I went to East suburban animal Hospital on Sunday during emergency hours on 12/23/2018. My pug was in distress and would not stop coughing and gagging and I was the first and only customer in the place but As soon as I asked them if they could look at and treat my pug they said they were completely booked and could not help me. It took them more time to explain why they couldn't take him in then it would've to just take him back and diagnosed him. The employees at East suburban animal Hospital clearly are not concern about animals in need of care and I will definitely be recommending nobody take their animal there. A veterinarian office that cannot even treat an emergency During emergency hours is a zero star vet in my opinion, And I urge others to think twice before taking your animals there. Read Less

Exceptional staff, very loving compassionate and kind without exception. With each visit any person I encounter there from technicians to office manager and anyone else not working on my pet is friendly and affectionate just the same. Dr Kelley was our vet this time. He was professional but also very pleasant. We have been going to East Suburban for many years and have always been satisfied regardless of who we see. Our dogs have had surgeries, infections and just about anything you can think of and have been treated effectively. Unfortunately we have had to euthanize three of our dogs there. The staff members are very compassionate in these situations and allow you to participate to the degree you choose. I probably will never go anywhere else and highly recommend them. Read Less

They care more about money than anything else. Last year we needed to board our dogs and they needed a nasal spray 'shot' in order to be boarded. I called to make an appointment for both of my dogs, two weeks before our vacation, but they said they only had appointments the day before our vacation. I explained that this was the day before our vacation, and that I wanted my dogs to have the shots a couple of days in advance so that I could make sure that they didn't have any reaction. That didn't matter to them. We got to the appointment right on time, and by the time that we checked in, it was 5 minutes after our appointment. I will say, they were busy that day. So, after we checked in, the staff said to take a seat. OK, pretty usual stuff. We waited for 35 minutes in the 'lobby'. I turned to my husband and said, "Everyone is coming and going, but we are just sitting here". I asked when we would be seen. The staff said she would ask, and that we were next. We sat back down. 25 more minutes pass. At this point, my dogs needed to pee. I told the lady at the desk we would be outside for five minutes, just to let the dogs pee. She said fine. When we got back, I asked when we would be seen. She went to the back and asked. She said we were next. I looked at my husband and said, let's go. The lady said, "But you're next". I sighed, sat back down, and we waited ANOTHER 20 minutes. I got up, told the desk lady that our time was valuable too, and that this office had punished us enough for being late. Sure enough, she just shrugged her shoulders. This was the first time that we were ever late to a dog appointment, and they decided they would punish us by making us wait for hours, knowing that our dogs needed this for boarding because our vacation was the next day and we were flying out. The kicker on the whole thing? We called the kennel and explained what happened, and they said we could purchase and give the live vaccine from a local tractor market. HAHAHA!!! We gave our dogs their vaccine, AND saved a good $200 dollars!!! HAHAHA!! We have since found a fantastic, caring, vet in Plum Borough called the Holiday Park Animal Hospital. So, in the end, the Joke is on East Suburban Animal Hospital!! HAHA! Keep punishing your customers and their owners! Based on what I hear at three different dog parks, MANY people feel the way I do. This is the worst place to take pets. I would never take one of my animals to this butcher shop. I watched them literally torture my mother's cat to death. She went in for a sick visit and found out the cat was having heart failure and needed to be put down. I remained in the room during the procedure. It took them 25 min and 3 different people in this tiny room repeatedly sticking the poor cat with needles. They tried all four legs over and over, sticking the cat 30+ times with needles before shaving the cats throat and stabbing her repeatedly in the throat using such force that at one point they removed one of the needles from the cats throat and it was bent in half. This poor animal suffered for 25 minutes while they tortured it and all I could do was watch in horror, disgust and disbelief. What should have been a quick, painless procedure turned into a nightmare. This is by far the worst veterinarian establishment in the area. Absolutely disgustingRead Less

I took my dog here to have his torn ACL fixed, upon referral from his usual vet. Everything went well and Dr. Caslow was a nice enough guy, but my advice to you is that if you take your dog here for surgery and they give you the option of taking him home or leaving him overnight, TAKE YOUR DOG HOME AS SOON AS YOU CAN. When my dog was admitted, they told me he'd stay overnight. When the surgery was over, they said I could pick him up that evening. I wasn't sure what I should do, since they're the professionals, and I felt that an overnight stay would be better for him. Granted, he'd be there alone for most of the night, but I figured he'd be so out of it, he'd sleep through the night and be fine in the morning. It's not that I didn't want him home; I just thought that an overnight stay would be the best thing for him since they are the professionals and it's WHAT THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO DO. So I asked Dr. Caslow what he thought was better, and he said my dog would do better at home, but the choice was still up to me. So I decided to bring him home and I'm so glad I did. It was a long and difficult night, but had I left him at the vet, he would have been alone, terrified, and in massive amounts of pain. He's never had surgery before other than his neutering, so I didn't know what exactly to expect, but after getting through night one of recovery, I don't know why I was given a choice or why having him stay was the default option. I was up all night with him trying to make him comfortable, and if he'd been left at the vet, he would have been absolutely miserable. I'm just a dog owner. I don't know what these procedures are like. When I asked them what would be better for the dog, I should have been TOLD WITH CONFIDENCE that my dog needed to come home, not wishy-washily suggested to that it would be better but not necessary. I was clearly confused and having a hard time with the decision, so it would have been nice to have been given enough information to make the right choice. Everything else with my experience here was just fine, so if god forbid I needed this procedure done again, I'd gladly come back here, so this review is intended to be more of an advisory than a criticism. Just remember that when you bring your pet in, be sure to ask lots of specific questions, and remember that your pet WILL be better off with you; not alone in a kennel with no one to give him his pain pills or take him outside. Often our perceptions of a practice are at least partially influenced by the outcome of the treatment provided. Despite an unwanted outcome, I highly recommend this practice and will continue using it for my dogs in the future. I lost my 9 year old Siberian Husky to Osteosarcoma a few months ago. I had been bringing "Yukon" to East Suburban since Dr Caslow performed a successful CCL surgery 4 years ago. I was so impressed by the treatment then, that I switched over to his practice permanently. I have always been impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of his staff and all of his veterinarians. Yukon was diagnosed correctly and early, and all my options were clearly spelled out, with the pros and cons as well as the costs of each. We all did our best and were able to give him a pain free period, albeit a short one. I was touched deeply by the kindness shown by everyone we met towards us. I trust them completely and am secure in the knowledge that they did everything they could to help my pet. Read Less

When they diagnosed his condition and realized he was in need of immediate care that they could not provide they never mentioned payment. They sent us to AVETS to start treatment immediately and simply mailed us a bill for the balance of that evenings visit. They have been compassionate and warm to all of us throughout our treatments for our pup. I am in tears almost everytime we are in there and I feel they care almost as much as I do for our little guy. They have been extremely helpful with advice and I have to say in comparison to the other hospitals we have used, they are very reasonably priced.Read Less

I remember taking my pets to this office about 15 years ago and getting a ""bad vibe"". However, I moved out of State and just moved back after 13 years. I had a pet who was in the process of dying and in serious pain. When I took the animal in, to have him put to sleep I sensed again a cold feeling in the office. No compassion. Moreover, when we went back to the room where the proceedure was to occur, they insisted I pay them right then, asking me to write the check on the cold steel table my dying pet was laying on. When the Vet came in and I expressed my concern over this ""Payment Practice"", he simply shrugged his shoulders and suggested I could take my pet to another vet. He was very condescending and insensitive. Well, taking my Pet to another vet is EXACTLY WHAT I DID!!! I found a compasionate Vet at the Companion Animal Clinic on 286 and would never set foot in East Suburban Animal Hospital again. It's my resolute opinion that they could care less about Pets, but care only about YOUR MONEY. Read Less

I became a customer here when I was 14 with my first guinea pig, at the old location, ans brought in several birds as well. ..now my kids each have a piggie (currently 3 piggies). I've taken all 3 of my dogs here; god rest bear, my first born. If it wasn't for the quick action and attentiveness of Dr houlihan and Dr St John towards loki, he wouldn't have made it to his 2nd birthday with his unrelenting form of epilepsy. Bear wouldn't have had the last 2 years of her life without Dr S and houlihan. Dr S gave me hope and a care package to temporarily "fix" her of the stubborn diabetes. Dr houlihan was always there for any questions or concerns up to the bitter end...just a phone call away!! The staff is absolutely wonderful! They recognize me and my furbabies whenever I come in and are always sympathetic when I call in all spastic. Highly recommend this vet practiceRead Less

Read Less

They do not care about your pet. Came in because my dog was feeling bloated and they did a fecal, urine, blood test, water test, wanted to put her in an ultrasound machine, and then prefer another scope test. All totaling $800 in three days. I'm going to find a new vet that cares about my animal, not about money. Read Less

We have been happy with the services of ESAH since 1992- and trust me- I am one neurotic pet owner. They compassionatly saw us throught the entire life/death of one of our dogs- and we are quite satisified with the surgeries, check ups, and follow up care that our present 2 dogs have received. We schedule our check ups with Dr Miller-but have seen all of the docs in the practice ( through the years ) through the years and always felt we ( and our dogs ) were in competent care. I highly recommend this group. Read Less

I have to disagree with the above post. Our puppy has been seen there for the past 8 months by various vets within their practice.

Read Less
