Pittsburgh Animal Hospital

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
General Info
Pittsburgh Animal Hospital in Pittsburgh offers compassionate and knowledgeable care for pets in the region. The team truly understands how much pets mean to their families, which is why they strive to offer the best care possible. They focus on promoting wellness and handling issues related to chronic and urgent medical problems. Pittsburgh Animal Hospital in Pittsburgh provides the stability that pets need while ensuring a low-pressure experience for owners through its clinical rhythm, which is consistent with their homes throughout Pennsylvania. Animals independently set the pace with which they begin to visit the equipment. Staff members track movement and settling patterns while also recording which sensory cues (touch, sound, or scent) elicit the most robust responses. Medical evaluations cover the entire body and include things like checking hydration levels, skin elasticity, joint movement, teeth health and coat condition as well as weight distribution. It also includes asking questions about sleep changes or feeding habits in recent times along with a general discussion on energy levels at home. Pittsburgh Animal Hospital offers vaccinations, bloodwork, mobility care, dental planning, preventive guidance, surgical support, and long-term well-being discussions. The services may be provided either step-by-step or in combination based on the pet’s sensory preferences. Some families choose multiple short appointments to stage care, while others prefer one longer session with home resources. Each plan is based on family execution capability analysis: caregiver emotional capacity, pet adaptability, transportation availability, and household scheduling habits. Appointments have designated areas for questions, notes, and stories that are particularly helpful to those new to adopting the device or who manage chronic health issues. Pittsburgh Animal Hospital helps pet families in Pittsburgh and surrounding Pennsylvania areas make it a natural part of their daily lives rather than a source of anxiety, thereby creating opportunities to bond and establish sustainable wellness practices. They focus on preventive care, early detection, and timely treatment. Clients value the transparency, educational support, and personalized advice they receive. The team stays involved in each case, whether it’s supporting senior pet care or managing complex diagnoses. As more pet owners become aware of their approach to pet health, the company’s reputation continues to grow.

I went with my friend to her cats vet appointment here. Her cat was declawed at this vet (which right off the bat should be a red flag because most vets don't even do declawing anymore due to how risky and painful it is for the animal) and there was some type of complication from the surgery. The surgery happened in August 2015 me this is now January 2016, and the paw looks horrible. It's rock hard, it has puss and blood coming out of it, it has scabs that are embedding into the paw and fur, and the cat doesn't use it to walk on. When we asked the vet questions he danced around them and said numerous times that he didn't know the answer. He didn't know if it was bone that was exposed or not. And then he said we should 1 or 2 MORE months to see if the scabs fall off and it heals on its own. After five months of waiting, why would we put this little cat through anymore pain just to wait and see longer if it heals? It's obviously not healing on its own. I could see beads of sweat forming on his forehead when we asked questions. He seemed very un-knowledgeable and wasn't compassionate with the cat at all. I would never bring a pet to this place, so beware. The only good thing about this place is that they paid for the bill at PVSEC when they had to take her there the day after surgery, and they're paying for medical expenses now related to this case. My dog loves it here. Unlike the other reviewer, who clearly hates other animals, I know that the bird and the cat are quite clean, and comforting. My pooch loves to watch the bird during our visits and plays little games with the cat. Every other place, he puts up a fight, but here, he hops right up on the table to pester Doctor Young. There are treats and leashes, and organized files with thorough notes (unlike many other places), and the staff even tells you what drugs are cheaper from a regular pharmacy if they know you're tight on funds. They even have a wall decorated with pics of their patients, and the late founder's rescue-cougar and llamas, which isn't something you see much anymore since the world now puts decoration schemes over personal touches.Read Less

I've been taking my Black Lab to this vet for over 6 years. He is fourteen years old and has hip problem's .First I was happy with the treatment he received at this hospital. The place is a little run down but the vet seemed to have a good heart and was very nice to me and my dog.The prices were fair but I figured that being the place is in need of remodeling and a good paint job it would be hard for them to charge high prices like the more modern clinic's .A year ago my Lab has developed hip problems and has trouble walking. He is also  in pain from arthritis and has the normal stuff old dogs get..I had him there a few times and the vet put him on different medication to try to get this problem with his hips under control.I wanted to make another appointment because the pills she gave my dog weren't helping him and causing bleeding in his stomach.I was scared and wanted her to see him ASAP The vet there knew my dogs history so I wanted her to see him. After calling there five times I was told as many times I would get a call back which I never got. I finally got a appointment on a Saturday.I had to work that morning. The appointment was at 10:15  .At 9:30  I called the vets office to tell them I was running a little late and if I was a few minutes late would it be alright. The girl that answered the phone said no way.If I am late  they will not see my dog.I told her I will be there if that is the case. I had to pick up my dog and get him into my truck which is very hard due to his stomach being inflamed from pills this vet gave him and hips hurting him.It was very important for the vet to see him .I had trouble getting him in the truck being the truck sits high.I got him in and rush there as fast as I could trying not to wreck my truck and launch my dog on the floor and make his problems worse. I was exactly one minute late and was told that they will not see my dog even though the last patient was still checking out and paying his bill.I even waited ten minutes while he was checking out so they weren't ready for my dog anyway.I said I was sorry for being a minute late and was told a appointment is a appointment and being I was late they will not be seeing my dog.I asked why were they treating me this way when I  didn't even stop their routine or even interrupt it.The three women that work there turned on me like a pack of wolves.I couldn't believe they could turn their backs on a sick dog and refuse treatment because of a minute.I was so upset that my dog had to suffer because of this staff has no compassion for a sick animal.I always said if you hate your job find something else that makes you happy.Don't take out you personal problems on a poor sick dog.I believe God helps those who need it because I found a very good vet that day and they saw my dog that day and are helping him now. This vet clinic has the compassion Pgh Animal Hospital is lacking. It is called The Big Easy Animal Hospital on Butler Street in Lawrenceville..These are good people. They are nothing like the staff at PGH Animal Hospital.I find it hard to believe the vet at PGH Animal Hospital is not aware that her staff treats people like this when I saw hate directed at me in the eyes of these women that work there.I never experienced anything like this from a business that should be compassionate because of their customers situations of having a sick loved one.I didn't want to write this review and was going to let it go but I don't want to see another dog or cat that needs help suffer the way my dog suffered those many days.
