My 14 year old cat got a bad wound on her neck. She is terrified of everyone who doesn't live in our house and will hiss, bite and completely freak out at strangers. I'd never used Glenolden Animal Hospital before. I called them on a Sunday and they had an appointment later that day. I can't say enough about the quality of care my cat received. They were so kind, didn't seem annoyed by her bad behavior, and really seemed sympathetic towards my cat and how scared she was. Dr. Sprowls and her staff worked magic on the wound and by the two week checkup, the wound is completely closed up and fur is growing back. No stitches, no overnight stay required. I'm amazed. My family took our dog to see Dr Mayer and had the most terrible experience with her. She notified my family of my dog's blood test and check up but failed to mention multiple things. She "recommended" us that our dog needed an ultrasound because he might be at a risk for a syndrome. When I personally called Dr Mayer to discuss about my dog, I asked HER about the my dog's blood test. It turns out that it was abnormal, but she failed to mention to my family who was AT the vet. Because she seemed uncaring towards our dog, my family was reluctant to follow her advice because we felt that her medical advice was invalid and just wanted us to pay an unnecessary expensive cost. However, on the other hand, Dr Reider was not only caring but also very informative. My family had to take him to the vet again because he was not being himself. When my golden retriever was dying of cancer but at the time we didn't know what was going on with her we took her here and had her checked out. They found a blockage in her intestines they wanted to keep her over night and have her hooked up to machines. My mother said to the vet that we disnt have the money (which is true) and that she rather have her home for her last day with a family who loves her so much. The vet then called my mom a horrible owner and that we are killing our dog. All because we didn't have the money and we wanted her home for her last day to shower her with so much love. Read Less

My SUSHI is not feeling herself...Being fairly new to being kitty owner...or I guess I should say...never knew I love having kittys...I find myself googling and asking others questions about what happening to mine.Here I am at the Glenolden Animal Hospital....Sushi has been acting strangely...feels a warm to touch...plus wants nothing to do with me or food...The dr. discovered...that Sushi chipped her front tooth. That would explain why she was darting from room to room like she saw a ghost...the pain was something my Sushi knew nothing about ...they also commented on how heavy she was......she weighted in at 20-pounds...about 6 to 8 pounds tooo much for her age..shes alittle over 2 years old. Sushi loves to eat, taps her sister(SAKI) to get her to leave her bowl..more for Sushi... lolAnyways... I have had both  kittys here before...the drs...do a wonderful job with the animals...They are always very courtesy, and thoroughly and take the time needed.If they are not definitely sure...they do the research and get back to you.They always follow up with calls next day and days after if needed.Paperwork is always typed out what was done, what may need to be done.Prices and calculations for what may be coming your way... so if need to look back or just have it for your files, you will.I will definitely be back to follow up on their shots...Come and check them out...I'm sure you will feel as comfortable as I do! Good people that love animals, the doctors are amazing the staff is caring and love animals and it shows in their work. However it's really tough to get out of that place without them telling you 25 different things like I used car lot. To keep pushing and pushing and pushing for you to buy something else on your way out the door they must be on commission there. Extremely caring and knowledgeable staff.  We have been going there for 10 1/2 yrs.  since Bella was a puppy.  An example is a vet tech was giving Bella her weekly laser therapy and noticed something off with her eye and had the Vet check it. Went here for over 15 years until they went against my wishes! I took my 15 wk old Cavalier Charlotte for a checkup I insisted to have her 2 vaccines spaced out! They did not listen and she had a reaction as a result and I had to spend $71 for emergency services after they did not listen to my request when it really should of been free assholes! One of their techs injected her with fluids she had a big bubble for hours and when she got it she screamed. The tech was rather rough he grabbed her under the belly and now she yipes whenever I pick her up. I asked for a reimbursement they simply went along with my other request to email my records for both my dogs. Fine with me if you don't abide by how I want to do things you don't deserve my money! I would start naming doctors but I have had a bad experience with all of them including the owner Dr. RANDAL RIEDER. After, they would not reimburse me for the er visit I am taking legal action and if they do not reimburse me I will file a complaint with the veterinary board of medicine I have the breeder and her doctors on my side no one fucks with my dogs!        My other dog my golden retriever Colin, has hypothyroidism that I feel they are responsible for. If you are not familiar with purebreds its asking for lawsuits. They tried telling me my dog was getting lipomas as a result of not being neutered he was 8 months old and I know that now to be complete BULLSHIT. When in fact it was due to them over lvaccinating him with unnecessary vaccines like lyme and bordatella. I got him neutered and guess what he kept getting fatty tumors until I stopped with the lyme vaccine. He also developed hypothyroidism his breed is predisposed to it if they are sterilized before 1 year of age 3xs the risk they never told me the potential risks so now I am the one who has to pay for bloodwork every 6 months, just to continue to receive refills for his medication. They will lie and deny facts because they want your dog sick that is how they make their money! My other golden Kerry was spayed at 6 months she died from lymphoma again another risk of early sterilization it was proven to be a factor in their short lifespan!HE IS ALSO ALLERGIC TO HEARTGARD THEY TRIED TELLING ME TO GIVE IT TO HIM BECAUSE HE NEEDED IT. HIS SKIN WOULD GET RED SCALY AND ITCHY AND HE WOULD HAVE HAIRLOSS. WHY WOULD I LET MY DOG SUFFER FOR SOMETHING THAT REALLY ISN'T HELPING HIM!DO NOT COME HERE! A wonderful vet hospital that shows their interest and care for pets. They've designed and developed their facility to provide convenient hours, as well as careful consideration for the pets. I was so pleased to find they had introduced a dog entrance, and a cat entrance. And the 'cat' rooms are treated with a calming agent to help reduce the stress on visiting cats. I just went in for my first time the other day. They have a coupon for a free first visit. My cat was sick, and they had an opening that day. The vet, Alexis Mayer was very nice and explained what she was doing and what was wrong with my pet. I woke up this morning to my 9 yr old cat having a fever.  I called the vet only a few blocks away from me and no answer. I called another vet who said they weren't taking anymore appointments for the day and was referred to an emergency vet who charged over $100 just for the office visit which is crazy to me since this is middle of the day THURSDAY and not overnight or weekend hours.  Anyway, I found this vet on Yelp, called them up and (yay!) I can bring her in right away! I was told the office visit was regularly $57 but since this was a first time visit, all I had to do was fill out a quick online form and it would be discounted (which turned out to be completely waived!!!) when I got there.  I was completely impressed when I pulled up because there is a "Cat Entrance" and a "Dog Entrance".  As soon as I brought her inside, the woman at the front desk brings over a towel she explained had been treated with Calming Spray and gently covered her carrier while we waited.  The office was extremely clean and not even the usual animal smell that hits you at the door!  Plenty of seating (benches and NOT those hard chairs they usually have).  The wait was no more than a few minutes, definitely less than ten before we were called back.  The staff was extremely friendly and broke down the charges on a printout because I had informed them from the beginning I was on a tight budget and was worried about how I was going to afford this.  They made suggestions on  what was probably necessary to deal with today and what I could bring her back for, if need be, later.  I LOVE THIS PLACE.  I have taken my cats over the years to many different vets, from low cost clinics to cats only specialists and for the price AND the special attention my cat received, this is where I will be returning from now on as long as I live in the area.I've never been so compelled to write a review before now.  This is my first! If you want to be traumatized as well as your pet, then come to this vet clinic. You will encounter absolute rage when you have to wait 30 plus minutes for an appointment that was scheduled 6 months ago! The front staff along with the technicians and doctors are so arrogant.  Never once has my pet been taken back for their scheduled appointment on time! There would be times where there are no other pets in the office, and yet my appointment still does not begin when scheduled. This is not ok, not respectful,  not caring and not professional. There is no sense of urgency in this place and they just could care less that you have a confined pet whose nerves are raw from the anxiety of waiting so long. Honestly, I wasn't thrilled. I can't say that the staff was uncaring to my two cats.  Quite the  opposite... they recommended a battery of care that rivaled Blue Cross. For my 15 year old cat, that would have included a cardiac consult for a heart murmur to enable a dental cleaning (up to $2500).  When pushed, she admitted her teeth looked good for her age.  For my rescued male, it was almost the same ($2k) to treat an abscessed bite.  The excessive antibiotics resulted in chronic diarrhea lasting almost six months which they diagnosed as IBS and prescribed $40 a bag food (6lbs).  When I asked the rescue what they normally pay for the same abscess treatment ($4-500), I realized I am paying somebody's student loans.Again, nice people and they seem very knowledgeable but I have to question why my care costs at another vet have been a vastly different price point.  Same cats, same issues, far less dollars...you can draw your own conclusions. I am a relatively new client at Glenolden animal hospital. I was referred to them by my son and the previous owner of my dog. They were very highly recommended by both. My personal experience with them has been very reassuring that they absolutely have my dog's best interest at heart. They are very professional and informative. They did not rush through the visit. Their exam and my dogs care was very thorough. They listened to my concerns and made me feel that my input was welcomed and important. So I was left with a feeling that the plan for Ginger's care was one that we arrived at together. They love our pets. That is obvious the moment you walk in the door. Although Ginger is extremely nervous when she gets there, she loves the vets. Especially Dr.St. John, and they love her! That means everything to me. I had been going to Glenolden Animal Hospital for several years, when another vet opened up closer to my house. I switched to that vet, but then came to regret it. That new vet misdiagnosed brain cancer in my cat as a benign tumor, causing my cat undue suffering until he died. That was after we spent $3,000 on an MRI and came home with no cat. Anyway, I returned to Glenolden Animal Hospital and am glad I did. I feel confident in the variety of doctors available there. They can perform many services and have always treated my cats with compassion and respect. I feel the vets there are highly experienced and competent. I feel much more comfortable at Glenolden Animal Hospital than with any other vet I have tried. They have always been able to see my cats promptly, and when I had to put down another one of my beloved felines, the hospital sent me the most comforting condolence card with her paw print and a poem. That brought me a tremendous amount of comfort to know that someone cared. Their prices are very reasonable and they work with credit and insurance companies as well. I brought my rabbit here because there arent many vets in this area that spay rabbits. The staff from the front desk to the vet assist weren't very helpful in communication. I felt awkward being there. When my rabbit got her nails trimmed the vet actually hit a vein and I didnt realize until I got home she bled. Im sure it was a mistake though.. Although staff was very polite and friendly over the phone, and also at our visit, didn't feel like there was good communication between everyone.  The vet dr made me feel like i was asking too many questions.  I asked the vet tech once if this new stray we found could have his ears cleaned, sure no problem...I asked the vet dr if our new stray could get his ears cleaned, sure no problem...was never done.  Fast forward two weeks later, Im bringing in this stray for a bath an "soft paws" I ask can you please clean his ears, hes always itching them,(I already did two treatments for ear mites) sure no problem.  Long story short...(too late) I was never told not to feed him incase they needed to sedate him, I was never told I had to purchase the soft paws myself an bring them with me, and of course..you guessed it...they never cleaned my stray cat's ears...not returning to say the least.... I am so happy with the care I've received for my cat here.  We moved to Delco six months ago and tried a few other vets.  One was fine, but way too expensive.  In an emergency, we went to VCA Old Marple, where they tried a hard sell on my husband to spend thousands of dollars on a cat with a terminal condition.  They put crazy pressure on him when he just wanted to call me to consult about the cost!  Not okay. Finally, I took our cat here, and I couldn't be happier.  The staff is friendly, helpful, and really went out of their way to make my cat feel better.  Most importantly, I felt like the vet understood my concerns about end-of-life care for my cat, and really listened to me and took his time to go over our options.  Finally, they have the best prices I've found in the area.  So happy I found this vet. I am thrilled with this vet and especially with Dr. Sprowls. I came from a very bad experience at a vet in Wissahickon.  The difference is night and day. I live in DC, but I went home to PA recently to visit my sick mother. Much to my dismay, her cat was also in need of medical attention. I ended up at Glenolden because a lifelong friend works there. Now, that relationship probably makes me biased, but my mother's cat and I had a great experience there. They were tender with the cranky, sick, old feline, who was just a mess. There aren't enough words to describe how much we love Glenolden. We live in Philadelphia, and we love Glenolden so much we've considered moving closer to them when we move out of the city. The entire staff is absolutely amazing, kind, caring and compassionate. The techs and front desk staff have brought tears to my eyes with their obvious love for animals. When my dog suddenly developed a fear of going into the vet's office (for no good reason), Christy at the front desk saw me struggling to get her out of the car. She immediately came outside, and started to engage my terrified dog with her words of love and support. Stella, my dog, happily hopped out of the car. We normally see Dr Sprowls (who we absolutely love), but we've seen most of the vets and we would recommend any of them. Unlike most other vets I've ever been to, everyone at this office genuinely cares about you and your pet. When we had to go to the ER Vet at midnight, Christy at Glenolden called first thing the next morning to find out how Stella was doing. They have always answered all of my questions (whether they were in person, over the phone, required a visit, didn't, etc), the prices have always been reasonable (we've had a few surgeries, and the price is always well within - never exceeding - the written estimates we're provided with), and you can't beat the hours (7 days a week!).
