My dog Peanut has come to Chartiers Animal Hospital since March and I'm very pleased with my switch!  I have seen all the doctors and each one takes time with you, answers questions, and is very friendly.  But most important treat Peanut with care and compassion.  Staff have been very friendly and accommodating!  I really all they have to offer--email and text reminders, a pharmacy there, and evening and Saturday hours!  Peanut just had dental surgery on Monday and I was very pleased with this experience.  The doctor called when procedure was done to let me know how he was doing, when I came to pick him up I was pleasantly surprised that it was cheaper than they had quoted, and they explained what I had to do and answered all my questions and then called me the day after to see how Peanut was doing.  I would highly recommend Chartiers Animal Hospital!! Everyone at this vet office was just lovely. Another bystander and myself brought in a collar-less pup we'd seen get hit by a car, and a variety of staff hopped to, taking every relevant step. One called the local police, giving them contact info, it anyone called, looking for this adorable l'il guy. Another began making found-dog flyers. And of course the vet techs and vet were quite thorough, giving this fellow both a once-over and a twice-over. (I.e., x-rays. 😉 ) Though this office isn't close to my own home, I may well bring my kitties here, if they need care. Do consider bringing your critters here, too. (P.S. Hands down the best vet in the area. They've always made time to see our dog, even when everyone else is booked two weeks out. The entire staff is very caring, and concerned with our dog's well being. I cant recommend this place enough as they've saved me twice from awful Banfield appointments. The vets and techs are quick to drop to the floor to talk with my dog, and be comforting, which is an amazing quality. It's pretty clear they love animals here. Read Less

We have been using this veterinary group for many, many years and have always been pleased with their services. Through well and sick pet visits the doctors and support staff  have always been kind and respectful to both us and our pets. Their facilities are top notch, scheduling is a breeze. Recently we had to make the difficult decision to euthanize a beloved pet. From the time I called in to the office until the procedure was complete we received nothing but kindness. I called to get an appt for our pittie foster who had a wound on his leg and they offered to see him the same or next day.  When we went in the staff was very friendly and Dr. Mendenhall was awesome with Spencer and didnt care what breed he was and gladly accepted kisses from him as she sat on the floor.  He got great care and is doing better.   I will definitely take future fosters and my personal dogs here from now on.   I might add that they are way cheaper than any other vets in the area.  The visit, cleaning of wound and 2 weeks of antibiotics 2 x a day was only $87.  Anywhere else would of been at least 2 to 3 times that price.  I know this from experience. I would definitely continue visiting Chartiers and recommend the place to others. I have been so satisfied with all the love, care, and expertise my pet cat got from Dr. Mendenhall and the others involved in the process on my visits. Everyone was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable, and answered my questions patiently. I was very happy with the generous time given as well. I had mistakenly been taking my dogs to another local veterinarian for years due to loyalty to the same vet my parents had used.  What a mistake.  This past week my dog finally succumbed to his cancer.  After calling my normal vet, I was told sorry we are all booked go to the hospital.  In a last ditch effort I tried Chartiers Animal Hospital (CAH).  They not only took us right away but they talked us through some options until we finally decided to give him a couple more days with family (He was not in pain).  Two days later it was finally time.  We took him back to CAH and they treated both my family and my dog as if we had been going there for years.  I will forever remember how they treated us!  I also will be immediately switching our other dog and any other pets that come along in the future.  These were such nice caring people.  One of the good things to come out of what we have gone through. I'm sorry I found a place much more reasonably priced. Especially for meds. My friends have highly recommend this new place. I just paid $68 for 28 pills and my friend paid $42 for 30. Same exact prescription. I'm retired and my money is very tight. You have been very good to my baby but I have to move on. Read Less

My childhood pets came here, and I recently brought both of my dogs here (one from a previous vet via the shelter she was adopted from). Everyone was very kind, Dr.LaSota was through with explinations and examination, inquired if I had any questions and answered them thoroughly even more so. I had gone here years ago and hated it. The doctors weren't very nice or caring. However, I wasn't happy with my current vet and decided to give the place another chance because I saw that all of the veterinarians had changed and the location is so convenient for me. I'm so happy I did! The doctor was great. We saw Dr. Martinovich after we adopted our new dog. She was so wonderful with him. She clearly loves animals. She was gentle with him and very thorough. The cost was higher than I had hoped but for the experience, I didn't mind. I will absolutely go back and plan on taking both of my cats here at some point as well. Very pleased! I took my sick cat here and they charged me $$$$ for blood work and then never called me with results. I had to chase down the results and finally spoke to a different vet than the one who examined my cat. He said my cat "absolutely did not have hyperthyroid". They said my cat's problems were behavioral and were rude and dismissive of my concerns. I finally took my cat to another vet who diagnosed him with hyperthyroidism. I'm trying medication now and I hope the illness hasn't progressed too far. Otherwise I'll have to have him put to sleep. Don't take your cat here. Read Less

I've only been a client for a little over a year but will take any future animals here exclusively. I took my 13 year old pug Thor in the other day because he was pretty suddenly not feeling well and was told that there were treatments they could try but they would not recommend it. Unfortunately I did have to make the decision to let him go. I could not be more grateful for such a caring veterinary office. They did not force me into a decision, they let us take our time and have several people join me and most importantly let all of us be with him until the end which ended up being very peaceful. We were not rushed in any way and told to take our times even though it was the end of the day and I'm sure they wanted to get home and they even put him in a box to make it easier to carry him out. I really appreciated that Dr LaSota told me that I made the right decision and it is amazing to have kept him in such good health for so long and made me feel like a good pet parent. Everyone that I dealt with was so compassionate. I wish the evening had been a better outcome but they made a truly horrible experience as good as it could be. Dr. Mendenhall and her staff were fantastic! My cat Otto got sick with what turned out to be a UTI, and they were kind enough to fit him in to be seen the next day. Their prices are also very reasonable, and they did not try to hike up the bill with unnecessary services and tests (unlike other vet offices I could name). He's feeling much better with simple antibiotics and steroids. They even called a couple of days later to check and see how he was doing. I'll definitely bring Otto there for care in the future! I will agree that Dr Sembrat can be a bit abrupt, but I don't care. Whenever one of our cats has a serious problem he is the doctor I want to examine them. He cuts to the chase and has always been right, even with some pretty bizarre things. Dr. Riffle is also wonderful with cats. He is kind and gentle. The folks there have always gotten us in right away if there was as serious problem. And while no vets are inexpensive these days, they are fair here. We've paid exhorbitant amounts at other places for wrong treatments and diagnoses. I'll never go anywhere else after all they've done for us and our two cats. Read Less

I have gone to this Veterinary Hospital twice. The first time when one of our cats was ill and we were worried she was dying. She is older and probably had an obstruction from eating thread or something. We don't have much money, but, the Doctor we had worked with us and did everything he could within our budget and had suggestions for things we could do to help her out. These things plus the fluids he gave her worked wonders and she healed 100%. I don't remember the doctor's name, but, he was very gentle and sweet and talked to us in a kind way and was nice to my cat. Fastforward about a year, last week we took another cat to this vet because of the excellent service we had last time we went. Unfortunately, we had a different doctor this time and he was extremely condescending and treated us like crap. Our cat was $$ to him, he didn't seem to care about her well being at all. I wish I could remember his name, my cat is still sick, he didn't help her at all. I'm definitely not going back there, though. I won't be treated like sh#@, it's stressful enough to have to take your sick pet to the hospital, let alone having to deal with someone who is supposed to help, being mean to you and your pet! I have been coming here for 3 years, my dog got hit by a car 3 years ago and my regular vet could not see him, chartiers animal hospital brought me right in, and i have been coming here ever since. It is a drive for me but its worth it. Dr. Riffles care is excellent, the technicians Alexis and Joanna are very nice and friendly, they call you back for updates, the front desk is friendly. Firstly the negative comments below, it is the least expensive vet in the area, you want good care its not free, this office is hardly price gouging. A mistake is a mistake in billing. As for care for my dog and cats, they are personable and loving animal care givers. I never had any meaness from the doctors or any one else towards me or my pets. I feel this office has gone above and beyond my expectations. If someone here was less than nice to you then might you check your own attitude first. People project what you give off. I am newer to the area and this clinic came to me via a suggestion by a friend. I made the appt and was welcomed by a friendly front desk clerk. My initial evaluation by the vet tech was fine. After the usual preliminary exam I was told the Dr. would be right in. Dr. Sembrat entered without so much of a greeting or introduction and it went downhill from there. He was gruff, unfriendly and did not come across as an advocate for animal healthcare but more as an individual who was annoyed and perhaps had better things to do. What did I rvc for $180? Heart worm test, a month of meds and substandard examination. The visit lasted less than 10 minutes and mind you, this was the first time he had met my dog. He failed to do a thorough exam and didn't even bother asking about my dogs history or ask about why I was there. He wrapped up the visit and was heading for the door when I had to remind him of my concerns about my dogs tumor (then he checked) that I had discussed with the tech. He said your dog is fat - he has a fatty tumor - he needs to loose weight and it will shrink. He barely touched my dog! I was so shocked that when he gave a curt ""bye"" and walked out I wasn't sure if that was really it. I found out it was and headed to the front desk. Now everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt so I asked the front desk clerk on the way out, ""Is he always that gruff or is he just having a bad day?"" She said, no, that's how he is. Well you can count me as someone who was severely disappointed in the lack of service, lack of a thorough exam and as most of us who have to watch how we spend our dollars these days - this is one clinic that I will not advise you to spend your hard earned money at. My dog and I both deserved better service that what this particular vet limply provided. Read Less

our pets have been patients close to twenty yrs with Dr. Sembrat. When we moved to the N.Hills we stopped going to chartier's because of the distance. After experiences at other vets, we found that Dr. Sembrat is worth the drive. He is so experienced and HONEST and that is much appreciated. When he put our golden down several yrs ago, we appreciated his honesty and help in decision making.
