I have been taking my pets to Banfield since Dr. Steed was the Vet. We loved Dr. Steed, and always appreciated the staff as well including Al and Stephanie. They always went above and beyond to make sure that you were comfortable and that our pets were taken care of. We had to take my 13 year old cat this weekend to be euthanized. This is not an easy decision for any pet owner. She has lost half of her weight in the last 6 months, could hardly move, and the list goes on. She was very sick, and we didn't have the money to do expensive testing. We literally agonized for the last three months on what to do. We explored our options as a family, and finally came upon the decision that it was time to say goodbye. We called a few months before and were quoted a price to have this done.
When we arrived, they examined Guinevere, and immediately began to question why we were putting her down. We explained the situation and it fell on cold, deaf ears. There was no empathy or acknowledgement of the decision that we had made. After the tech left the room, the Dr came in and shook our hands. And immediately told us that she was confused. I told her the cat was at least 13. She went on to tell us that there could be other things wrong that were treatable and showed absolutely no heart to the decision we already made. After leaving the room, the tech came back in and told us the cost. It was 50.00 more than we were quoted on the phone, she told us that we were misquoted. The cost included an office exam of 40.00- that we didn't ask for! After arguing with them, they removed the office visit.
I will never return to this clinic, we had previously had to euthanize our dog a few years ago, and were not made to feel like garbage about our difficult decision. This experience was totally unacceptable. I understand that they need to give you the options, and that they may include tests and treatments. However, if the pet owner chooses not to do those things, they should not be made to feel more horrible than they already do. Losing a pet is difficult as it it, you don't need to be treated poorly by the staff of a Vets office.Read Less
