I got a puppy 2 years ago. My sister told me how great this place was. So I decided to make a appointment. My first impressions of the place was like. It a bit dirty. But they were busy. Lady up front was very nice. Took my dog to the room. Vet doctor came in. He really didn't seem like he was in a good mood. Now I not one to judge people right away. I go well maybe it was a rough day for him. So I let it go. I told him this was my first dog for my son. I asked him questions. He really made me feel like I was stupid. Just because I was asking about the shots he was giving her. But I let it go. Thinking he just having bad day. The forth time I brought my dog. She ended up jumping into my arm off the table. Guessing my dog know better than me about the doctor. Let me tell you. She was not a small dog. She ended up putting this deep cut on my arm. I was bleeding. All I could think. Was this doctor told me not to hold her on the table. But than he doesn't stop her from trying to jump off. She could of really hurt herself. Or hurt me. But he didn't even move his arm an inch to do anything. He didn't ask me if I was ok. Nothing!!! But once again I said nothing. Thinking maybe he was having a bad day. So I go to try to get flea and heartworm meds from them. They tell me i have to bring her in again. I like she was just here. Like seriously like two months ago. Oh and you want to get her fixed. I told them as much as I like them to fix her. They were to pricey. That I found a place that would. Fix, chip, and shots for way under what they said. The doctors sister got really mean with me. Saying would you pay less for you kids. I thinking to myself. Wow!! Saying you shouldn't have a dog than. Trashing a place. She didn't even know were I was taking her. I don't know if she saw my look of discuss or what. But than she was like just do some research first. I walked out going ok Im done with this place. So I took her somewhere father away. But just two month ago I was like she going to need shots and her yearly check up. So I was like hey lets try to see if we can get her in. Because it really is closer. And maybe they changed their ways. While that was a waste of time. I called. It was like someone picked up phone a slammed it down. I was like ok. Maybe someone dropped the phone. So I tried again. Once again same thing. So I was like ok that was rude. But maybe they are busy. So I waited a bit. Tried again. Same thing. I was like really. Ok maybe they didn't change. I mean you couldn't even let the machine get it so I could leave a message. Or pick up and say sorry we are busy can you call back latter. I rather drive a half hour away that let these people touch my dog. Or as in her words my kids. Oh I am glad I didn't get a job there. When I was in denial of how bad they are. Making excuses for not only their bad manners and rudeness. I pretty glad I went with nursing job. You need to learn how to treat not only furry babies. But also their owners.. They are trusting you with a part of their family. It your job to not only care for them. But to teach their owners to take care of them. That mean putting on a nice smile and talk to them nicely. Not treating them like they are stupid. Or not worth your time. Its not like you were not getting paid at the time. Not having good communication skills or customer services skills will damage your business. Well you lost mine now. Read Less

Dr. Shreeves thinks it's ok to provide expensive medical treatment for minor conditions without obtaining consent. He treated my dog for something completely irrelevant to what I made the appointment for. What's more, the issue he decided to randomly treat my dog for was a known issue in his medical history that the office was aware of.  Dr. Shreeves is condescending. He made me very uncomfortable when he tried to demand payment for treatment I did not consent to. Poor medical practice all around. We went here because there was a coupon in Clipper Magazine and it was close to our apartment. My indoor cat got out for 3 nights in June 2016 and I wanted to get him checked out to make sure he was ok. There are dogs running rampant throughout the waiting room and one peed in the corner... awesome. Not all pets are comfortable about having other animals around them, so this was a big turnoff to me. The waiting room had gross couches to sit on that felt like its probably where the dogs nap. When we were called back into the exam room you instantly get the putrid smell of cat piss. The doctor weighed my cat, looked at his teeth and ears, and said "Yep he's fine." Ok, but I was previously told that we should consider a Feline Leukemia Vaccine if our cat was an outdoor cat. He never suggested it or brought it up in conversation. I should've learned from this experience but whatever... the doctor and staff were nice and they already had my information on file. Fast forward to November 2016- I later I bring my other cat in for potential urinary tract blockages. This one didn't do so well with all the other animals running around, he was scared out of his mind and shedding/ shaking. When they brought him into the back room to "extract urine" to look for crystal blockages, I could hear the dogs barking back there and the staff telling them to quiet down. I was pissed- this was already proving to be a traumatic experience for him, but let's add more stress by having our dogs bark at him while he's having this procedure done away from his owners. Give him some antibiotics and out we go.Fast forward to today- I try ordering flea medication online. They won't approve the Rx because "We sell this medication here, and if you want to order online you'll be charged a $10 documentation fee." Documentation fee??? Is that a fancy way of saying "We're penalizing you by not purchasing products from us"? I told them that's ridiculous and I'll go elsewhere from now on (to a vet who's more concerned about my animals well being instead of making a buck).Strike 3, here's your bad review for the world to see. I unfortunately had to bring my cat in for an emergency procedure at 8pm on a Monday, hours before we were expecting a large amount of snow. I had called a few other places just out of a panic and they all turned me away. During a very troubling and frustrating situation, Dr. Shreves and Colleen were able to assure me that they would do what they could for my pet. Dr. Shreves began working on my pet immediately and provided me with updates throughout the evening. He drove in through the snow the following morning to continue his work, and provide me with another set of updates. My entire experience was amazing. Hopefully my animals only need their regular check-ups from here on out, but this will 100% be the place that I bring them to from here on out.  Read all of the reviews, but take notice that the negative reviews were left by people who most likely were beside themselves with panic and grief. Veterinary care is never the cheapest expenditure and it's next to impossible to anticipate when you have to deal with something unexpected, but I can assure you that this staff is dedicated and wants to do everything possible to help you and your animal(s). Today we had our four month old puppy, Coda, in need of emergency services. Our other dog had bit him and punctured him in his eye. There was blood everywhere. Panicked I called every vet in the area for emergency services. I was trying to avoid a long drive to Norristown. I called Pottsgrove Animal Hospital made my report and Dr.Shreves called me shortly after. I have the pleasure of working with physicians in my career. Dr.Shreves has proven himself to be by far the worst doctor I have ever encountered. First he calls and simply states who he is and silence then I explain to him the situation and he stays silent and he says "okay? What's the problem?". Here I am driving around looking at my puppy bleeding profusely and on the other end of the phone is a "doctor" who lacks any genuine concern over the well-being of my loved one. Finally he let's out a loud sigh with irritation in his voice and says "fine if you want me to see him I charge 150 for the visit and that's not including anything else he will need" I was in so much shock I lost my manners and shared my thoughts about his attitude. After I hung up he proceeded to call me at least 11 times to ask me why I was so rude to him. Not to call and ask how his prospective patient is but why I called him out on his attitude and bruised his ego. I had to ask him repetitively to stop calling my phone and what he was doing was harassment. Finally he left a message to speak his mind but if you are reading this Dr.Shreves you wasted your time because it was deleted instantly. You continuously called me while I was trying to seek urgent care for my dog. The dog you failed to show any kind of concern initially. In your line of work it is your responsibility be able to show compassion, empathy, and genuine concern over the clients you serve and by clients I mean the dog and the owners. For any of you considering this vet I suggest you look elsewhere. This could possibly the worst decision you have ever made for your pets wellbeing. Read Less

Terrible experience here when my 12 yr old cat suddenly had difficulty breathing on a Saturday night. Dr Shreves agreed to meet me but I was bothered by his attitude on the telephone. Because of the distress my cat was in (I thought he was dying) I took him in to the clinic. Dr Shreves took one film x-Ray - Pottsgrove Veterinary Hospital does not have the technology to do digital x-rays- and after looking at the x-Ray and listening to his heart he gave my cat an antibiotic injection and told me my cat was not dying. Monday (36 hours later) I picked up the x-Ray and took my cat to our regular vet. My cat was indeed dying, and suffering in severe respiratory distress. My veterinarian said no diagnosis could have been made from such a poor quality x-Ray. My cat suffered at this vet's hands and I felt the emergency visit served only to put my money in Dr Shreves pocket. It certainly did nothing to help my cat. I would never trust this clinic with another pet of mine. I feel if Dr Shreves didn't have the diagnostic tools to find out what was wrong with my cat, he should have referred me elsewhere.Read Less

For the health and safety of you animal, do not go here. My mom and I took out 7 year old Weimaraner for an emergency visit to Dr. Shreves because my dog began to act strange, she was no longer eating, she was having muscle tremors and she had fallen down the stairs. Which is very unlike our Gertie (my dog). When we showed up to the office we filled out the paperwork and were put into the back room. The Dr came in and from the moment he stepped in the room he made us aware we were an inconvenience to him and his office staff. He asked my mom was what going on and she explained to him our dog wasn't acting herself, she wasn't eating, had fallen down the flight of steps.. etc. He gives a quick answer followed by an attitude and says get her on the scale. He peeks in her eyes and into her one ear.. he couldn't make the trip around the table to check the other one. He says alright we will run blood work, not once did he feel her body or check her legs as to why they gave out on the steps. He takes the blood and I ask him why hes being so rude to us and before I got the words out of my mouth the large man was in my 5'2 face. Telling me that I am not a dr that he is and tells me im a know-it-all. Being a concerned owner/sister to my dog of course im going to have questions to ask.. that's wrong in his office apparently. So after a long and drawn out argument which lead to him saying hes going to CALL THE COPS on me? for what reason? Trying to get some help with my sick dog. A day goes by and we call to find out the results of the blood work.... they threw it away! They threw my dogs blood test that we PAID for away. We have now taken our dog to Ironstone Animal Hospital.. the dr at this practice took one look at my dog and said lets get an xray.... My 7 year old weimaraner has Lung Cancer.. My dog is dying. This man at Pottsgrove would have let my dog suffer to her death.. unable to get her breath, falling down steps, trembling... For the sake of your animals life I beg that you DO NOT go to Pottsgrove Animal Hospital. The Dr from Ironstone was appalled that Dr. Shreves could not see the pain and suffering our poor Gertie was in. Gertie was given a month to live.. Dr. Shreves should have no right to be a practicing veterinarian.Read Less

I have never been more disgusted with a vets office experience as I am with the one I had at Pottsgrove Animal Hospital. I took my dog there, who got VERY SICK, VERY QUICKLY. He was literally lifeless in my arms, and it appeared he may have had Parvo. When I took him there, and told the vet he was so sick and couldn't control himself, and the vet SCOFFED AT ME. With tears in my eyes as I told them what I wanted to do, the response I got was NOT, "i'm so sorry to hear that". Instead, the Dr. looked at me and said "So you are just going to KILL him??" I didn't realize that it was a vets job to judge their clients for the decisions that they make about THEIR animals. What was already a tough decision, not that I had much of one, to make, now became something I would be verbally abused about. In NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM should anyone have to go through the experience I went through. NEVER. I will never visit this vets office again, and I hope that no one else ever has to have the experience I did. I would also like to clarify, that I would have given them NO STARS, but I couldn't publish the review without at least clicking one. Read Less

Read Less
