I wish I could rate this place zero stars. As soon as I entered, I was smacked in the face with the smell of uncleanliness, the pores of the walls and floors embedded with the stink of animal fur and secretions. This is like walking into a retirement home and it smelling like urine and unwashed feet, buttocks, and bellies. My docile cat had, what I thought, was an abscess under his chin. I had explained the concern about my cat, in detail, to the receptionist. Then I did it in the stinky examination room with the vet technician - for the second time, in detail. He weighed my cat and took his temperature. Then the doctor (Wilkerson) came in and proceeded to ask me questions that demonstrated he had not communicated (or, perhaps, simply listened?) AT ALL with the tech. For the THIRD time, IN DETAIL, I explained the problem with my cat. He looked at my cat and said it looked like some kind of skin condition. "Is that all?" I queried worryingly. "It's not an abscess?" The doctor roughly squeezed my cat's chin, who whimpered. The doctor said that maybe there was a pocket of pus (MAYBE?!?!?), and maybe they would explore with the cat knocked out. He walked out of the room and sent the unfriendly tech back in with papers for me to sign stating that I agreed to anesthesia for the cat. I asked the tech for what reason I they were using anesthesia - nothing had been explained to me! The tech looked at me blankly and said they were going to do surgery to probe my cat's chin. At this point, I followed my instinct, and told the tech that we were going to leave and go elsewhere. The tech said "Okay." I told the people at the receptionist's desk what a poor experience it was and that nothing had been explained to me, to which they responded the vet was the only one on duty that day. Please do not subject your animals to the unkindness of the employees and smelly facilities of the Mt Airy Animal Hospital. I took my cat to a much better place and the situation was remedied quickly and kindly. Read Less
