I read the horrible review that the other person wrote. It is sad someone would try to hurt a great vet's reputation and mislead people hunting for an excellent vet. I have known Dr. Harr for 25 plus years. I have been a top breeder for over 25 years and I am in the medical field  also. I wrote and had a medical paper published which helped  hundreds of dogs which I am very proud of. Dr. Harr saved one of my female dog's life with a blood transfusion from my male at 2 AM in the morning after she started bleeding out right after having a litter of puppies. She saved all 8 puppies plus my female with emergency surgery. She held and petted my dog talking to her softly as she came through the operation and transfusion. She is amazing. She studied under the top breeding specialist in the US. I come from South Carolina just for her expertise. Shelter dogs and puppies are made up of people who have no clue how much commitment it takes to breed and have a litter correctly and stand by your puppies your produce. They actually need a class in breeding dogs with prenatal and postnatal care. Dr. Harr should think of teaching a class for people who are serious about breeding properly. Who made that person an authority on socialization? I also work with a specialist who has a degree in dog behavior and she agrees that statement was not true and just opinions of a person probably without any creditials in dog behavior and written to hurt Dr. Harr's reputation for some reason?.  I know her dogs personally and her dogs all are socialized and loved very much. Everything on the website is true, she does all types of special care and more. This is something special I feel you should know if you have to put your dog down and you are afraid like I was. Dr Harr put my dog to sleep so peacefully with love, she gave me time to love my dog and hold him while he are going to sleep, it was so peaceful that I did not even know when he was gone . That is one big reason I go to her. I feel God made her a guardian angle for sick dogs on earth. I am proud to know her and have her care for my dogs. I would go nowhere else. Read Less

Went out to the office to pick up the record and was ignored by the one staff person that was not one the phone. When she did acknowledge me, I explained that I was there to pick up my dog's shot record. She snapped "did you call for it"; I stated that I had this morning. She looked to the staff person on her left (who had just hung up the phone) and said did you print any shot records out. At that time, the phone rings and she answers it and snaps "hold please!" The other lady stated no but it will only take a minute. She took my info and gave me my record. I was planning on scheduling an appointment for my dog's vaccination, but after that - no way! I drive 35 minutes and pay a toll to get there and back homd. No more!! This has not been the first time I have had an attitude or rude interaction with their front line staff. The doctor's and the tech's are ok but I'm done with that front line attitude. If you hate your job - you need to move on. My family and I never had a problem with them for as long as I can remember. They had always been nice to us in the past so I didn't think anything of it. So we took our 11 year old Boston Terrier there for just a simple check up and a shot. Now note this dog is the sweetest thing ever. He's NEVER snipped and he hardly barks.. So anyway, they've done it before in the past nothing major. Once we saw the vet she proceed to get snippy that my dog wasn't neuter. We didn't have the money for such surgery so we just left it be. So anyway she continued to check him over being very ruff with him and I'm not even sure if she even cared... she went to check his bum and grabbed his tail and yanked on it... HARD... he snipped cause obviously that would hurt. She then told us that we had an aggressive dog and demanded he be muzzled. We refused cause it was her pullin on his tail that made him snap. She then yelled at us that another vet would have to see us then... ok no big deal right, a place like this should have more then one vet right?.... WRONG! she was it and we told the vet tec. what happened because there wasn't one with us in the room like there usually was. She proceed to tell us that she was it and that she would only come in if he was muzzled... we just wanted the shots and go so we reluctantly agreed if she would come in and just do the shot. So we get the muzzle which is for a big dog not our tiny terrior, it covered him whole head and he was wheezing cause he could barely breathe. She comes in with that big "I won" grin on and proceeds to put on these white gloves. We tell her that we just want the shot so we can take this muzzled off of him. She then screamed at us to get out and that we are not welcome here. We grab our dogs and go the the front desk and got the dogs records that day. They also tried to give us another dogs record that was apparently under our name but wasn't our.... we now go to a vet in Saltsburg. I have been using Delmont vet hospital for years and have spent several thousands of dollars there. Today I went to the office for a 1 o'clock appointment, of which I have an appointment card for with the date and time written on it. I am currently fostering a couple of kittens which are sick. My appt was for one of my cats who needs some dental work done, he's had ongoing dental problems which have been treated by them in the past. I took the kittens in place of my cat requiring dental work since the kittens deteriorating health is more urgent. If you try to call the hospital between 12-1 they don't answer. So I was not able to give them a heads up of the switch. No biggy right? WRONG!!! When I arrived at the hoispital, I let Shelly know at the front desk that I had a couple of kittens that needed seen, she asked when my appt was, I said one o'clock... In the meantime, I can tell she's already in a bad mood, so God forbid I anger her with my sick animals who need vet treatment. Apparently I didn't have a scheduled appt, and she then proceeded rudely to tell me id have to wait until 2:30 if I wanted to see Dr. holland. Ok, now, you could have nicely explained there was a screw up on the hospital part and asked me to come back a little later, or see if there were any other openings.. Nope, just rude rude rude. So rude that I've requested my records (which are extensive) to be copied so that I may transfer to another vet hospital who will treat me with respect, especially after I've spent thousands of dollars there. After I got home I called the hospital to speak to Jan their office manager. Shelly answers the phone (lovely). When I ask to speak to the office manager, I'm rudely told she's in a meeting. Ok fine, transfer me to her voicemail. Left a message. Jan calls me back a few hours later, I explained to her what happened, I'm extremely dissapointed, she blows it of like whatever, another rude person... GREAT!! Told her I'd like my records copied, she says they charge $5 a page.. Hahahaha, uhhhh ya, I'm not paying for them, not after how I was treated, so she agrees to make copies, I'll pick up Thursday. Such a dang shame, as I've always loved loved loved the veterinarians here as well as most of the techs, unfortunately, they need to find a new front desk person as well as a new office manager. I would've put 10 stars but they only allow you 5 ... I have been at Delmont Veterinary for 18 years mostly with Dr. Betty Morovick who is an animal Saint in my opinion.... She cared for and kept my Bichon Frise dog for her 17 years and was so honest at the end when she was determined to have nasal cancer was very honest about her opinion of how treatment would be and that the end result would be any different so I appreciate her telling me honestly but left the choice up to me but treated her to the best of her ability to keep her comfortable until that was no longer possible.... at 17 I feel she and the vet techs and staff did the utmost best job performance all those years and supported me through the entire process in the end..... Thank you for your dedication, love and care for animals for all kinds and helping a human know how to love an animal eternally!!! :) Love you guys! P.S. I now have an almost 2 year old puppy who is in extreme good health and I look forward to their care for the next 20 years I hope! Read Less

One of the receptionist is also very rude and never has a sense of urgency in her voice or willingness to help in the event of an emergency. I don't know what's happening with Delmont Veterinary Hospital. The staff seems to change on a regular basis, including a few of the doctors going missing and several of the techs. The wait is usually pretty long when I go and ever since my favorite vet left, I haven't found another one there that I like. They are disorganized and inefficient. Early in January, my wife and I called our regular veterinarian clinic, Delmont Veterinary Hospital to have our dog euthanized. We called as soon as the office opened at 9:00 AM on January 5, 2010 and explained in detail why we wanted the euthanasia performed . The receptionist put us on hold a few times while she consulted with the veterinarian who was available, Dr. Means and/or Dr. Krazel. When she returned, she said to bring our dog in at 10:00 AM. When we arrived, I took our dog into the office, assuming that the euthanasia would be carried out as agreed upon during the phone call. Dr. Means then came into the room and explained that they were able to make arrangements to have our dog placed in a “shelter”. My wife waited in the car because she was too distraught to attend the procedure. When I objected to the alternative plan that the facility presented, and explained that we wanted the euthanasia, she “strong-armed” me to call my wife on my cell phone. I explained to my wife what was transpiring and the Dr. eventually got on the phone with her. Dr. Means asked my wife if she would be interested in exploring the possibility of having our dog placed elsewhere and my wife said she would come in to talk about it. During the next 30 minutes or so, 2-3 veterinary technicians came in, Dr. Means literally stormed out of the room when we would not agree to the alternative plan, because we insisted that the euthanasia be carried out as agreed upon during our earlier phone conversation. She eventually came back in and said they did not do convenience euthanasia. She said we would have to find somewhere else to go. While we respect the principles of Delmont Veterinary Hospital and their efforts to find an alternative to the euthanasia, we feel that it was unethical as well as inconsiderate to set up the appointment for the euthanasia only to make these alternative arrangements without our knowledge, and causing us additional anxiety, stress and pain regarding our decision. Please note that we have utilized Delmont Veterinary Hospital for 3 animals during the past 7 years. A few years ago, we had a cat euthanized there without incident. We still had one cat and one dog. No phone call was ever made to us prior to Delmont Veterinary Hospital contacting the adoptive shelter, nor were we ever advised that this was a possibility during the course of making the appointment. The decision to euthanize our pet was not an easy one; it was difficult and heart-breaking, but we did what we thought was best for our pet and our own peace of mind going forward. Therefore, we would like to file a complaint against this veterinary medicine provider, so this kind of situation does not happen to another family. Read Less

Read Less

Having just helped my 17 year old dog find her rest, it is hard right now to put into words how much I think of Dr. Elizabeth Harr and her staff here at Delmont Vet. My dog is the only one I raised from a puppy at 8 weeks and I knew I needed expert medical care and advice. I knew when I met Dr. Harr she was the right choice for my Lady and I. She was always kind, knowledgeable and so sweet to her. I trusted her opinion implicitly. My girl came home to be with us when my children were in elementary school and they are both now adults, with one having a child of her own. I know Lady would have never had the long life she had with us without the expert advice and care of everyone at Delmont Vet. From the first visit to the last, I have never been sorry I trusted these caring people. Thank you Dr. Harr and staff. I will never forget you. Read Less

I never write reviews but this place is absolutely awful. Very select few staff members are actually easy to talk to or act like they care. One of the receptionist is also very rude and never has a sense of urgency in her voice or willingness to help in the event of an emergency. I feel they have wasted enough of our time and money, from the uneducated staff to the lack of consideration of calling an appointment to reschedule when they decide to cancel. Just sucks all together. Read Less

I'm really considering finding a new place, but I've been going to Delmont for so long, I hate to see that happen. Read Less

Highly recommended. They handled an emergency with my dog 30 minutes prior to closing and stayed an extra hour to help her. We are much happier there than we were with out previous vet.

Read Less
