Husband Falsely Accused of Swearing at Receptionist Over the PhoneUnreal. My husband just received a phone call from this practice stating that he swore at one of the office workers when making an appointment to spay our puppy. My husband does not treat others this way. He explained to the office manager who called him to address this that she must have the wrong person. She stated that she would have to "continue to investigate." Incredibly offensive. We saved her the time and trouble of "investigating" by taking our business elsewhere. Get over yourselves, Northern Pike Vet, and make sure you have the right person before you accuse them of something so egregious. Read Less

VADAR didn't show an ounce of aggression during his initial visit. 2 of their staff got on the floor and played with him a little. No staff member showed any fear or hesitation towards Vadar. When the wife called to schedule his follow up appt, she was blindsided by the vet. During the initial visit, the vet went on a rant about the Cane Corso breed. She told the story about a lady in California that was mauled to death by 2 Cane Corsos. She continued on with false information about the breed. I bit my tongue until she was done and calmly said that her information was wrong. The dogs that killed the lady were Presa Canarios. I also told her that he was our 1st Cane Corso and that I researched the breed very throughly because we had young kids. We have also had a Rottweiler, English Mastiff and a Boxer. My family has had large dogs all my life and that my father was a K9 officer for the county police. After all that she told us that they need to see him in May for a follow up. She asked that when we bring him, we should come in the lower entrance. They usually see big dogs in their downstairs office. They feel that it is safer for everyone. Then we received a letter saying that her (vet/owner) and her staff did feel comfortable treating the Cane Corso breed. She also said they have major reservations as to this breed being in a neighborhood setting. I normally don't post when I feel that I have been wronged. But when you have a professional giving false information, it is reprehensible! Read Less

Beware of this "Veterinary Hospital", I mean seriously watch your money.  I took my pet to Dr. Cory Sechrist.  I initally had a problem with his behavior as a puppy and this doctor put him on prozac.  I then took my dog to a private dog trainer and all of the issues had been worked out.  I have a perfectly calm and loving dog.  BUT, this Vet brands my dog as aggressive!  I was shocked. I took my dog to him because my dog wasn't eating, and instead of maybe drawing blood to see if there was a problem, he orders X-rays charges me $500 and then tells me nothing is wrong with my dog.  I then took him for his yearly checkup (which costs a ridicules $205) and he diagnoisted him with Lyme disease.  Maybe that is why he had no appetite when I took him earlier? It was MUCH MORE PROFITABLE for them to order $500 of unnecessary X-rays.  Then he prescribed medication for Lymes disease and told me that he would fill it at his facilities because it was so expensive at a Pharmacy.  He charged me $108 for a presciption that a Pharmacy would have charged $72.  I could have had it filled through the internet for $50.04 less! The guy has a personality of a goldfish and in my opinion he is a thief!! Read Less

I have no complaints in the least bit! Recently we had a worry about an older cat of ours with a large lump on his leg. We originally took him to Banfield in Monroeviile and for weeks they had no clue as to what it was. Never once suggested a biopsy or blood tests. Banfeild finally suggested xrays(which they didn't from the start for some reason) and after looking at it they still had no clue. To cut this story short: It was inevitably cancer. Within 2 weeks of Northern Pike Vet seeing him they had us in to amputate the leg. Everybody there is incredibly caring, friendly and helpful. I have a feeling that if we had taken the cat here to begin with he may not have had to lose his leg. Lesson learned. NPVH is, in my opinion, one of the absolute best. Read Less

I have two dogs and a cat that I take to Northern Pike. We've been clients since we got our first dog, so it's been a little over four years. I'm very happy with the service we get at Northern Pike. We've seen all the vets and they've all been wonderful with our pets. They've also been really good with my kids-- including them in pet exams (letting them listen to the animal's heartbeat) and taking the time to reinforce good care of the animals and responsible pet ownership. I appreciate that. Both dogs were neutered at Northern Pike, a male and a female. Both surgeries went well, no complications. All yearly appointments are thorough and they take the time to listen. Dr. Homison discovered a renal problem in my cat just by listening to me and ordering the proper bloodwork. He's now on a special diet that I order through them. I've never had any problems getting an appointment with them and once even used their housecall service, a van they bring to your house for the appointment. Their office hours are long and they'll let you pick up your pet after hours as well. The only issue I've had is the special food for my cat. The ordering process was never clearly explained and there's been some confusion over that, but I'm willing to work with that in order to keep the stellar care for my pets. Read Less

I've been going to this vet for years and they have always been very nice and helpful. Little did I know how great they really were. Our guinea pig Ham had to have a bladder stone removed. Dr. Martin, Dr Homison, and the whole staff watched over our piggy like he was their own, and in a way he is, he really loves those guys. Dr. Martin has really taken great care of our pig, and I strongly believe if we would have went somewhere else our other piggy Eggs would be all we have right now. Dr Martin and her staff have gone above and beyond anything I have ever seen to get Ham back on his feet. She is extremely helpful and explains things very well. As much as she loves our Hammy she told us upfront the risks, and we decided to go ahead with the surgery. Ham is still alive and kicking but to be honest after seeing how much TLC they gave him, even if he wouldn't have made it I would still be satisfied knowing that NP did everything they could and more for our piggy. This will be our vet of choice as long as they are there, and we plan on having pets the rest of our lives. Read Less

I've been going to NP Vet for years. I've always received wonderful service and my pets have been very well taken care of while there. They have been excellent at scheduling appointments for me, even at the last minute. Unfortunately, prices have gone up as of late and quite frankly I can no longer afford to continue receiving service at their office. A recent visit resulted in a $620 bill, a friend had her dog to her vet in the area, received almost identical care PLUS SOME and her bill was $237. This is a HUGE difference and one that I can't ignore since it's happened consistantly when I compare what I paid for a service vs. what friends are paying for the same services. It's sad when you must give up your trusted veterinary provider simply because they feel they need to charge fees, not just a bit over the going rate, but a LOT over what others in the area are charging. I don't know of a single other vet who charges $45 to insert an IV catheter, usually that is included in the price of the IV alone, there is no separate charge for it. Prices for x-rays are within reason, but every other charge I've ran in to is not in comparison. Sad to say, I'm changing vets soon so I can stop draining my savings account and maxing out my credit cards for what should be fairly routine procedures. Read Less

Yep, they're expensive. I don't think I've ever walked out of there with a bill lower than $80, and usually it's higher. I don't regret a cent of it, either. I have three cats instead of children, two of them with health problems, and they've received nothing but excellent care from the Northern Pike docs, particularly Dr. Bill. The vets are patient, thorough, and willing to take the time to answer whatever questions I have -- sometimes more thoroughly than I had wanted! They're also not afraid to refer business to someone else who's better suited to the problem at hand; when my rat was ailing, they sent me to the New Stanton clinic's pocket pet expert. The facilities are immaculate and up-to-date, and everyone at the office seems comfortable and caring around animals. Kind of sad that I have to point that out as a special virtue at a vet's office, but I've had some experiences ... So, yeah. I am a brand new owner of a newfoundland puppy who has developed cherry eye. I took my puppy to Northern Pike vet for an initial appointment. The vet was very friendly and spent her time seeing my pup. She mentioned giving him eye drops to keep away infection until a surgery could be performed but then stated it would probably not be worth it because of the immense difficulty we experienced just trying to put a drop in his eye during the appointment. I was given a quote of $550 to $650 for the surgery ($650 if I wanted to get all of the necessary aftercare meds). I was also told that I need to get the surgery done in the next couple of weeks. I called around and got quotes from two other vets which were significantly less, $216 and $275! I am disgusted with the fact that this vet clinic feels they should charge three times as much as the surgery costs elsewhere! Also, the day after my appointment, I contacted the office to obtain the eye drops for my pup because I felt I would be able to administer them to him. I was told that the receptionist would consult with the vet that saw him and get back to me. I never received a return phone call. Finally, I was told by every other vet and dog breeder I have talked to that the surgery is only an emergency if the eye is bothering the dog or there is an infection. My dog has neither and the vet knows that. I feel this vet clinic is unethical in it's charges and by rushing me into a surgery. I truly believe they wanted me to rush so that I would not have the time to have him seen elsewhere and get more realistic quotes for the surgery. I appreciate the convenient hours they provide but am not willing to pay extremely high prices for them. Even the cost of the office visit is much more than anywhere else. Read Less

Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital is, in my opinion, reasonably priced for the services they offer. All of the vets are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. They've always squeezed me in when I have a time constraint, and my pets get a very thorough exam each time they've been seen. They even have a mobile office that will come to your house if you want. I used this service in February and it was so much easier than dragging my then 15 month old puppy and 10 year old cat in to the office. My puppy was cryptorchid and they did a wonderful job with his neutering. I've had visits with all of the vets and wouldn't recommend one over another-- they are all simply fantastic. They take their time with you and your pet. I won't go anywhere else. I worked for two other vet clinics while I was in college, so I have a little experience and know what I like in a veterinarian. I have a tea cup yorkie/maltese mix. As soon as he came home I took him to Northern Pike Vet. Hosp. They all seemed very nice and knowledgable. Especailly Dr. Homison. I liked her a lot. However, I have had nothing but bad experiences with this vet hospital. The receptionist is not people friendly at all! The second time we went in for an appointment she was mad because I had given my dog a bath! I dont understand what that is about. I felt like telling her, "Why do you take a shower?" its not like I said I washed my dog everyday. I washed him 1 time after I had him for 2 months. And the reason was very good! Today she said I AM NOT HOUSE TRAINING MY DOG CORRECTLY. Then the vet tech explained to me that I am doing a good job it is just he has a submissive peeing problem. The receptionist is very rude and has no right to suggest things if she doesnt know what she is talking about. Today, I walked out of my appointment. No matter what time your appointment is, you will not get seen until at least an hour or more from the time of your appointment. If Dr. Homison would work at another vet hospital, I would go there, she is wonderful! The rest of the help is not!!! And the receptionist, as I said is not friendly at all. I suggest Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital find a new front desk person or they are going to continue to loose clients. She should not work with the public. Read Less

Read Less
