To start things off: 1) I will never take any pets of mine to this vet. I know it sounds harsh, but wait! There is more. To start my girlfriend has 3 rats, one that is older and two that were from the same litter at the pet store. Unfortunately one of the two younger ones had an upper respiratory infection that is spreading through the three. So I take them and they give us the complete opposite medicine (medicine we have read is good for UTI's not URI's). So that was over 200 dollars for all that. The medicines and dosages they prescribed were ineffective and all 3 got sick and sound worse by the day. Over four or five days of calling, they would tell us they will call us back and then never follow through (meanwhile these poor rats are struggling to breathe). Finally they call us back after my girlfriend and I persisting (note: you should not have to persist when worrying about the care of your animal, a vets office should be more helpful than stressful in cases like this). I asked to switch to baytril and doxycycline, two antibiotics that we know will actually work (note: you should not know more about medicating your rats than your vet). They give me enough for the one rat who is the biggest and charge me another 55 dollars for that, when they should have given us this medicine in the first place. My girlfriend is now heartbroken at how they are not helping at all. It is crazy to her and me how bad they are with stuff like this: giving us the wrong medicine that had no effect on the rats, primarily. They all are sick, when originally it was just one. The vet refused to give us new medicine for the baby rats we brought in because apparently it is too strong and will stunt their growth, but gave us no other options either. This is AFTER we told them the medicine is not working for any of the three rats. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE, AT LEAST FOR YOUR EXOTIC PETS. Don't be fooled by the good reviews, because I was too. All this vet's office is good for is stressing you out and not helping to fix their mistakes.

I came to Animal General after a disappointing experience with another local exotics vet who I had to wait over a month for an appointment with and then wanted to charge me $700 (!!) for a basic rabbit neuter and told me my daughter's rabbit was "fat," missing a serious medical problem. I left that practice and came to see Dr Mark. He was very thorough in providing care education about rabbits and was clearly very knowledgeable about rabbits and took the time to provide detailed information about their care, which I really appreciated.During the exam for the pre neuter exam, Dr Mark immediately noted my rabbit wasn't "fat" but had an abnormal exam and recommended x-rays which showed the rabbit had a serious, life threatening condition. Dr Mark was wonderful through the whole process, explaining my options and the pros and cons of treatment. The condition was too serious and didn't respond to treatment and we had to put bunny down. He and his staff were incredibly sensitive and wonderful with my children who came when we had to put him down. They offered a clay imprint of the paw we made into an ornament (included for free) and asked if the kids wanted some of bunny's fur to take home, which they very much did. Although our pet passed, the entire experience from start to end with the practice was exceptional. . I never had to wait long to schedule an appointment, to be seen by the vet and services were reasonable. The front office staff and techs were also very kind and helpful. It was very reassuring to find such a knowledgable and compassionate veterinary practice that was reasonably priced. I will definitely bring our future pets to this practice.

Brought my dog in for a serious emergency after another vet misdiagnosed her. Dr Mike saw my dog and quickly assessed the situation. She had to go immediately into surgery, Dr.Mike saved her life. He, and the whole staff were very caring and concerned and kept me updated while I nervously paced for hours. Dr. Mike came out and personally explained everything and gave me honest expectations in a meaningful way. He and his staff are very caring and interested in the work they do. My dog is alive and well because of the years of experience Dr Mike has and the care they put into their work. Very satisfied and will return to the clinic.

I've been coming here for over ten years. I've seen all the vets. They're all wonderful, whether you have a cat or a dog or an exotic pet. I took my rats to them, and now I take dogs to them. I recommend them to everyone I can. I couldn't imagine a better vet. Like, I might squirt a little, because they've been there for my husband and I through rough times. Excellent people.

The week I'm watching my parents' cat, she decides to get sick! I found an old prescription bottle from her vet and called in a panic. They got me an appointment within a half hour of my call and took us right back into a room as soon as we got there. The vet took the time to read through the cat's chart and quickly did an x Ray. The cat had severe bloating. The vet spent a lot of time in the room answering my questions- and I had a LOT! She also hooked me up with a follow-up appointment the next day, squeezing me into an already full day. We saw a different vet the next day who was equally patient and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend this place. My mother always had good things to say about this place, and now I see why! Prices seemed to be totally fair as well.

I received two word-of-mouth recommendations to come to Animal General. We have a cat and a dog, and Dr. Stewart gave them great care during our first visit. He seemed very knowledgable, really listened to us and addressed all of our concerns. We needed a vet who would take care of our animals and take care of US too. Also appreciated was the courteous receptionist, the evening hours, and a very short wait time. They made a great first impression.

I had brought my boa constrictor in for prolapsed hemipenes. The first encounter with them was very nice and professional. The vet performed surgery to correct my snakes issue. Less than a week later, my snakes hemipenes re-prolapsed and appeared necrotic. When I called Animal General, the front desk refused to let me talk to the vet and were "too busy" to correct the issue they hadn't fixed the first time around. So I basically spent 250$ for the end product to be worse than the beginning. I will not be giving them my business in the future.

BTW anyone that doesn't cancel a Dr's appt. should be charged specially when their are other people that need to see the Dr's. I am sorry that goes for any Dr. not just a vet.

In general I just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling at this veterinarian's office. They need to work on their people skills.

I'm a veterinary technician student and one of my professors recommended this office to me. She knew what she was talking about!
My husband and I took my 16 year old cockatiel here for his first vet visit and it went great. Everyone was extremely friendly--it surprised me. I moved to PA from TN and am constantly shocked how rude even professional people generally are up here, but this office was not like that at all. They even gave me directions when we got lost on the way to the office, and didn't seem impatient about it.
They treated my bird kindly and professionally, and since I told them I am a vet tech student, the vet, Dr. McDanel, made a point to explain everything he was doing, and why, and he even showed me how to conduct some of the exam myself in the future. It was very helpful from my position as an owner of an exotic animal, and even more useful to me as a vet tech!
I'll definitely continue using this practice for my exotic pets in the future.

It is a 25 minute drive from my home, but it is well worth the extra time.I started going there because one of my dogs had severe allergies. I needed a vet who already understood the complexities of the issues involved in this type of problem, and I found the right team at Animal General. They are extremely knowledgeable about dogs with allergies.Over the years I have also taken my cats there for basic veterinary care and have always been pleased with the care they received. The veterinarians are caring and extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend them for ongoing Vetrinary care.

I have went to this vet for several years now and I am very pleased with the level of service and care from my vet. I have 2 pugs and 2 cats and they have all been seen there, they saved my cats life after finding him very very sick and weeks to get better I could not have asked for more caring vets and staff, Dr Mike even took my cat home with him overnight to keep close tabs on him, they showed me how to give him IV fluids when he came home to save me money from bringing him in daily to get it, I highly recommend them for care of your pet. I go to Dr. Justin Stewart there and think he is great, I know many people in this area who all use him as there vet, very caring and up on all the latest meds and services.

They saved my turtle Snappy's life. She was nearly dead with little hope and they brought her back! I also bring my cats there for sickness/shots/checkups and they give great vet service. The doctors, nurses, and techs, and receptionist are VERY nice and very helpful. They get you in quick if you need it.

To start things off: 1) I will never take any pets of mine to this vet. I know it sounds harsh, but wait! There is more. To start my girlfriend has 3 rats, one that is older and two that were from the same litter at the pet store. Unfortunately one of the two younger ones had an upper respiratory infection that is spreading through the three. So I take them and they give us the complete opposite medicine (medicine we have read is good for UTI's not URI's). So that was over 200 dollars for all that. I received two word-of-mouth recommendations to come to Animal General. We have a cat and a dog, and Dr. Stewart gave them great care during our first visit. He seemed very knowledgable, really listened to us and addressed all of our concerns. We needed a vet who would take care of our animals and take care of US too. Also appreciated was the courteous receptionist, the evening hours, and a very short wait time. They made a great first impression.

I had brought my boa constrictor in for prolapsed hemipenes. The first encounter with them was very nice and professional. The vet performed surgery to correct my snakes issue. Less than a week later, my snakes hemipenes re-prolapsed and appeared necrotic. When I called Animal General, the front desk refused to let me talk to the vet and were "too busy" to correct the issue they hadn't fixed the first time around. So I basically spent 250$ for the end product to be worse than the beginning. I will not be giving them my business in the future.

My dog just had surgery and they have taken such good care of her and Dr's are very compassionate about the animals. BTW anyone that doesn't cancel a Dr's appt. should be charged specially when their are other people that need to see the Dr's. I am sorry that goes for any Dr. not just a vet.

I liked Dr Marc, except for 2 times in a row when I went there he would tell me "be right back"....then the front technician would come in and tell me i'm ready to pay, meanwhile Dr Marc would already...

In general I just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling at this veterinarian's office. They need to work on their people skills.

My husband and I took my 16 year old cockatiel here for his first vet visit and it went great. Everyone was extremely friendly--it surprised me. I moved to PA from TN and am constantly shocked how rude even professional people generally are up here, but this office was not like that at all. They even gave me directions when we got lost on the way to the office, and didn't seem impatient about it.
They treated my bird kindly and professionally, and since I told them I am a vet tech student, the vet, Dr. McDanel, made a point to explain everything he was doing, and why, and he even showed me how to conduct some of the exam myself in the future. It was very helpful from my position as an owner of an exotic animal, and even more useful to me as a vet tech!
I'll definitely continue using this practice for my exotic pets in the future.

It is a 25 minute drive from my home, but it is well worth the extra time.I started going there because one of my dogs had severe allergies. I needed a vet who already understood the complexities of the issues involved in this type of problem, and I found the right team at Animal General. They are extremely knowledgeable about dogs with allergies.Over the years I have also taken my cats there for basic veterinary care and have always been pleased with the care they received. The veterinarians are caring and extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend them for ongoing Vetrinary care.

I have went to this vet for several years now and I am very pleased with the level of service and care from my vet. I have 2 pugs and 2 cats and they have all been seen there, they saved my cats life after finding him very very sick and weeks to get better I could not have asked for more caring vets and staff, Dr Mike even took my cat home with him overnight to keep close tabs on him, they showed me how to give him IV fluids when he came home to save me money from bringing him in daily to get it, I highly recommend them for care of your pet. I go to Dr. Justin Stewart there and think he is great, I know many people in this area who all use him as there vet, very caring and up on all the latest meds and services.

They saved my turtle Snappy's life. She was nearly dead with little hope and they brought her back! I also bring my cats there for sickness/shots/checkups and they give great vet service. The doctors, nurses, and techs, and receptionist are VERY nice and very helpful. They get you in quick if you need it.
