasonable for the quality of care offered (On an emergency basis, no less!) We had to utilize this clinic when our dog was experiencing labor complications in the middle of the night. Read Less

Read Less

Unfortunately, our story comes to a sad ending and they allowed our family time to grieve in private in an exam room. I highly recommend this office and I'm grateful for their help. Read Less

While I hope I won't need an after hours emergency vet again- if I do I will absolutely be finding another place. Read Less

These people are great at what they do!! I really respect these people for the 24 hour dedicated services they provide. I had to take my cat in here and he stayed with them overnight for 12 hours. After taking him home, I was really nervous and kept coming up with a million questions... So I ended up calling the office a couple of times and even brought him back in twice so they could check his vitals. They were very helpful every time I called and never acted like my concerns were silly (even though one of them was pretty silly now that I think about it). Front desk gals were amazing every time!Going into this business I knew it would be costly but the total cost ended up surprising me. I figured it would be the high end of the estimate but it was the low end, which was only $350.I hope I never have to return to the emergency hospital but if I do, I know my fur baby and I will be in good hands! I took my cat here last night after discovering a wound under his armpit that was about an inch long and maybe a little less than a half an inch deep.  It was a busy night so we did have to wait about an hour and a half but I can't blame them for that!  Once we were seen, the vet gave her diagnosis and two options for treatment.  One cost way more than I had, so I had to choose the cheaper one.  Although I felt neglectful, the vet reassured me that the cheaper route was just fine, which did make me feel better.  They took him back and an hour and a half later, he was good and ready to go.  I was so grateful that they were able to fix his wound before it became a bigger problem.  Bonus points because they kept saying how sweet he is, LOL! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE, they will rip you off. Go to westmoreland. Read Less

Read Less

See, this is complicated. A couple of years ago we had to put down one of our cats due to a blood clot, and the staff at this emergency vet was exemplar in how that happened.

Read Less
