General Info
Banfield Pet Hospital in Tarentum provides compassionate and expert care for local pets. Some of the services they offer include Dental Care, Microchipping, and Vaccinations. Comprehending the profound connection between pets and their families, we strive to promote wellness, address chronic health concerns, and manage urgent issues. At Banfield Pet Hospital in Tarentum, the experience and knowledge gained by our veterinarians are thoroughly interwoven into practice and recorded meticulously during each pet’s wellness examination, as well as every diagnostic workup or treatment plan. A multitude of clients book appointments to ascertain the stability of their pets’ annual checkups. Additionally, they seek consultation regarding any adjustments observed in their animals’ activities or symptoms that continue to manifest over time. Veterinarians often encounter questions relating to a pet’s nutrition, the recovery after surgery procedures, and the ways to prevent or address parasitic infections. Additionally, other health-related inquiries involve monitoring the pet’s behavior changes for any potential red flags that might signal a problem. The clinic also runs tests specific to a particular condition such as itchy skin, food sensitivity, unexplained weight gain or musculoskeletal discomfort. Diagnostic clarity is attained through bloodwork, fecal tests, urinalysis, and hands-on exams. Care plans are structured through this lens based on the pet’s biological characteristics and age group. The aspects of follow-up support include medication management, dental cleaning schedule, and adjustment to daily routines for better mobility. Pet owners need to visit the clinic from time to time for the review of energy levels and evaluation of dietary plans and long-term medication effectiveness. Veterinarians keep detailed logs that assist with communication when the animals visit several times or see multiple providers. Banfield Pet Hospital designs plans to help Tarentum households implement pet healthcare into their daily routines. The clinic empowers pet owners to establish timelines and next steps for proactive wellness care. A nuanced responsive approach arises to support animals at every life stage in Pennsylvania. They are committed to the preventive treatment, early identification, and timely treatment of disorders. I thought when they first opened it would be a good thing. But it hasnt been that way. They are only good for wellness checks and pushing vaccinations. Forget about getting a minor injury looked at, or anything abnormal. They refer you to an expensive emergency vet. Not to mention the horror stories of dogs dying after ROUTINE grooming. I have taken both of my dogs there. Once my boxer had a more complex issue, i decided to not take her back. I went to a local independent vet who was phenominal in her care up until she passed away. My american bulldog fell down steps, ripped her nail and it was bleeding. I just wanted "medically trained" eyes on her. But they refused to see her. She was walking fine, so no fracture, just wanted to be sure she was ok. Pissed me off. And completely turned me off from banfield EVER. So, thankfully we know how to treat humans and animals from growing up on farms/dairy. I cant get over how they REFUSE care to a patient....Poor service. Never will i go to banfield or recommend them. Read Less

The past two times I visited have been horrible. Last time, we had to wait almost an hour to be taken back. Today, we had an email stating that our appointment was at 12:00. However, when we got there at noon, we were told we missed our appointment at 11:45. After showing the black and white email saying our appointment was today at 12:00, I was told that she didn't know why it would say that and she wouldn't see my puppy. Now her shots are due by Friday and no one can get her in until next week. Not to mention, my work schedule for the whole week was planned around this appointment today. Needless to say, we will never be back at this location and we don't recommend wasting your time! Read Less

My sister took her puppy, Murmur, to the banfield at the Mills mall to get spayed after having bought a health plan. When they sent the dog home with her after assuring her that everything went well, the stitches came undone and Murmur's insides fell out. We took Murmer to the banfield in monroeville, but the doctors there refused to help on the grounds that they would not be responsible for another doctors shoddy work. We had to go back to the Mills banfield and wait for hours before they could be bothered with Murmur, blood all over the cage they shoved her in to wait. My sister asked that they restitch the wound rather than glue it back together (at the advice of the doctors from the Monroeville banfield). The Mills doctors merely sneered at her, and proceded to glue Murmer's tummy on the premise that we couldn't do anything to stop them. Worst traumatic experience ever. Read Less

I loved this place at first. Brought my 7 week old Puppy remi there the day we got her & they offered us the wellness plan which is a really good deal for puppies. But soon remi started having health problems started off with a “uti” that wasn’t a uti they gave me antibiotics for it then a week after she was finished with the antibiotics we noticed the issue again but worse so she got another urine test done which came back with high white blood cells but they had no idea why. We then found out she has crystals in her urine & apparently the only fix for that is prescription food that she can’t have until she is 1yrs old so they put her on it for a month to see if it helps then she started getting bumps all over her ears. The food helped the crystals so I then asked what we are supposed to do if she has the crystals to long she will get kidney & bladder stones. So I asked there was any other meds for the crystals & the vet told me she isn’t sure but I can google it if I want??? Wait a second you are the vet not me. Every problem remi has had they always tell me “well I’m not sure what that is / not sure why that’s happening” they don’t seem to have any answer about anything. The only good thing about this place are the vet techs they are always very caring & loving with my dog. But this last issues has pushed me over the edge. My puppy is 7 months old. 3 weeks ago I noticed a bump on her leg that was red & strawberry looking. So I call the vet make an appointment & they of course say I’m not sure what it is. So I pay $140 for them to take a sample of it & send it off for cytology so they said they should have the results in a 2-3 days. So I don’t hear anything & I start calling because now this dime sized solid bump is the size of a quarter & an open wound & no one will call me back. Then they tell me oh the results are in but dr pritts isn’t here for two days so we will have her call you with the results when she gets back. I asked them to have another dr give me the results so I can figure out what steps to take with this open wound. Nope apparently dr pritts has to give me the results?! So I wait all day the day dr pritts should be back & nothing. I call in they tell me she is in a room & will call me back. Well guess who didn’t get a call back ! So I call again the following day to finally be told it’s a histiocytoma which is a benign growth that should go away on its own in 4-8 weeks. But it seemed to be getting infected so dr pritts gave me antibiotics I gave remi 1 pill & within an hour she had diarrhea which is a common side effect but then a few hours late she had blood in her stool. Then started to pass straight blood. I call & no one calls me back. I called again the following day & so did my boyfriend & no one returned my phone call. They wanted me continue to give her the antibiotics! Uhh I don’t think so ! So at this point she is sick for 2 days can’t even get up on her own. The growth on her leg seems to be a lot bigger with a whole in it now. I was looking for a new vet but for the time being was going to take her there because she needs to be seen. I call today they tell me the can’t help me. My dog is very ill with a open wound on her leg & not one vet there seems to care or no what the hell they are talking about. I just wish they would give a damn about my baby & they will need to go back to school cause apparently none of them know anything about animals. Then I ask about how much it is to remove the growth it’s $1000 dollars now. Now that they have left it get worse & worse & not return my calls safe to say I won’t be taking my pup there after her wellness plan is up in December & she will only be going there for the things my wellness plan covers. Someone really needs to do something about these so called vets cause I have seen all 3 and none of them seem to know anything about an animal! They only get 1 star only because of the vet techs ! I've been here about 4 times for my two dogs Roxie and Rio. Dr. Pritts is the vet I would highly recommend to see if you come here. She's so beyond friendly, and genuinely cares about the animals she's seeing. I also have had the pleasure of working with Jason and Brooke at the front and they are always super welcoming when I come in with my two hyper dogs (we refer to ourselves as the circus lol). In terms of the vet techs, Harley was awesome today but the person who always stands out to me most when i come here is Chelsea. Roxie and Rio LOVE HER. She was so understanding and supportive with it being emotional for me to drop off Roxie for her surgery, and she's always so bubbly that it makes our visit great every time. She really makes all three of us feel comfortable when we are there, and that we are in good hands. Although Ross Park and Shadyside are so much closer than this location, I will absolutely make the drive to be able to work with the team here. Thank you all for being so awesome! Read Less

Never had an issue taking our two dogs here and it's an extremely convenient location. We signed ours up for the monthly benefit plan @ roughly $25-28/month each, sort of pricey but better in the long run if god forbid anything major happens to them, in which case it's covered. Medications are discounted along with a laundry list of other benefits and discounts, and checkups end up being free; no visit charge when on the plan. I just wish some sort of credit could be given if their services aren't used for a long period of time, like two-month credit if no visits occur for one year, there's an idea! I guess that's why they make the big bucks... my only other complaint is about the timeliness of the visits; we end up waiting between 30-60 minutes of wait time alone every time we go and it's only for a simple checkup. Get into the room faster! Overall it's been pretty good, I would recommend going and also signing up for the monthly plans. Read Less

I've taken my rabbit to Banfield on several occasions, but only because of the convenience of location. I wouldn't bring him here for any medical needs; it has been only to have his nails cut. However, I will never be going back. While I take my rabbit to a fantastic veterinarian in Gibsonia who knows and understands a rabbits needs, I was hoping to have Banfield simply provide a cosmetic service, BUT, they want to charge 40 dollars for an "office visit" which, let's be honest, is code for "I'm going to look at this animal, tug around at its fur as if I'm doing something, tell you nothing because I'm not really looking for anything, I just want your 40 dollars." Then, they want to charge around 20 or so to conduct the service for which I was bringing him in the first place....and this is the charge EVERY SINGLE TIME! SCAM! Do not bring your pets here! I'd really like to give them a 2.5, but I had to round down.I had to make a same day appointment for my cat. I'd recently moved to Pittsburgh and hadn't yet found a vet, but I knew that there was a Banfield in the Petsmart at Pittsburgh MillsThe good: The tech and the vet were very nice and very concerned with him - it's clear that they both love animals. They took time to explain the xrays he got and clarified my questions. The tech told me about their discount plans and said that she'd been using Banfield even before working there. The bad: The waiting time for everything was just too long. My cat and I had to wait to get into the exam room, had to wait while IN the room, then had to wait again before the follow up appointment. And they were not short waits - we waited about half an hour to get into the exam room for the initial appointment. Banfield is also much farther from my home than the vet that I've since found, which obviously is not their fault. If it weren't for the wait, I would have given them 4 stars. The vet and vet tech were both great with my cat - I have nothing bad to say about the staff with whom I interacted. Read Less

I have very mixed feelings about this vet practice. Started taking my dog here when she was having digestive problems. They recommended she eat Hill's Prescription Diet, which is total and complete garbage. Also, vets usually get a kickback from promoting that brand. On top of it, one bag was like $70 and wouldn't last more than a week at my house.  It's a long and complicated story, but after doing some of my own research, I switched to grain free food and suddenly the anal gland problems, diarrhea, and ear infections were gone! Why couldn't someone have suggested that before??Usually the vet techs/nurses are very friendly and helpful. If I can, I like to get prescriptions from Giant Eagle or Sam's Club (it's cheaper) but some of the vet techs can make you feel bad for wanting that. I have these options, don't give me attitude. Got the puppy plan. We were initially pleased with it until the vet tech started selling add-ons, like a Benadryl shot for nearly $20. This wouldn't have bothered me normally, but they kept pushing the issue and telling me about--and exaggerating--the reactions our dog could have from the vaccine and how much emergency vets cost. All the other vets I've been to will tell you to buy a pack of children's Benadryl and tell you the dosage, in addition to telling you their hours and giving you the number for the e-vet, just in case. No scare tactics and hard selling. On the second visit, the exam table was pulled up (like a Murphy bed) and they immediately took our pup to the back room, where they did the vaccines and exam. Well, I *think* they did. Worse than that, they never told me where the injection site was. I figured it was on the shoulder like last time, until I felt a bump on my pup's upper back leg. After googling, I found out that that's where, most likely, they gave my pup the rabies vaccine. Nice. I'd like to switch vets now, but I'm locked into the contract for a year. I'm dreading scheduling getting my pup fixed. There's some other stuff, too, but frankly I wouldn't put it past them to read this and try to narrow it down to a patient so they can retaliate, so I won't post it.Read Less
