I would recommend this vet to others. Read Less

Terrible experience!  I took my dog here for a vaccination. They called me a few days later to say the gave him the wrong vaccine and told me to bring him in for the correct one. I did and they assured me that there was no danger in the Lyme vaccine they gave him in error.  A few weeks later I brought him back in since he was not eating, lethargic and not wanting to go on walks. They insisted it had nothing to do with the vaccine. My dog was later diagnosed with an immune disorder and there is plenty of documentation that  Lyme vaccines can cause this. When I contacted them they said it was inconclusive and to take it up with their insurance carrier. We had to put our dog down due to this illness that could have been avoided if they took action when he was first sick after they gave him the WRONG VACCINE!  Stay away from Limerick. Read Less

I haven't read the other reviews, but I see no way how the Limerick vet could possibly have an average 3 star review.  Our Sharpei, Petunia was experiencing GI tract issues and LVH was the only local vet able to take her in at 7:30PM on a Friday without charging an emergency fee. They got her in, diagnosed her with some x ray images, and provided a quote that made my wife and I shutter considering we just finished paying off our last pet emergency surgery that same day! Long story short... they completed the necessary surgery on Petunia, fixed the issue at hand, and charged us only 1/2 of the originally quoted price.  Thank God! Petunia was happy after the surgery and all the vets, nurses and techs treated her with great care.  On her return visit they got her in quickly, removed the staples, and sent us on our way.  From start to finish it was a great experience and we are now committed to a new local veterinarian.  Thanks LVH! I have been taking my babies to Limerick vets for at least 30 years. I'm sure all the vets are awesome   but my particular favorites are Dr. Nichol, Dr. Hanning, and Dr. Pfluger. The whole staff is very nice and professional. I recently had to put my 15 year old Maltese to sleep and I had to see a Dr. That had never seen my girl before. When she came in she said Tess must have been one special girl because although she didn't know her, everyone else that worked there did and they were all stopping by to see her. The front desk ladies were coming back to the room to give me hugs. The visits are not cheap but it is a true hospital and in an emergency situation they can run most tests from there. You get what you pay for and at Limerick you are paying for the best. Read Less

The Happy Tails boarding service lost our dog and we never found him. We took our chihuahua there for boarding and we received a call the next day that they took him out for a walk and he slipped off the leash. They told us he ran away from the person walking him and they were unable to find him. We searched for him for several weeks (actually months now) of a pet rescue service but, we never found him. This was back in March and we had some really cold days so we are not sure if he died from the cold or if someone picked him up. Consider this please before you take your pet there. Read Less

Our two German Shepherds Yuma and Gunny regularly visit Limerick Vet Hospital which is great. When we recently went away on an international trip to Russia for 3 weeks, Happy Tails Lodging was our only choice to take care of our beloved family members, especially due to the reason that both our dogs are rescues with severe separation anxiety, and one has a terminal heart issue and is on 5 different heart medications twice a day. The employees are always friendly and they love animals. Our 2 Shepherds were in good hands for 3 weeks. We came to pick them up and had a wonderful family reunion, but by Murphy's law our vehicle broke down right there on the parking lot of the facility. You can only imagine the anxiety and frustration that the pet parents and the two dogs experienced, while the tow truck was next to our vehicle. I went back inside to the reception desk and asked the girls if they could give a ride to me and my 2 Shepherds while my husband stayed behind with our vehicle... Not only we got a ride, the facility manager Shawn herself was very kind to give us a ride and refused to take any payment for it, not even the cost of the gas or the tip. We are so grateful for really good people showing up when not so good things happen in life. Thank you Shawn for your kindness and helping us out at a very desperate moment, and thank you Limerick Vet Hospital and Happy Tails Lodging staff for taking outstanding care of our two pups. You guys are the best, and are always our number one choice! I highly recommend this facility, people working there really love animals and take great care of them, the facility is always clean, and animals staying there are happy! Read Less

I have to admit, there are are some major pros and cons to this vet. Starting with the Pros, (1) Happy Tails Day Care is Amazing the people working the Day Care are knowledgeable and they take good care of your pet whether they are there for the day or boarding with them. (2) If you have a true "after hours" emergency, the emergency triage service they have in place is VERY good. If the vet tech/vet feels that the pet is in a state of distress they will open the center up at 12:15am in the morning to treat the pet (of course this does come at a price however, it also comes with peace of mind). The Cons, (1) this vet will nickel and dime you for pretty much every service provided or not necessarily services you want provided but they require in order to maintain your pet's admission to the day care/boarding facilities. (2) the front desk staff needs help, they often seem to answer the phone as if they are being bothered by you and seem to rush through the call at times. (3) we never seemed to see the same vet therefore, it seemed like every time we went in for a check up or shots we had to run through the dogs entire history on a continuous basis. Or if we were in for an emergency the vet we were seeing that day was unfamiliar with treatment done in the past leading to extra testing and longer time to diagnose an issue. We are still a client with Limerick vet (have been for 10+ years) however, depending on the service, we also utilize a competing vet due to the major difference in prices for the same service. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE!!! Years ago the place did a fine job with taking care of our cats. HOWEVER, this past week my 18 year old cat was over medicated for his arthritis. He was NOT sick. They gave him far too much of a dosage that put my poor cat into a seizure and quickly killed him. He had blood work done and everything was healthy. He was an older cat but his health was fine aside from his arthritis. My cat was in the hands of a careless doctor which many of my friends have had awful experiences as well. I wish nothing but the best care for your loved animals that you may too consider as family. Other complaints I have heard from my friends include: Putting a cast on the wrong broken leg for a kitten and over dosing a large dog on medication which left him puking for days. Enough said. I am disgusted. I went in with my fiancé to get our dogs ears looked at. The nurse came in and quickly swabbed our dogs ears. She then proceeded to bring it back to get looked at under the microscope. Coming from someone who doesn't go to the vet much more than for vaccines, I thought this was part of my visit price. When the doctor came out with medication for my dogs ear infection, I asked the price of the medication. She told me it would be about $70 dollars total. Perfect. I walk to the front desk to be told my bill was $220! How did my $70 medication and $50 or $60 visit equal out to $220? Well, no one told me the SWABBING and MICROSCOPE would equal close to $100-$120. When I confronted the front desk woman about it, she went to get the doctor. The doctor said really sweet "I heard you're having a problem?" I told her my issue. She brought me into the exam room and told me it was MY fault for not asking how much everything was. She told me she is not required to tell me prices during my visit! She attacked me (probably because my fiancé had left the vet with the dog in the car so I was by myself) She told me I should have asked. And that if I was so 'worried' about finances that I should have asked the nurse. Fuck that. Never going to them again. Who doesn't tell you what you're paying for BEFORE you pay for it? And then BLAME their clients. Sneaky, unprofessional ass holes. Good luck keeping business acting like that. Read Less

I wish I could give them zero stars but that isn't an option. When I moved to the area I heard some friends recommend this place, but after my horrible experience and after reading the reviews here I am glad I am not the only person who agrees that this place is horrible. It seems they care more about money then animals. There is no communication and the manager is completely unprofessional and rude. When I got a new 2 month old puppy from a rescue I was so happy! After bringing him home I noticed some symptoms that were not normal such as mucous in the nose and eyes, sneezing and lathargy. I decided to call limerick vet one night around 9:30 or so, the vet said that they would call the doctor on call and I could come in since I was very worried and his symptoms has persisted and gotten worse. After taking him there and explains to the doctor all his symptoms and my extreme concern for the 2 pound 2 month old baby chihuahua, he told me it was nothing to be too worried about and that it was a "upper respotory infection" and send me home with amoxicillin. I told him the puppy was vomitting and couldn't keep fluids or food down and still he sent him home after giving him fluids in his back to keep him hydrated. I explained my concern to him about parvo and asked if there was a test we could do. He still sent us away. No blood test, no stool sample. Just amoxicillin. He didn't take my concern very seriously and didn't seem to be worried. He told me that it didn't look like parvo and that it's very rare and he was almost certain that is wasn't. We went home and the vomitting got worse, the symptoms persisted and new symptoms emerged. I called the next day and they simply said they wanted to hospitalize him which would be over 500 dollars. After spending 260 dollars the night prior on something that clearly wasn't working, I didn't want to give them a dime more. The rescue ended up taking him back and their vet immediately did blood work, a stool sample and thought it was parvo just as I had suspected. He died a day later at the rescue. A week later after I had mourned the loss of my new baby boy I called limerick vet. I spoke to a receptionist who said that she would have the manager call me the next day since she wasn't in. I didn't hear anything for a week so I called back. They told me she had just gotten back from vacation when I was never told that to begin with and she would call me back. When she finally did call me back she had the audacity to tell me it was the rescues responsibility to pay for the vetting when I asked for a refund for misdiagnosing my puppy and even questioned if my story was true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She argued with me on the phone and refused to refund me. I will never go back to this place ever again. If my pup has been correctly diagnosed from the first sign he may have had a chance at survival and could have been treated properly instead of just throwing antibiotics at me and sending me home. It's pure negligence and my pure concern for parvo didn't seem to phase Doctor nikol. Don't go here unless you want to throw all your money away on idiots who don't know what they're doing. Never again. Read Less

We've been using Limerick vet & Happy Tails since we moved here about 3 years ago. While it's pricier than most places (why it's not a full on 5 star), we pay the extra for the service we get. From calls during surgery and post op to reassure us that all was well with our dog to a well check for our tortoise, we have always felt very cared for. And Happy Tails is great! Our pooch gets excited when get there and is in great shape when we bring her home - albeit exhausted. I've never had an issue with the staff - they'll call to clarify if instructions seem off to them. I'd love to know how many one star reviewers have ever actually used them and aren't reacting to one very sad mistake. Please read ALL the posts before making a judgment on these guys and determine where the reviews come from. Having used them with no issues for three years, I will bet there are many facets to the story that prompted so many negative reviews - not excusing the poor decision ultimately made. Please don't dismiss them out of hand without doing your research! PROS: Caring staff with a variety of specialties, Happy Tails, off hours calls to reassure a nervous furmommy, easy to get appointments, friendly people throughout CONS: price is really high, always seem to have something extra to sell ie vitamins, extra tests etc (but are cool with it if you don't buy it) Read Less

Limerick has been my 2 dogs' main vet and one of my dogs' boarding service for the last few years but we've recently transferred over to another vet. We've had some issues with Limerick Vet...a bit ago, one of my dogs got attacked by another neighborhood dog and sustained some injuries to her neck area. It was a Sunday evening so we called Limerick Vet's emergency line to see if there was anyone that would be willing to come in to see her but when the vet called us back, they told us that it wasn't necessary to bring her in and that we simply needed to clean the wound. Instead of taking that terrible advice, we took her to Metropolitan in Trooper where it was confirmed that her injury was a little more serious than simply cleaning the wound and my dog ended having to get stitches on her neck.We also have had some unsavory experiences with their boarding service in the last year. My dog was always happy to come to Happy Tails but the one time my dog's paw had swelled up and got infected. Happy Tails did not notice her paw nor did they notify us anything was wrong with her. We accepted it as a fluke but just about 2 months ago, we boarded her there again and we received a call on the first day that my dog had split her tail open and that it was bleeding. Limerick said they would keep an eye on it but they clearly did not. We called in to check in on her and none of the staff knew what was going on with her tail and when I asked for them to physically check on her, they went as far as to say that they didn't see any laceration on her tail at all. Of course when we went to pick her up at the end of her stay, we took one look at her tail and could definitely see where she wounded herself. I liked Limerick Vet and Happy Tails a lot when we first started going here, the staff are friendly and nice but after these various situations, I'm not a fan anymore. At the end of the day, actions speak louder than words and I can't really put my pup or my trust in them anymore. Read Less

READ READ READ.... JENNIFER D SMITH IS A MURDERING SCAMMER.. We are heartbroken, sickened and outraged to announce that our dog, Red A1056246, an average rated beautiful girl, whom we rescued from ACC on 11/9 was put to sleep by her foster, Jennifer Smith of Collegeville, PA on 11/16. In less than one week, she decided to end Red's life without SCR's knowledge or permission. On 11/16 we received a frantic call from a rescue friend via a vet employee in PA. Jeniffer brought Red into their practice and wanted her euthanized. The vet refused, so Jeniffer left with the Red. We immediately called and texted Her. We left messages and sent texts begging her not to do this and told her we would come and pick Red up. We then called Upper Providence Township Police. An officer was immediately dispatched, but it was too late. According to the officer Jeniffer had already taken Red to Limerick Veterinary Hospital in Royersford, PA and had her euthanized. We have texts from Jeniffer from Nov. 11, 12 & 13 with no mention of any issue or problem. She sent a cute pic of Red, and told us, "she is a gem." Three days later, she had her killed. Sadly we have grown accustomed to saving dogs from miserable owners. Now we must also worry that vets will euthanize healthy dogs at the whim of a foster, without permission of the dog's owner (SCR). All of Red's paperwork is in the name of Manhattan ACC and SCR, and her microchip was in our name. How could the vet have euthanized a dog if the "owner" could not provide proof of ownership? Jeniffer could not possibly have had any legitimate paperwork indicating that Red was her dog. After numerous conversations with Shawn, the Practice Manager at Limerick Vet, she insists that she can not provide any details to us because we can not prove she was our dog. We have sent her all of the shelter paperwork. When asked if the vet bothered to check the dog's microchip, she said that doesn't prove a thing. They will give us no information other than the fact that the dog is gone. We have retained an attorney to file a complaint with the veterinary licensing board in PA. We will pursue this in any way we can. We will fight for Red. We will try to stop this vet office from ever killing healthy dogs again, Especially healthy dogs that do not belong to the person who is requesting the euthanasia! We will try our best to see to it that Jeniffer Smith never kills another innocent dog. Below is a go fund me post by Jennifer Smith about Red. She was attempting to raise money for vet bills which is odd considering SCR pays for vet bills. Her post even says, "Even if we cannot be her forever home I am 1000% committed to seeing her find such." Cleary she was a foster, and had absolutely no right to have this girl euthanized. The post appears to be from 11/11, and on 11/16 Red was dead. Was this a scam? Please share far and wide. Let's honor Red's memory. She mattered, and she deserved better. We will update you as this progresses. With love & sorrow, Second Chance Rescue NYC Read Less

I was visiting my family over Christmas and brought my cat home with me.  Unbeknownst to me, she had a run-in with a Christmas tree branch and must have gotten poked in the eye which resulted in eye discharge.  I called their 24 hour on-call line and asked the helpful vet tech if I should bring her in right away.  The tech was very helpful and consulted the veterinarian that was on-site and told me not to worry and to bring her in the next day.  The animal hospital is clean and well organized!  Dr. Hanning saw my cat and knew right away what was the issue.  They have a pharmacy on-site and I was able to get eye ointment right away.  She also clipped my cats nails for free! Great service, very friendly font desk staff.  The prices were very reasonable as well. Read Less

In July, my cat needed a left femoral hip surgery, because he took an awkward jump. After taking think to an emergency vet elsewhere (At the time I was not aware that Limerick had an emergency service), I decided to find another vet in my area to do the surgery. I called around quite a bit and Limerick had the most reasonable price and they were able to take him immediately, the next day, whereas surrounding vets required at least a week wait. The surgery went smoothly, I was able to call Limerick Veterinary clinic whenever I wanted to check up on my cat, and they would go and actually check on him, and let me know how he was doing. This Thanksgiving, my cat took another awkward fall, another freak accident, so I immediately called the Limerick Vet's emergency hotline (on Thanksgiving day). I was extremely upset and still in shock, but the receptionist comforted me, I couldn't have asked for more. My cat ended up needing a femoral hip surgery on his other leg. I had the same Doctor, Dr. Nichol, who remembered my cat from the last surgery. My cat is going into surgery tomorrow (The Dr. was able to get get him into surgery the next day, which is amazing). I can rest easy tonight, because I know he is in great hands. I definitely recommend this vet, especially for emergencies and surgeries. I think the receptionists, doctors, and technicians are great. Their prices are very reasonable. They easily deserve 5/5 Read Less

I knew of LVH because a old acquaintance of mine brought her cat in years earlier for an emergency.  So when my cat was in distress, it was the first place I thought of.  They are a full service emergency hospital, 24/7/365.  I called at 9:00 on a Friday night, the on-call doctor, Dr. Nicol, called me back at 9:15.  Even though I wasn't a current client, he told me to come and he arrived before I did at 9:30. My cat had a urinary and bladder blocked as well as (later diagnosed) kidney issues.   In an extreme amount of pain, Dr. Nicol and the nurses immediately brought him back and worked on him.  When I called to check on him at 2:00 in the morning, the nurse knew my cat and already knew his status without having to look it up.  If the cat wouldn't have been brought in that night he might not have made it. The care here is spectacular.  You can tell these people really care, and are A+ medical professionals.  The previous reviews are right.  This hospital is pretty pricey, but if you love your animals as much as I do, and you can afford their costs, I recommend LVH.  Especially in an emergency. This review is really for Limerick Vet's lodging facility called Happy Tails. Happy Tails sits directly behind the main veterinary hospital and they take both daycare pets and lodging (overnight) pets. We've boarded our Jack Russell here several times over the past couple of years and I always feel comfortable leaving my pet here. They accept dogs, cats, birds, and other small animals. Your pet stays indoors in a climate controlled facility and someone is always on-site. Dogs are taken outside at least three times per day for walks and to go potty, although you have the option of increasing that for an additional cost. You are not allowed to bring your own bedding or toys, but they have plenty of soft bedding for your animal to lay in. They offer additional services for a price for things like grooming, playtime, one-on-one time, etc. They do charge extra if they have to administer any meds to your pet. You can either bring your own food and treats or they will supply the food (they use Science Diet). My pet has never returned home sick, but does usually lose his "voice" for a few days. We also always have him groomed, which they will do the day before you are scheduled to pick up your pet. You can request they be groomed the day you pickup, but then you usually can't pickup until after 3PM. I would say it's a bit pricey and you can likely find cheaper alternatives, but I like knowing that my pet will be safe, cared for, and vets are right there in the event of an emergency. This is an all around wonderful lodging facility with a friendly staff.

Thanks LVH!

Read Less
