The NW PA Pet Emergency Center is doing the best they possibly can in stressful situations. If a pet needs emergency care the owner is already upset so emotions are high. There isn't any doctor/owner/patient relationship in a service of this kind so they don't know if the owner is good for the money or not and that is why they need to discuss finances sooner rather than later. We are lucky to have skilled services like this available after hours in a city the size of Erie. Read Less

First the weekday hours SUCK we drove over an hour to get there around 8:30pm. My GF's Cat had issues from surgery and an allergic reaction and this place was recommended. Get there the lady at the desk was just rude. Sat for 2 hours the Vet was great and friendly. We go to leave and was told that the cat had to be monitored over night but we HAD to pick her up before 8am. having to drive over an hour home because we both had to work in the morning just to have my GF get in her car and drive all the way back up there to try to sleep in her car so she can get the cat before she has to go to work. I called with an emergency. My dog had surgery 3 days prior for over 200 stones blocked in her urethra. It was a Sunday afternoon, so my vet was closed. Woman on the phone said they couldn't do anything because there was surgery involved. I explained the surgery to her. I told her my dog can barely urinate and when she does it is bloody. I also told her my vet said to make sure she is urinating properly, if not to call you. She told me, if she gets real lethargic then bring her in. Apparently they don't care. Seemed like I was bothering her as my dog was urinating blood and in pain! Read Less

Having read the previous reviews I felt i had to share my experience. I was extremely apprehensive about taking my dog there when he suddenly got sick last night because I had read them. They were the only emergency vet so I had no choice. While I agree it's extremely expensive I don't understand why you would expect otherwise. The staff there was very kind and understanding. My poor baby was very sick and at no point was I pressured to go the very expensive route and try and save him. When I told the vet of my decision he actually agreed with me and said that was the best choice. Not even 10 min later before they could set up so I could say goodbye to my friend he passed away on his own. I have no words for how kind and caring these people were to me today, especially when there aren't words to make anyone feel better. I would take any animal I had back there if I ever needed to. I would of paid anything if I had thought that there was a way to save my dog. Read Less

Brought my senior cat late at night after driving through a blizzard from Cambridge Springs. She was falling over, pupils completely dilated on both sides. They took her to the back and did blood work. Brought her to a room and called me in. My poor girl was struggling to stay upright while the woman (who said she was a vet) told me that 1. She has a brain tumor 2. Her "mentation" is poor. 3. She is blind. Even though her symptoms were sudden. Her suggestion was to take her to Pittsburgh for an MRI (at $3.000) but I should consider her age (15) before spending that much. She then gave her a shot for nausea, though I repeated told her she had NOT thrown up. $500 later I left with my poor cat in no better shape. My best friend googled her symptoms and I took her to her regular dr the next day with the googled suggestion. Google was right SHE HAD HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE and had had a stroke!!!! This woman calls herself an emergency vet. I beg to differ. If she had a finger that could do a google search then I might call her a dr. She was terrible. My cat suffered needlessly because of her. This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a vet. Our cat unfortunately passed on the way there and they were going to do a cremation. We decided we wanted to have an autopsy to see if her condition was genetic because we have her litter mate and wanted to cancel the cremation. They literally forced their staff to hold my dead pets body hostage saying we had to agree (and sign paperwork stating) to bring her back to be cremated because they didn't want to lose the money. Mind you, we owed them no money. They charged us a hundred dollars to walk in the door and be told our cat was dead. I spoke with one of the owners and was shocked by her condescending attitude and lack of empathy. I had to threaten to call the police before the in house vet gave us our cats body! The vet missed that our puppy had a completely fractured olecranon after he had been attacked by three pit bulls. She showed us the xray and told us it was normal for a puppy's bones not to be fused. We assumed she knew best. We followed the advisement of the vet and did a follow up with our regular vet three days later. Our vet caught that our little puppy had this fracture and immediately recommended surgery. Our poor little fella was in extra pain that we didn't know about because of a vet that was too busy to actually do her job correctly. When the place is so busy, another vet should be called in to help. Not only did she miss this, but she also said that he seriously needed some obedience training because he wouldn't calm down to be examined, a) he had just been attacked and b) my husband and I couldn't be in the room with him. The first thing she said to when I called ahead saying we were coming in with my friends dog was telling me of the 120 copay and the additional costs based on the services they needed to provide. When we got there she took her dog into a room that no one was aloud to go into and then continued with additional costs that were now over 500 dollars. I would give it no stars if possible. All they care about is the money. The first thing she said to when I called ahead saying we were coming in with my friends dog was telling me of the 120 copay and the additional costs based on the services they needed to provide. When we got there she took her dog into a room that no one was aloud to go into and then continued with additional costs that were now over 500 dollars. No part of this animal hospital is about animals. Don't ever put your animals through it. Read Less

The staff was professional and courteous. The vet was detailed and competent in his diagnosis. They handled the care of our dog Chico with care and concern. It is great to have a place to take a pet in an emergency. I am happy to know that this service, which runs from 8:00pm to 8:00am, is available.Read Less
