My dog tore her CCL ( the human equivalent would be the ACL) and my vet wanted to do a $5,000 surgery. Since I couldnt afford it I started calling around to see if I could get a lower price.  I brought her into spring house and Dr. Cohen was so kind and helpful,  she talked about other options besides surgery.  They didn't make me feel like I had to rush into any decision. It was such a relief to know that there was the possibility of an alternative to surgery. I really appreciates the time they took with me, and I will gladly drive the hour to bring my dog here from now on. Read Less

Dear Doctors and Staff, The purpose of this letter is to thank the doctors and staff for your dedication and sincere care of our German Sheppard Fritzie. Over the years you provided excellent health care for her. You clearly communicated all health issues, providing us with a complete understanding of your diagnosis and advice. Your facility has more of a homey feel and not a cold, clinical atmosphere. Fritzie was one of those €nervous Nellies€ when she had a visit at the hospital. Your staff always did their best to calm her down and treated Fritzie as one of their own. Recently, as Fritzie€s health was failing and quality of life deteriorating, you provided us with a service which was both humane and respectful. Helping Fritzie pass away at home in the comfort of her own bed made the emotional experience easier for both Fritzie and us. Doctor Cohen and her associate performed the procedure sitting with us on the floor of our den at Fritzie€s bedside. Each step of the procedure was fully explained and we were given plenty of time to bid our sweet Fritzie farewell. The three-step procedure you used allowed her to pass as if she was peacefully falling asleep. Once she had died, your hugs and kind words of condolence were sincerely appreciated. After nearly a week of mourning the loss of our Fritzie, we were touched to receive in the mail a hand-written sympathy letter from Dr. Cohen. Such a kind gesture is not often seen these days and for this we thank you. Our family is grateful to Spring House Animal Hospital for helping our Fritzie live a happy and healthy life. Even at the end, your compassion and empathy provided us comfort during a difficult time. Warmest regards, The Fox Family Read Less

I can not begin to express how fantastic this vet is. Being involved in rescue and foster, I have been to over a dozen vets in the city and suburbs, and no one else compares. They are detailed, compassionate, kind, reasonable, and so thorough. My first dog passed in their office 3 years ago and I can still feel the tremendous warmth and empathy they showed me that day as they helped me through the process. On more than one occasion, they squeezed in emergency appointments for me at the last minute - even on weekends. They have stayed past closing time (and said nothing about it) to ensure nothing is overlooked in terms of my pet's care. They listen to all my concerns, and guide me to make the best decisions I am able to for my pets. They work tirelessly to provide the best care for their patients and they have my complete trust, always. I can understand why some people who commented here are put off by Dr. McMurtrie because she has a strong personality. That, for me, is one of her great qualities. She is advocating for your animals. It's important to her that you are taking the best care of your pet that you are able to, and she isn't afraid to tell you what you can do better or where you've gone off track so you can correct it. She is never wishy washy with her opinions, but you still get to make all the decisions. If you can't help but be put off by that, you should STILL take your pets here because you will not get better vet care anywhere else. It takes me an hour to get here in light traffic but I won't go anywhere else. Read Less

I am SO HAPPY I found this vet. My Holly was diagnosed with Lymphoma in March of last year. I was told she was very sick, with possibly only a month to live. I originally went to another oncologist, and not only were they aloof and cold, their prices were outrageous! So I was panicking about not being able to afford to do anything for my dog, and I found Springhouse Animal Hospital on Google. Dr. McMurtrie is a lifesaver! From the second I walked into the office, I felt welcome. She was very warm and friendly, explaining everything to me, but not in a condescending way. The techs there are all super sweet and take the time to greet Holly every time we are there. She's never been a huge fan of going to the doctor, but her tail starts wagging the second we walk in and doesn't stop until we leave. The best part, it's been almost a year since Holly's diagnosis, and she is still doing great!I love this vet, and all of the people that work here. I would highly recommend Springhouse to everyone! After moving to the area, I was happy to see the positive reviews, which I notice are specifically referring to Dr. McMurtrie, who I did not have the pleasure to meet.I saw Dr Diamant several times over a few months based on recurrent allergies in my dog.  On the first visit, I ordered the daily antihistamine that my dog had been on for about a year.  The monthly supply was $105 here vs. $35 at my previous vet.  I understand price fluctuations but this was excessive, no?  After raising concern and asking them to check to be sure, I was told that there was no mistake and that was the cost (of course I refused to purchase there and bought the exact same meds at my previous vet for $35).  The next time I came in I asked the financial manager at the front desk to look into this for me and after about 10 minutes he realized that there was a mistake in coding in his computer which reflected the wrong price.I found the service here to be strangely condescending and found myself acting defensively upon some of their advice.  As if I had something to do with the recurrent skin infections related to allergies.  When I was chastised about needing to use Prednisone again to manage the skin condition (Dr. Diamant said she wouldn't use that on her own dog) I decided to seek the help of a veterinary dermatology specialist. After calling me to review the notes they received from the U of Penn dermatologist at VSEC (a very well respected facility), I was completely shocked, dismayed and offended by the lecture I received from this Dr., who is a fairly recent graduate (2011). To quote, exactly, she said "We do not support the medication your dog was prescribed.  I don't want to make you feel guilty however this medication will give your dog cancer".  I AM NOT EXAGGERATING, these were the exact words, uttered a few times so as to emphasize their disapproval.  Wow.I understand that all medications have side effects, and I had done some of my own layman research, as well as spoken to several other vets who had had positive experiences with this medication (which by the way has managed her allergies effectively for 6+ months as of now).  I would have appreciated some educated consultation WITHOUT judgement and which would have demonstrated a higher level of professionalism and maturity. As a responsible pet owner, I pray that I have made the right choice in the benefit/side effect ratio, and I respect the opinion of professionals.  However, I have decided to find another vet who is respectful to me (and my money by the way) and my pet in offering educated and not judgemental advice. I go out of my way to bring my dog to this practice.  They are friendly and knowledgeable and obviously care a great deal for their patients.  They called numerous times over the course of a weekend just to make sure my dog was doing well after a routine surgery - really impressive.  When he went in for vaccines around Christmas, they sent him home with a really nice toy, compliments of "Santa" - little things like this that are above and beyond what is necessary. Best of all, the dog genuinely likes them - and he's a pretty good judge of these things...! Read Less

My go-to vet! Been coming here for about 2-3 years now. I live in Center City now yet still drive here on the weekends to bring my dog here!Although my visits are limited to once a year, recently I've been having to bring my dog here often (3 times the past month!) because she's been having some issues w. her anal glands (sorry, TMI!) They've always been able to accommodate me even though I call a day ahead. The male receptionist that picked up the phone during the weekday was SUPER nice and was able to provide some advice on what her issue could probably be. I've never seen him in person though...This past weekend, they were super busy due to two dogs that came in with emergencies -- I had to wait about an hour and a half for my entire appointment. But of course I wasn't going to complain - there were dogs that needed immediate attention! I decided to wait, and at the end they ended up charging me only about half (technician's fee instead of vet fee) of what my Appt normally would've cost for "being patient." Awesome! :)Will be coming here for as long as I am in the Philly area Read Less

:)Will be coming here for as long as I am in the Philly area Read Less

i've been taking my dogs here for a few years.  the facility is very very clean, the vets really care about the animals they treat, and they aren't crazy expensive.  i live about 1/2 hr away and there are at least six other vets between my house and springhouse but i still think they are worth it.  my two dogs have had 2 other vets/animal hospitals prior to springhouse and they are by far, the best. Dr. McKee is a fantastic vet. She always takes the time to make my dog feel comfortable with her before she examines her, she takes her time with the exam - we never feel rushed, and she answers all of our questions. My dog kisses Dr. McKee's face as she examens her! She LOVES her and she has never liked any other vet. The best part is she always calls us at home to check on us to make sure that everything is going well. My husband and I very much appreciate the personal attention and the time that Dr. McKee gives us. Their techs are also great. Jim, who works at the front desk, is always friendly and happy to squeeze us into their schedule. We're so happy we found them! Read Less
