There is no question in my mind that Stoney Creek is a 5 Star Vet. If you like a Chicken Soup for the Soul type story, read on, if not, then just take my word for it that these people truly give every ounce of their being to care for all types of animals. So the wife rescued a Chihuahua Daschund, aka a "Chiweeny" a few years back. His name is Willy and basically he looked like he had gone through a meat grinder. Some jackass fed the poor little guy to a much bigger dog. To be truthful we did not actually save the dog's life, a Vet Tech, our Vet Tech, Brittany M, did. (She actually did this on two separate occasions; the second time is a story for another day.) Brittany worked at a different Animal Hospital at the time of the rescue. Someone had dropped off poor Willy, he was all ripped up and bloody, his legs were dislocated and his eye was hanging out of his head. The person who dropped off Willy agreed to pay the cost to save him so Brittany and the Veterinarian went to work on him. The hospital had stabilized the dog, and the attendant went out to tell the Pet Parent what would happen next, but the person was gone, and never came back. The hospital was in a bind. There was no one to pay for what was to come next. This dog would be broken for the rest of his life; euthanasia was the best option at this point. Britany would not have it; Britany scooped up Willy and paid the $900.00 to save the little guy's life. This is notable because she was still in college to be a Vet Tech at the time, and not an actual vet tech. Brittany lived up the street from us so upon hearing that there was a new dog on the block, we brought our dog Jack up to meet Willie, they hit it off and Brittany gave us Willy. Selflessly. A struggling College Student just gave away a $900.00 dog. We paid her the money she spent to save his life. She refused a few times, but she eventually took it. She later graduated college and realized that her philosophy on Veterinary care did not fully match her former employer's philosophy, so she left. Time went on, Brittany moved away, we lost touch and we fell out of love with our Animal Hospital. We did a lot of searching and researching for a better place, we tried several places and just were never pleased. Then we found Stoney brook Veterinary Hospital. We were sitting in the waiting room and all of a sudden Willy leaped up and darted around the corner. There was Brittany, we were at the same place and Willy who hates going to the doctor remembered Brittany and suddenly was very happy to be there. Any way, it has been a few years and we have never been disappointed with anything Stoney brook has done. At times our bills were high, but that was because we made the commitment to preserve a life. You cannot put a price on life. At one point Willy lost his use of his legs, Stoney brook could not fix this problem, so we took him to Penn for spinal surgery. U of P said that Willy is a miracle and that it should not be alive, let alone mobile. The doctors at Penn told us that Dr. Talent, at Stoney brook had given this little guy the ability to live years longer than he was expected to, but now, they said Willy was on borrowed time, we prepared for the worst. U of P said that it was pain management that allowed Willy to live like a real dog, pain management and healthy living. This is Dr. Talent's specialty; she would never allow an animal to exist in a world of hurt. At any rate Willy spent the night at Penn, the next day they were going to determine if he would be able to survive surgery or if it would just be too hard for any animal to recover. In the morning the surgeon went down to see Willy and wondered where he was. This dog that was unable to have full functioning of his legs was sitting up in his cage like nothing had happened. The surgeon was baffled. Somehow overnight Willy's spine had slipped back into place and his legs worked again, not completely, but enough. We took Willy home, went back on physical therapy with Dr. Tallent and Brittany and Willy is still kicking a year and a half later. For our family, Stoney brook is a solid 5 star business. I have quite a few other stories, but this one typically leaves no doubt in anyone's mind as to the quality of people working here and the skill with which they practice veterinary medicine. Read Less
