By now, we are 6-fig clients cumulatively & collectively at the vet emergency hospitals in this area (Metropolitan, Hope, & VRC), & well over 10-figs at MVA alone. So this is a review with quite a bit of experience behind it.We have had ups & downs at MVA. At any vet hosp, like at any human hosp, you won't get along with every physician's personality, & you won't get out of this place without spending hundreds, if not thousands, per visit. So set expectations accordingly, & be prepared beforehand. **If you do not have a Care Credit account, you should open one. They accept it here, & the card gives you 6mos no interest to pay off bills. We have taken dogs & cats here. We have done emergency as well as pre-scheduled specialist visits. Internal Med, Radiology, Neurology, etc. We have had a LOT of issues & reasons to visit, with 2 dogs & 4 cats over their life cycles, & we are now on the second generation of pets. A few years ago, we had a great experience with MVA for neurology. Dr. Northington appears to have retired, but he was great. He was very experienced, knew his stuff inside & out, & had a hopeful, positive bedside manner. He did all needed MRI/testing, but for brain surgery for our cat, he had to refer us to Dr. Glass at Red Bank Vet Hospital in NJ, one of the best surgeons in the country. Our cat was expected to die without surgery. Though the tumor was benign, it was not going to stop growing. The surgery was a breeze, & she was a new cat. She was expected to have the tumor grow back in 2 years, but that never happened, & 5 years later she is as strong as an 18yo cat can be. In his southern drawl Dr. Northington said, "Cats are sur-vahhhh-vors" & he was totally right! For radioiodine therapy (for thyroid issues), MVA has a good deal, but it is very popular, so scheduling gets backed up. We had ended up at the MVA emergency room due to issues with our cat's thyroid, so we had to urgently take her to RadioCat in DE rather than wait for MVA's better deal. I do recommend MVA for radioiodine if you can get kitty in quickly enough for the level of concern you have. MVA will repeat the procedure for FREE if it doesn't take the first time. This was an offer I could not find anywhere else. They really stand behind their therapy here. For cancer & chemo we took our late female dog to Hope instead of MVA, due to a referral by our family vet. So I cannot speak on oncology for MVA.We did ultrasounds, liver aspirates, liver biopsies, & various internal med appointments for our late male dog at MVA. This was a case where you can spend years of time, & tens of thousands, & never get any answer or cure. Trying desperately to get answers & results, we visited four holistic vets, our family vet, & MVA, in addition to hours & hours of research on our own. We had spent basically a mortgage payment each month for 18mos with a holistic vet in Chadds Ford (who I do not recommend), along with every test possible at MVA, but no one could heal him. For MVA's part, we always received services in a professional manner, & MVA's specialists always gave their most educated information, but the cause of our dog's liver issue was never determined, so we were not able to treat it before it took his life. This is very hard to swallow, but there are limits to modern medicine, and, as with humans, they cannot save everyone. My one concern & complaint about our late male dog's care with MVA is that when he had contracted pneumonia as a result of his failing health, & was struggling to breathe the last day of his life, we rushed him in for an emergency appointment, & they took him from us to the back, to examine him, & they left him struggling to breathe for at least half hour, while we sat in the waiting room separated from him, going crazy with worry, before they took us back to tell us it was time to let him go. We knew it was coming, & knew it was probably that day, but the way they handled it, allowing him to suffer so much extra time without letting us be with him, is a traumatic memory for me. Our family vet would NEVER do that to us. We have gone to our family vet for every other euthanization, & it has always been full of thoughtful care & sympathy. While I appreciate & respect MVA for all the good they do, they really fell very short of what our dog / we needed for his end of life, & I will always regret that experience. Care quality issues aside, the prices for euthanasia & cremation were a lot higher at MVA than our family vet, as well, so if you have time to make the decision, I have to recommend euthanasia with you family vet, for more personal & affordable care. All in all, MVA offers a lot and does it well. They are not perfect, but most staff put their all into their work here. One last note: It is not the best feeling to call a vet emergency hosp and see that the exchange for their phone # is 666. Try to ignore it when you are worried about your pet's health, and really don't need to see that when dialing. Read Less
