Unfortunately today I had and emergency with one of my dogs. I normally work with Dr Strobal who unfortunately was not available today. During my visit with my injured dog I felt I was being portrayed as a criminal opposed to a concerned pet owner. I felt there was no compassion for me or my dog. In addition the application to assist my dog was in affective and required me to reapply the bandages myself. I feel like just had usvleave with an resolved issue and we paid for it. Very upset! I had a really bad experience taking my dog here. She had bladder surgery and they put her on Hill's prescription CD dog food. Every night she would throw it up. She was on it for about six months and it didn't get rid of the stones. I took her off of it.Dr. Sarakin Insisted on me putting her back on this food even though I told her that it had bad ingredients in and something in it would make my dog sick. She got really hateful with me and said if I don't put her back on it my dog will be back in here in a month bladder surgery. So again I put her back on it and again every night she would throw it up. I would never go back to her and I did a different method with my dog and she has no problems with stones anymore. Dr. Day is the best vet in all of Pittsburgh in my book. Thoughtful, responsive, and she's the only Dr. of several we went to who actually offered us practical guidance & support as we worked through some of our two dogs' fears and anxieties. We love Dr. Strobel! I can't speak highly enough about him. He is extremely patient, kind and caring. He has a very calming way with animals and you can tell that he truly cares about them. He spends a long time with you and never makes you feel rushed. When my cat Figgy was sick he personally called me numerous times to check on him and give me his test results. I love Dr. Stroebel but the front office staff is horrible. Not friendly at all. The receptionist mocked me right in front of me. When I said I wanted to make my appt. with Dr. Stroebel, she muttered, of course. She talks about people right there in front. The lady who takes payments barely speaks. They make me uncomfortable. I took my dog in for a visit recently, our first time at the clinic. The building is very nice, exactly what you'd think a good vet office should look like. Thankfully there weren't any other pets in the waiting room when we arrived so my dog could run around and sniff everything. The staff was very nice and talked to the dog by name to help her feel comfortable. The visit with the vet was a little hectic, not unexpected since my dog's kind of a spazz but seemed a bit rushed. The reason I went with 4 stars is the price tag for the treatment and meds was pretty high. One of the meds I found on Amazon for half the price. Also, they called a prescription in to Costco for an oral med, when I went to pick it up they said it was $40. The problem is that Walmart and Giant Eagle have similar stuff for $4, yes that's one tenth the price. They also tried to upsell me on some optional pet care products at check out, stuff that I found elsewhere for much less money. I was happy with the vet, and the folks at Gardens seem like they genuinely like working with pets, but you might want to do a bit more to help keep the price down on pet care. People are much more likely to bring their pet back if they don't fear having to spend hundreds of dollars per visit. We won't be going back there unless there's a definable problem that needs a vet's care when I can go to the Tractor Supply store nearby for vaccines and routine meds at a much cheaper price or get supplies online. We've taken our dog Toby here since we've had him as a pup.Dr. Strobel has always taken good care of him and is a very good Vet.We did have to take Toby to PVS-EC but that was for an Emergency around Christmas/ New Years and the office was Closed, but he's done the followup Care since then.The Staff is also very good. Best care in the area. Lets face it, pet care isn't cheap, (not unlike human healthcare !) that is a given. Pets are some peoples "children" and to others, simply pets. If you don't like the cost of or the care you are getting, shop around and you will be knocked over by the cost of some other Vets in this area. Its your choice. I have been going to Gardens for over 15-years and Dr. Stroebel has been nothing but consistantly fair with costs, accurate in his diagnoses and the care of our pets.Read Less

Can't think of anything nice to say about Gardens Vet Hospital. Took our puppy here for it's checkup. They gave her a superficial exam and the shots and told us to come back in about 4 weeks for boosters. Cost was approximately $140. Told us booster appointment would be about $60. I could like with that. Brought my puppy in for it's second visit to get booster shots; they charged me $40 for the "exam" which consisted of the vet listening to her heart for 15 seconds. Gave the immunization and took a slide of her ears. (Without consent). Said she had a yeast infection in her ears; even though we had given her the medicine they sold us on the last visit and the dog was exhibiting no symptoms. The vet took her in the back and gave her ear medicine "so that we wouldn't have to do it at home". Talked us into medicine for kennel cough, "because when you bring your dog here, it's around other dogs and can get kennel cough". The end result -- our bill was $178 for a 12 minute visit to get booster shots. We were never consulted about the ear treatment before it was done ... just given the bill. It doesn't seem like they care about their customers or their pets ... It's all about taking you for as much as they can get out of you. If you do go here ... make sure you ask them why they are doing what they are doing, and how much is it going to cost. Read Less

We have taken our cats there for over 5 years and they have always provided excellent care. Our elderly cat had a complicated case with thyroid and herpes issues and they provided care that included starting with basic, simple things. They did change the care based on disease progression and new treatment options. They always left us with choices based on cost and potential side effects. Welcom Wagon gave me a really nice magnet to advertise this vet when I moved here. The magnet didn't advertise 2 numbskulls at the front office desk, evdently the highlight of this vet's office. I have 2 dogs and a cat. One dog has a severe thyroid problem, her serum thyroid level was 0.00 before we started her on the pills. Recently she began gaining weight again, and has a bad looking eye. Both are often related to thyroid deficiency. I wanted an appointment, but had a question on the timing. I had forgotten how long after taking the pill (she takes 2 a day) we were supposed to check the thyroid level. The receptionist said it ""didn't matter"", I told her it did indeed matter and I'd be glad to hold while she went and found out how long. She then asked the person in the chair next to her and said she ""agreed it didn't matter"". So they have two dimwits working at the front office area! I don't expect the office help to be vets, but I do expect them to find out the answer to a technical question and not try to guess. Especially as I have experience here and know it was either 3 or 4 hours after the pill. If they are this ""nice"" when greeting new customers, I can only imagine how nice they are when they aren't trying to even fake the""welcome to Cranberry"" to me anymore. There has to be another vet in town that values customer relations and thinks their office help is their ambassadors. I see other reviews here saying the front office help isn't very helpful. I guess the doctor never sees them, the office folks may know how to do one thing, hide their bad reviews from the boss. I'm usually easy going, this place blew my mind. Read Less

Dr. Strobel truly cares about animals, this is evident the moment he is with your pet. The reputation that he has earned is stellar. He tells my cat's he loves them & he says it with such sincerity. My issues are that it is much harder to get an appointment with him ( I even scheduled an appointment with him well in advance & then the staff contacted me to say he could't keep the appointment & I had to get in with another vet). I could not wait because I was due to have a baby in a few weeks. The last appointment that I had there was absolutely ridiculously expensive. They tell you they have a discount for bringing more than 1 pet for a visit. I have 4 cat's & let me say there is no real discount that matters. The new vet that say my cat's took them into another room away from me to do their exams. Dr. Strobel NEVER did this. Dr. Strobel would do the exam in my presence & allow me to ask any & all questions that I had. I had a relationship with Dr. Strobel, we would chat about the cat's, his grandchildren, my job... He gives you 100% & then some. The vet at the last appointment could not or would not make normal eye contact. At times I have also experienced quite rude treatment but it comes from one single source at the front desk. This particular person appears to be on a power trip & it is not conducive to a veterinary setting. I had a cat who was bitten by one of my other cat's and he was limping ( At the time I didn't know this was the result of a bite). I called & got this particular person on the phone & she said I couldn't get in for over a week. I felt he needed to be seen & went to another vet. He was put on meds & I was told it was good he came in then because if it would have been let go it could have turned into an abscess & could have needed surgery. I was so upset that I stayed away from Garden's for a while. I ended up going back because Strobel is the best. I told him what happened & he said if that ever happens again you ask for me. I appreciate that but it should not be that way. I was told there has been issues with this particular person but she still works there. Read Less

I took my pet to Gardens after he hadn't been eating for two days. They did a whole day's worth of tests/xrays/fluids/etc. Turns out, they did not find anything wrong with him. They charged me $475.00 for NOTHING. The front desk staff is rude and condescending, and they openly gossip about customers. I will never go there again. Read Less

This is a wonderful practice. All of the vets (especially Dr Strobel who we adore) are extremely competent and very compassionate. They even saw my mom's cat on a Sat without an appointment- we had to go get him and Dr. Strobel waited for us to get there. I think Dr. Strobel was as sad as we were to give us some bad news. They are warm and nurturing with the animals and sensitive to pet owners' feelings. They really love the animals. The vet techs and office staff are also very caring and gentle with the animals. Dr. Stroble is the best part of this animal hospital, but the front desk is horrible. We have been customers for a few years, but when we had a true emergency the front desk was rude, unaccomadating, told us to go ""somewhere else if we thought it was life threatening"" and hung up on us. We were very unhappy, as our dogs love Dr. Stroble and in an emergency (during office hours) we expected to be treated right and have our veterinarian help our dog--truely dissappointing. We ended up taking her to the Northview Animal Hospital on Siebert Rd. and what a world of differance!! The entire staff was more than accomodating and truly sympathetic to our emergency. We ended up switching to this veterinarian, Karen Hayworth , she is truly a gem and the office staff is caring and amazing. We ended up having our dog put to sleep at Northview and they did it in a very caring way. We now take our other dog and new puppy there and highly recommend it. To top it all of Garden Vets never called to see how our dog was and does not even know she had to be put to sleep, yet they still send us reminders for her shots. They want easy money for easy work. We will never recommend Gardens Vets to anyone and also found out that neighbors have had similar experiences with Gardens. Read Less

Dr. Strobel is an outstanding Veterinarian who I highly recommend. Animal care is his true calling in life. Dr.Strobel gets to the bottom of any issues with your animal and he treats your animal in the most loving way, nothing fake it is all real. I have 4 cats which are like my children since I don't have any kids. I will not settle for anything but the best for my cats and I have found the best with Dr. Strobel. I have had a few serious issues with my cats, and Dr.Strobel has personally called me to check on their condition after they were released from his care. He knows how to calm both animals and their owners. I greatly respect him. Read Less
