I don't have enough words, or space, to describe how wonderful Dr I is or how much he has done for my animals. I originally found Good Shepherd via referral from another vet as someone who would offer a discount on services for a cat I rescued. I was impressed that he would want to help people help animals, and made an appointment. My first visit was wonderful, I transferred all my fur babies, and have taken all my animals to him exclusively for 8 years. Dr I has treated my cats, dogs, and exotics. He has done equally well with all of them. The office is clean, safe, and comfortable. The staff have always been amazing- professional, caring, pleasant, organized. Dr I has treated all my pets through health issues, emergencies, multiple surgeries- I am confident in saying that many of my babies would not have lived if it weren't for the extraordinary care he has provided in so many ways. He has stayed overnight at the office with animals, handled late night emergencies, and made many other accommodations to help animals. He donates his time and services to help shelters and community. Dr I always takes the time to fully explain everything, never rushes appointments, is patient and kind, wonderful with the animals and people, and truly cares about the health of his patients not just the money. Just took our 8 year old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel to Good Shepherd for a dental cleaning yesterday and we were very pleased with the care she recieved. She has a bad heart murmer so we were apprehensive about putting her under anesthesia but they did tests beforehand and she was monitored the whole time. She left the office running around and acting like nothing had happened even with two teeth extractions. I used to work at a vet several years ago so I can be picky but I would highly recommend Good Shepherd, they are great and we will definitely be going back. Read Less

I have had such difficult times finding good vets for my dogs. I ended up having an emergency with my rottie over a year ago and did a search and found Good Shepherd Veterinarian Hospital. I am so glad I found them! They treated my rottie, who was in pain, with respect and didn't treat her like she was a viscous animal because of her breed. She got better thankfully and had a full recovery. I ended up getting another rottie puppy on 12/23/16 and later that night found out she had a bad case of round worms! I was so scared as I have little kids and didn't want them on the off chance to get contaminated. I had no idea they were open for a little while on Christmas eve. After calling several other vets, and feeling down that no one was going to charge me less than $300 to be seen, and I couldn't afford that right now, I realized they were probably opened too and they were! We got in and my puppy is already feeling so much better! I love that there prices are very affordable and they truely care about their patients and concerns! Dr. I is the best. He has cared for my Doberman mommy and her litters. He does a perfect job at tail docking. He makes sure all puppies are healthy and momma too. The staff is friendly and helpful. MUST READ I took my rabbit there and they were great! I was greeted and as soon as I walked in I sat down for not even 2 minutes and got into the room. They were so nice. I would of most definitely went back there but a vet should not make this mistake. Plus I don't know why you need to pay $50 for someone to look at a rabbits ears,mouth/teeth, eyes and structure. Really what is this world coming to..... I called to schedule a nail trim, THATS IT. After I was expecting $15 total. THEY SAID $65 I was pretty upset. They said on the phone when I scheduled an appointment it would be $15 and thats it. I first asked if they trimmed rabbits nails, they said yes. Then I asked if they needed a full on look by a vet she said it was not needed. So then they charged $50 on the vet appointment. I would of give full five stars if they wouldn't of made that mistake. They of course couldn't give that trip free but could at least somehow taken off a little money for that huge mistake. I'm young and all those vet bills come out of my pocket. My advice is when you ask about something, make sure it's clear. I would love to go back to get a nail trim, but I don't think I'd ever want to go back with what a mistake they made. Read Less

Absolutely incredible service from the moment I stepped in the front door! I was warmly greeted by 4 staff members including Dr. I and Dr. Miller. I was immediately escorted to the exam room, didn't even have to sit in the waiting room to fill out paperwork. Kosmo, my curious cat, enjoyed being able to explore while I filled in the forms rather than being stuck in his carrier. I was offered coffee/water twice!! I couldn't believe it!! Emily and Dr. Martin were amazing with Kosmo, being kind and sympathetic to his dislike of their gracious exam! I have been bringing my parrots here for a couple years for routine check-ups. Dr. I and his staff are always prompt, super courteous, & very thorough. Yesterday, I needed to bring one of my birds in short notice for a problem. Again, the care was super. I love that everything is done in front of me. Dr. I was so gentle with Jimmy. I have learned shop local, support local businesses any chance you get. We use to use banfield and our dog would get major anxiety when we went.. He was just a dog there. We switched to Dr. I last year and we could not be more happy. From check up to emergency visit he and the staff are fantastic...he treats him like family. You take your child to Childrens Hospital, you take your dog to Good Shepard. We had a scare a few weeks ago and I was an utter mess. He had to stay over night and I learned he wasn't alone, Dr. I stayed with him ALL NIGHT to monitor and gave me such peace of mind. It's clean, you get options instead of being told what you have to do. All around I can't say enough good things. Doctor I is heaven sent. We had had so much trouble with our rottie that is only 2 years 11months with two acl tears and then mrsa infection. We had the first surgery at PVSEC and had nothing but complications and issues with communication. Too many "surprises" and huge fees they should have been responsible for. We went to good Shepard on a referral from our neighbor and we still are in awe over Doctor I and his staff. They truly cared about getting our puppy healthy again and not how much they can charge us. To quote Doctor I " your dog comes first then you my hospital my staff than myself". Our Deezel had never been able to see a vet without a muzzle due to his protectiveness over me and just anxiety over past experience. I can say that my pup finally had a visit with no muzzle!! Back in June 2015 my cat started wretching non stop. I was recommended to go to Dr. I at Good Sheperd. My cat ended up having to have an X-ray, ultrasound and emergency surgery along with other meds. He received amazing treatment at Good Sheperd and the total bill would've been 2x what I paid had i gone to the emergency vet. The staff was very kind and did not mind that I called 27 times a day because I'm a nervous freak when it comes to my kids (human and feline). More recently, my cat started showing symptoms of cystitis or something along that nature on a Saturday afternoon. Of course all the vets were closed, so I started to panic because these infections, though easily treatable, can also be deadly in a short amount of time. I called Dr. I on Sunday morning. He apologized because he was not available until after 4pm because it was his daughter's birthday! I felt terrible for bothering him on his daughters birthday but relieved he would see my kitty that day. I took my mountain-horned dragon and bearded dragon to him and always walked out with great results! The prices are beyond reasonable and he always gives me peace of mind. Received a free visit voucher from community days, that was the first red flag, took my cat there for a urinary problem. Spent thousands of dollars on tests and medicines. I was fooled by his caring act. When it came to making an appointment for surgery for my cat to remove a stone, that's when it all went to crap. Communication from him and his staff was poor, he performed a surgery that caused a leak in my cats abdomen, potentially leaving her to die. He knew there was a leak and did not communicate that to me. I rarely complain about People or services, but when it comes to my pets life and other pets could be in harms way, something needs to be said. PVSEC saved her life. Dr. i is a WONDERFUL rabbit vet who really takes the time to exam and handle your animals. I've taken two of my rabbits to him and each time he has been a tremendous help in getting them back to health. He's very knowledgeable (which can be very difficult to find when it comes to rabbits) and has always taken great care in ensuring my rabbits were getting the most optimal care. He's truly wonderful and I would recommend him to any looking for an experienced rabbit vet. He also has emergency hours which are near impossible to find for rabbits in Pittsburgh. Positively the best service I have received from any sort of business in years. My family and I had the, absolute, pleasure of working with Dr I and staff over the last month or so. We have been on an emotional roller coaster ride due to taking in a beautiful and loving stray cat which we ended up having to put down due to an animal bite.
