This is the worst place that has ever existed. I went in because my dog was sick and was not doing well for a couple of weeks. He was peeing and throwing up and was acting out of the norm. I took him here because there was no other places available. They charged me a fee over $100 to see him immediately. After we were seen they took him for test and came back and said he had ABSOLUTELY nothing. They charged us $800 for those exams. After the doctor, a real jerk, said he can do a urine test or head scan. All they wanted was more money. Turns out we took him to another vet and MY DOG HAS KIDNEY FAILURE AND IS DYING. These people are LIARS. They are a bunch of fraudsters and just wanted the money!!!!!! Read Less

VERY compassionate vet and staff! I had to take my elderly cat here last minute as an emergency. My cat had to be humanely put down, she had suffered sudden seizures for the first time in her life the night before, and it left her brain dead. I didn't want her to suffer anymore. I was originally taking her to my regular vet, but the road to that vet was closed and I couldn't find another route. My cat was still alive, but completely limp and brain dead. Not only was Barton Heights willing to see us despite the last minute situation, but they were EXTREMELY kind and understanding. The fee was very fair and cheap, they gave me a free Paw Print mold and casket for my cat, with her name on it. Highly recommend them! Read Less

We were on our way back home (upstate NY) on 7/1/18 from a weekend family trip in East Stroudsburg, PA when our Doberman boy overheated from exceeded temperatures. Luckily, we were with family who live in the area, are current clients and recommended Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital. My cousin drove us immediately to this hospital within 15 minutes from Penn Estates. In such a chaotic and scary situation where every second is critical we called to give them a heads up that we were on our way. As we walked through the doors Elena told us to take him right to the back to get assistance. Andy and Lisa came to check vitals and called the entire team to assist my boy. We were then sent back to the front where we met Katie to process information and Elena was with the rest of the family comforting various emotions. I tell you the entire team scheduled this afternoon worked miracles and saved my boys life. We cannot thank them enough. I would also like to thank Celeste for the evening phone updates every time I called for current status. If you are within the area and are dealing with an emergency we highly recommend. We went to Barton Heights for our dog on 3/21/17. His name is Butter and he's a yellow lab mix. Overall, I think I could review this place much higher if it wasn't for the rude and downright condescending vet tech we had. Let me start by saying I understand this is the care industry, customer service is not the main priority but when somebody comes in with an emergency, the last thing they want is to feel like they're being judged by a snarky vet tech. It started when I first called with the emergency. My dog was throwing up and there was blood in it so I called around and was referred to Barton Heights. I did not know it was an emergency vet clinic so I asked what the hours were and that was where her attitude began and once we eventually made it there, her attitude continued through the entire time we were there. Obviously I'm writing this review weeks later but that's how much it bothered me. My wife was already extremely upset about our dog having health issues to begin with so having to deal with this unprofessional tech made things even worse. She even went as far as to contradict the vet at the end with the amount of food to give Butter. The Vet told us to give him a certain amount of cans every day before he left and when we were brought to the check out window, the vet tech told us a different amount. She clearly had a disregard for the vet as well. The actual vet (Dr. Smith?) was great. He was extremely kind and understanding. We also called later in the night as we were worried about the amount of saliva in his mouth. The vet tech who answered then was infinitely better. If the first vet tech we had was even half as nice as the lady who answered the phone when we called back at 3 AM this would have been a five star rating. Unfortunately, I don't think we would return to Barton Heights because of the possibility that we would get that tech again. She was just unprofessional, rude, condescending, and judgemental. If you would like specific instances of how she was unprofessional, I would be happy to give you a detailed description of our interaction with her. Thank you for the service you provide, it's unfortunate that one bad apple can really ruin something. Read Less

My cat was recently seen at the emergency room here. Even though he ended up passing away, I could not have asked for a more compassionate staff. I can Not say Enough about this veterinary hospital! They have saved multiple family members lives by being as thorough as they are with every individual situation. I could give details but it would be a novel. When we need answers they have them. If they don't (rarely) we are referred to amazing specialist. When we need the best highest quality care they provide that care and beyond. I find it odd how people post bad reviews about this hospital complaining about the cost. If these people had any idea what goes on behind closed doors in veterinary hospitals they would have a completely different opinion. The Doctors and Staff are beyond amazing and worth every penny. If you want state of the art and the best care possible for your pet then look no further. I worked years ago at many veterinary hospitals including Barton Heights. I know what happens during every part of every veterinary visit unseen by the owners from routine visits to surgeries. The sad part is that there is much less knowledge, care and companion in so many hospitals than people know. The team at Barton Heights are beyond amazing. Not only do they have knowledge, love and compassion they go beyond! Certified (licensed) veterinary technicians are monitoring your pets. The most caring Professional Veterinarians monitor, care for and diagnose your pets. All of this plus state of the art equipment (which is best for your pets) doesn't come cheap. If you want the highest quality care that your pet can receive by the Best people who CARE look no further. Our Family Loves You All and Thanks You For All You Do!!! Keep it UP :)Read Less

The vet techs and doctors at Barton Heights are an amazing group of people. They take the time to get to know you and your pet, and to come up with treatment options that fits your budget while providing the best possible care for your pet. Dr. Burch was very caring and compassionate when we had to euthanize our German Shepherd back in October, and explored every possible avenue to possibly help save Loki but ultimately determined he was too sick to save (we lost him to kidney failure at two and a half years old due to possible bad breeding/in-breeding from the person we got him from). Anyway, the way Dr. Burch and his team handled that situation showed us just how amazing they can be, and we have been taking our senior Corgi Misty there now, too. Misty's old vet was more concerned with running up the bill by recommending every possible test under the sun and used her age as a scare tactic to rope us into spending more money. Barton Heights is the exact opposite in that they present the client with an estimate on what they feel is the ideal treatment and go over every possible option before you have to pay, they are willing to work within your budget and offer health plans and Care Credit, too. Their prices are extremely reasonable, even their pharmacy is affordable, too. Because of this and their pleasant demeanor, I will not take my pets anywhere but Barton Heights from here on out. We've been going to Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital for quite a few years now and often with unusual issues. They've seen us through the tragedy of Cushings Disease in one of our Basset hounds, epilepsy and diabetes in our very old, very large dog, skin cancer on the ears of our elderly white cat and treating our 5 rescues from S. Korea who came with their own unique problems, such as mange, eye mites etc. We've lived in this area since 1991 and have tried the vets that are in closer proximity. My husband and I would never think of going anywhere else. From Dr. Wharton, whom we adore, to all the other doctors that we have seen, they have been professional, caring and thorough. We receive follow up calls, quick appointments, questions answered and concerns addressed, consistently. The office is immaculate, the staff are wonderful, everyone is familiar with our pets and have a genuine fondness for them. One of the most telling comments you see in these reviews is with regard to their honesty. If there is a difficult surgery that needs to be performed, they will call in a specialist. If they believe that a very specialized form of treatment is necessary, they will tell you where to get it. Perhaps the most important thing to us is that they saw us through the loss of 3 of our pets over a short period of time with a sense of sympathy, support and empathy that you'd normally expect only from another family member. In February 2015, I took my pug to Barton Heights late in the night when he had his first seizure. I was very shaken and upset. The receptionists, veterinarian, and vet techs were very compassionate and gentle to both me and my dog. I've been there several times since he's had a rough year. He had a stage II cancerous mass removed from his lip in January and just yesterday I brought him in due to blood in his urine. Unfortunately, he has to go Tuesday to have stones removed from his bladder. I will never take him elsewhere. He usually sees Dr Worton or Dr Ott. Both of them are sympathetic, honest, and spend a lot of time ensuring I understand all aspects of what is happening. (Also, a specialist named Dr Zeltzman removed his mass since it was on a tricky area on his lip. He also called me before and after the procedure to discuss everything thoroughly). The vet techs are kind and very knowledgeable. The receptionists are professional yet also compassionate. They always call a week or so after a sick visit/procedure to check on my dog. I've always received very thorough estimates before any procedure and detailed receipts following. They make sure I know I can call to check on my dog as much as I want while he's there. They also send texts letting me know how he is and when he's going in/coming out of a procedure. I've been pretty emotional at times while I've been there and have only been met with kindness and empathy. I was very nervous during his last surgery, but I think I'll feel a bit better this time because I truly trust that they will do everything they can to help my boy. I am very grateful to them for everything they've done for us. Oh-and they also accept care credit which I'll be using for the first time on Tuesday. There's no interest if I can pay off his bill in 6 months. Read Less

On valentines day this year my family was at our weekend home in Jim Thorpe, we live on from Long Island. We had our dogs with us but have never had any reason to bring our dogs to a Vet while being away. My dog started having seizures (she has a history of seizures) and we were waiting for them to pass. Usually she has breakthrough seizures that last less than 10 minutes and we follow up with our vet within the week to have her medication levels checked. When the seizures were not stopping we started searching the internet for an emergency vet to bring her to for medical treatment. We found two that my fiancé called and he was set on going to Bartonsville based on the professionalism he heard over the phone. He was very pleased with the way the staff addressed his concerns and he felt confident in their abilitiy to treat my dog. We drove a half hour with the dog, while we were on our way I was able to begin the intake process over the phone and provide most information to make the process quicker once we arrived. The staff was very honest and caring for my dog Kasey. They gave us an estimate to leave her overnight for observation/treatment. I was very worried leaving my dog overnight somewhere that I was unfamiliar with but decided it may have been best for her health since she had never experienced seizures like these before. I called multiple times during the night and was always given prompt honest answers regarding her current state. My mom went to pick up Kasey the next morning and the price was lower than our original quote, I love the honesty, professionalism and care we received from the hospital. The hospital followed up during the week and also sent EVERYTHING to our vet on Long Island. If I ever found myself in an emergent animal situation again while in the area I wouldn't hesitate to bring my pet to Martinsville! Oh and... Kasey had an accident on her blanket while she was there and the staff made sure to wash her blanket before she was discharged home. Read Less

WARNING! Proceed with caution. "Emergency medicine" at Barton Heights Veterinary Clinic only means you will pay an increased rate for a same day appointment. You must schedule the EMERGENCY appointment in advance, whereupon you will likely be met by the one and only incompetent veterinarian on duty who is juggling regularly scheduled appointments first and EMERGENCIES last. By then, you may very well have become utterly disorientated and ripe for abuse which may leave you reeling forevermore. There needs to be a law to protect against such harm!*A reviewer commented that Barton Heights Veterinary is "a bit pricey", which is an understatement, however it is not the reason for this review.Instead it is meant to warn others that the lack of remotely adequate medical care together with an abusive veterinarian who threatened and terrorized, was an absolute VIOLATION that lives on and on! Terrible from the techs to the vet. I came in with my sick dog to get her treatment that she needed. I spent a good 2 hours before my dog got any treatment at all because the most important thing to them was money. From the point we walked in that is the only thing they talked about and that were concerned about. The vet knew my dog wasn't going to make it through but tried everything in his power to make me pay for her to be hospitalized. I went to a different vet after the fact and told the vet the dogs temp which was low and other symptoms and they said that my dog didn't have much of a chance. These people were dishonest and greedy and looked for money first and not the health of my animal! I hope that the "dr." finds something else to do other than treat sick animals. We brought our 4-month male corgi Arlo because of him suddenly started limping and we couldn't understand what had happened to him. Dr. Helen Crabtree examined him, found nothing serious, but offered an X-ray ($200+) and confirmed that it was nothing broken or twisted. After that she prescribed a pain relief medication and one of her staff injected it in Arlo's mouth. Neither Dr. Crabtree, nor any of her personnel said anything about side effects that this medicine might caused to a 4-month puppy. We brought him back home and two hours later a vomiting and severe diarrhea began. He became so weak that we rushed back to the hospital and Dr. Amy Smith helped Arlo to stop vomiting and getting dehydrated. Thank you so much, Dr. Smith! I firmly believe that Dr. Crabtree didn't do her duties properly and professionally that subsequently caused our little Arlo suffering from vomiting and degradation. The staff at Barton Heights are very rude and the night dr (an older woman) has no idea what she is doing. We brought our 10 year old maltese in at around 11pm last week when she was twitching and falling over. They stood over us while we signed the consent paperwork so that they can bill us and the Dr ran an xray and blood panel. The Dr. had difficulty reading the x-ray and she said "I have no clue what is wrong with your dog". She gave me pain killers and gabapentin. I had to take my dog home when she was clearly sick. When I got home I decided to google the symptoms and came up with vestibular disease. I called the vet back to inquire about this and they said that that diagnosis was included in "other". I then asked why they gave me the wrong medication and she said nothing. I called another vet the next day and he told me it could be vestibular disease just by knowing the symptoms. I called Barton Heights back and asked to speak to someone higher up than the vet I saw. Dr. Wentz returned my call and was unknowledgeable and rude. I explained to him everything that transpired and he said that my dog did not have vestibular disease because it does not cause twitching or falling over. When you do a simple google search, this is exactly what it causes. All the stress from getting the wrong diagnosis and medication, caused my fianc to go into preterm labor at 34 weeks. The only thing I asked Dr. Wentz for was a refund of at least the exam fee and medication since they gave us no diagnosis and the wrong medication. He was rude and abrupt and said he would do nothing for me. I do not feel that paying $592 for no diagnosis and getting the wrong medication is right. Read Less

I can't say enough good things about Barton Heights. I started taking my Boston Terrier there when he needed to be neutered and had a "complicated" anatomy. At that point I had tried two different local vets and honestly, I got the heebie-jeebies from the other vet's offices...dirty, smelly, crowded, and the vets were gruff.BH was SOOOOO much better. Huge, clean, waiting area, the vets truly run it as a medical practice. The vets and staff are friendly, caring, and most importantly, supremely competent. They handled his procedure no problems, and his regular care for the next 4 years. Then, my poor little Boston was mauled by a pit bull. I am convinced Dr. Wharton saved his life. My dog had deep puncture wounds across his groin, stomach and side...Dr. Wharton stiched, sutured and installed drains...and a few weeks later my dog was back to his old self. The only downside is the expense...BH is more expensive than most local vets, but I believe in this case you truly get what you pay for. I won't take my dog anywhere else. Read Less

This place is terrible. After my experience with Barton Heights, I would never trust them with a beloved pet. They are completely overpriced, cold and unfeeling, and the doctor that I dealt with s incompetent and misdiagnosed my cat twice and apparently doesn't know how to read a sonogram. My cat was vomiting excessively and she was having seizures. First, the doctor misdiagnosed her with FIV, and I left devastated because he never bothered to tell me that a previous FIV vaccination would always indicate a false positive result. After many visits there and one wrong diagnosis after another, the doctor did a sonogram and told me that he didn't find anything in her abdomen. He told me that he did a very thorough and extensive ultrasound and that there was no evidence of cancer and that I should have an MRI of the brain done to check for a possible tumor. Five days later, I took her to a different vet that preformed the same sonogram, and, lo and behold, she has intestional lymphoma that had spread to her liver. I'm not a doctor, but I would find it highly unlikely that the cancer would not show up on the previous sonogram.  Her prognosis is still bleak, but I wouldn't have spent $2000 on the MRI if the "doctor" had been competent enough to find the cancer with his "high tech equipment" in the first place, not to mention the additional $1600 that I threw away by going to this practice in the first place. Not to mention that when I called to speak to the "doctor" about this, he became irate, told me that I had two minutes, and then hung up on me. The practice brags about their "state of the art equipment," then Dr. Sean Ott told me that their equipment is outdated and that is why he read the sonogram wrong, so which is it?  Apparently, your money is not going to fund the "state of the art equipment." Rather, it is funding their annual staff Christmas party at the Stroudsmoor Inn.  You can see the photos on their Facebook page, if they don't choose to take it down now by virtue of my review. Buyer beware; this is the worst vet that I have ever been to. Read Less

When my cats came home, they were very miserable and uncomfortable. I was not sent home with pain medication. A few years down the road, I had my other cat spayed and declawed at Barton Heights. I saw on the estimate i was given that she would go home with pain medication, antibiotics and a special litterbox. I was very pleased with how she was treated.

Read Less

I truly felt that our loss was felt by them as well since they had done so much to help us keep them alive through their illnesses. Barton Heights is an oasis for loving pet owners who can breathe a sigh of relief during difficult times, knowing their beloved 4 legged family members are in such capable hands. Read Less

When my cats came home, they were very miserable and uncomfortable. I was not sent home with pain medication. A few years down the road, I had my other cat spayed and declawed at Barton Heights. When she called me back she told me that the doctor would stop on his way home and come to my house and put my dog to sleep. Mind you, the first time I called Barton Heights was on Sunday, they never saw my dog before. I couldn't beleive that the doctor would come to my house on his way home to take care of my dog. Even though we had to put my dog to sleep, I could not thank Barton Heights enough for going out of their way, THIS IS TRULY A PLACE THAT LOVES ANIMAILS, Thank you!!!!!!! for taking care of my dog, again even though I lost my dog, I cant beleive how you people cared for my dog and me, for a place to keep calling me to see how we were doing shows that you have a heart.Once Again, Thank You.Mr. Anthony J.
