This place just hasn't been the same since Dr. Jeffers retired. We've continued coming here due to the convenience of the location, but we're now shopping around for a new practice. I have been less and less satisfied with the care my dogs have received with each visit, and seem to be spending more and more. I just took my boy in for a vaccine, but was also charged a $54 exam fee. The doctor did listen to his heart, but his eyes/ears/teeth/joints/temperature were never even looked at, which I'm pretty sure are all supposed to be checked in a routine exam. In fact, I'm pretty sure his eyes and teeth haven't been checked in roughly two years.If you actually want the services you're paying for, look elsewhere. Read Less

Love pets best friends....... Caring vets. Emergency appts available..... They should be your vet...... Lost my baby Floyd, an 18 yr old mini jack Russell terrier, helped with End of life. He was very old n sick. The staff was awesome and things that they provided were awesome. They took his paw prints, took a lock of his hair, and they are in a small book and they have Cremation services, and a book with his paw prints, and lock of his hair came with it. They made it slightly easier.... I say slightly Because till this day I still tear up.... I miss my boy........ Now I take my Lily Pie to the vets there and wouldn't have it any other way. I’ve been bringing my dogs here since they were puppies. Now 10 year’s later with them being older they are always receiving excellent care. One dog Harper has had a boat load of medical issues and doctor Hoffman is always doing his best to make sure she gets the best treatment with her kidney and liver disease. Took my dog and cat to them for their yearly shots and a flea problem, they were understanding and wanted the best for both of my pets. They presented me with an itemized bill for both animals before proceeding which was great, since more often than not, you're not given a bill until it's too late and you're $700 in the hole. I have gone to two other vets in the area before I began taking my dogs to see Dr. Struening @ Pet's Best Friend. One dog has very bad back/spinal issues and has never taken to any of the other vets well. He is MUCH more comfortable with Dr. Struening! She and all of the staff there are absolutely incredible! The level of care and compassion they show my dogs (and to me) is above and beyond what I have ever experienced at another vet. They treat my dogs as if they are their own, and they treat us (the pet parents) with understanding, dignity and warmth. The doctor's and staff are genuinely kind, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and just all around amazing people!! My initial visit, and those after, plus the phone calls to them, and the calls I've received personally from Dr. Struening to check in on my dogs, have made such a lasting experience for me and my only regret is that I didn't go to them sooner! I am happy to know that all 6 of my 4 legged babies will be taken care of by this wonderful facility and it's amazing staff! I just recently started using this practice and I must say it's been a pleasurable experience. I needed to have my dog seen due to an eye injury and my dog wasn't a patient and they still were able to get me in. Because they were able to take me the same day and I had a wonderful experience with every employee on staff that day. We had an almost tragic accident occur between our two boxers a few months.  Like all boxers, are two guys are very energetic.  While playing, their collars intertwined and our younger boxer was choked unconscious.  It was very traumatic to the family.  This all occurred just prior to Pet's Best Friend closing for the night.  However, they stayed open for us and we were able to get him the help he needed.  Staff was great... caring and just as concerned as we were.  Our little guy made a full recovery... After 10 years it's time to say goodbye to this place.   Vet techs are outstanding but the vet doctors are cruel and money driven especially the diva male doctor with the bad attitude.  Hopefully he can see one day in his "Crystal ball" that he's not meant for this field.  Greed driven place.  No love for your pets from the doctors.   He tried to take my little baby straight to surgery when all she needed was IV fluids.  Thank you Plainfield hospital for being good to my doggie.  Shame on you Pets Best Friend for trying to play on my emotions then asking me if I had anymore credit cards.    You took advantage of me with Other two dogs but I caught on.   You took a lot of money for unnecessary things. We've been going to PBF for several years with our two cats. Dr. Jeffers was great. About 2 years ago, I brought our cat Kai in for a routine check up. Dr. Barenbaum intuitively felt something wasnt right. He had a severe uti-she saved his life. Fast forward a year, and she found a tumor in his chest. We went to a local specialty hospital for further diagnostics. They couldnt identify the tumor, and wanted to do a $10,000.00 surgery, followed up by chemo. Dr. Barenbaum suggested maintaining him on steroids and regular checkups. Kai is still happy and healthy a year later. Second time she saved his life. I couldn't be happier or more thankful and grateful for her and the PBF staff. They are skilled, always honest, always mindful of costs-and they treat your pets as family! Read Less

My shorthair had to have surgery and have a toe removed. Because of the severity of the cause, all of the testing and the surgery itself were done post haste. I could not have asked for better treatment for my pet ( son) ! All of the techs are fabulous and treat him like he is family , which makes going there for any reason so much easier and calming.The vets they have on staff are first rate in my opinion, and the office manager Rhonda, is the absolute best ! Our previous vet had to leave her practice due to serious health issues. We chose PBF because a neighbor took their dog there for 14 years. Our first visit was diagnosed our dog with thyroid after a full Sr blood panel. The pills worked and we were happy. Then same dog got pancritist (sp)?. More blood work, ID diet food and pain med and we went home. Hours later back where she was kept for two days on a IV fluid drip. Home again with more ID food and antibiotics. Happy to say she is slowly recovering. She was treated well as far as I know....however........my negative observations are: Waiting room and exam rooms were not sterile, made of old wood which was dingy and dirty, wood trim showed signs of urine. I did not see the kennel or tech rooms but they could not have been much better. No outside kennel area - they walked the dogs in the hospital on a small strip of grass by the pizza place next door. I wondered how many sick dogs contaminated that tiny strip of grass ?? There are a log of people working there. Other than the vet that I met you never knew who you were talking to. They identified themselves by name but not their function. When checking on my dog it took multiple phone calls while they "checked" with the "nurse" ???? Eventually called hours later. Finally, The pain meds from the very first visit were never opened as the dog wound up staying. I was charged $128 for just the pain meds. I requested a refund, the receptionist began to put a credit on the bill then someone else not a vet, not a tech - maybe a "nurse"? came running out and said NO refund they cannot be returned and had the credit reversed. I was told to keep them to use if my dog showed signs of pain - why would I self medicate for pain??? By now I am irate and told them to keep the pain medication for a needy dog or rescue.....they said NO they cannot do that. Then the discharge "nurse"? went over care instructions, had a bag with ID food and an estimate of tooth cleaning. I told her I should have 1/2 estimate as my dog only has half her teeth. The care instructions were contradictory to what the vet told us during our first visit. Who is training these people??? No one looked at the record notes and kept asking ME. So......to make a long story short........$1,200 dollars later, case of ID food, pain meds I cannot use and a teeth cleaning estimate of almost $600 I have my dog home recovering. Will never go back to that disorganized money grabbing dirty place.Read Less

Took our cat to PBF because he wasn't eating. He lost 7 pounds. He was also having a hard time breathing from all of the snot build up. This was thurs Feb 16,2017. Dr.Barenbaum had taken blood work,X-rays,and a physical. Her diagnosis was asthma. She gave us the meds to give to our cats,to help clear his nose,and eventually eat. The meds weren't working. We had called several times and left messages for Dr. Barenbaum to call us back,so we could get different meds,that may work better. Ours calls were never returned. We had a very sick cat that still wasn't eating,and getting weak,as he wasn't eating,and was losing weight. He had lost 7 pounds. My wife had called,and spoke with Jen. She told my wife to bring him down. Why would we have to bring him down,when they already did the blood work,and took the X-rays? Just read the notes or something,and change the meds. We ended up taking our cat to the Woodburne Clinic. They did an excellent job with our cat. The vet gave us different meds to give our cat. The vet was shocked at how much weight he lost,and how we weren't getting any help. Our cat is still recovering a week later.This went on more days than it should have. If our calls from PBF would have been returned,and better care given,our cat would be better by now. We will never use PBF again. Our pets are a big part of our family. I just started bringing my puppy, Chief to PBF. I've been seeing Dr. Barenbaum and I love her! She's spends time with us, answers all the questions we have, and She never makes us feel rushed. I have had nothing but good experiences since I started taking my Cattle Dog to PBF. We go here specifically for Dr Jeffers, but are happy to see any of the other veterinarians if we have to go in on a day where Dr J isn't available. I was a bit unsure about this place at first, as my dog is very reactive and the lobby is very cramped. However, they were happy to work with me, and allowed me to bring him in through the side or backdoors to avoid the lobby altogether. (Though I'm happy to say that that is no longer necessary!) All in all every employee is very understanding, kind and compassionate. I can't see myself taking my dog to any other practice.My only complaint is that Dr J is only available for appointments on Thursday afternoon/evenings, so it can be incredibly busy with long waits if you want to see her in particular. But that's a minor annoyance at most, and she is most definitely worth the wait! Read Less

I had to go to the facility because my Vet was working out of there while the building is getting remodeled. I would like to take a minute and thank the staff at pets best friend animal hospital. We had to bring our american bulldog in who had taken a turn for the worse and needed to be put down. Our baby would have been 12 in February and the staff were nothing but absolutely wonderful. They were very comforting, and explained everything to us so that we understood. We could not have asked for better staff. You made us feel a little bit more at ease with kind words, and compassion. You truly love your job and animals and we couldn't be anymore grateful to of had such excellent staff taking care of our Patch!! Dr. Barenbaum can't read an xray and told me when I brought my cat in for limping that the xray showed either fluid or a mass around her heart. I left there thinking my cat was going to die and they put her on two different meds. Long story short I got a second opinion and there is nothing wrong with her heart. We have been using Pet's Best Friend for several years now. Anytime I call to make an appointment they are always able to fit me in and if it is time for vaccinations they will call me to remind me. All the staff are great with my cats. I feel very comfortable when I have to leave any of my babies for any procedures.  All the staff and vets are very professional and very educated on all issues. I am so very fortunate to have found Pet's Best Friend, Dr, Jeffers, Brenda and everyone we came into contact with there today. After a horrific experience with another vet we were directed to Dr Jeffers. She is a wonder. Within 10 minutes of meeting my dog she had a pretty good idea of what was wrong and how to proceed. She treated my dog with care, kindness and compassion. She was generous with the time she took explaining everything to me and my husband. From the 1st phone call I made to get my pup in to see Dr. Jeffers to the end of the visit we were treated with kindness and respect. By we I am talking about both the humans and our dog. The poor girl has been suffering for a couple weeks with horrible pain and we just couldn't figure out where it originated. We took her to another vet where she was muzzled, manhandled and not diagnosed correctly. At Pet's Best Friend, Brenda took us back to the appointment room and was kind to our dog and listened to our concerns. When Dr Jeffers came in she listened to our horror story and immediately put us all at ease. She got down on the floor with our dog to talk to her and examine her. When it was apparent she needed x-rays she continually said to Brenda and the other vet tech, I don't want this sweet girl upset. She had a bad experience and I want to make sure she's not at all uncomfortable. She was given a muscle relaxer so they could get the x-Ray of her back without too much moving her around. They were wonderful. Dr Jeffers went over the x-rays with me and then discussed her plan. Not once did my dog bark or cry or show any signs of aggression or the awful fear she had at the previous vet towards the doctor or any of the staff at Pet's Best Friend. We are so lucky that we got to Dr Jeffers when we did. Our dog's back is a mess so no wonder she's been crying and yelping. She was given a chiropractic  adjustment and laser treatment by Brenda, which she sat through so calmly that she almost fell asleep. Quite a different scenario from the last vet who treated our dog like Cujo!!! On our way out the waiting room was packed with all sorts of dogs and cats. I spoke with several people and they all had nothing but the highest praise for Dr Jeffers and everyone at Pet's Best Friend. We are happy to say we've made some new friends to take great care of our pets. So appropriately named Pet's Best Friend!!! Read Less

We have been coming here for many years recently had the very painful experience of putting our dog down he was 19 years old and just stopped eating drinking and walking. They have treated my pets, dogs and cats, with not only their veterinary knowledge and services, but with love and affection. They know how to calm me down when I'm overwhelmed with the condition of my pets and have pulled them through illnesses that they could have died from. I trust them 1,000% with the care of my pets. Dr. Jeffers has lost it! She has gone senile! She yelled at me like I wasn't a customer.  I felt like one of her dogs, kids or employees. It was ridiculous. I'm still on disbelief. She is not fit for duty, she is too old. That office has gone to shhht. The reception always smells like urine or ammonia. All that because I'm a smart owner who ask questions and does his own research. Be careful if you have to go to this office, do your research and ask them plenty of questions about your pets condition. All they want is your money.  I don't know how to process this,  I'll be looking for a lawyer/counseling. Read Less

You do have to wait a long time for an appt sometimes. As someone already mentioned they take emergencies first. Someone recommended Dr. Jeffers to me and she is a bit daffy at times, because everyone wants to see her when she is there. The place can be wicked busy. The Dr's there have taken care of 3 of my dogs throughout their lifetimes. I never had a problem with their treatments. They have never misdiagnosed any of my dogs. Echoing all the other posts about horrible waits for scheduled appointments, I want to add that I can no longer trust their diagnostic capabilities. We go in for routine shots and check up for our seemingly health dog and make the mistake to telling them that we'll be boarding our dog for the next weekend somewhere else. Now the dog is diagnosed with heart problems that require $300 xrays, $300 specialist, and God know's what other treatment! BTW, they say "you could board her here while we perform the treatments". Also, they wouldn't give shots preventing us from boarding elsewhere. Quite a business they're running there. Will never risk taking our pets there ever again!!!! Read Less

I've taken both my boxers and my tabby to this vet for years. The only complaint is that their reception area is terrible during busy times, like in the evenings. I went in simply to pick up meds, and had to wait 30 minutes in line. Their front desk needs to triage incoming people better. I may all my appointments during the day now. they have been wonderful for the few times i needed a vet urgently. just like going to a mechanic, i rarely get an explanation for excessive/expensive testing and that can be frustrating. I wish they would help explain more into why certain things are needed, even if they are appropriate. they have been spot on with all of my pets' medical needs, and I will continue to use their facility. Doctor Jeffers is one of the best vets I have ever dealt with, she shows compassion for all animals and can tell you within hours of literally anything that is wrong, plus very reasonable prices.Dr Jeffers even accepts reptiles so being able to get that kind of service locally is great considering another vet on street road gouges you big time for just a vitamin shot ( 105.00 minimum charge )Plus the practice has just about every type of machinery to insure that they know exactly what is going on with your pet. We've been taking our myriad of pets to this vet for 15 years. They've always been quite good, but we recently had an exceptional experience. My doxie puppy went in for her first round of shots. I was late for the appointment- no big deal, they said. Nice! An hour after she got home, her face swelled up like a manatee. I was so scared! I called them and they said to bring her back immediately. I did, and the doctor was very reassuring- it was an allergic reaction, not very serious, but they would keep her overnight for IV steroids and antihistamines and to monitor her condition. I was heartbroken- she sleeps in bed with us and is so attached, how could she ever spend the night in this strange place? In the morning I got a phone call around 9 am- Sadie is fine. We went to pick her up and she was happy as could be, looking great! The tech said that she personally had held my dog through the whole night to help her sleep (it helps to be freaking adorable). The whole ordeal plus take-home meds only cost $270- a steal for vet care. Best Part: The vet and the tech were just sweethearts and took great care of Sadie. Despite the volume of care they give, they really made us feel like our dog was as important to them as she is to us. Worst Part: The one receptionist can be a little off-putting. Read Less
