I contacted Skippback Animal Hospital after moving to PA 6 weeks ago. Last week our German Shepherd cracked a canine tooth, and I could see the canal and pulp exposed. When I called them, they told me I could make an appointment for the following morning? And if the tooth needed to be extracted, they would keep him and do the surgery that afternoon. However, the following day when I brought our dog in, they felt the tooth would need to be extracted, but I would have to bring him back the following morning. The following day the tooth was extracted. However, when we picked our dog up, he was clearly not dealing with the anesthesia well. He was incoherent, staggering, and barely responsive. I was surprised they sent him home in that condition, and it was a very scary night. By the weekend, it was clear the wound had become infected, his breath stank, and his gums were green. I called Skippack to inform them, and get him in. Since they were closed for the weekend, I left a vm. However, once again their lack of care was clear. They asked me if I wanted to make an appointment for the following day. Needless to say, I changed vets immediately. I wouldn’t take our pet mouse to this place!! Read Less

I am writing this review with a very sad heart. This is a bit of a long story, but bare with me. A little over a month ago, my ex-husband and I took our dog to Skippack Animal Hospital because she had seemed to be getting progressively worse with arthritis, had begun pooping all over the house, and had lost quite a bit of weight over the last year. At that time, I was feeling like it may have been time to put her down since her quality of life was not good (she didn't want to go for walks anymore, in her eyes she looked unhappy, and she seemed very thin to me. All of that on top of being almost 15 years old so I would rather not have her suffer from day to day. The vet assured us that she appeared to still be in good health and that she was "thin, but nothing to be concerned about" (they said this regardless of the fact that you could see her ribs). They offered to do a blood test to see what her organ function was. After much deliberation, and looking closely at what they were offering (some of which was completely unnecessary and they would have charged us unnecessarily for), we chose to go forward with the blood test and put her on meds for arthritis. Over the next month, she became worse....her anxiety started going through the roof and she was demonstrating obsessive and panic type behavior. Her eating signficantly decreased, and she began drinking a ton. She was a danger to herself when noone was home because she would repeatedly bang her face against things that would cause her to cut herself. The house was a health concern for the children living there because she would poop and track it everywhere. We approached the vet about giving us a prescription for the anxiety so that we could at least handle that problem. They resisted and continued to give us the message that we needed to change the environment. I continued to tell them that I thought it was time to put her down. We made an appointment for a week ago (last Wednesday) and put her in their daycare program so she could be monitored and cared for during the day when everyone was working. During the first couple of days while she was under their care, they continued to resist giving us something for anxiety despite telling them that she was freaking out at night. They suggested keeping her in the bedroom with the light on and playing soft music. I pleaded with them and they continued to resist. Then, strangely, when i came to pick my dog up (maybe day 3?), the vet came out to the front when she heard me talking to the woman at the desk about my dog's anxiety. She said that the notes from someone there said that I was not interested in a prescription medication but was looking for an alternative solution!!! I adamantly said that NO, I was NOT looking for an alternative...I had asked for a prescription from the beginning. She went to the back and got me a bottle of Xanax without question. Over that weekend, we (my ex-husband, his fiance, and myself) prepared our children for our dog's death. When the day came to put her down, the vet called us and informed us that they had a team meeting and had determined that it was "unethical and wrong" to put her down at this time. Dr. Evans said "she is happy with life and life is happy with her". This baffled me. I was frustrated and confused. They offered to care for her by donation only until they felt it was ok to put her down. We hesitantly agreed. At least she would be safe and cared for, and who wants to do something "unethical and wrong"? We asked that they please call to inform us before they put her down. In the meantime, we were allowed to come and visit. I visited her on Friday and she looked terrible to me :( Her breathing was labored and she hobbled around and looked unhappy. Again, I voiced this to the front office and asked for a phone call (again) from Dr. Evans. It has been one week since the day when we were supposed to be with her to put her down and we got the call today that they put her down last night (and did not call us first!). I still have not received a call from Dr. Evans.Read Less

BEWARE. Will never go here again. I attempted to make this our local vet because they were so close to where we live. They lied to us about our cat's medical issue and placed him under anesthesia when it was never necessary. KEEP IN MIND THE CHARGES THEY "SUPPOSEDLY" ARE CHARGING YOU! Our final bill was a few hundred dollars more than what we were quoted. When asked about why the difference in price they said it was because the first numbers they showed up didn't show everything they planned on doing and it was only an approximate. I can understand a little bit of price difference but not a $400 difference. Steer clear of this place. Read Less

I wish I could give less than one star - as I feel like we were horribly mishandled. Today, we should've announced a new addition to our furbabies. Instead, Skippack Animal Hospital, toyed with our hearts, wasted our time, our money and our sanity. Despite asking about if there were others interested, checking out completely, having a place ready and kitten-proofed; we lose out to another family. They claim this family had interest first - we saw the kitten Saturday, October 4th, called and left a message the next day, Monday thought all about her as she went through surgery to be spayed, and waited without any sense of patience on Tuesday so we could see her. Tuesday, October 7th we fell completely head over heels, spent an hour with her and tore ourselves away figuring this was a done deal. Wednesday we got Persephone updated on her shots, so she'd be ready, and waited to hear back with good news. We pestered our current vet to call Skippack Animal Hospital, so we could get confirmation. Tyler- my wonderful and dedicated husband, called DAILY - usually multiple times, to see what else was needed, had they heard anything from our vet, was there any news - we love her and can't wait - sorry for pestering. We were told if everything went well, we'd get to bring her home Friday. I'm not sure what changed between Wednesday, October 8th and Friday the 10th, but we got the run around several times on Friday. To not pester, since the "only person who can do the adoptions" wasn't in until Monday, we left it at that - missing out on spending time with a little kitten we couldn't stop talking about - thinking about. Today Tyler called for an update, got more run around and introduced to the fact that there was suddenly another family interested. We had to wait to see if this family's cat had once again tested positive for Feline Luekemia. Our cat has never tested positive, and we were willing to spend yet more money to ensure Skippack of this. We obviously lost to this other family, who magically came out of the woodwork. No apology will be enough to counter the melancholy I feel. You see we have been interested in getting another cat for a while now. I've seen plenty of adorable kittens - what kitten isn't too cute for words - and none have pulled on my soul quite like this one has. So I consider it a loss. We won't be adopting any new cat - probably ever. I apologize for my rant/long story on Facebook, as I try not to post stuff like this here. But my hope is that you think twice before using any services from Skippack Animal Hospital - especially if you consider adopting from them. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. As for me, until we consider adopting a new pet, I'll spend the adoption fee giving to rescues with competent staff who consider what is best for the pet versus - who showed interest first.Read Less

I was happy with choosing this place as my vet but I believe they sent my pet home too early as I had to take him to the emergency service the very next day as their office was closed. And even though the doctor was not there when I went to pick him up, I wasn't satisfied that the receptionist was trying to answer my questions instead of contacting the doctor for me. I could have saved a large sum of money, but other than that I was very happy with the staff and the office. The techs and nurses are very knowledgeable and so kind every time I come in with one of my fur kids, as are the veterinarians, Dr. Evans and Dr. Martell. I recommend this vet hospital to everyone! Highly recommend!!! Took my dog Caliber there today and they were absolutely great. I was very pleased with the care of my dog. The hospital is spotless and the employees are great. I wanted to thank EMILY HAINES that refer me to go there. Emily thank you so much for referring me to come to skippack. Dr.Martell was also great with him and her nurse Ruth. They came in and was polite and played with my dog and took care of him. They also answer all of my questions. The two of them work great together I would be coming back and refer people to take their pets there This hospital is such a great team thanks again Read Less

Read Less

The business is poor. In the summer I took my dog there & the bill was outrageous. The bill had a couple charges on there that wasn't necessary for her visit that they had added when they had my dog. My last visit they were trying to add more & more charges than what the initial quote was. Be careful with added charges they had to do. I wouldn't take my pet there ever again. I never had satisfactory work with my multiple interactions with Sippack Animal Hospital. Beware!!!

I moved from out of state and I don't think they were over priced at all... about average I'd say.. you have to expect to pay when you have a pet. Read Less
