My pets have been well cared for at this veterinary hospital for several years--2 cats, and a dog. Dr. Fanelli uses a conservative approach and does push invasive procedures unless absolutely necessary. There are other vets there as well, but I don't know as much about them. It might be small but let me tell you they have a heart of gold when it comes to compassion of loss of a family member and also they're great they're not rude they are there to help you and I 100% Can Say that this vet is the one you want to go to forget the other ones this is the one you want to go to. Walbert Animal Hospital was recommended by a co-worker who is a dog lover, so I took her advice and visited this vet when I adopted my newest dog.  I've owned dogs all of my life and have been a client with several different vets both in and outside of the Lehigh Valley.  I think Dr. Mike missed empathy class when attending school. And he certainly wins the prize for rushing through a visit with a sick pet.  The first time I thought it was a fluke, but the second time I was clearly one of the last people at the office in the evening as they winded down for the day;  I timed him; one minute 30 seconds spent with my pet and a diagnosis of kennel cough. I paid for the meds and visit of course, but later found out it was a misdiagnosis, which isn't a surprise since it was a 'drive'by' visit.   So if you don't mind being on a conveyor belt for the care of your pet, you enjoy being talked over and rushed out the door....then you'll love this place.   Never again. When I received my service dog, Buddie, my cat's vet recommended that I go to Walbert Animal Hospital. She said that Dr. Terry Miller and his staff were the most compassionate team she ever worked with. Well, she was right. Dr.Terry and the gang helped me raise a wonderful dog. The Walbert staff thought Buddie was wonderful too. Then, Dr Denise and staff helped us through the sad times of Buddie's illnesses. Five years after Buddie's passing, I received 2 golden retrievers. I have been taking my dog to Walbert Animal Hospital since I moved to the Lehigh Valley in 2013 and have had only pleasant experiences. Dr. Mike is very direct and is not afraid of my dog's sometimes impolite behavior. The vet techs are all very friendly and knowledgeable. I don't ever feel like any of the veterinarians are taking advantage of me or make crazy recommendations for no reason. They are very thorough and take the time to answer my questions and make sure my concerns are addressed. It's also pretty easy to get an appointment when I need it. I recently brought my dog in for back pain and it was a little overwhelming to take care of by myself. I needed help getting him from my car into the vet and one of the techs quickly came outside to help. They have evening hours for those who are working. I would give them 5 stars but they aren't an Animal Hospital so blood work and such needs to be sent out and obviously they aren't open for emergencies after hours. Not the most reliable place. I definitely recommend a second opinion. They told my family my dog was passing out and having seizures because he had a lot of gas in him. We took him to a different vet the next day and found out that he had terminal cancer that was filling the area around his heart with fluid. That vet told us that it was extremely obvious from the scans the Walbert vet did. The Walbert vet told us "some dogs hearts just look like that." Apparently they never do. That other vet also told us that a dog drinking water extremely fast and then throwing it up is the most common sign of it, his cancer was extremely common. The vets at Walbert told my family not to worry about that months prior. My dog would still be alive if they knew. He died four days after we saw the Walbert vet. I'd trust them for vaccines and extremely basic things but if your pet is really sick you need to go somewhere else. Read Less

I started going to Dr Mike with my fosters through our local rescue. My first visit was with an unpredictable, neglected, abandoned dog. Dr Mike was fantastic with him!! My second visit was with my 15+ blind girl who's journey here on earth was complete. I knew it was time, but still doubted myself. Dr Mike was so compassionate and reassured me I was doing the right thing. She had no quality of life. We made an appointment to take our "Astro" who we just adopted for his annual check up. We tragically lost him the day before the appointment. The staff was so compassionate to us and sent a sympathy card to let us know we were in there thoughts. Such great kindness on their part since they barely knew us, but knew we were grieving. We decided Dr Mike and the staff at Walbert Veterinarian was for us and our fur babies. Such pride in their practice from the time they pick up the phone until you leave after the visit. Their not pushy, answer your questions, take their time with your pet and really treat them like they were their own. I am a registered nurse and I have been taking my pets to Walbert Animal Hospital for many, many years. I have always received exceptional care from everyone in this practice! They are knowledgeable, compassionate, caring people who go above and beyond to care for my pets! Right now I have a chihuahua and a chiweenie who I adopted from Peaceable Kingdom. They were badly burned and found roaming the streets in extreme cold temperatures. They are precious, sweet, and extremely loving for me but saying that they can be a bit of a challenge for the staff here is a great understatement! Yet they are treated with patience and kindness and positive reinforcement. And I certainly believe they are the most knowledgeable when it comes to any aspect of their care! I am well overdue in writing a review for Walbert Animal Hospital, and the urgency is even more so after I have read the review by Nathan J.  I, along with my mother and sister,  have been taking our family pets to Walbert Animal Hospital almost 20 years now. In all those years, I cannot say I have ever witnessed anything other than compassion and professionalism from all staff members. The staff at Walbert has  seen many of our family pets grow from young kittens and puppies through old age (the eldest  was our 21 year old cat Felix)! We have entrusted their health and care to the veterinarians and staff at Walbert all these years, and we keep coming back because of their knowledge and dedication to the pets and their owners. We have had many of our beloved family pets euthanized there after such diseases as cancer and end stage renal failure had taken over---we were showed nothing both empathy by the doctors, who never rushed our decision or the last minutes of life spent with them. I can remember tears shed along with us as we proceeded with ending their suffering. I was able to stay in the room for as long as I needed afterwards, to say goodbye. Cards of sympathy always came a few weeks after their death. ....For me personally,, I currently have 2 senior dogs (10 and 16years) who have a chronic illness called Cushings disease.  The 16 year old is doing quite well  on the medication--as a matter of fact, he has been living much longer than what is expected with the disease. I give credit to the care he has received by Dr Fanelli and also to good luck and genes. On the other hand, our 10 year old rescue Skippy has been not so lucky. She has had multiple issues with tolerating medications, anorexia, Gastrointestinal issues and more recently neurological concerns. Dr Fanelli has been nothing but dedicated in  trying to manage her disease--he communicates to me as needed and always makes time to call me back if I call with a concern.  Walbert Animal Hospital is a BUSY practice---why? Because they are excellent in provision of care to our family pets and people want to get their pets seen. When a practice is busy (and I know being a RN for 11 years and have worked in clinics and hospitals), the staff has to keep moving. They are busy taking care of multiple pets, not only who are waiting in clinic rooms, but there are pets in the holding areas in the back. The phones ring off the hook. It may appear to some people that the staff are not "paying enough attention" to them--I would challenge those people to take a moment and look at the bigger picture.  Put yourself in the staff's shoes, just for a minute. Try to develop empathy and have understanding of what is going on around you while you are in the clinic. I know most people really only think and believe that they  and their pet matter the most...of course, I get that. But you have to maintain patience and be kind--you don't know what's going on behind the scenes or what the person next to you is going through. Being selfless, understanding and patient are virtues that many people lack...but is highly evident in the staff at Walbert.  I am forever grateful to them for the compassionate and knowledgeable care they provide. I would recommend Walbert Animal Hospital to anyone who is looking for a veterinarian for their pets. Everyone has always been friendly and very caring. They have always helped me with the many questions I ask. Recently I took one of my 3 year olds to see Dr. Fanelli. As we were walking in the door Dr. Fanelli asked me to wait outside with my dog till someone could take us in the back door. A case of kennel cough had just been in there and he didn't want me or my dog to be exposed to it. I have a 12.5 year old dog who was diagnosed a few months ago with a heart murmur and a collapsing trachea. Dr. Fanelli was concerned for him since kennel cough is contagious and my dog or I could have taken it home. I have to say this I'm not big on Reviews on Social Media,  I have lived in the Allentown, Pa area my whole life , I'm a retired Vet Tech.  I have been taking my dogs to Walbert Animal Hospital for over 14 years, I even elected to take them to Walbert Animal Hospital over the vet that I worked for.  The July 11th review by Nathan J, has led me to this review.  I also was in that waiting room the day in question and I have to say , I saw something totally different that what Nathan J had saw.  First off there was NO cat in the waiting room just dogs.  I'm not going to sit here and say I was in the waiting room with the pet and doctor however I did see whatever the circumstances where , Walbert Animal Hospital staff handling the pet and owner with the greatest of professionalism and care.  We can't assume a pet is mistreated because we heard the dog make a noise.  I think the average person does not realize how incredibly hard it is to have to treat a large dog that is in pain and trying to keep your own personal safety a concern,  I had received far to many bites and scratches to even count.  I personally have saw numerous examples with my own pets on how Walbert Animal Hospital and its staff went ABOVE and BEYOND to administer compassionate care for my ailing pets over 14 years.  When I read a review that just doesn't add up or contradicts itself I have to take the time to respond.  I'm so glad I was there that day. I just believe in doing the right thing.  In closing if your looking for a Vet in the Allentown area (there are many fine choices) But I can say I would recommend Walbert Animal Hospital without hesitation. For the longest time, I never fully trusted most Vet offices. I always had the feeling as if they were over charging me, or that I was being robbed for every penny they could get. A few years ago, I finally found an office that I was happy with, but the Doctor retired shortly after. Again I was stuck trying to find a new office. After doing some research and reading some reviews, I made my first appointment with Walbert Animal Hospital. Best decision I've made! Not only do they have a friendly staff, but the prices are very reasonable. I never feel taken advantage of, or misled. The doctors are compassionate and have a true love for animals. I wont be returning. I took my 16 week old pitbull there and I feel like he was treated unfairly. The lady the cut his nails she was very nice. Kept calling him handsome. The vet however I was not pleased with, I basically feel like he rushed us out the door. He didn't ask me any questions about him but he was quick to say I was lying about my puppies age. That he should have his adult teeth by now and he doesnt, an that he is underweight for his age. I went online an seen alot of other people's pitbulls weighted 23-30 pounds, he's 29 pounds. Then he said it's probably not healthy for him to have white an black nails that he may have a pigment thing going on right now to not nueter him yet, OK that's fine. But i read that is normal. He didn't ask what he ate or how much, didn't ask for the stool sample. He check him for a cold cause I said he sounded congested, all he said was all give you antibiotics if he is congested. So is he or isnt he? Then he started saying since I didn't have his vet records which I think they lost they he could have parvo even though he's doesn't have any of the parvo symptoms. I just feel like he made my dog to be out to be a horrible puppyaybe because he's a pit. The only time he touched him was when he gave him the shot. Most vets are constantly petting and touching the animal checking their bones, their ears, everything. If you have a pitbull I don't recommend you go here. Maybe i went on a bad day cause it was a Monday but I still i don't feel like he was cared for. Plus they charged me $113?! For what!? A office visit, some pills, a shot, and for them to check his poop for worms with they didn't even look at. Most vets look at it right there so they can say if they have worms or not. Before today I have never came to a vet where I did not get recommended to buy multiple things this vet honestly cares about animals health. My dog is a 10 year old Italian Greyhound with chronic kidney disease and my previous vet told me to buy a bunch of foods with by product and to buy medicine. Cost me $100 I walked out of Walbert Animal Hospital today paying only $60 I finally feel like I am not being scammed or ripped off. I will not trust any vet or go to any vet I was Anti-Vet before my visit here today. There prices are low. They are not trying to make a dollar off every problem your dog has. And they tell you things and give you advice that can help your dog with things you can find in your own home. They use a premium organic brands (standard process) and it looks like they know what they are doing. Dr. Mike Fanelli is a Great Vet and he doesn't look like most of these scam artist vets nowaday. I have been going to this vet for years.  Since I was a child with pets at my parents house, to now when I have my very own fur babies.  Every time I go there it is a great experience, but I felt compelled to write a review after a recent visit there with my cat.  My cat was not in good shape, and as a lay person it was hard to tell exactly what was going on.  I called them, and with their recommendation I brought him in right away.  I had a 3:30 appointment, and showed up at 3:10.  They took me back right away, and the doctor was in the room within minutes.  She did her exam, and knew he wasn't right.  She noted what seemed to be a bladder issue, and told me we would have to do an emergency procedure.  They had us sign some paperwork, and they took him back immediately as if we were their number one priority at that time.  Long story short, my cat should not be alive right now, and I have the staff at Walbert Animal Hospital to thank for saving his life.  If it wasn't for their swift action, I don't know that he would be here with us today. He eventually had to be transferred to the Emergency Vet, but the staff at Walbert was still a huge part of his care, and calling me with updates multiple times a day.  Every time I call they are there to help.  I highly recommend this vet, and they are very fair price wise.  They do not want you to break the bank, so I was always aware of the potential costs.  (No hidden fee's.)  The staff here is friendly, and knowledgeable, and you can tell each of them are animal lovers, as they treated my baby like one of their own.  I cannot express enough, how much they've impacted my life, and saved the day.  Thank you guys!!! Took a Rescue Cat there that had all her shots - was told the rabies shot didn't count and they wanted to do another one.  This was a small kitten and another rabies shot on top of another would have made her sick - when I refused the shot I was told that someone could come to my door and demand to see proof (a certificate) of a rabies shot.  I had the paperwork from the Rescue and even said they could call the Rescue or the Animal Hospital (with the vet's name) that had supplied the shot.
