My first time at Fort Washington Pa vet on Tuesday Nov 7 2017 and brought my baby Peanut in for a skin issue and Dr Lance Horwitz that is a specialist in Dermatology was fantastic in finding out what was going on and now being treated . I can not thank Dr. Schultz and the rest of the staff at Fort Washington Vet for the genuine care my cat has received the last two weeks!! I received a prompt return phone call and had an appointment a few hours later. Dr. S was so thorough and took the time to explain everything in detail regarding my cats health. I have been going to FWVH for over 30 plus years and I still love the practice. I always go to Dr. Horwitz who has such a kind and gentle way with our dogs. He often sat on the floor with  them and was always so reassuring that my dogs loved going to see him! Any of the staff are competent but in my opinion, Dr. Horowitz is at the top. Who you see makes a BIG difference, and it's worth trying all and then requesting the same vet for each visit. I think it makes a difference. I once forgot to request a female vet because my dog is terrified of men. We got a male vet. He got on all fours to examine her- legitimately was on the ground talking to her. Tonight we brought our sick dog in for her final trip. While the office was extremely busy, you would have thought we were the only ones here. I cannot put into words how exceptional the staff was with us, and how well they treated our beloved pet. For something they do all the time, you could see the compassion in every single team member. We have been with this vet many years and cannot begin to say enough about them. Truly compassionate and overwhelmingly helpful in a very tough time for us. Thank you for all you did and the detailed advice you have us. We left feeling like we did the right thing without pressure or grief. I wish there was an option for more stars, 5 doesn't seem enough. Dr Berman and every other Dr we dealt with here always had our dogs best interest at heart. They stay very busy, but have always been extremely helpful and loving. Read Less

I cannot say too many good things about Dr. Jeff Berman at Fort Washington Veterinary Hospital.  Our dog Jasper was homeless for an unknown amount of time after being dumped in a park near our home and he tends to be skittish around men he doesn't know.  Dr. Berman won his trust very rapidly. He is kind, caring and expert.  We went to him for veterinary acupuncture and we saw immediate results.  Highly recommended. Read Less

Most reviews here are for dogs, so I want to put it out there that these guys are great with cats too! Let me start by saying that my cat, Tan Tan, is my baby. My husband and I are so attached to him that we actually installed cameras in our house just so we could monitor him during the day (and yes, he sleeps all day like most cats). On our honeymoon, we required daily updates from our friend/family who were babysitting him while we were gone. So yes, we are obsessed with him and we are not ashamed to admit it. The last few years, he went to another vet who only treated cats. We picked that particular practice because we wanted to give him as stress-free an environment as possible. Unfortunately, we moved and that vet is now pretty far away. We still brought him back to the same vet once after we moved, but his meows during the car ride were killing us, so we decided to search for a vet that's closer to home. We looked all over for a vet around Fort Washington that specialized in cats. When we couldn't find any, I poured through all the reviews of all the local vets trying to find a place with good cat reviews (couldn't really find anyone with enough reviews). I was still undecided on a place when one day, as I was playing with Tan Tan, I noticed something white wiggling in his butt (yep he has tapeworm). I was puzzled (he is an indoor cat) and panicky (I still haven't found a vet for him locally yet!) at the same time. Since I wanted to get him to a vet as quickly as possible, and my husband was not able to help me due to his busy schedule, I decided to give Fort Washington Vet Hospital a try since they are closest to our home. I called and was able to get an appointment within a reasonable time. Tan Tan is a very gentle cat who loves people, so I can't really tell how they handle aggressive cats, but both the vet (Dr. Schultz) and vet techs were gentle and caring during the encounter.  They took a thorough history, asked all the right questions, and did everything necessary to deworm him. Now Tan Tan has always been a big boy and apparently has gained more weight despite us putting him on a strict diet (from 19 to 21 lbs). I was given suggestions on how to tackle his weight issue, and they did a CBC to check his glucose, etc., to make sure he doesn't have diabetes. They called with the results within 24 hours (clean bill of health!) The bill was expensive but for all the things they had to do (deworming, flea meds, stool sample, CBC, etc.) I thought it was pretty reasonable. I am pretty happy with my first experience there and will probably continue taking Tan Tan back in the future. Read Less

The only reason I'm giving them 2 starts was dr o's husband fixed my dogs neck. But while recovering she had problems swallowing and this was due to scar tissue after the surgery and she can only eat mushed up food. Dr.O said it was another disease and lied to my face saying she knows it may seem like a coincidence but it's just more medicine she's have to take forever. Bull S !!! They didn't want to admit anything because it would be negligence. Never went back and never will go ever again ! Read Less

Worst staff I have ever dealt with. Regularly running late on appointments and do not even attempt to keep customers aware of the situation. Will be looking to change vets asap. I would highly recommend going to a different vet. Doctor berman is fantastic but every other vet that I have met with I rude and condescending. Read Less

I've been going to Ft. Washington with my dogs since 2008. First with My Shar Pei mix, referred there due to her skin problems because Dr. Horwitz has a specialty in animal dermatology. He got her back in good shape and she hasn't had a problem since. My pittie Has recurring skin issues common to the breed and Dr. Horwitz's expertise has helped so much in figuring out how to minimize recurrances. Dr. Schultz did a great job pulling the Shar Pei's tooth, what remained after she broke it chewing on a kennel bar in boarding. It's very delicate surgery but was done perfectly and healed with no problems whatsoever. She sees her for vaccinations too and is good at handling her. Dr. Berman was amazing with the Shar Pei extracting urine with a needle from her bladder as part of diagnosis of her kidney disease. She stood still for him, and even though we were also feeding her cheese for her to stay still through this procedure, which wasn't going quickly due to her condition, was something, as she has always had a very high anxiety personality and is very wiggly. The staff of techs are so awesome and friendly and good dog handlers. Both my dogs can be a challenge to handle. Appointments are easy to get within short period of time, the office staff are so friendly and pleasant! I like that the location is in a nice low traffic area. I moved to Chester County 2 years ago and still travel the 40 miles to Ft. Washington for my vet needs. I'm not too far from Metropolitan Emergency facility for pets if I need it. Read Less

They took care of my rescue before I became his owner. Since I adopted Axel we've gone back to Ft. Washington and they've been great with him. He's very happy to go to the vet and responds well to their great staff. They're helpful with education for the owner and helpful when you need an appointment they will get you in. Just wanted to thank the amazing staff of Fort Washington Veterinary Hospital for their help with a lost dog we found today running in traffic on a very busy road. We have been bringing our own dog to Dr. Berman for the last twelve years and have always loved them. When the dog's own vet couldn't help us I called Fort Washington and they told me to bring the dog right over and immediately looked up chip information, made phone calls, etc. The staff stayed right up until closing to help me find the dog's owner. This place is the best and today I saw how much each and every one of the staff members truly care about animals. I have been going here forever.  Don't recommend seeing Dr Orsher.  She told me my dog definitely had cancer and she didn't.  She also told my nephew the same thing about his dog and he didn't.  Dr. Berman is OK, but my recommendation would be Dr. Horwitz.  He is the most caring.  He is semi-retired and only there 3 days a week but worth the wait. We have been taking our boys to Fort Washington Veterinary Hospital for 12 years. Dr. Berman was always our go to doctor but we have seen others as well. Last night we had to put our beloved Seamus to rest and Dr. Janet Schultz and the rest of the staff could not have been more loving and compassionate and that helped us immensely. We love Dr. Berman!! He is the best vet :-) in 2001 when we were away he picked up our dog from the kennel in HIS car to bring her in for checking when she got sick. If that isn't a great dr. we don't know what is!! All of our animals love him! Of course Dr. Cohan & Dr. Dale are also favorites who we trust very much! Just moved back to the area and based my vet decision off online reviews.. and I am thrilled! The Ft. Washington Vet was even better than my vet in California and I loved my vet there. For once, I didn't mind paying the exam fee because Dr. Dale came in and spent a lot of time with me and my puppy. My pup is leery of strangers and Dr. Dale approached him slowly, spent some time petting him, talking to him and getting him to do some tricks before he began the very thorough exam. It was the most time any actual Vet (the doctor, not vet tech) had ever spent with my puppy. The women at the front desk have always been very friendly: from the 1st phone call, to walking in the door, to calling me when I forgot something. They even have a professional dog trainer on staff!
