Dr Cleland and the staff have a deep concern for the health and well being of the pets in their care. His staff manually fed my 18 year old cat for several days in an attempt to stimulate his appetite. Through my pet's illness, the staff offered helpful treatment and took a common sense approach to his end-of-life care. My family and I have been using this vet for years and I have nothing bad to say about them up until this point. They had always been a great vet. Very kind, what I'd think as knowledgeable (I wouldn't know as I'm not a vet :-/), and good to our dog. The last point is important because we had a pitbull and we all know the stigma around pitbulls. Any who, recently our dog had aged and become old and we were considering putting him down. My dad called and made an appt to go and have this done. When he calls whoever he spoke to he asked if there was a way the vet could look at our dog first because he really did not want to have out dog put down if he didn't have to. He explained that he felt having our dog put down wasn't humane if he was just sick and could live on his own longer. The response he got was deplorable coming from someone working in any kind of Dr office "oh so you want a check up too, well that'll be an office visit and another $100." Let's not forget that this is our pet and yeah as silly as some people might think, a member of our family, that were discussing the end of their life! How DARE they even part their lips to say this?! Understandably it is a business and people must make money at the end of the day, but if that's all you're in it for then you need to reevaluate your priorities. So, my dad said no and just went along with having our dog put down. So further along and adding some more insult to injury my father paid the price to have the procedure done and they asked if he wanted our dog's ashes. My dad was a bit excited because he was going to spread them through the park where they would walk every day. He was met with "that will be $40." Like seriously?! I've never been so insulted in my life. How difficult is it for you to scoop them into a brown bag!? While that isn't the most respectable way, it wouldn't require any effort not cost you $40 worth of time. This business can kiss my butt for the way they nickel and dimed this process. Disgusting! I will never take another of my animals to this butcher. My cat got hit by a car around 8 in the morning and i immediately took him to HPAH. They said the doctor would see him soon. They put him in a cage. I told them he could be bleeding internally, or something could be broken, they told me don't worry. I went to work. By 3 P.M. the quack doctor still had not even LOOKED at my cat in the cage and i immediately left work. By the time i got there, the ""doctor"" told me he was bleeding internally and had a broken hip. My cat sat in a cage by himself suffering all day while no one did anything to help him. I told him to Frazer Animal Hospital because I heard you could make payments there and i knew he needed help. I drove him there and my cat was in and out of consciousness the whole time. Frazer Animal Hospital put his hip together and even lowered the price because i couldn't pay it all. I am warning everyone with a pet to stay away from the HPAH. My cat was near death when i finally came to pick him up. He let that cat lie in that cage all day suffering. If i could I would have that place closed. Then he tried to charge me for his services. We brought our 14 year old very sick dog in to Highland Animal Hospital. When we called Monday morning we were told to bring him in right away and the vet would fit him in. We arrived at the vet and were told the vet was busy and the dog would have to wait in hospital wing by himself in a cage. The vet would call us when he could see him. 2 hours later and no word from the vet we called him and were told very abruptly that our dog of 14 years had died by himself in a cage.
