My cat passed away 3 weeks ago at the age of 19.  We took her to hopewell to be creamated and get her ashes back.  Two days later they sent a condolence card.  The other day i received a plaque with her name it and a poem.   I was very touched.   My son takes his dog there and they are amazing.  I am going to wait before getting another cat and def will be taking her there.  Thank you hopewell Read Less

I just brought my cat here with a possible allergy or sinus issue. The staff was great and very attentive. The facility is beautiful and clean. The building looks like it was a house at one point a long time ago. They did a great job updating it!Dr. Cooper Carty was sweet and professional when my cat started being a huge butthead (sorry again about that!) She brought in a tech and they both knew exactly what to do to get him sedated so they could give him a thorough exam. I know they have to be prepared to deal with unpredictable pets, but I was impressed with how fast they got to him, and felt he was safe the whole time. My cat suffers from some serious issues,  both physical and behavioral. As the last of his litter, he didn't form completely.  His outward appearance is fine, except for his tail, which ends halfway in a stump. Inside, his organs are somewhat fused and jumbled, and his neutering took twice as long as his brother's.He has awful allergies -- no poultry including duck, no egg, no lamb (that's the worst.) And he also stresses over everything.  When I'm away for too long, or when we tried new litter (never again!) or when there are fireworks in hearing distance or even if we have company staying for a few days...you name it, he gets sick. At home, he is the sweetest boy, very affectionate. Of course, he hates going to the vet.  He hisses and growls and cries...until we get to Hopewell.  He's miserable until one of the technicians and vets there come in and start talking to him.  Especially Dr. Rutkowski. When Leo sees him, his eyes go soft and he meows to him as if he's explaining his symptoms.  It's amazing and very comforting to me as his owner.  So we try hard not to take him anywhere else. What I love most about Hopewell Vet is that I trust them with my pets. The doctors are gentle, amazing people who speak with kind tones. My pets feel very comfy with them. The techs are knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The staff genuinely cares about their patients. I feel at home when I'm there and so do my pets. We are so glad to have found this vet when we moved to Cheltenham. Our kitty always feels comfortable once she gets in her exam room, she's allowed to roam the room and investigate every scent. We saw Dr. Rutowski tonight at 8 pm and he took the time to talk with us so we understood what was happening with the issue at hand. He didn't make us feel rushed even though it was the end of the night and he didn't try to sell us on the X-ray (what we originally came in for), he was honest and said he didn't think the X-ray would show the issue due to his exam. Hopewell is not only a fantastic vet, BUT they also rescue dogs and cats and put them up for adoption.  I adopted Yogi, or Yoyo, in March of this year through Hopewell.  He is the best dog, so sweet.  Ginny, the manager, has been saving dogs and cats for a long time.  I found Hopewell and Yogi by fate and am so happy that I did! We've seen a lot of vets for our dogs because my husband is active duty military. This is by far the BEST care we have ever had for our dogs. One of our dogs was sick when we moved to PA and our last vet said he had no idea what was wrong. The vet we saw at Hopewell immediately knew it was lymphoma and got him on meds to prolong his life. The medication was also very inexpensive. When it was time for him to be put down, they were willing to come to our house for a very reasonable price and even sent a card and plaque after he passed. We have also boarded our other dog numerous times here and they were wonderful to him. Highly recommend Hopewell for veterinary care and boarding. Read Less

Scheduled to just get a rabies shot for my dog. Verified cost with person on phone as $22. Arrived at appt. and left waiting. Started wondering if I was going to have to pay for exam as well, which my dog didn't need. I asked desk person. What I had feared was true...only doctor could give him his shot per desk person and had to charge $50 (prices went up) for exam, which my dog didn't need. I canceled appt. and left. Won't return there again. Had been happy there before this visit. Maybe someone else is running this vet office more like a business rather than healthcare for animals. Yesterday we had to make the necessary and heartbreaking decision to let our cat, Chester, go due to the wet form of FIP. From the time I called to the time I said goodbye, Dr. Tim and staff were kind, informative and helpful. As they always are. Whether it is Dr. Zahn making my neurotic tuxie fall more in love with her each visit (he's never been so relaxed at the vet and I swear he really does have a crush and wants to impress her). Or Dr. Tursi managing our Murray's heart condition (and his refusal to be fooled by pill pockets or stinky cheese). And Dr. Rutkowski, on a happier day, taking the time to answer this cat person's 1001 questions about her new puppy. I love the staff and Dr. Tim is great with our cat "Betty:. Unfortunately when we adopted her from a shelter she had ringworm and roundworm parasites. After a month we are still battling the intestinal parasites but we are on the right track with Dr. Tim. Thankfully the ringworm is gone. One down and one to go. This staff is very patient with me as I can be paranoid pet owner as I haven't owned a cat in 13 years till Betty. Hopewell Vet, we see Dr Zahn, was just fantastic with my old dog a malti-poo, Zen. He was 14 when we rescued each other & he passed this Feb at 18+ years. I moved into the area and this office is literally at my corner. After speaking to a few neighbors,  I decided to give them a go. I have a cat and a dog. The staff here are so friendly and helpful.  They also take care of you in a timely manner.  I've seen 2 of the vets here. The first one was amazing.  She was very gentle with my cat and went over some options  (she seems to be allergic to almost everything lol) we quickly found a remedy that works for her, and changed her food. And the bill did not break the bank! When I took my dog, I seen another woman. I asked to have the other vet see my dog after that visit bc she kept wanting to put my dog on medication for his anxiety,  his dry skin, even his barking. I don't think I should sedate my dog to where he is oblivious during the day while I'm at work.  Most importantly,  I did not take him in there for any of those reasons. Took him for his routine shots. She asked a lot of questions, leading up to her recommendations,  even after I told her I work with him for his anxiety and it is working fine. I do recommend this facility.  Just let your pets visit with the vets to see who you feel more comfortable with. Read Less

My daughter has a cat and have been coming here for years.  Every time we go in the vets are friendly and passionate for what they do.  I find their prices extremely fair and have good hours.  This last summer we took our cat (buzz) in for daily check up, and could not get him in his cage. Buzz is an indoor/outdoor cat.  So, silly me just put him in our car and my daughter held him to Hopewell.  We still could not get this sweet cat in the cage to bring inside.  So my daughter held him in the office  while I checked us in.  Two big dogs came in and barked and the cat ran out the front door.  ALL THREE GIRLS BEHIND THE COUNTER JUMPED UP AND RAN AFTER OUR CAT LIKE IT WAS THERE OWN.  My girls were devastated and crying. All of us running after Buzz.  He crossed the street and all, and hide under another cat owners deck. One of the girls finally got him and walked back to Hopewell.  I can honestly say it was easier giving birth then chasing that cat with my girls distraught. I would not recommend Dr. Rutkowski for rabbits. I brought my bun to see him for an oozing, sticky fluid coming out of my bunny's eyes. The medicine he gave me ($58) did not work. I needed to find another Vet at which time an eye culture was taken, and the culture came back positive for MRSA! Dr. Rutkowski should have taken this route, and cultured his eyes. He was put on different eye drops plus an oral med, and the situation cleared up. And may I say that the second round of drops and oral med were less expensive than the med that Dr. Rutkowski put him on....which did 'not' work. Read Less

We took our dogs here for a few years and everything was good. Then one day our sweet Eureka got very sick. We,called to get her in asap but they had no appointments. I explained it was,an emergency and she,was,hardly breathing. They couldn't squeeze us in . They were booked doing checkups. It seems after going there for so,long they could accomodate us, but no.  We scrambled to find another vet. luckily we found one and took here strait there. Sadly she died in the car on the way. I could kick myself for all the time I wasted going to other vets before I found Hopewell. Dr. Rutkowski is a fantastic veterinarian. Very thorough, takes time to explain everything to you and will patiently answer all of your (sometimes stupid) questions! He saved my cat's life a few years ago and now she's almost 17 years old and still thriving. I couldn't imagine going any place else for vet care now that I've discovered Hopewell and Dr. Rutkowski. I have yet to have less than an awesome experience here with my three pooches. For starters, the hours are so accommodating to all types of schedules and appointments are very easy to make. All of the staff are super nice and they have a great understanding of anxious and semi-neurotic dog moms like myself.  I have a small, medium and large breed and each dog receives care that is tailored to his individual needs and worries. All Of the vets and techs and extremely nice to all of my dogs and especially my rescue pit bull who is so nervous when it comes to sitting on metal tables and being prodded. They even send you helpful reminders for things like heartworm medication and vaccinations. I love this place!Update: one of my dogs was tragically killed on impact by a car and Hopewell was amazing when it came to arranging the cremation for us. This place is definitely a step above the rest in service to and compassion for it's clients. Read Less

We have now been going to this office for about 2 months-- first we had a 4 year old dog that needed a regular check up; Dr Lauren E. Zahn was awesome with him and we really enjoyed working with her. We then rescued our second dog about 6 weeks ago, and he was only 8 weeks old, again Dr Lauren E. Zahn was awesome with the second puppy and helped us in any way we needed.  Dr Lauren E. Zahn has been very sweet and gentle with both of our dogs-- and both of them love walking into the vet.  I would definitely recommend this vet to anyone looking for one and i would defintiely recommend Dr Lauren E. I really like the whole staff--from the people who answer the phone to the techs to the vet, everyone is just so nice and they all clearly love animals. We have been seeing Dr. Zahn and I really trust her. Her exams have been very thorough and she is one of those people that most definitely belongs in her career--she is so caring and gentle! She is also sure to answer my questions and her relaxed yet thorough and caring manner help to make the cat's vet visits stress-free. I l ive right by University of Pennsylvania Animal Hospital-one of the best in the country, but of course incredibly expensive. I am a grad student on a budget, so unless it is an emergency, I'd prefer to travel a little further for a good vet if the prices are more reasonable. I took Kirby to the Hopewell Veterinary Hospital in Jenkintown, PA. The staff was friendly, including the receptionists and the vet technician. I saw Dr. Rutkowski, one of the FEW vets outside UPenn who actually specialize in small/exotic pets. He was very good with Kirby and you could clearly see that he enjoys working with small animals. He took his time to look Kirby over and listened to what I had to say regarding my observations over the past week. Dr. Rutkowski explained to me different avenues we could take and I chose the more conservative approach first, taking into account my grad student budget. He completely understood and did not force me into costly procedures right off the bat. The bill was a fair and budget-friendly price, especially considering the positive experience that I had. Kirby is currently on antibiotics and seems to be doing well! I highly recommend Hopewell Animal Hospital for other guinea pig parents in the Philly area. Read Less

I found this place by recommendation, but after a few less than impressive visits I am having my doubts.The vet I use seems to know what he is going and I have no complaints about him, but the staff I am not impressed with.  Unfriendly, unprofessional,  mix up records and act like they don't want your business.  I am basing that on 4 or so incidents/visits.  No reminders or instructions when you bring a pet in for an appt.I've called their groomer to get a quote and found her so rude, I didn't bother considering her.  Employees outside smoking in plain site is also unprofessional.  My previous vet was outstanding, caring and seemed to know my pets and gave them friendly greetings upon visiting, but hopewell act like you are just another customer it seems.  I get the feeling no one wants to be there.When I call they can't get my two dogs names/sex/weight right and makes me wonder if they are giving the right shots in hindsight.  I'm not sure I will be returning.On the plus side, they have evening hours, which is great for people working.  Maybe if they replaced/refreshed the staff to be more personable and thorough I'd feel better about taking my pets there. Maybe they only cater to locals who grew up in the area.  YMMV. Read Less

I have used Hopewell for many years. I recently had to have my cat euthanized due to CRF. This is never easy. Dr. Lauren E. Zahn made it as positive an experience as possible. This is a great veterinary hospital.  I have been there with dogs and cats over the years and have seen every doctor there and have never been unhappy with the treatment of my pets.  The entire staff is always helpful and friendly.  When I had geriatric pets and had to have them put down, the staff was very sympathetic.They also have a boarding facility there that has been great. I brought my 4 and a half year old budgie for a check up because she seemed lethargic and had diarrhea. The front office staff was so nice and welcoming. Dr. Rutkowski was so gentle and kind with my budgie, and was not at all impatient when I asked him A LOT of questions. He took the time to answer me thoroughly and tell me exactly what was going on, and what steps will be taken next. I walked in a nervous wreck and left completely at ease. When I had to give my 20 year old Siamese SubQ fluids for over three years, I was there at least twice a week. And they were outstanding! When I put down two Cats and was a blubbering mess, they were outstanding.I had gone to another Vet for years until they ticked me off with the nickle and diming routine and indifference to my ailing puddy's seizures. I then went to to Hopewell and never regretted it.I haven't been there in a long time, and I know that Tim was working very hard at getting the place modernized, but I think when it comes to being a kind and caring place, they do a great job. I bring all my dogs here including my ferret before he passed away from old age. My favorite vet there (and I always see him) is Dr. Rutkowski (he also owns the hospital). He is an excellent vet, takes the time to explain things and is very caring/understanding. I highly recommend him if you should want to check Hopewell out. Not only does Hopewell do the routine vet care, they also started a grooming service (separate from the hospital) and you can also broad your animals there. They also participate in Pet Emergency Transport and Shelter (P.E.T.S.). This team started because of Katrina. They saw how owners would notwork with Red Cross because they were afraid of losing their pets (as we know they are family members, too). The team picks up animals from disaster sites and bring them directly to the hospital. They are looked over by Dr. Rutkowski and cleaned up. The pets are given a temporary home up to three days with NO CHARGE to the owner. I think this is an excellent service and just proves how dedicated Dr. Rutkowski and his entire staff is to protecting our pets and keeping them healthy. There are also adoption services with a $25.00 fee to cover the vaccination costs. They get quite a few cats/kittens so it is worth checking out if you are interested. They also get dogs but I see cats/kittens moreso. This vet is easy to get to. It's located right off of Huntingdon Pike (you make the left where Hollywood Tavern, make a right and follow the road to Cedar Ave, the dead end is Hopewell). The neighborhood is very nice and I feel safe traveling thru it at all hours of the day. Overall, I strongly recommend this vet to anyone who is looking for a new vet or has a new addition to their family and is unsure where to get the best care. Read Less
