Fear-free visit success!! Our sweet 5 year old kitty Pfeiffer just had his first happy vet check up ever! Annual check ups were always a terrible thing for us to go through. Pfeiffer has very high anxeity and is terrified of strangers. With the help of Rachel and Angie, we started working on ways to lessen his fear and hopefully make a vet visit something to look forward too. Today's visit with Dr Leidy was hands down the best visit we have ever had. With a little bit of medication, lots of special extras and tons of treats he was able to get a full physical exam for the first time. The amount of extra time and care they took with him is simply amazing! We are so glad we finally found an office who cares about our sweet boy as much as we do! Read Less

Fear-Free Visit success. We are clients of Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital for over 15 years. Our Jindo dog, Suki (3 years old), was rescued from a South Korean dog meat farm last year. She is extremely anxious and fearful of people and new situations, so we chose the “fear-free” exam team for her visits. Rachel and Angi combined Suki’s favorite treats, pheromone calming scent, gentle touch and sound, all on a soft blanket on the floor. Accompanied by our other dog, who is also a calming influence on Suki, they were able to not only administer vaccination but draw blood with no fussing or agitation. I honestly didn’t think we would be able to get Suki to relax enough to do this. We highly recommend this process for pets with anxiety, behavior and special needs issues. Read Less

I have had 5 dogs treated there for over 20 years 3 Irish Setters and 2 Beagles and the treatment and care for them has been exceptional,The doctors and staff are awesome, always professional and friendly, yes there are expensive but who isn't these days. Went in to get some pricing on shots for my puppy. The lady at the front bad mouthed a couple other vets, was unprofessional, and just not friendly at all. On top of that, they are just so expensive. If the women at the front desk were nice and cared about bringing in new customers, the expensive price wouldn't have been so terrible. Read Less

Love these vets!  They take great care of my dog every time we bring him in, we've been going there for years.  The front staff is very welcoming and the rest of the staff is caring and always answers all of my questions.  You should definitely bring your fur babies to them! Read Less

The vets at Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital are great at their job, the doctor I see for my 6 month old kitten truly seems to care for him. She always seems very willing to give advice and answer any questions. However I feel their techs/assistants are awful. Had to take my kitten in for some blood tests to make sure he'd be ok for a neuter, the tech took him into the back and after about 10 minutes you could hear him hissing and screeching all throughout the clinic. About 20 minutes later they bring him out and tell me they couldn't get all of the blood they needed for the tests because "he was squirming around too much". Instead of taking the blood from his neck/shoulder area they took it from his back legs down by his feet. The tech brought him out to me shaking and he had a compression bandage around one leg to stop the bleeding. He has some bruising where the needles went in, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't obviously causing him pain. He's very energetic and likes to run around and leap onto furniture and now the pain is making that difficult for him. On top of all of this they had told me at the front desk that the neuter was scheduled for the 30th and it was printed on my paperwork as such. Come to find out today that it is actually on the 17, and they don't know if they'll be able to reschedule it. Safe to say I will be going somewhere else for my kitty's neuter!! Read Less

This is a great vet. Just brought my new puppy here and my two year old still goes here as well. Decided to give them 4/5 because the staff in the front needs to be more diligent in assisting customer. Twice I've been there juggling a fur kid whilst having to carry paperwork, medicine, lab samples and it's like they just stare at you struggling in the door. I had to make a difficult decision and have my dog put to sleep, I have never done this before and was very sad, confused, and nervous. The people at this vet were so helpful and very compassionate towards me and my Charlie during this difficult time. Very accommodating in terms of availability, especially when one of my pets has an illness or injury. Very friendly staff, techs, and thorough and knowledgeable vets that really care about prevention and treatment as well as getting to the bottom of things like root causes, etc. I trust them completely with my animals. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS VETS!! They removed a mast cell tumor from my dogs leg and while Dr. Jones did an outstanding job in surgery the subsequent care was horrible. When it was time for her sutures to be removed they left 2 in her and she developed an infection. Over $1500 dollars later, they only thing they would do for her is recommend more and more rounds of antibiotics to fix a problem they caused and then charge me for it!! When we asked for our medical records, during her last visit they got snippy with my husband and did a piss poor job of wrapping my dogs leg with bandages. While I feel that many of the vets are very capable, they are outrageously priced and will continually try to get more money out of you while not doing much for your pet. Go somewhere else!! Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital partnered with the Animal Rescue League to offer discounts for the first year of adoption, so that enticed us to give them a shot and the close proximity to our house. However, as we near the end of our discount period we're indifferent as to whether we'll continue with this veterinary. At times some tests/procedures that were suggested during our check-ups seemed unnecessary and overpriced. Though, the staff is always nice and friendly to us, plus they handle our cats very well. I am so very glad I found this wonderful place Dr Jones back in March when my special little hammie Max got an infection. He took really good care of him then and when the issue that caused the issue returned over the summer again earlier this month. He operated on my little guy today 10/27/16 to resolve the problem permanently. Dr Jones is a terrific person with a fantastic personality. The vet tech's and the desk staff are all really super. I will not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone who a pet. I will continue to come here with my max and any other pet that I may have on the future. They wonderfull!!!!! Read Less

They wanted to charge $1000 to pull a tooth because it was chipped. I got a second opinion from greentree animal clinic and they saved me $950. I also ended up spending $650 at phph for inconclusive tests and said it might be a uti. Horrible Read Less

I would never take my animals here again after the response/service we received. Brought our cat in after he was not eating...shelled out their expensive prices for lab work and the visit... Vet seemed like he couldn't care less. No suggestions on how to feed him or what could be wrong. Basically gave us two cans of special food and that was that. Went on my own to find more answers and suggestions. Said they would call lab results on the Monday following. My husband called twice, never heard back. Even though we confirmed the results were indeed back. Finally hear back on Tuesday afternoon. Again no real answers. Suggested trying meds and then gave prices for testing that were out of this world. We were out of town, had friends caring for our cat, and were trying to pay for the meds via phone so that someone could pick them up. Front desk had no clue. Got transferred over and over and played phone games for something so simple. Was told we would get a call when the meds were ready. Again waited over a day, no call... More phone tag... Got copies of his records and will never go back again. Do these people even care? Our cat is our family. I will NEVER EVER go here again. Incompetent. Rude. Overpriced.Read Less

Took my dog here because he had a loose tooth (which was not bothering him) and to get a quote on a dental cleaning. Our typical clinic does not do dental services. Our dog had his annual check up at the end of April at his normal clinic where he was determined to be in good health but would need a dental cleaning within the next year. I made an appointment at Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital because they said they provide dental services. At the appointment we waited about 20 minutes between when the tech checked us in and seeing the vet, which my dog spent shaking and pacing in the exam room. When the vet came in she had him go up to the table and fully examined his body, so by the time she looked at his mouth he was being rather uncooperative. The vet said that yes he needs a cleaning and she could not get a good look at the loose tooth. She said she'd get us a quote and the tech would review it with us. Fast forward 15 minutes and the tech brings in a $1000 quote, including notation that 3 teeth need pulled (How does she know 3 need pulled when she barely looked in his mouth?). I told her I need to discuss this with mu husband and we proceed to the checkout where they charge me $53 for the appointment TO TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD THEM THE ISSUE WAS OVER THE PHONE PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT. Dr. Mihalik took care of my beloved Atlas up to his final days (5/13/2015), just 2 months short of his 14th birthday. She was always warm, friendly, genuinely kind (to both of us) and thorough and made excellent recommendations for his care. Thank you Dr. Daniel Jones and staff for your utmost compassion and professionalism, as we had to say goodbye to our cat, Mr. Franco Majestic. The vet we went to was in Monroeville, which was too far for us to drive, especially when making such a difficult choice. We had never been to the Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital, even though we are from the South Hills. They treated us as though they knew us, from the first phone call to the visit, and then after Franco departed this world. We were treated like friends, and Franco was treated as though he had been seen by Dr. Jones forever. They have a special room in which you can take your time to say goodbye. The vet tech that took us into the room evaluated Franco and his cancer condition, explained everything in compassionate detail, gave us options on how we wanted to say goodbye, and allowed us to pay in the room so that we did not have to go back to the waiting area in our saddened condition. There was helpful literature offered on how other pets grieve and how to assist them in the process. Dr. Jones then came in and took his time with us, reassured us that the decision we were making was wise, and then went over the process of Franco's passing. He was very nice with us and with Franco as he departed. They provided a blanket for us to take Franco to his final resting place in, and permitted us to leave an alternate exit so that we would leave with whatever dignity we had left. I have had to say goodbye like this several times to creatures I have so dearly loved, and I was by far the most comforted here. I will be sure to recommend your establishment to everyone that I know. You are a compliment to your profession, for sure. Thanks so much, Dennis and Melissa Jones. All the doctors, the vet techs and the front desk girls are so nice here and they genuinely love animals. I have taken my cats here through the years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I recently had to put 2 of my cats to sleep here and the staff was there for me the whole way. So patient and sympathetic. They always answer all questions throughly and are up front with costs. My Boston terrier unfortunately developed an aural hematoma a couple weeks ago and needed surgery here. I chose this place because of their hours.. I didn't want to have to pay for an ER visit somewhere else. I'm giving two stars because they fit me in that day, and so far, the surgical removal of the hematoma has been a success. The vet herself, Dr. Snyder, was nice and seemed knowledgable.. Another reason for the two stars. I am huge on customer service, and from the moment I walked in there it was a cold environment (figuratively). The employees didn't show any affection for my dog, none whatsoever. The staff members said hi to me and told me that somebody would be with me momentarily. The few times I visited the place, the front office staff hardly even acknowledged my dog, which I honestly think is crazy after spending over $700 (I believe?) for them to fix her poor ear. I noticed they did the same with the other dogs/cats that were there as well, so I know it wasn't personal lol. I understand they have a job to do.. But to me that made me feel like I was dropping off my child at a day care with people that weren't typically fond of children. Dr. Snyder said the hematoma was most likely caused by Addie's ear infection, so they prescribed her some ear drops and ear cleaner. Today they took her back, and when they brought her out to me in the waiting room, the lady had two Q-tips that seemed to be covered in blood/yeast/etc. The lady went on to tell me that the ears still look infected and asked if I wanted them to recheck both ears. I said no because I'm taking my girl elsewhere. Looking back I wish I had chosen to spend more money (because it was affordable in comparison to other places) and receive better customer service elsewhere. My other dog had surgery on her leg at Pittsburgh Veterinary Speciality and Emergency Center (PVSEC) and they showered her with love the moment we stepped foot in their door, they even personalized her different casts for the holiday season. I will never take another animal to these people, in the last year my wife and i have taken 5 cats to them and they put 4 of them to sleep, after talking with the animal rescue league and the humane society 3 of the 4 that were put to sleep had a very curable problem, it seems that they would rather milk people for all they can rather than actually give animals the care they need Please if your animal has anything wrong with it take it to someone else, the chances of survival with PHPH seems to rely solely on your willingness to pay rather than what is really wrong with your pet, we lost 3 of the 4 in the span of a week, thankfully we dont have kids yet because explaining this lose to a child would have been even more heartbreaking than it already wasRead Less

More concerend about your money than your petif your pet has any type of problem, they will tell you it needs bloodwork which runs between 300 to 400 then on 3 sperate occasions they told us they still werent sure what our pets had wrong with them, they then give you an option of spending even more money or putting you pet down ...this happened to my wifer and with 3 seperate animals PLEASE think twice before using this place, your pet will thank you Read Less

Needed quick attention and got it!  We rescued two dogs who needed checked and had a few health concerns.  We had recently moved to the area so needed a new vet.  We were able to get our dogs in for their initial visit the very same day, the exams were thorough and we got lots questions answered.  We were able to schedule surgery appointments for neutering and micro chips very soon and this pet hospital has state of the art equipment so is able to provide laser treatments which is less invasive and speeds healing.  We are very pleased that we found Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital. I will never take my pets to them again. My sister is a vet and I told her what they tried to tell me my cat needed to have done and she just laughed at me and told me to stop going there. I wish my sister lived closer but she is about 8 hours away. I told her that they wanted me to give my cat this special cat food that was very expensive and actually made my cat sick. As you see from my username I'm a attorney and like I said earlier my sister is a vet and I had her look at both my cat and dogs records and she said the meds they were giving my dog were making him need more visits so they could keep charging me. I'm putting together all the records and getting ready to open a case against this place. I will say that I started going to Banfield pet hospital inside of Petsmart. My sister worked for them before she opened up her own place and told me they are honest and the prices are much better. If you love your pets PLEASE don't take them here... Read Less

My husband and I took our hamster in to get his leg fixed. We ended up having to put him down due to an infection, but our experience was great under the circumstances. The staff and Dr. Jones were very kind and understanding of the situation. They showed the utmost professionalism and care for our hamster, and to us. I would highly recommend this vet hospital! I have had many experiences with this pet hospital but one will stick in my mind forever.  I had to have our cat put down there and what they did was inexcusable.  They put a port in so we could be with her as she went to sleep but when they put the port in they hit a nerve.  The cat was in extreme pain right away so we told them to give her the injection to put her out of her pain.  They told us they would not do that until we paid for the service in full.  I said I have the money just put her down so she isn't in pain anymore.  They refused and made me go through the entire credit card process before they would inject her.  Then they led us out the back door with our deceased cat.  Sorry, I hate to give bad reviews but give me a break.  To be fair, this was about 10 years ago and it could be different now.  But the next cat we had that had to be put down was done at Dravosburg Pet Hospital and the vet cried along with us. I have taken my Boxer here since I got her as a puppy;She's now a Senior Citizen!Very thorough and they definitely listen to your concerns and help you understand the diagnosis as well as the treatments that they are giving to you before you leave.On several occasions, when I have left with meds for my dog, I receive a follow up phone call a few days later just to see how my dog is doing on the meds and if there are any questions.There are a few Dr.s in this practice and I wish that we could see the same Dr each time, but there's no guarantee in that.4 Stars due to the above mentioned lack of consistency in Dr's and also because of all of the vets around, they are quite pricey.
