We took our 5 month old puppy in to get neutered today and had a great experience. They educate you on expenses without making you feel guilty if you decide against extra options. Diagnosed our dog with mites without doing a scrape test. Told us we had to buy the flea/mite treatment (which they push every time). Took her to another vet for a second opinion and she had no mites and instead was allergic to her food. We used to go here a few years ago and absolutely loved them. Village at Main Veterinary Hospital has been such a blessing to our family. This is a place I recommend to anyone who has a pet who is a part of your family who needs great and amazing care. A place that shows compassion, love and genuinely cares. We didn't have the money to help our little kitty (Keoni) who had a fractured leg from his buddy (Casper) a puppy who was playing a little too rough. This hospital offered our family a grant to help Keoni. This grant covered everything he needed. All medications, casts, he was neutered, all office visits. The welcome he got everytime we came was absolutely amazing. Also the welcome to my family as well. We received great service for both our cats. One was a stray that came to us and we took him in. They took very care of him with the right shots and neutering. He was happy when he went in and just as happy when he came out. Our other kitty had an episode with a dog or coyote. She was in a lot of pain and hurt very badly. She had to stay over night and have surgery. The vet fixed her right up and treated her infected wounds. They gave us great at home instructions and we had good follow up visits. The vet that took care of her loves dogs but was very nice to our kitty. we were treated nicely as customers. No complaint here. Read Less

We took our first kitten here and got him neutered, he already had fleas because he was an outdoor birth and raised kitten so we expected they would take care of that with topical flea treatment and they did. We were satisfied they did a good job so brought our next kitten to get spayed. That part went well but they said they discovered fleas on her. She had never had fleas since both were now indoor and we got our new kitten from a very controlled environment. We haven't seen a single flea appearance in over a year and she never had fleas in the 5 months we owned her prior to now. It's pretty obvious if she has fleas she got them from this place. I'm very leary of bringing our cats back since it's clear they don't clean their kennels well and their process of taking care of fleas in their own business isn't first priority nor is protecting their patient pets from getting them. They are loving and caring and seemed to take good care of our pets which is why they get 3 stars but fail in this important aspect. Fleas are inexcusable. Read Less

Dr. Genova has been my 4 legged daughter's doctor for her whole life (10 years). He is very personable, informative and kind. I seriously cannot say enough positive things about him.. Why else would I trust him to take care of my baby girl? The rest of the staff is also very kind. Most of them have changed throughout the years but one thing that hasn't is that you can immediately tell how much they all love animals.This is definitely one of this places that I wish I could give more than 5 stars to. Okay, this is ridiculous. This place is great. I've had 2 dogs neutered and 2 dogs spayed here with absolutely no complications. You know what that tells me? People aren't following post-op instructions. Keep your dogs calm, don't let them jump, etc. I take all of my dogs here and so does my family and we've received nothing but the best care. I've never met anyone who was unfriendly (stop being so sensitive!). Maybe they didn't want to be my best friend but they were not unkind or uncourteous. I have a 5 lb terrier mix who always seems to have issues and they've done nothing but taken great care of her. I also call and make same day appointments all the time and they always squeeze her in when it's urgent. As for follow up phone calls, are you kidding me dude, it's a vet clinic and you're an adult, get your crap together. I'm off to the vet so this will be then end of my rant. I would highly recommend this place they have great service at an extremely affordable price. Read Less

Completely terrible! We took our three month old Doberman pincher puppy there cause he wasn't eating or drinking and wasn't walking on one of his feet and they took an x-Ray of his foot and said his toe was not broken and that he was fine. Then two days later he didn't wake up and we took him to the animal hospital and turns out his toe was broken and he was misdiagnosed and he had meningitis! He died later that day. The animal hospital called this vet and it turns out they knew that he was showing signs of meningitis and they knew his toe was broken! It was really traumatic for my family. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!! My dog had a suspicious lump on his belly. Two weeks prior he had been seen at a different clinic where it was brushed off as no big deal. We were at Village with another pet to see if her teeth could be saved. My dog's issue was mentioned and how I'd like a second opinion and was told he could be seen right then. Dr. Genova operated on him that day for what had become in 14 short days a very big deal! He is doing extremely well and my cat's teeth are still all there and her gums are healing wonderfully. My puppy rosie had to get her shots and they were so kind and helpful! They didn't want to associate the pain of the shots with us, since she's only 12 weeks old, so they took her in the back and gave her the shots! We got our puppy spayed here, the spay site was inflamed and swollen, we scheduled a follow up appointment and the vet couldn't even hold the puppy on the table. Very unprofessional. We had our first experience at Village at Main Veterinary Hospital today and I couldn't wait to write a review because of how pleased I was with the entire staff and environment. I arrived way early for my appointment but they took me anyway since it was open with no problem at all. As soon as we walked in the door my puppy and I were greeted with smiles and even staff that didn't run the counter came out and greeted and loved on my puppy as well which really put her at ease. Every staff member acknowledged our presence at some point. We were taken back to an exam room and we saw Dr. Tran who was warm and loving toward my puppy, she really took her time and you could easily see that she loves what she does. Dr. Tran covered all of my questions I had planned to ask as well as asked if I had any others. I would highly recommend this clinic to anybody who has had a bad experience at another clinic because it will totally make up for it as it did in our case. We chose this vet office based on price first. We were quoted half of the cost of the other vets in town. The service from all the employees was impeccable. We were able to get same day appointment from the most cheerful and kind person on the phone. We were welcomed with a smile when we arrived. I have been taking my dogs to the village at main and Tigard locations too for over 10 years. I am utterly shocked by the negative reviews! Most of our family and friends also take their animal's there too and love them and I mean LOVE them! The whole staff has been more than accommodating on numerous occaions. My wife and I have English Bulldogs and it is so hard to find a Vet who actually knows the breed in the Portland metro area. Our dogs have had nothing but stellar medical care, whether it be surgery, preventative , or emergency care. The girls at the front desk are nice and helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you understand all charges on your billing statement. They will also come around to the other side and love on your animal's, this is definitely calming to skidish pets. The prices are fair and we have even been allowed to take some prescriptions back for credit when not needed or if an alternative would be a better fit. The Vets and techs are great at problem solving and offer logical and clear reasoning when suggesting a regimen for care. I couldn't be happier with my choice of vet, that being said all businesses have their off days and that's a fact, so for your and your pets sake give them more than one try. As an avid Yelper, please be cautious of the folks who leave negative reviews that only have 1 or 2 reviews, it may not pass the validity factor for one reason or another. I was cautiously optimistic about coming here at first, considering you never know what you are going to get when you go to a vet, and I think I've run the gamut.  I will admit when I took my cat in the first time, I was a bit guarded because of the monthly price plan flyers that seemed to be everywhere I looked which gave me the feeling I would be fending off non stop sales pitches to get to my sign up for something or buy something else.  Further, after getting their assessment of what my cat needed, I couldn't help but wonder if my cat really "needed" what they were telling me or if I was getting gouged by a business first vet.  Well, after deciding to go back, I was pleasantly surprised.  The price they quoted me ended up coming out to be $100 cheaper than they anticipated, and they gave me a handful of discounts that I wasn't aware existed,  I won't hesitate to go back and to recommend them to others. I was extremely disappointed with this vet. I brought my dog in to get fixed and I brought a coupon from the Oregon spay and neuter fund, so the procedure was supposed to cost $70. When checking in they hand me a sheet of optional add ons. This place is like the jiffy lube of vet clinics. After going through the sheet which had like 9 different add ons and declining all except the head cone, they took her back for her procedure. We get a call telling us she has a loose tooth and they need to pull it which would be an additional $30. Seems expensive to me since she's already under anesthetia, but ok. When my wife went to pick her up we were told that they had to charge us extra for the nail trim, which we requested, because it was her first time getting them trimmed. I have never heard of this in my life. I was also told that we would receive pain medicine for her but I was given none when she was picked up. All in all it cost over $130 when it was supposed to cost $70. Save yourself some grief and go to banfield. Read Less

Dodger (our 110lbs mix lab)  has been coming here since 2009 as a puppy. He was 11 weeks old was Dr. Chris took the time to explain in detail the importance of caring for a puppy/dog. Each time we bring Dodger we are greeted by Crystal.....she is awesome!! Highly recommended!! I took my 6 month old Boston terrier here for her spay since they participate in the coupon program for the OHS. I read up on almost all the clinics that participate & this is the only one I felt comfortable going to. They give you many different options for pain meds, fluid administration, etc. so the cost on the coupon is solely for the surgery. But it's still much more affordable then other place. My dog had to get a baby tooth extracted as well, which my vet wanted to charge 12x what Village at Main Vet did! I had zero issues with them and my puppy healed very well! The receptionist called me as soon as she was out of surgery & I was able to pick her up about 2 hours after that. They even called the next day to check up on her! I would definitely recommend them! It was disappointing.    Pluto has a problem with his ear and we couldn't get into our regular vet here in town.  (Animal care Clinic).  We felt like we were being sold more than we really needed.  He has had this problem in the past and we didn't need anything but some ear wash for him and possibly some antibiotics.  He wanted to do a workup for 60 dollars to find out what is wrong but we told the doc what we wanted.  He said no and we needed to spend over 200 dollars.  He wouldn't sell us ear wash.  Said find more money and I will help.We felt like we were being sold a timeshare.  The receptionist that checked us in wasn't all that friendly either. We have a large dog that is to say the least a little temperamental. The entire staff at Village At Main are so accommodating and really cater to our dogs needs. He was neutered last week and there were some complications and they have been very attentive as to calling us daily to check on his status and to make sure he is healing properly. I took my cats in for a check up. The clinic has a first-time patient exam for free, so I was pretty happy with that. They were very friendly over the phone and got me an appointment that day. I took both my cats in and the front desk girls were really nice and great with my cats. The doctor was great too and genuinely cared for my cats. It was a very quick and pleasing experience. We have taken our animals here for several visits, all were pleasant, quick and had no surprises in pricing.  Last year, they gave us a last-minute spot to come in with our cat that we were concerned about.  He was acting funny and lethargic, and seemed in pain.  The vet staff stayed late doing several tests until concluding that there were cancer cells inside our little guy - they explained our options with compassion and empathy, and when we concluded we'd have to put him down, they made every effort to make sure he was comfortable and that we could properly say goodbye.  It was the worst experience made the best it could be, and we have the staff to thank for us.We received a card in the mail signed by all the staff, along with the donation to the Humane Society in Simon's name.  I didn't expect this level of care, and now that I have experienced it, I would never go anywhere else. Took my 7 mos old  puppy there to get neutered last week. They are friendly, informative and we had no problems. They called the next day to check on Brody, which I thought was nice. We went there because the clinic accepts the discount neuter coupon from the Oregon Humane Society (oregonhumane.org/service…). Note however, that the coupon only covers the procedure itself and not the pain meds afterward. The coupon was for a $63 neuter, but the total price was $105, for a rabies booster, 24-hour pain meds injection and something else, I forget.Dog did fine. I like the place. Read Less
