Took my 2 year old chihuahua to them for a neuter and a lump removal. I'm very pleased with the vet I had and the girls at the front desk were very nice. They explain pricing to you step by step so there's no surprises. My baby had to stay over night which is their policy for a neuter. I called numerous times to check on him and they took the time to talk to me and tell me what he was doing and if he ate or not. I will be taking my pets there from now on. Also it's very clean and you don't wait forever to see the vet. Show up at your appointment time and maybe wait 10-15 mins until you see the vet, at other places I've waited upwards to an hour even with an appointment. Read Less

I called hoping to get my dog seen for a second opinion, in a pretty urgent situation (possible bloat). They were rude to me on the phone and said my dog could not be seen for several days, even after I explained the situation and my concerns. For a large hospital with an emergency department, I’m incredibly disappointed with their lack of availability and response to me. I had high hopes after reading all the great reviews, that they would be accommodating, but they were not. When I asked if anything sooner was available, the woman on the line got very rude and said no, not even for an emergency. I fail to see how something is an emergency if it can wait several days. I had an emergency with my dog and unfortunately, my normal vet no longer handles emergencies. So I called Harleysville and they were able to get me in within 2 hours (although I don't think they take new clients as emergencies normally). I am thankful they were able to do this, as I was pretty worried (and going on vacation the next day). Turned out, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was. One of the better vets in the area. Worth the drive. We deal with Dr. Wagner who is great with our cats, never over charged us or pushes us to spend more than we can afford. He always seems to have the best interest in our pets. I take away a star with some of the front desk help as a few are difficult to deal with some days and others when I call to have meds called in to CVS, I almost always have to call back and remind them. We have been going to Harleysville for 16 years. I was referred there years ago and found out it was much less expensive than two of the vets closer to my home.  I asked the owner why he was so much less and he said he wanted vet care to be affordable for everyone. I told him he just got my business for life.  The doctors there are professional, well trained, and caring. We especially like Dr. Hawkins. We have owned many animals and before finding Harleysville had gone to a number of different veterinary hospitals and none even came close to the care and value we get now. Read Less

Can't say enough good things about this office. They're the most honest and caring practice around not to mention their prices are the most reasonable as well. My little big guy had to go in for a tooth extraction. They made him feel right at home and took great care of him, also cleaned the rest of his teeth and did a nail trim! They have a customer and a patient for life I will drive 40 minutes and pass multiple vets to come here as well as tell all my friends and family to come here with their fur babies. Harleysville Vet Hospital is totally deserving of the raves they've received so far and of mine too!  While I only recently got a dog and started bringing him here my family has treated all our animals here for about a decade.  They've helped us maneuver difficult questions around amputations, figured out cost effective ways to treat chronic allergy issues in an aging cat, and diagnosed cancer relatively early in two dogs, allowing us to watch for signs of suffering and alleviate pain as long as possible.  They really seem to care about you and your pet, are knowledgeable in care options and recommendations, and are courteous and helpful with setting appointments, getting products/prescriptions, and checking in/out.  What more can you ask for from your friendly neighborhood vet?  Definitely the first choice for pet care! We started coming here after being extremely unhappy with our current vet and it has so far been a great decision! We've only seen Dr. Kelly and Dr. Carpenter and both were very compassionate and thorough to our little furbabies. We mainly see Dr. Carpenter now and she always takes the time to answer our questions and explains everything in detail. We never feel rushed. The front office staff are equally as nice. Sometimes it can take a little while to check out depending on how many people are checking in/out but the staff does well to expedite as much as possible. We love it here! Read Less

Caring staff and their website is well designed. Dr. Hawkins is our favorite doc but all of them are great. The staff and nurses are compassionate as well. EXTREMELY UPSET with this vet hospital. Took my dog there to be spayed and was quoted $450. When I went to pick up my dog- the girl who released her to me knew absolutely nothing about my dog and was completely clueless. She told me to give my dog double the pain medicine that was actually supposed to be given, and told me to call the office the next day to figure out what her recovery would be like because she didn't know. Just completely clueless. Anyways, a few days later I get a bill in the mail for $763 for the surgery and Harleysville won't do anything about it except apologize for quoting me $450. Clueless liars work there. I would not suggest to anyone, and my dog or any animal I own will never be going here again. Read Less

I've been bringing my dogs here since 1995. I guess that says it all....21 years and counting. And I don't live close by, so it's a trip for me. The care here is excellent from both the Vets and the Staff. They all go the extra mile in caring for your pet, especially during some rough times. This place is great! I will go back here in a heartbeat. I have been to vets all over the area for everything from checkups, to shots, to having a professional vet examine my dogs and cats concerns.Harleysville vet is honest and adorable. Not sure if it is because we were dealing with the one of the owners or not, but they really seam to care. They also dont seem to take advantage but making you drain your wallet as most of these places do.My pet needed a tooth extraction and full dental scan/cleaning. After running blood work a few weeks prior and then even before the schedule appoint including being place under anesthesia, they opted not to continue because they were more concerned about glucose levels.I feel like the other two places we visited for this same issue would have just moved forward placing my pet at risk. They both wanted an upward of around $800, Harleysville was around $400 total on two different trips.Dr. Wagner even cared enough to do some research in between talking to me in the morning and when we picked up our pet in the afternoon which I greatly appreciated. I like this place even more so since they greatly improved on waiting time. I used to wait for 30 mns, now it is less than 15 mns and often less than 5 mns. One time, I even said what time I needed to be out by and they accommodated accordingly. The vets are polite and competent. The receptionists do a good job. My family and I have been going to this vet for over 20 years, and most of our experiences have been great. I do trust them. However, my most recent experience caused a lot of unnecessary inconvenience that could have easily been avoided. The vet called me saying she wanted to do a urinalysis on my dog. She didn't tell me how much urine to bring in, that it should be the first urine of the day or that it had to be within 24 hours. When I called to find out the amount needed for testing, I was told the office had collection containers that were marked to show measurement. The next day, after bringing in the urine I collected and being told it might not work because it was slightly over 24 hours, I asked for one of their containers and was told they didn't have any. Still, they took the 24+ hour sample I had and told me they would let me know. Now I don't know if this test will be accurate, and so I'll probably end up paying for another. Read Less

They are the best and most reasonably priced vet in this area. We bring all of our pets here. It's a very, very busy office, but it's managed very well. Sometimes the wait times for check out get kind of long, but they are going as fast and as efficiently as they can...it's just really busy. All of the doctors we've seen are kind and knowledgeable. I will never forget when over a year ago Dr. Brown had to put down my beloved German Shepherd, Hannah. Dr. Brown had been Hannah's Vet since she was a pup and actually had tears in her eyes when we said our good-byes. She shared her own personal losses which provided much comfort and support. My young adult daughter had a sick puppy and they were sensitive to her financial situation and tried to accommodate her by ordering less expensive tests first, and suggesting treatments that were a little less expensive too. Dr. Brown has been treating both of my dogs for over 5 years. She cared for my mangy, parasite ridden rescue puppy when I adopted her in 2004. She counseled me through the surgery for intervertebral disc disease on my other dog, provided excellent follow up care and even helped me measure my dog for a cart. She performed surgery on my other dog for mast cell cancer and has ALWAYS gone out of her way to answer every question and deliver the answers in a very professional, yet compassionate manner. She takes the time to explain EVERYTHING in detail and give every option. My dogs LOVE her. I could not ask for a better vet. I was referred to her by a friend and I am so lucky to have such a great vet so close to my home. I also take my dog there to get her nails clipped and her ears cleaned. I’ve met most- if not all -of the other vets at this office and do not have a reason to complain about anyone there. As for the cost, vet care is expensive and is one of the biggest considerations when choosing to adopt a pet. Harleysville Vet was a wonderful place to take my cats a few years back because doctors always had my cats best interests at heart. But, my last visit about 8 weeks ago proved that things have really changed there, and it dissapointed me. I haven't been to the vet in almost a year, and I brought my 4 week old kitten Zoey in for a visit because she was having some bladder issues. The receptionests were rude and not helpful, as they used to be. The doctor that we saw was impersonal and didn't seem like he was interested in helping us. He didn't ask too many questions, and seemed quick to get the visit over with. The office visit rates were very high, and there was no explanation for why our baby was having such difficultly emptying her bladder. The Vet recommended some things for further testing, but with the economy being the way it is, everything was so out of our reach. He said, ""I don't deal with people's financial burdons, I just try to figure out the problem with their pets."" When we asked if there was a way to do these tests in payments, he said, ""We don't put care on credit."" I was so upset. Here I was holding a 4 week old kitten in pain, and she was not getting the help she needed. He stated bluntly before showing us out, ""Well, she'll either out grow it, or she will die. Lets hope for the best."" I looked down at my baby and began to cry. We have now switched vets to Dr. Rossi in Lansdale. Not only were they able to help my now 12 week old toddler kitten, but they offered something called ""Care Credit."" It is like a credit card used for vet visits.
